Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and celebrated our anniversary here and enjoyed the experience. We split the cheese plate appetizer and the bleu cheese and tomato salad. I had the 8 oz. filet cooked Diane and she had the Colorado Trout and both were very good. We split the bread pudding for dessert and it was excellent. Our server Joe did a great job. We will go back for sure. We want to try the small plates at happy hour."

  • "Crab cakes, prime rib, and lobster/asparagus mac & cheese were very good. "Mixed salad," though, is really iceberg lettuce with a few other greens. Staff recommended a great bottle of wine. Waitress, however, was really slow (restaurant half full). She also brought salads and entrees while we were still eating our appetizer - a big pet peeve of ours. And while eating our main dish, she asked if we wanted to order dessert. Assembly line dining? Yeah. Our waitress also didn't seem to care that it was our anniversary. Oh well - plenty of other options in Boulder."

  • "Our waitress Melissa was great. Very friendly and entertaining too! She knew the menu and what to recommend. The food was very good. I just thought the cocktails could have been bigger for the price. Overall it was a nice evening to celebrate with our friends."

  • "The dinner was not good. I had a Delmonico steak and my wife had a NY Strip. My wife and I have had better steaks from Costco. Our waitress never even asked how the food was or if we enjoyed our dinner. We went to the Chophouse to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary and the wait staff knew this. No big deal for them. Big mistake! We will probably never dine at another Chophouse again."

  • "Went with a group of 8, and I was not terribly impressed with anything except the beer. Our server was very nice and accommodating but a few things came out wrong and a couple of steaks were dropped on the floor. They did the right thing by comping us appropriately, but no one raved about the food. My Manhattan was very good, my seared tuna was very good, but the Caesar salad tasted like mayo. Lastly, the local beers are great. I would definitely come back for happy hour and probably give dinner another shot."

  • "Staff quick to pick up on a special occasion and provided plenty of time between visits to the table while taking excellent care of us."

  • "Your wait staff was working way too hard, had too many people to serve in the bar area and no one was stepping in to pick up the slack. I honestly felt horrible for our server as he was crushed and couldnt come up for air for the entire 2 hours that we were there. We finally placed our order at 7:00 after sitting there for 30 minutes, we left the place at 8:30 with uneaten food because the guests werent hungry any longer because it took way too long. Drinks were forgotten about consistently during the evening and my second beer finally came to the table as I was paying the bill. Not a very good evening and my sons birthday at that."

  • "Six of us came here for Father's Day dinner. One person had steak, which was great. Other dishes included buffalo burger (good), mountain trout (excellent, cooked beautifully, but literally swimming in butter!). The chicken fingers on the kids' menu has a spicy smoked pepper undertone to it which our child didn't care for. And the mac and cheese looked goopy and the other child didn't care for it too much. So the kids menu was not so great and I think the best items were the steak and the mountain trout."

  • " Unfamiliar with their beer selection, the waitress brought me samples until I found what I wanted (a red rye). We had the ahi tuna appetizer - absolutely delicious with an amazing sauce drizzled over it. We split a house salad, which was plenty big for each. I ordered the filet mignon special medium rare and my son had the Delmonico steak medium rare and they were both cooked perfectly to our liking. The timing of when we were served each dish was quick (just right), and our waitress was knowledgeable, friendly, attentive, but not overkill. The only critiques I have are that they have paper over the tablecloths (I don't like that crinkly feel), and the table next to us seemed close in proximity. Expensive but worth it."

  • "The Boulder Chophouse did not disappoint. They have good steaks which are cooked properly to order. The lamb and pork chops are also quite good. Like most steakhouses, they have a decent wine list with lots of red wine choices, many of them reasonably priced. They also have a good selection of local beers available. I had a duo of small beef filets, one prepared "Diane" style and the other with a Gorgonzola topping. Both were tender, cooked correctly, and very tasty. The Chophouse and Mixed Green salads were both of good size and made with fresh ingredients. The cornbread is plentiful and served in a small cast iron skillet. All in all, a very good dinner and we didn't even have reservations."

