This restaurant has an excellent reputation, as does Daniel Boulud's, but my experiences were polar opposites. Daniel was one of the three best restaurants I have ever been to. Bouley was very disappointing. The head waiter was cold, condescending and brusque - to the point of being rude. I was lectured about the tasting menu being intended for the entire table, but I only inquired because - unlike in most other restaurants - this was not stated on the menu. The assistant wait staff were pleasant enough but not at all knowledgeable. The entrees were served lukewarm. I was told my first entree choice was not available because it was obviously seasonal. (Veal, seasonal? And even if so, why was it still on the menu?) The food was generally uninspiring and mundane. On the other hand, the cheese course was excellent, as was the wine, and the sommelier, Adrien Falcon, was one of the most knowledgeable and enthusiastic I have ever encountered. Cheers!

I had a 9:15 appointment. While our waiter was great the food good but not up to my expectations. It was a birthday dinner for my girlfriend and i asked if they can do something on the dessert which they forgot. The wine list was notable and very extensive. We opted for three courses instead of the tasting menu. I would come back to try the tasting menu but the Lamb entree was not that impressive

  • Bread was the best ever

The bread cart at Bouley is something to experience. There must have been 15 choices and my wife and I had three that were all truly amazing. I usually treat bread as a vehicle to service great butter, but this bread was so good I skipped the butter. And the gentleman manning the bread cart was a gem - verify friendly, smiling all the time, happy to explain the intricacies of how the bread is made and why it is so good. He also cut it as thick or thin as we desired so we were able to have another piece or two later in the meal. Truly exceptional. The rest of the meal was good, although not great (we had the mid sized tasting menu). Some dishes were very good while others didn't go over as well, which was not expected for the price. The wine pairings were excellent. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff is very professional. I couldn't stop looking at the beautiful ceiling. We plan to go back for lunch the next time which may be a better value proposition - if they have the bread cart at lunch! Hopefully it was just an off night for the food because it truly is a lovely restaurant worth going to for a special occasion.

This is one of my wife's favorite restaurants in the world. The decor is wonderful; however, the food is the real draw. The food is always amazing....some non-intuitive combinations that are delightful....and perfectly prepared. I appreciate that the sommelier has expanded the massive wine list to include some excellent, but less expensive alternatives.

This was one of our top five dining experiences ever, counting our years living in Europe, as well! The tasting menu was superb, each course more delicious than the one before. My foie gras was unbelievably good, and the wild mushrooms with toro were amazing. Our waiter, Nicco, was funny and helpful and when we asked about something another couple was having, just out of curiosity, he gifted us with a small slice each of the dish so we could try it, too! The entrance was lined with walls of fresh apples, a warm and homey touch, and we were gifted with a bag of lemon cake to take home, as if we had any room to eat something more!

Lunch Autumn 2014 Bouley Tasting Menu. 5 Courses With Wine Pairing. 1st: Big Eye Tuna, Green Apple, Bergamot, Osetra Caviar. Very refreshing. 2nd: Forager’s Treasure of Wild Mushrooms, Sweet Garlic, Special Spices, Grilled Toro, Black Truffle Dressing. You must have this for sure. 3rd: Organic Long Island Duck, Indian Reservation Wild Rice, Wheat Berries, Black Dates and Hand Milled Polenta. This was so so. 4th: Chilled Coconut Soup, Pineapple Granite, 10 Exotic Fruit Sorbet, Passion Fruit and Coconut Ice Cream. Tasty, but not extraordinary. 5th: Hot Valrhona Chocolate Soufflé, White Coffee Cloud, Coffee Ice Cream, Chocolate Mousse. Maybe too much sugar in it. The paired wine was also too sweat for me. Enjoyed many kinds of bread.

But sadly (for France). Bouley's food is better, fresher, more inspired! The prix fixe lunch is an truly exceptional value, and the wine pairing was really perfect pulling in just the right complementary wine from all over the world. The room is gracious and warm and a world apart from the NYC streets that await outside. You will leave the restaurant physically sated, but also fed emotionally, and spiritually by those who cook and serve with such passion and joy.

The tasting menu with 5plates is great. My husband & I ordered different things so actually we got a chance to taste 10. Each is delicate and looks beautiful. I love the sweet corn soup, duck, farm egg, and mushroom. Maybe I usually eat lightly, the beef cheeks tasted a little salty and the desserts too much sugar. As said by others, bread choices are diverse! I love those with fruit (cherry, apricot, rasin).I don't drink alcohol, but I saw the gentlemen at my neighbor table enjoyed wines a lot. I hoped they had asked to take care of my hat, which I put on a side bar for vase coz it would get folded putting in the chair. When I left, they nicely packed the chocolate and gifted me a cake. Overall, good service & nice food.

Met my two French girlfriends in New York last week. Booked a lunch reservation at Bouley based on Zagat's review. Upon entering, we experienced sensory overload and joy at the sight and smell of thousands of fresh apples covering the walls...the anticipation of what could be around the corner didn't disappoint...such a beautiful and comfortable dining room! We chose the 5 Course tasting menu and had one of the greatest gastronomic experiences of our lives. I would highly recommend Bouley to anyone who appreciates food at the finest level. The servers were attentive and caring..like family. All three of us agreed that Bouley was a gem on planet earth and plan to make it a tradition.

This is a disappointment. Lovely old fashioned French 3 Star room if you like that sort of flowery OTT nonsense. Trouble is it is all pretentious and nothing like the real thing I've experienced at least 15 times. Tables way to close together so that even the vase of flowers are at risk as is your conversation and the others as well. Food ok, veal was tough as old boots....[they did offer a Sauterne to amend]. Then a no no of all no no's, they brought out the dessert before we had finished the Burgundy. This is service 101 failure. Not a great evening at the inflated price.

We go to NYC for wine spectator's wine experience. This year we chose Bouley as we had experienced his other French friends' restaurants and I was curious why he is not getting the 3rd Michelin star. The restaurant setting and food was truly 3 star, but when it came to service, a condescending table capitan who did not know how to handle the patrons' requests ruined the night! We chose our 8 course tasting menu from the ala cart menu but we wind up arguing with him about how our food should be served because in the middle of the meal, he told us that they do not split dishes in the restaurant. This was finally resolved after unnecessary back and forth with him and the maitre d'. Their white tuna and duck dishes were stand outs of the meal.

The service was a little disorganized at first, as they were asking if I wanted to choose wine before I had seen a menu. They brought the wine list and I had about 15 minutes to peruse it before they came and asked what I wanted to order, and I pointed out that I had not seen the menu yet, so then they took the wine list, and several minutes went by before they brought us menus, and even longer before they brought the wine list back. So what should have taken 10 minutes took more like 40. The food though was amazing, save for the 3 rabbit ribs which were among the greens and other items in the delicious rabbit salad- having to remove bones from your mouth not once but three times in a restaurant of this caliber is not what one expects.
