A word from Bouchon
Highly acclaimed chef Thomas Keller (of The French Laundry) is behind this beautiful Yountville restaurant. Enjoy excellent French bistro cuisine in a dining room offering wonderful Parisian ambiance.

We invite you to visit Bouchon Bakery, an authentic, country-style boulangerie located next door Bouchon Bistro. The Bakery serves traditional French breads and pastries and is open from 7am - 7pm daily.

We were very excited to eat at Bouchon, but it was terrible. Our waiter didn't pay any attention to us, he was VERY impersonal and bland. He gave us awful service, didn't ask if we liked our meals (which we didn't), and all around just ruined our experience. Our food was just average. We both ordered the suggested "best" meal on the menu, and I ate just 1 bite because it was so tough. My husband was so hungry, he ate his, but it was not worth the $35. So disappointed!!! The restaurant itself was nice, the bar looked fun and was busy, but we would never go back. There are too many other places in that price range (or cheaper) that are worth dining at. Bouchon was a huge dissapointment.

We ate a Bouchon most recently the first day that they had re-opened after remodeling. The space was far to packed, and the service was off. While the food was very good, it was not at the same level as my previous visits.

It exceeded our high expectations. They do a fabulous job all the way around. I was particularly pleased to get in considering they had just finished a major kitchen renovation, had been closed for a month, and were doing a "soft" re-opening. I will book Bouchon anytime I'm in the area.

  • Our reservation was cancelled
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 5/10/2008
Our reservation was cancelled by the restaurant which was really disappointing since we tried to reserve about 2 to 3 months in advance by telephone and were repeatedly told to call back "in a month" then, in "two weeks" and finally told us that they wouldn't take reservations for the first two weeks of May until May 1st. On April 30 I managed to make the reservation at 9.15 through Open Table, only to be cancelled on May 8 because the restaurant was closed for the weekend. We had been in Napa for about a week and so to get cancelled a day before without any other chance to dine there (we left Npa on May 11) was really frustrating. It seems the restaurant doesn't care much about its customers.

Open Table is a joke. I have already sent two e-mails complaining about the fact that we didn't go to Bouchon because Open Table erroneously booked us at a restaurant that was not open. You system is automated and, consequently, useless when it counts. Do your homework or, at least, your job.

Apparently Bouchon was closed for kitchen renovation, so while I received nice reminders from Open Table, it was a passing remark from a random person that clue'd me into the closure and allowed me to secure another reservation for that evening. If there is recordkeeping on the side of the restaurant via Open Table, perhaps a notice about the closure would have been appropriate.

ignore the ratings. bouchon was undergoing reservations and were not open as of the may 8 date of our reservation. they called about a week before alerting me to this possibility and if they were unable to finish on time they would call back and find an alternative restaurant booking. but they never did call back. i only found out they still weren't opened by calling them .... and hearing a message that their renovation had delayed opening until the 12th.

Bouchon was closed for renovation, but they called us and made reservations at Redd Restaurant for us. To show what class Bouchon has, they comped us a beautiful bottle of '1998 Vou Clicquot Champagne. The food at Redd was excellent and the service was great! Will definitly return to Redd Restaurant and to Bouchon. Thank you Bouchon and Redd for making my birthday dinner very special. Mr. & Mrs. Sato

I've been to Bouchon and love the food. However, this trip I was very disappointed. We booked it and arrived at the restaurant only to find that it was still closed for renovations and no one called us to tell us. It should not have been an option on opentable if they were closed. We only had two nights in the Napa Valley and one was wasted because we couldn't go to the restaurant we booked.

Our waiter did not show up at the table for 15-20 minutes after we sat down because he was too busy chatting with friends at the oyster bar. We had bread and butter long before any drink order or even water was made available. He finally took our bar order and then seemed to push us to take the food order. Removed the wine list without asking. Salad arrived with cocktails (are we on a time limit here?), and he never asked again if we wanted wine. We finally asked a busboy if he would bring the list back and another waitress showed up with it. I ordered wine, and the manager brought it but immediately went to my husband for the tasting...bad form. The food was quite good, but the very poor service ruined it for me.

