A word from Boulevard 18
Boulevard 18 Bistro and Wine Bar is a neighborhood restaurant on Main Street in the village of New Canaan CT. The menu is comprised of bistro classics, with our own unique twists. Everything from the frites to the 3 types of sausages, pâté, gravlax, pickles, duck confit and desserts including the ice cream and sorbet are made in-house. As many ingredients as possible are organic, sustainable and locally sourced.
We give the wine list the same attention. Wines are selected for quality and value with an excellent representation of major regions in France. We feature 20+ wines by the glass, a selection of craft-brewed beer and a full bar, featuring artisanal spirits and cocktails with fresh juices and herbs, and house-made infusions.
The beautiful room, in burgundy and dark wood is highlighted by an antique wall sized map of Paris. The custom-made zinc topped bar seats 15. Guests may sit at comfortable banquettes, at the zinc bar, counter or high-top communal table.

I've been here now at least 15 times and have never been disappointed. The menu is fun, with the potential to order a bunch of appetizers, a generous cheese plate, or a classic entree. The service is always prompt and attentive. And the decor is charming--just a little more elegant than your normal bistro. I always look forward to an evening at Boulevard 18!

The service is too speedy and the waiters are literally on top of you. They need to take it down a notch and create a more relaxing atmosphere. Too many people approached the table too many times to ask to take away our food.

The menu and especially the wine list put the lie to all the other restaurants that think they can bring a French take to dinner out. Whether you wish to have a simple meal or a grand dining experience this is truly a French bistro with not much competition in CT.

Wow! We have been going to Blvd 18 for almost two years and the last few visits have found a steep decline in quality and service. We thought we'd gve it one more try and we were again bitterly disappointed. The service was indifferent and the food quality was as if it had jsut come off the Sysco truck. Cannot imagine what has happened. Sorry for being so tough but maybe a kick in the pants is needed.

We have eaten at Blvd 18 several times. It has improved immensely over time. From the gracious greeting to the jovial servers. Our Clams meuniere were wonderful. The whole trout cooked to perfection stuffed with bountiful spinach with olives, capers, white wine. The wine list is fine and the desserts were devine.

My wife and I dined at Boulevard 18 for this first time this past weekend. The food was very good. The restaurant has more of a Brasserie-style menu than fancy French / haute cuisine menu. The steak tartare and tuna tartare were both excellent. The restuarant is, if anything, let down by its service. My steak came out with frites instead of spinach, and the couple at the table next to us sent their dishes back four times (yes, really, four times) due to errors with their orders. However, the service was friendly and well-intentioned, if not 100% competent. I would go back again.

We followed the owners here from Strada 18. While Boulevard is not kid friendly (like Strada) by any stretch the quality of the food is as good if not better. My wife is very picky about lamb and this one of the best she has had. My duck was perfectly cooked and amazingly moist. The owners are always present and very friendly.

We first tried this restaurant gem with a discount coupon. We had a fabulous meal and were treated like we were the owners, not coupon clipping customers. We have come back several times with friends and with our children and our expectations increase each time. We thoroughly enjoyed Mother's Day Brunch: menu featured a wide variety of food that appealed to even our pickiest eaters and we could "mix and match" items from the fixed price and a la carte menus. Service was the perfect blend of feeling comfortable and not rushed, and at the same time, anticipating everything we wanted. Boulevard 18 is our new favorite restaurant!

Our first visit..... had been a huge fan of Bistro Bonne Nuit which has closed.... So, we tried this one to celebrate my wife's birthday. Food was very good - portions large enough for a second meal....which we had at home the next night - still tasted very good. Our waitress was fantastic - helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and made us feel very much at home. We will definitely go back and have already recommended to a couple of friends.

I recently dined on a Sunday evening with my spouse and our 2 toddlers. The restaurant was less than 1/4 full and quiet. Décor and ambiance were average. Service was friendly but slow (even with few tables filled). Food was all very good (though not excellent). Portion sizes were on the larger side. Pricing was somewhat expensive (although in this case we had a 1/2 price coupon which made for a good price/quality deal). I would not return at the regular dinner prices, but I would definitely return with a comparable discount coupon.

The extensive menu featured something for everyone. We sampled several appetizers and entrees and none disappointed. The calamari was super--crispy and sweet. The salad was divine. The tart was brilliant and the profiteroles were the best we every had. Loved it all. The music was a bit loud to begin with but the staff turned it down a little. It's such a small room, the music should be a little more subdued in order to allow easy conversation. However, this will be a favorite spot, for sure.

Overall the food was very good. Portion sizes were good, especially for a French restaurant which normally has smaller portions. The wait staff at this charming French bistro are super friendly, and very attentive. We dined on a Sunday evening, and even though the restaurant was more than two-thirds full, we were never rushed. The food is simply delicious. We started with an appetizer of mushroom ravioli that melted in your mouth. The mushrooms were earthy and perfectly cooked. The main course, salmon on a bed of wilted spinach and black lentils, was also perfectly cooked. The portions are on the large side, but I guess you could always take some home. If you're having dessert, try the apple tart - crisp and flaky at the same time. We will definitely be back for more!

Second time I've eaten here, once in the summer and once in the winter. Good seasonal variation of the menu. Highly recommend the hanger steak, excellent flavor and cooked perfectly to the requested medium rare. Wild mushroom ravioli appetizer was to die for. Interesting cocktails, good wine selection. Terrific service. Tends to the noisy side, especially when the dining room is full. All told, a keeper!

Delicious food & drinks. Glavlox was delicious;would have liked more and a lighter (thinner) sauce. Freese salad was really great. Muscles were tiny, like periwinkles…might be a seasonal problem but it lessons the meal quite a bit. I recommend the white cosmo with elderberry in it…not too sweet, delicious. When the muscles are that tiny, customers should be warned.Service was wonderful, especially considering it waS Valentine's Day and the crowds were arriving.
