Diner Reviews
  • "The food was very good. One of our diners sent back their plate because the meat was very tough (compared to another of our party with the same plate). The waiter promptly replaced the plate with no question, and the second plate was beautifully prepared. Service was impeccable."

  • "Fantastic. Expensive (even during restaurant week) but well worth the price for a wonderful dining experience. Great food (delicious but light), excellent service, etc. combine to for a delightful dining experience and evening. A wonderful evening enjoying the food of a cooking genius."

  • "We were four for lunch and we ordered four different starters and entrees, so I managed to taste about 6 different things, all delicious. My only small complaint is that my lamb burger was more medium or well done than medium rare. The plum cake was exceptional. the portions are small so you don't emerge fit to burst when you are done with an elegant three course lunch. Boulud Sud remains a very special place to have a fine meal."

  • "Despite the crowd of Restaurant Week, food remains a genuine standout on the UWS, a true culinary experience. My beet salad with mascarpone cream was literally the finest beet salad I have ever had, and I have had many. The merlu fish was excellently prepared, both courses being served perfectly timed and simply splendid to enjoy. Sadly they simply forgot about us when it came to our desert and it was close to 30 minutes before they indicated desert would be coming soon. We were relaxed and enjoying conversation, so no hard, but that is a very long time and the reason for the 3 for service. As always though, it is a true gem on the UWS with fabulous food and wine offerings and always highly recommended."

  • "It was a wonderful experience to be there. Everything was impeccable !!"

  • "Mr. Boulud reliably provides food that is creative and first-rate, but he seems to really let his imagination loose at Boulud Sud. The vibe is much more casual than at Daniel, and the space is a bit noisier than I ususally like when splurging on a high-end restaurant (expect $100/person with wine and desserts), but overall the experience is very good. I'd avoid the $16 cocktails and invest instead in a bottle of wine... even the least expensive on the list are quite good."

  • "We had a wonderful time! The wait staff and the sommelier couldn't have been nicer, and the menu for Restaurant Week was lovly. Will go back next time we're at Lincoln Center"

  • "Excellent food & service! Even though it was restaurant week, we were treated as very special diners! It was my friend's birthday & I had used Open Table's flower link. The flowers were ON OUR TABLE & they were absolutely beautiful!! Then the restaurant for dessert, without my saying a word, wrote "Happy Birthday" on her dessert plate & lit a candle on it. I loved my lunch & will love to go back to Boulud Sud as soon as possible with my husband for another truly excellent meal."

  • "I can rely on this place to impress my guests with good food and an altogether pleasant experience. Boulud Sud has yet to disappoint and it's too well-run to be likely to in the future!"

  • "A wonderful restaurant! Truly delicious -- a delight in food. When we were there the service was rather bad, but I feel pretty sure they were short staffed that night. And they apologized by comping part of the meal, so they did well by us! We'll be back when we can next justify the cost with a special occasion."

  • "The food was excellent and I did not feel as tho the staff felt we were there just because it was Restaurant Week. They treated us with courtesy and respect. Our problem with the restaurant is that it is noisy. We noticed there is carpet on the floor and drapes on the windows which must mitigate the noise somewhat. The fact is: there were too many people is that amount of space. Too many tables squeezed together. Think about it. We know the Bolshoi was over at Lincoln Center and people were on their way there which could've been part of it."

  • "I made a reservation for an early client dinner based on a recommendation from a friend who considers it one of her favorite places. After being seated, it took 25 minutes for anyone to come to our table to take a drink order or to pour a glass of water! Once our server did come over we got our water but that was it for another 25 minutes. I had to ask other servers walking around to find ours to ask her to stop over multiple times. When she did finally take our order we ordered appetizers and our meals all at once for fear we would not see her again for another hour. The menu did not disappoint and our meal was delicious. It is unfortunate that a wonderful meal was overshadowed by one of the worst service experiences I have ever had."

  • "We dined during the Restaurant Week ie with a three course dinner supposed to be @$38 p. head for a three course meal. However several of the courses on the pre-fixe menu had 'add-ons' or extra costs, which was disappointing. While the quality of the starter and main courses were up to our expectations of Bouloud Sud, the desserts were, unfortunately, not."

  • "We tried all Boulud restaurants in NYC and they never disappoint. The food is great, modern, tasty, with interesting flavors and ingredients, and artistically arranged. The service is always superb without being overwhelming. Even if you are a "Restaurant Week" customer, you will be treated as a king. The only little flaw at this location - too many different people serving and busing the table. It's nice to have just a couple of people, instead of new person coming over every 10 minutes. It's a bit confusing, like "what does she want from us? ". Otherwise, nice and bright restaurant, pleasantly cold on a hot day , no need for sweater. We were able to have a nice conversation (we went for lunch), no noise, no annoying music."

  • "Although the service was superb, the food was disappointing. It was good but I had expected GREAT! In my opinion the flavors were too bland."

  • "We started w the tomato, watermelon, & burrata salad. It was surprisingly lacking in flavor. We had chicken tajine for our main course. That was excellent. Totally delicious, ample portion & handsomely presented. The service was outstanding in every way. The restaurant is elegant, airy without being too formal. A great combo. Will definitely recommend it& eat there again."

  • "Food absolutely out of this world. Terrific waitress. Only slight blemish- we waited a while for our wine"

  • "This is where Bar Boulud went to heaven. Everything was prepared perfectly, was served and presented perfectly and took my palate places it had never been before. I had high expectations, and they were fulfilled. We requested a seat near the paintings on the wall, and despite that section being closed, we sat there by ourselves, just far enough from the crowd to make it enjoyable."