My boyfriend and I had high expectations for Bouchon. The first course (Salmon rillette) was very good, as was the bread and the croutons. My boyfriend's first course, short ribs, were excellent, but my main course, mushroom and spinach crepe, was ver mediocre. While the crepe looked really good it was not season and I had to ask for salt because it really did not taste like anything. The desert, lemon tart, was outstanding. The reason I did not give the restaurant a higher mark was because of my crepe.

Not as good as expected. Way too expensive. We had been given menu recommendations and were very much looking forward to visiting Bouchon for the first time. Upon being given the menu we were advised that the kitchen had been partially shut down as renovations were about to begin. Consequently, the menu had been adjusted accordingly and our recommended items were not available. Perhaps this is an unjust review as the place was in disarray, but if they could not meet their own standards the place should not have remained open. Bottom line: the service was good, the bread was great, the entrees and desserts wire just OK. Considering the overall experience, this was simply overpriced. I cannot speak highly of this experience.

The restaurant neglected to inform patrons that their kitchen was about to undergo major renovations. The did continually mention it when other patrons complained about their food. I was disappointed. This had been my favorite Napa restaurant for a long time however this time the food and service were not what it used to be. My entree was lukewarm even the second time after it had been sent back. I ate it anyway because at that point I was tired of waiting and hungry. Although they comp'd dessert - this entree should have been comp'd as we didn't really want dessert. The wine the waiter recommended was not good and when we complained he said that was the 2nd time he heard a complaint that day. Seems like he shouldn't have reco'd it at all. I have company coming from out of town and I'm not taking them there which is a shame. A victim of its own success? The magic was diminished for me - a local.

This was to be my husband's and my first Michelin starred restaurant dining experience. We were both disappointed. First, we asked to share a salad to start. We were brought two salads and later found that we were charged for two. The dressing was good, but the piece of goat cheese was small and the salad was otherwise forgettable. My husband ordered the bouillabaisse and received a very small portion. He thought that the seafood smelled bad and thought the sauce tasted odd. Thinking it was the fennel flavor he didn't care for, I switched my coquilles st. jacques with his dish. While I thought the flavor was fine, the texture of the seafood was a little soft. Not sure if it was the food, but I had stomach upset for days after.

After expecting a great deal from this restaurant we were disappointed in many aspects. The service was slow from the bar, and our cocktails arrived at the same time as our first course, after waiting a good twenty minutes with only tap water on hand. The first course that we chose (a soup and a salad) were curiously bland and quite ordinary in presentation. The main course of chicken was similarly quite tasteless, and arguably underdone as well, while the beet and smoked sturgeon slad was well-presnted yet again, strangely lacking in flavour. The best part of the meal was the dessert, a superb tarte au citron.

Being a Thomas Keller production We went in with much anticipation only to be let down with the flat flavorless mediocre dishes. I started with the chilled half lobster and requested Aioli on the side. The waiter was obligating and delivered the Aioli that seemed to be made using a low fat mayo out of a jar. The salad was mesclun mix tossed in what I thought was a citrus vinegar. Moving on to the Duck Confit Cassoulet that consisited of white beans and bread crumbs with the occasional nibblet of duck. And that is how it went the rest of the meal. The wine list was incrediable. Oh, if you want to use the rest rooms. They are located outside. You can not miss them. My husband and I were visiting the area from New York and worked Bouchon into our itinerary early on. Our waiter was very friendly and professional, but the food did not live up his presence. While we were there, we overheard another waiter discussing that the kitchen was in the midst of renovations and that all food was being prepared in a temporary setting - which definitely showed. The best thing on the menu was the salmon tartare, and that didn't have to be cooked. I can't understand why Bouchon wouldn't close down during the renovation period because, while no one wants to lose money, their reputation is likely hurting due to the decision. It certainly colored our opinion of the place.

We had a memorable experience and it was a meal of a lifetime for my mother and I. This was her first visit to Napa and we both really appreciated the knowledgeable yet relaxed service. The restaurant was packed but we still felt like the waiter was prioritizing our needs, which we really appreciated. My only criticism is that the banquette seating at the back wall is really tight (not much room between tables) and that made it difficult for me to get out to go to the washroom. Thank you for the great experience and we will definitely be back.