  • "We celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Boulder Chop House, and had a very enjoyable experience. Most notable was the service: the host was very gracious, and gave us our appetizer compliments of the house because our reservation was delayed, even though we did not express any dissatisfaction. Our server found that difficult balance point between being personable without intrusion, and anticipated many of our requests. The steaks were cooked to perfection. My only complaint would be the stuffed pork chop: I asked the chef to determine the best done-ness for that cut, and it arrived with a beautifully juicy center. However, the outside was cooked to a toughness that I found difficult to cut and to swallow."

  • "We've been to the Boulder ChopHouse a number of times. Food and service are always good. This latest visit was exceptional. We had the Colorado Trout. It may have been the best prepared and presented seafood dish we've had since moving to Boulder. Try it, you'll like it."

  • "The food was alright. My crab cake was not like any other crab cake I've had before and I was slightly disappointed. It seamed to be steamed or baked, rather than pan seared which I prefer. My steak was cooked properly and the wine was tasty. My husbands white cheddar mashed potatoes desperately needed salt. My favorite part of the meal was my cocktail which as the Geisha, it was fabulous. The other issue I had was that it was very cold in the restaurant, I almost put my coat back on. I asked the waiter if he could turn the heat up or maybe the AC off but he didn't do anything, despite saying he would. "

  • "we've eaten here many times, and this restaurant never disappoints. Made last minute reservations for a large group, and they easily fit us in. THey have a very big 'back' room fit for parties of 8 or more. Love the menu, there is always something for carnivores and vegetarians alike. I've heard that they have a good happy hour...we'll be back to check that out this summer."

  • "I've had two great meals here, both dinners, and enjoyed their top quality filet mignon twice. Most recently tried and loved the lobster mac and cheese as an appetizer to share (it's super rich) and it was gone in minutes. Love the downtown location and inside vibe of this place, especially fun for celebrating - congratulations CU class of 2014! Their service is top-notch, staff is always there when you need them but not annoyingly so. And at the end of the night, they unobtrusively removed our plates, discreetly packaged our leftovers and set them aside until we were ready to leave. Timing is everything, and appreciated. Every time I come to Boulder, I come here. However, their filet is so good I never try anything else. "

  • "We having been to ChopHouse in a few years, this visit was a tad bit of a disappointment. The service was outstanding, the steak melted in your mouth, but the plate was thin and I didn't feel there was good value. "

  • "We eat here whenever in Boulder because of the consistently good food, good service. For graduation week we ate at the ChopHouse twice, once in the restaurant and the second time in the bar. In spite of being a very busy graduation week, the staff graciously responded to all our individuals requests both nights. The steaks were excellent, the prime rib sandwich a perfect choice. I especially liked the Seared Tuna appetizer combined with the Caprese salad for lighter dining. The Colorado trout was light and tasty. Wine recommendations met our expectations. "

  • "We made reservations for after CU graduation. That week we needed to add one person but they were booked solid. The manager and the host staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. Despite being booked and having no cancellations they allowed us to squeeze in 5 at a 4 top. They even accommodated us when we arrived early. The wait staff was amazing as was the food. Everything was five stars. Can't wait to go back. "

  • "My wife and I ate at the Chophouse before attending a play at B.E.T.C. I started with the onion soup (excellent) and my wife had the wedge (very good). Our entrees were a fillet (me) and the trout (my wife). Both dishes were perfectly prepared and both of us would order them again. Unlike many Boulder restaurants, the Chophouse has a varied and reasonably-priced wine list. We had a very nice Malbec that I would order again in a second. Our server was excellent - poised, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The complimentary corn bread was good, as usual - as was the coffee. (We didn't have time to try the deserts.) We've eaten at the Chophouse before and enjoyed it, especially sitting outside where we can "people watch.""

