A word from Bouchon - Santa Barbara
Fresh, local ingredients, prepared with care. Excellent wines that reflect the quality and character of our region and work in concert with the cuisine. Warm, inviting ambiance, service at a relaxed, leisurely pace.
Santa Barbara ‘Wine Country Cuisine’ means we source our ingredients using an ‘as-fresh-and-as-local-as-possible’ approach, with fish from the Santa Barbara Channel and produce from the surrounding countryside. We then take into account how these flavors can be presented in concert with our local wines. I believe you’ll taste the difference and see how well they work together.
We believe Santa Barbara is producing some of the finest Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah. Other locally produced varietals will surprise you with their quality, variety and approachability. Please ask your server for recommendations on how any of our 40+ wines by the glass match up with your selections. Bon Appètit!

  • "Our favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara, when our budget and their reservations list permit. Service is always pluperfect, with professional, attentive, knowledgeable staff. Food is creative, best of local fresh fare with thoughtful paring of local wines. Save room for our special dessert, The Duchess; you will not be disappointed"

  • "Amazing dinner to celebrate our anniversary while on vacation. Great wine and food. They even had rose petals and champagne with dessert as a surprise! Really nice service."

  • "Starting with our waiter Tony, everything about our evening was fantastic! The food was creative and terrific and Tony took the time to explain the local content of items on the menu and recommend local wines that complimented each nicely. He and the maitre'd accented our wine choices with descriptions of each wine's characteristics, as well as personal notes about their own interactions with the vintners and wineries. The service was personal and efficient, neither overbearing nor absent. Absolutely a must when you want a special meal to celebrate or want to impress friends and out-of-town visitors."

  • "While being on a vacation in California (we are from Belgium), we went to Bouchon to celebrate my wife's birthday. It was a great culinary experience. The chef nicely combines French cuisine with a local touch and fresh local ingredients. The staff is very nice and helpful and their extensive cart of local wines (a lot of them also available per glass) is impressive. Children are very welcome and their are even options to adapt dishes fro the menu to their tastes. I would certainly recommend Bouchon to anyone looking for an excellent culinary experience in Santa Barbara!"

  • "This was our first visit to Bouchon. The food was as good as expected, but the service was disappointing. While the server was friendly and helpful and skilled in her wine pariings, once she took our order, she disappeared and was impossible to flag down (even when she was at an adjacent table.) She promised to come by to discuss our entree wine options, but the entrees were served too soon. Wine was comped, but would have preferred an attentive server instead. Folks at the table next to us had a similar experience based on their comments to us. Would go back, but request a different server."

  • "We first dined at Bouchon a few months ago based on a friend's recommendation. It was so fantastic that I made sure to make a reservation on our next trip to Santa Barbara! The food is superb, the service is equally excellent, and the overall experience is really special. Highly recommend!"

  • "Although we get to Santa Barbara only once a year, we always plan to have dinner there on every trip. The food and service is first-class. We've never been disapponted"

  • "Dined at Bouchon with my wife for her birthday while visiting for a short getaway from LA. The staff were extremely attentive and provided rose pedals and a special dish from the kitchen as a treat before our meal. The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for being romantic without being stuffy and pretentious. It had an atmosphere that left you feeling instantly comfortable. Our waiter was full of smiles, extremely helpful, and always prompt. Both our dishes were terrific. The Herb-Crusted Yellowfin was cooked to perfection. Her Char-grilled Rack of Lamb was cooked exactly to request. Both left us beyond happy."

  • "Remarkable food and a very knowledgeable server made for a delightful dining experience. Unique flavor combinations (cheese tart was remarkable) pork belly was exciting and the wine was most invigorating."

  • "Special occasion Anniv.. Had over due bottle wine and the staff was just so accommodating, "no big deal it happens" and let us taste the new winery wine prior to getting a replacement! Fast, polite and well versed in food and wine! Duck was outstanding as well as the Tomato Bisk soup. Felt the price was well worth it! We will return!"

  • "This restaurant is perennially rated the best, or close, in Santa Barbara not without reason. The food is due every superlative and is accompanied by knowledgeable, attentive service and a fine wine list, highlighting local selections. The feel of the rather smallish, narrow restaurant and front patio is decidedly like a Parisian bistro and exudes the same charm and inviting warmth. It is boisterous, for sure, but in a good way. Simply put, one cannot go wrong planning an evening here."

  • "Lovely, romantic small restaurant with great food and attentive staff. Good wine list focusing on wines from Santa Barbara and Santa Ynez valley. We ate outside on their porch area and it was delightful."

  • "Return visit for me. I went with folks who had never been to bouchon. One foodie wine expert who was very impressed, and one adult with a five year old's palate who was thrilled with his meal. Really something for everybody without having one of those obnoxious menus which goes on for pages. For summer, it might be a good idea to have some lighter options on the menu as most of the plates are a bit rich. I had the rack of lamb on my prior visit. Great. I tried their signature dish this last visit-- the duck with maple glaze. Very good, but the roast duck would have been enough without the confit. Just too much food for me after having just shared the scallop trio and mushroom ragout. Foxen Julia wine was a great choice."

