Diner Reviews
  • "Was recommended Bouley by a friend, particularly the lunch menu which is outstanding value, and was not disappointed. It was a great way for me and my gf to finish our long weekend in NYC"

  • "We just had the tasting menu, outstanding. We both consider this to be much better than another highly-rated restaurant whose chef's last name also starts with B, we're dropping that one from our list. The food here is innovative and perfectly prepared. While we didn't both necessarily love each dish, every dish was liked by at least one of us. The front-of-house works together seamlessly, the dining room decor is striking, there's nothing to not like here. The cheese quality was possibly the best I've had in NYC, perfectly aged. I mentioned I liked strong cheeses, the server made a special trip to the cellar for an absolutely perfect Epoisses. Heaven. Not a single service or kitchen flaw. Absolutely top of our list for next time."

  • "I came here with my husband for our anniversary and we really enjoyed our dinner. The food was fantastic, and so was the setting. My note left on OpenTable during reservation was taken into account for seating and dessert course. The staff is prompted and helpful, and they are kind of everywhere though; the waiter to guest ratio is quite high."

  • "Having lived 4 years in Paris we have frequented many excellent restaurants and Bouleys compares very well with the best we have seen."

  • "Visited about a decade ago & had a wonderful experience. A few changes, the little bakery has been replaced by an opulent velvet reception area where one might have a pre dining cocktail. The tasting lunch did not disappoint. Outstanding dishes blending textures, favors, temperatures. The staff could not be nicer very professional but not at all unapproachable. No longer live in the area but hope I don't have to wait another decade to repeat this wonderful experience."

  • "Bouley is in the top NY restaurants - but someone tipped us off that the Lunch tasting Menu at $55 was a great bargain ($110 with the wine parings) and they were right ! From start to finish every dish was brilliantly executed, interesting to look at and TASTY (this is not always the case with high end food). We found the pace of the meal very relaxing and the room - with beautiful oil paintings of the lavender fields in Provence = elegant & great place for a celebration... The wine paring was done with care and is recommended. The only miss was we dropped the hint twice that it was a birthday lunch - but it took a third direct request to get a candle, but they made up by brining out an extra dessert. We will definitely will go back."

  • "Bouley has an excellent tasting menu for lunch. Their seared tuna was heavenly, and the flan was as delicious as promised. The truffle was a bit too rich for me, since I was having the organic wild duck for my main dish, but the overall balance was excellent. I'd go for the wild mushrooms next time to make the meal a bit lighter, but if you are a fan of truffle, go for it. At some point comes a cart full of unique bread and they are delicious. I would definitely go for the fig again. The dessert was also excellent. Unfortunately the last tray with sweets is below standards. I tried one of the milk chocolates despite its looks and immediately regretted it. They are dry, not fresh, and a sad ending to such a wonderful meal."

  • "We went to Bouley for the 5-course tasting lunch which we had with the wine pairings. While expensive, you get more food than the 5 courses, lots of surprises and extras. Blini with salmon was a particular treat; the blini are more like large marshmallows that melt in your mouth, and then you get a salmon surprise taste. The porcini flan with crabmeat is my all-time Bouley favorite-a rich, flavorful dish. Endless desserts, each one better than the last. Impeccable service, formal but not stuffy. Oh, I almost forgot the cherry bread, filled with tart cherries. The wines were all good and this is an easier way to go, as they have an extensive and pricey wine list. Can't wait to go back."

  • "I'm a Japanese tourist and it was a first time visit to NYC . I've long wanted to eat at one of the authentic restaurants with the excellent service in NYC. I'm so happy to find my choice right. The interior of Bouley was very elegant, luxurious and superb. The service staff spoke beautiful English with French accent, which gave us the impression that we were in France. Nothing can beat food in Bouley,. Out of the world ! I've visited several prestigious restaurants in Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe. Bouley's food tasted much much better. When I come back to NYC, I'll definitely have dinner at Bouley."

  • "Bouley never disappoints. The food steals the show - creative, delicious, artistic and fantastically delicious. The service is gracious and attentive, and the warm dining area is still one of the most beautiful spaces in all of NYC. Can't wait to go back."

  • "When we dine so expensively, we expect the food that we cannot prepare at home - every bite was a surprise and perfection. Attentive and knowledgeable but very respectful service... Ambiance - could be more contemporary considering that the majority of guests were in their 30s..."

  • "This is the best French cuisine I have ever savoured, created by the Bouley chefs to please the eyes as well as the tongues. the restaurant is big enough to serve all our needs yet small enough to know all the guests. The staff display hospitality and render service with a smile."

  • "been to bouley in its last location several times, never had a mediocre course before this visit. apps and amuse bouche were right on- unlikely but vibrant combos of sweet and savory. then the main course of chicken, sadly overcooked and a little tough. must've been an off night on the line, not what you'd hope for at the staggering price tag. wine, service, ambience all top notch."

