A word from Boulevard 18
Boulevard 18 Bistro and Wine Bar is a neighborhood restaurant on Main Street in the village of New Canaan CT. The menu is comprised of bistro classics, with our own unique twists. Everything from the frites to the 3 types of sausages, pâté, gravlax, pickles, duck confit and desserts including the ice cream and sorbet are made in-house. As many ingredients as possible are organic, sustainable and locally sourced.
We give the wine list the same attention. Wines are selected for quality and value with an excellent representation of major regions in France. We feature 20+ wines by the glass, a selection of craft-brewed beer and a full bar, featuring artisanal spirits and cocktails with fresh juices and herbs, and house-made infusions.
The beautiful room, in burgundy and dark wood is highlighted by an antique wall sized map of Paris. The custom-made zinc topped bar seats 15. Guests may sit at comfortable banquettes, at the zinc bar, counter or high-top communal table.

  • "The extensive menu featured something for everyone. We sampled several appetizers and entrees and none disappointed. The calamari was super--crispy and sweet. The salad was divine. The tart was brilliant and the profiteroles were the best we every had. Loved it all. The music was a bit loud to begin with but the staff turned it down a little. It's such a small room, the music should be a little more subdued in order to allow easy conversation. However, this will be a favorite spot, for sure."

  • "I recently dined on a Sunday evening with my spouse and our 2 toddlers. The restaurant was less than 1/4 full and quiet. Décor and ambiance were average. Service was friendly but slow (even with few tables filled). Food was all very good (though not excellent). Portion sizes were on the larger side. Pricing was somewhat expensive (although in this case we had a 1/2 price coupon which made for a good price/quality deal). I would not return at the regular dinner prices, but I would definitely return with a comparable discount coupon."

  • "The wait staff at this charming French bistro are super friendly, and very attentive. We dined on a Sunday evening, and even though the restaurant was more than two-thirds full, we were never rushed. The food is simply delicious. We started with an appetizer of mushroom ravioli that melted in your mouth. The mushrooms were earthy and perfectly cooked. The main course, salmon on a bed of wilted spinach and black lentils, was also perfectly cooked. The portions are on the large side, but I guess you could always take some home. If you're having dessert, try the apple tart - crisp and flaky at the same time. We will definitely be back for more!"

Highly recommend the hanger steak, excellent flavor and cooked perfectly to the requested medium rare. Wild mushroom ravioli appetizer was to die for. Interesting cocktails, good wine selection. Terrific service. Tends to the noisy side, especially when the dining room is full. All told, a keeper!"

  • "Delicious food & drinks. Glavlox was delicious;would have liked more and a lighter (thinner) sauce. Freese salad was really great. Muscles were tiny, like periwinkles…might be a seasonal problem but it lessons the meal quite a bit. I recommend the white cosmo with elderberry in it…not too sweet, delicious. When the muscles are that tiny, customers should be warned.Service was wonderful, especially considering it waS Valentine's Day and the crowds were arriving."

The ambience is ok and the tables are very close to each other. The servers were not dressed well and appeared very casual, not really fitting for a French bistro. The tables had paper on them over the table cloth, very cheap looking. Overall, very disappointed!"

  • "Don't let size and its rather discreet entrance deceive you--Boulevard 18 is a petite joint that offers grande cuisine. Warm and rich in tone and decor, this is a wonderful place to go as a couple on a weekend night later in the evening or with the family earlier. Particularly good: the roast chicken, the "devils on horseback" which are bacon wrapped roast figs--YUM--the moules, sea bass and the lamb. On the dessert menu the carrot cake is divine (sadly, the profiteroles underperform). Absolutely worth a visit and then return visits: only one thing--when it is full it is extremely LOUD. The last time we went the noise level really made it not so pleasant. So check it out during a quiet period (avoid the holidays)-truly a true jewel."

  • "The menu is creative and interesting but the execution disappoints. We had Devils on Horseback and Pate as appetizers. The Devils were figs wrapped in very overlooked, dried out bacon and the pate had an odd flavor. The cauliflower pasta main course was heavy with visible oil and the flavor of mint, lemon and spices was too heavy handed. The best part of the meal were the desserts. The rich chocoate ganache and the apple crisp were outstanding. Service was friendly and attentive. There is dining at the bar which is a plus."

The Tuscan Kale Salad, which had been on the specials for quite a while, has made it to the main menu. It is hands down, the best kale salad around. Great flavors - addiciting!"

The wine and beer lists are extensive enough to find something to almost everyone's taste. The dishes are ample, servings sizes are almost daunting. The richness of the recipes was more than I enjoy, but they were flavorful. The restaurant was not full (it was a weeknight), so the noise was minimal, though I can imagine that it would be noisy on a busier night."

  • "The menu had so many interesting things that it made it difficult to make a choice. We decided to have Steak tartare, oyster/crimini mushroom tarte as and appetizer. The beef was fresh and well presented. The tarte gets an A for taste, but it was 'muddy' looking. The mussels and fries as a main course worked. The mussels in wine were cooked with spinach so that you could eat a mussel with the taste of wilted spinach - another A. The fries were good but over salted. We also tried the lamb and ratatouille, which was outstanding and plentiful Desert was Chocolate bread pudding with coffee ice cream another A. When we finished they brought is a slice of beautiful carrot cake as a present, Good experience and we will go again."

  • "Having eaten at Strada 18 (Blvd's sister restaurant in Norwalk) where the experience has been adequate at best, I was impressed with Blvd 18. The menu is classic French bistro, though a bit more expansive. While it was odd that the tuna tartar was served on a slapping heap of guacamole, it was nonetheless quite tasty. Went with the hangar steak frites for my entree, which was outstanding. Perfectly cooked steak with the absolute perfect amount of salt seared into the meat. Au poivre sauce was on point and the fries were great. The wine list was not extensive, but nonetheless we found a nice, reasonably priced Sancerre. Charming waitress as well...a nod to tattooed, bass playing, ginger haired woman with top notch food knowledge."