  • "We were fortunate enough to dine at Bouchon on Bastille Day & have our 21 year old grandson join us for his first visit to this wonderful restaurant. They were celebrating the 16th anniversary of the restaurant opening on Bastille Day with a complimentary glass of champagne...it just kept getting better...the three of us each ordered something different, starters of crab cakes, salad with buratta & peach & that wonderful french onion soup, all delicious, for entrees, steak, yellow fin tuna & the trio of scallops, a lovely ABC Pinot Noir topped off the wonderful meal...unfortunately, we were all too full for dessert...hopefully next time!"

  • "My girlfriend and I were in town celebrating our anniversary. We planned for 1 special dinner out during our weekend and chose Bouchon as our destination. As we were celebrating, the restaurant was thoughtful enough to cover our table with rose petals, which was a very nice touch and a great way to start the evening. All the food we had was delicious. We started with the scallop trio. All three parts were great, but the scallop with the potatoes was our favorite. We ended with a chocolate chip bread pudding, which was a great ending. The entire staff was amazing the entire night. Our server made suggestions for wine which went perfectly with our food. It was a great night overall."

  • "We dined here for our wedding anniversary and had an outstanding experience. Great ambiance and the service was top notch. I wanted a vegetarian dish and there were none on the menu. When I inquired, the waiter told me the chefs could create something based on what veggies they had available. He made sure to take note of which vegetables I like and which I don't care for. I absolutely loved the vegetable risotto I ended up with. My husband enjoyed his meal as well. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Santa Barbara."

  • "Dined at Bouchon while vacationing in CA based upon a friend's strong recommendation. There are a limited number of entrees available, none of which were my first choice when dining out. The pan seared scallops were good. The bread was delicious and the service outstanding. Rather strange for an upscale eatery is the availability of only one restroom for the entire restaurant located next door in the special events room."

  • "Bouchon's food preparation was incredible. The menu definitely had it's limits, though. If, for instance, you are not a big fan of pork products you have to ask to alter the recipe or eliminate a number of otherwise attractive options. The portions are actually meal-sized which allows you to leave feeling like you have had dinner, versus just a tasting. The service was amazing. The waiter was knowledgeable without any air of superiority when it came to sharing his understanding of food and it's wine pairings. Tastings of the wines were offered prior to committing yourself. The servers, however, are coached to give you too much unsolicited information. Nevertheless, they visited the table and asked the right questions just enough."

  • "Spectacular, intimate dinner experience. Food was terrific; but what made it extra special was the service. Waiter was brilliant, checked in regularly, but unobtrusively, spoke softly and intimately with us. Great wine choices to pair with the food."

  • "We visited this restaurant thinking that it was the same as the Bouchon in Napa Valley. Come to find out that it is a totally different restaurant. After getting over the surprise, we decided to stay. The food was overall, very good! Their French Onion Soup was very, very good!"

  • "I had asked a few friends to recommend a nice restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. Each of them gave me a short list of recommendations and Bouchon was on all of them. The menu had a nice variety to choose from and the waiter was very helpful. My husband has some food allergies and restrictions and the chef was able to alter the dishes to accommodate his needs. They happily split an appetizer, making it easy to share and when my husband had an extra course, the waiter brought me an extra little something so that I didn't "feel left out". A very nice touch. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious! Bouchon is an excellent place for a special occasion, it's a bit pricey for an everyday dinner."

  • "After the anticipation of the visit I was sadly disappointed. My Tuna entree was cooked expertly, however, the risotto with clams was overdone and the bacon ingredient was unnecessary."

  • "I am picky when it comes to service when a restaurant is charging good money and has a good reputatation. I found the service average at best. I had to ask to have my water glass filled. And this wasn't a drought issue thank you. They seemed confused with my dessert order. It was my birthday. The waiters were constantly hovering in one area instead of dispersing and checking peoples tables. For food, my lamb was good but what it came with average. Also they seemed anxious to clear my plate off when I was clearly still eating. Presentation was nothing extraordinary. I had a lovely time because I was with my boyfriend & it was my birthday, but I wouldn't recommend it. Restaurant is overrated. Definately confused feeling for this small place."

  • "We celebrated my sisters 70th birthday and they were so accommodating... they let me drop off a special cake & birthday balloon & gave us the best outdoor table for the 5 of us. No request was too large or small that wasn't graciously fulfilled. The wines, the food, background music all spectacular. Reasonably priced for the outstanding dinner selections available."

  • "We had 8 women in our party, visiting from Atlanta, Houston and New York for a bachelorette party weekend. We were seated at a round table in the outdoor portion of the restaurant. The staff were very attentive, kept our wine and water glasses full constantly, accommodated all our requests, and put up with how loud we were. We lingered a while after we finished dinner and the staff even helped us getting a limo to drive us around the rest of the night. We absolutely loved the food, and will highly recommend it to others visiting Santa Barbara."

  • "Unfortunately, Bouchon failed to deliver food quality and service. My first outing with Bouchon's Santa Barbara location proved to be a disaster for my birthday dinner. Two of my friends decided to take me out for dinner at Bouchon and in the reservation, I did state that the dinner was celebrating my birthday. None of the employees acknowledged my birthday nor did they remotely care about how the food tasted. The waiter did not ask how enjoyed my three appetizers. The only time he asked was after the entrees were finished. Crab cakes were mushy in texture and lacked flavour. Peach salad also lacked flavour and the grilled peaches were rather small. The cheese tart contained an extremely thick crust with very little cheese!"