  • "I had a wonderful experience with the tasting menu for lunch. It was more than enough food, and they even brought out a couple of amuses and an extra course to try. I couldn't even sample the petitsfors. I was way too full. And very satisfied. For my palette, the dishes could have pushed more toward the savory side. There was a lot of surprising "sweet" throughout my menu choices. But everything was interesting, and beautiful, and delicious. Most men were wearing a jacket, so know that going in. Although I was somewhat casual, I was very relaxed, comfortable and well taken care of. I would absolutely go there for the "chlorophyll" soup. Out of this world!"

  • "We had the lunchtime $55 5-course tasting menu. Everything was excellent and quite unique, so it was well worth the money for a birthday special occasion. In addition to those 5 courses, you get amuses bouches at the beginning of the meal, as much bread as you want from an array of tempting choices on a bread cart later in the meal (this on top of the delicious bread you're given at the beginning of the meal), and a selection of very fancy chocolates, macarons, etc served after dessert. Of course, when you add a bottle of wine and coffee, the meal is rather pricey, but it was a special occasion."

  • "Had tasting menu and a la carte. Foie gras app was delicious. Now tasting menu: Sea urchin w osetra caviar - sea urchin from the shell was not naturally sweet as expected, disappointment. It was complemented w mandarin gelee which brought out the taste of the osetra. But I taste the mandarin flavor again in gelato w hot chocolate lava cake, which contained bits of crunches as I bute throughout the whole cake--poorly done. Next was the alaskan king crab w other crab n blk truffles, really enjoyed it- large chunks of meat good portion. Next lobster boat- not naturally sweet very bland, good portion & cooked jus right. Duck not complemented well. Petit fours were too sweet. Didnt care for raspb soup. Waiter left plate n didnt intro it, rude"

  • "Not my first time but the attention and excellence were evident from the start. Very expensive and worth it. For a special occasion or to treat yourself there are few equals. George our waiter and The lovely enthusiastic bread steward guided us flawlessly. After my massive fois gras, I thrilled to a delicate and light chicken supreme cooked in hay. Like a light country breeze, I floated on delicate flavor. Marvelous experience"

  • "I had one of the worst dining experiences of my life. The waiters paid almost no attention to us, screwed up our orders and forgot all of our drinks. Also, I had loved Bouley for their care with food allergies and wonderful gf free bread. But this last time they screwed up the allergies, and the slices of bread were so think I could see through the slice! When the waiter was cutting the bread in front of us it seemed as if they were saving up on bread which was absolutely ridiculous for a restaurant that charges $50 for an entree. And when I asked for more bread they never brought it! Overall the dinner was bad, the food came in cold, the flavor was terrible, just a poor disappointing experience overall."

  • "Dining experience at Bouley is never disappointing. This is the 2nd year we went there for our anniversary. Last year we had dinner there and this year we reserved 2 seats for lunch. Both years were wonderful experiences. All the restaurant staff paid attention to details since the reservation process. After having had lunch and dinner at Bouley, it is not hard to understand why this place was filled all the time. Must see for yourself."

  • "The last time we dined at Bouley, we were blown away by the food and the service. That was over 15 years ago. It is wonderful to know that some things never change. We were lucky enough to be able to dine at Bouley this weekend and were very pleased with the 5 course tasting menu. Everything we ordered was a delight to our palate. My mom still raves about the Kobe beef and I am still dreaming about the souffle I ate. And the $55 price tag was a delight as well. The service was very attentive and constantly in motion. If I had one criticism, it would be that the place is not spacious enough. But the ambience is cozy, like someone's living room. This restaurant is a MUST to experience. We plan to return again and again."

  • "Did the 5-course lunch tasting menu. What a fantastic bargain! What I like about having choices for each course is that you get to try other things that other people in your party ordered. So it's almost like having a 10- or 15-couse meal! The duck was just ok, but everything else was delicious... prepared well and beautifully presented. Highly recommend!"

  • "We come here once a year for my dear friend's birthday because it's way down in lower west Manhattan and in the $$$$$ category. If I were rich, I'd make the trip and dine here weekly. The shrimp and scallop appetizer was one of the best I've had. The duck was beyond divine. The desert courses endless and scrumptious....with a lemon bread gift at the door as we left). The ambiance is literally what you'd expect in the parlor of a palace, breathtaking lush silk brocades, satins and velvets... and stunning art. I just can't find fitting words, but no cascade of superlatives is sufficient to describe this meal or this place. It is always an experience to go here. I only wish I could do it more often."

  • "Party of 4, early friday evening, sitting down at 530, departing at 930, where did those 4 hours go to? The tasting menu was superb, so varied, so delicious, we even had some room at the end to sample some of the cheese with a superb bottle of Margaux. The bread cart is unreal as are the staff in general. Its always a treat on a special occasion, cannot wait for the next time....."