  • "Prime rib was small and tough. Porterhouse steak was good. Cheddar mashed potatoes were ok. Booth was too small for 4 with large table just a few feet away didn't provide for nice setting. "

  • "We were there on graduation day so understood that it was going to be busy. Unfortunately our seating was in the middle of the room and as the waitstaff passed by they hit the back of my chair almost every time someone passed by. Service was less than average. Just expected more for the price we were paying not an enjoyable dinning experience. "

  • "We went for the steaks/meat. The prime rib was tough, but tasty and not hot when brought to our table. My husband order the larger cut and was brought a small one. They nicely offered to fix it, but he didn't want to wait for another. While eating an additional, smaller piece was brought for him complimentary. It was tasty and hot and a bit more tender. Our server was pleasant, but a bit cheeky and harassed my young adult son when he ordered the appetizer sampler and didn't know that it typically serves 4- and could not finish it!!! He didn't really come check on us about our meal so when he finally did I mentioned that my prime rib was tasty, but not hot and was tough. He would up not charging us for my meal which was very nice. "

  • "We went here for dinner on a Friday night. The restaurant wasn't extremely packed but was busy. We were greeted immediately by the hostess and the server when we were sat. At that time, we each selected a glass of wine. We never felt rushed to order our meals and took our time selecting an appetizer first. We picked the lobster mac and cheese and it came out a short time later. It was perfect for a shared appetizer among 3 people and we all enjoyed it. After we were finished with our appetizer the server brought us the cornbread, which was warm and the sweet butter served alongside was a perfect finish. Our dinners came out shortly after that and we all enjoyed what we selected. Overall, it was a great dining experience. "

  • "My wife and I had a reservation at 7:30, ut we arrived early to have a drink at th ebar. The waitress said we would be seated in about 15 minutes. 45 minutes later we still did not have a table. Once we sat down at the table it took a good 15 minutes to see our waitress and then the bread took another 15-20 minutes to arrive. I only noticed this because my wife was starving. From the time we sat down it took an hour for our food to arrive. The food was great! After we were done eating the staff was very attentive with our check and it just made it seem like they cared more about getting paid and us out of there then they did with serving us. I doubt we'll go back as there are too many great places to eat in the area. "

  • " Easter Brunch they don't know what they are doing. Menu is confusing, waiter admitted this right when we sat down at the table. Wife is lactose intolerant, her food order was wrong twice in a row. We had to wait 15-20 minutes before each new "buffet serving from the kitchen. We were apologized too, no less than 5 times and it never got any better. The final straw was when my 11 year old daughter order the cheesecake 9what she had been waiting for thru all of breakfast) and our waiter told her "he could not order that because it would have to come from the kitchen and it would take them forever to get it for her" NOW THAT'S GOOD SERVICE!! I was so frustrated by the whole experience I emailed the General Manger and heard nothing from him. "

  • "We have been here several times and one criteria for judging service is whether I have to ask for refills on water. I had the most attentive bus boy who, when I joked that he should leave the pitcher of water, brought me a second glass remarking that it was just in case he didn't get back in time to fill my first water glass. That is the type of considerate and fun customer service I look for. We brought friends for a special dinner and the food was excellent with the exception of the sirloin tips being a little chewy."

  • "We came to brunch last year, and it was fantastic. It was one price level, and all food was included, and featured at the buffet, AND included unlimited drinks. This year, it was this weird 3-tiered pricing level, and drinks were not included, and worst of all, the food wasn't as good as the year before. Sad to say, we will not be attending brunch next year, not worth the price."

  • "Went to Chophouse on Easter to treat my parents and family. We weren't in any particular rush but I was not prepared to wait 75 minutes for my main course. I initially had my kids eat just a little from the buffet and yet after 45 minutes I was encouraging them to go back for thirds just to give them something to do. When the food did arrive, I had ordered the eggs Benedict with seafood. What I got was simply pitiful. I had something that resembled a half-cooked egg mcmuffin. All for $35. My muffin was untoasted and the egg and hollandaise tepid. I had received an apology from our waitress after an hour's wait but that was it. I was charged over $400 for the worst dining experience I've had since moving to Boulder in 1986. Pass, pass, pass."

  • "This is a great restaurant in the heart of the Pearl Street district in Boulder, CO. The food is consistently great, the service is top notch and the ability to sit outside when the weather is conducive is always a nice option. We have eaten here numerous times when we visit our son who attends CU and not once disappointed. When we ask him to pick out a restaurant he would like to eat at ,it is always the Chophouse for his favorite steak !!!"