  • "Sharing 5 appetizers, two glasses of wine, one beer, the check plus tip was $163! Although the waitress seemed knowledgeable, she disappeared without taking our drink order - had to communicate through attentive busboy who gave us second rounds of bread when we still hadn't gotten any food for over an hour! There may have been a problem in the kitchen, but we were not told; however our order finally came delivered by a manager (first the wrong order - with apologies, then 10 minutes later with the correct order). I'm ambivalent about returning, particularly if I need to attend theater afterwards! I hope they address their issues. FYI - a French couple sat next to us and received the same poor service and were shocked."

  • "We three enjoyed the most amazing meal. Everything on the plates looked beautiful, included ingredients never combined in such intriguing and wonderous ways, and yielded new taste sensations. We strongly urge folks to try out this neighborhood treasure."

  • "Boulud Sud is a Mediterranean style restaurant crafted for NY audiences, you couldn't actually find this resto anywhere else. The food was quite pleasing, although not brilliant in any way. The chicken tagine and the lamb were quite enjoyable. The sound level was not too bad, but we ate quite late, and it was no longer quite full. The wine list had some interesting southern French choices, and we enjoyed our Minervois for $70. The service was not unfriendly, just non-existent, and our table was right in the middle of the dining room. I felt like if I wasn't proactive, I could have sat there all evening without being served, and this persisted throughout the meal. Among the most inattentive service experiences that I've had."

  • "The food is very diverse for a Mediterranean restaurant, however the service is a bit lousy for its quality. Had to ask for water several times during the course of our dinner."

  • "I took a date for the pre-theater dinner (LincolnCenter). She commented:"It's the only restaurant in New York where the mains are actually better than the appetizers!" - and the appetizers were quite good. But we both had fish for the main course: fresh, cooked exactly to the right point, with perfect complements. Service was excellent, cheerful, unobtrustive - perfect! We chose a sidewalk table: on Broadway, it's not quite "intimate", but that was our choice. It does give you permanent entertainment, always refreshed!"

  • "We came in early, before a concert at the Beacon, unknowing that there is a price fixed only menu before 7. Nonetheless, we had an exquisite meal timed perfectly to get us out at exactly 7:40. The grilled octopus was perfectly charred and just the right amount of chew/tenderness. Our fish was wonderful and the artichoke frisee salad was so substantial! Same with the side of charred broccoli rabe. I was quite full, but the desserts which came with the price fixed meal, were like artwork. So lovely were the 2 chocolate treats we chose, we almost didn't want to bite in, but once we did, no stopping us."

  • "Daniel Boulud delivers on all scores at Boulud Sud. The Mediterranean menu is refreshing and the variety offers something for everyone. The grilled octopus and Mediterranean Mezze are perfect pre-show and the wine selection is always interesting. The restaurant offers bar dining both at the bar or at cafe tables on a first come first serve basis. Whether you want a lighter bite or a complete dining experience this is the best Lincoln Center area restaurants has to offer."

  • "Menu is so pretentious. Waiter has to explain everything. I want to enjoy the wonderful food not look in a dictionary so I can decide want to order."

  • "One if the best meals I have had in a long time. Eash dish was well executed and full of flavor. The desserts were excellent as well. I hope to be back soon!"

  • "I really enjoyed my dinner at Boulud Sud. I took a friend on business from Japan there for dinner and we ordered the pre-fixe menu. I am a vegetarian and there wasn't a lot entree selections. The chef made a basil risotto for me; and it was delicious. We were stuck there for quite some time due to the bad weather. But we were not rushed out. The waiters were very friendly and understanding. I definitely will go back there."

  • "We had high expectations given our experience at Daniel and the Boulud on the East Side. But this was not fine dining at all. They had paper on top of the table cloth! It seemed it was busy with people attending pre-dinner shows.. people coming and going quite frequently. The food was okay but nothing to write about and not tempting to go back for. The most disappointing aspect was that our waiter could hardly speak English. We couldn't understand hardly anything that he said. So our several questions (because the menu is written in code it seems so it's hard to know what to expect on your plate... which is fancy and okay if the waiter can explain the dishes to you) remained unanswered as he frequently said I don't know the word in English."

  • "Food is so good and creative, offering tastes from all over the Mediterranean. The prix fixe, the only menu available with a 6:45 or 7 pm (or earlier) reservation, offers three courses with good choices and generous portions. We always enjoy eating at this very handsome and elegant restaurant. Can't wait to return."

  • "Food looked gourmet but did not taste gourmet. Sauces were indistinctive and purees were gloppy. No flavor harmonies existed in anything we ate. Waiter was under par; apologized for long waits between courses due to a large party that had come in. He should have sent over other wait staff who were idle to our table instead and it did not help in what was becoming a sub par dining experience to begin with. I would call this restaurant "faux gourmet". This was the 3rd and final time we're eating at Bolud Sud, it sadly seems to be sliding precipitously towards tourist fodder."

  • "We went to Boulud Sud after seeing a play and had a generally poor experience. The service was lacking to say the least. I don't know that we were ever assigned a waiter. After much waiting the host noticed this and took our order himself. Various servers kept bringing us the wrong things and I had to place a drink order twice. The food was ok."

  • "Pleasant, unhurried service. Thank God the waiter was not patronizing! Grilled octopus was done right, sheeps milk ricotta had right touch of garlic. Excellent dining without fuss."
