Diner Reviews
  • "Bouchon should be on your consider list for dinner. The waitstaff was very friendly, and brought us amazingly delicious bread while we scrutinized the menu. Everything looked amazing, however there were a few things that were part of the dishes that we couldn't eat. Thankfully Bouchon ISNT one of the restaurants that refuses to make deletions for dietary restrictions. Our waiter helped us pair our appetizers and mains with the right type of wine for what we were going to eat. All dishes came out beautifully prepared, with superb presentation and ingredients. We had the Beet Salad, Steak, and Duck as our appetizers and mains. A Blueberry ice ream/Lemon cake for desert which paired with everything we ate perfectly.Highly recommended."

  • "Dinner on the patio was beautiful. As a vegetarian and no vegetarian entrees listed, the waiter said NO PROBLEM and delivered a delicious entree which my companion also chose. The service was exquisite. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgable, and very helpful. Adorable! I appreciated the clientele being nicely dressed as it enhanced our experience to more than a "beach town" restaurant."

  • "I had dinner there last Wednesday it was no surprise. It was very busy at 7pm midweek. The room gets really loud when crowded. We were seated in a hallway that leads to the patio. Normally a tiny table in a hallway would be annoying, but this one protects from some of the noise level of the main dining area. When the door was open cool air blasted against the back of my companion, but again, the crowded room was hot so it was refreshing. The host and our server were so attentive we were pleased with service. My companion had the wagyu skirt steak. It was served with a pat of herbed butter. The meat was perfectly executed. Personally I felt the dish was so rich so I removed the butter. I had the venison. It had a very slight hint of game."

  • "My wife and I had an excellent dinner here and it will be our first choice the next time we're in Santa Barbara."

  • "Great meal out on the front patio under nice warm heaters. Wished cocktails could be ordered, not just wine and beer. Our waiter was very good. All the food was delicious. There was a slight hiccup in that dessert took an excessively long time. The waiter apologized that the dessert chef had to leave and the waiter had to make the dessert . We were not charged, however, so it was not a big deal. Would definitely recommend."

  • "My husband and I dined here to celebrate my 30th birthday. We absolutely devoured our meals - I ordered the duck, my husband ordered the venison. Both were perfection on a plate, and the portion size was just right! We got a bottle of local Pinot Noir to pair with the meal, and it was equally delicious! This is a great place to celebrate any special occasion, and the atmosphere is wonderfully romantic :-)"

  • "An elegant preface to Metamorphoses. From soup to salad to entre to wine - faultless. An hour's drive here from home, but I will make it. The duck is on my itinerary, I spotted it on the table next to us and I knew that fate would bring us together."

  • "Ate during a vacation and at the recommendation of concierge. Waiter, Tony, was energetic and top notch. He knew the entire wine list and was a great help in food pairing. Menu and wine all from local sources. Mushroom ragout appetizer was outstanding!! We sat outdoors and were comforted by by the heaters. If you want great "farm to. Table" and a great place to sample the central coast wines in an upbeat place this is it!!! If you want the same in a quiet, low key, place go to Downey's on State street."

  • "The food and service are consistently good. Menu is always changing with what is in season."

  • "Friendly service but I still don't like or understand when restaurants announce two options for water, neither of which are tap water (Frank Bruni wrote about this a few years ago if I remember correctly). Everything was delicious. Portion size is generous in my opinion. Expensive but worth it for a special occasion."

  • "This was our second time there, this time with a friend from out of state. Both times were outstanding experiences - great food, wonderful service, great presentation! Always difficult to choose an entrée - only because they are all so enticing. We all chose something different and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The waiter, Tony, was terrific!"

  • "In the center of the theater district, interesting people. We really enjoyed dining on the patio area on the street. Service was very personal, informed, attentive. The food was delicious, and the wine paired wonderfully."

  • "When reserving a B&B in Santa Barbara (about two weeks in advance) we asked for a recommendation for "really good" restaurant nearby. Bonchon was it, and it turned out to be as "great" as "good" can get. It was a busy Saturday night in town and the only reservation left was for 5 p.m. We weren't too excited about the early seating ( 8 or 9 was or preference ) but we've found it a good sign when a recommended eatery gets soo booked so far in advance. Our advice woild be if you can only get in at 5 p.m. go for it. Fine food, huge selection of Santa Barbara area wines, excellent service."

  • "Outstanding menu made with same-day, locally-sourced ingredients in very exceptional combinations. Very attentive and knowledgeable servers. Yellow fin tuna was excellent as was mushroom ragout. Venison was cooked exactly right. Superb wine list. Call several days early for reservations as this is a popular weekend dinner spot. Patio dining is very nice. Best for grown-ups. Men will be most comfortable in a sport jacket, slacks, and open-collared shirt."

  • "My fiance live in the Bay Area and love to visit Santa Barbara, but are frequently disappointed with the dining options, especially when comparing them to San Francisco's. Bouchon is the best fine dining experience we've had in Santa Barbara, both in terms of food and service. Timing was a little off, but our server worked hard to compensate for that with great wine recommendations and frequent check ins. Bonus points for the kitchen splitting all of our shared starters before bringing them out to the table. We were very satisfied with our starters, mains, and dessert and even got introduced to a delicious new Central Coast Pinot. Definitely our new SB favorite!"

  • "We had a great time. Our server, Kevin, was outstanding. The flat iron steak and salmon were delicious. The place is pretty small, but I didn't feel like I was crammed next to everyone. The size only made it much more cozy and comfortable. You can also see into the kitchen which adds to the energy and ambience of the place. The food is expensive but not outrageous, 30ish for main course and plenty of wine to choose from. Would visit again when we are in town again!"

  • "While Bouchon has been around for awhile, it remains one of the best eateries in Santa Barbara. We don't plan ahead and it always seems booked up on the weekends. When we did get in recently (via a little planning) we realized why it is a hard table to get. It is one of the best places to eat in Santa Barbara and the food was outstanding. The wine list features local wines and is extremely well curated. This is a must visit spot in SB!"

  • "Being a local and having known people who have worked here over the years, I"m embarrassed to say this was my first visit! The food was fresh with wonderful flavors, excellent (fish & lamb), service outstanding. I'll be back and I highly recommend."

  • "Very tasty seafood selections. Diners in our party had scallops, cod and salmon. These were all delicious, served with tasty accompaniments. Nice ambiance. Though we were from out of town, it proved to be the right choice for a 70th birthday celebration. Would eat here again to taste other enticing menu items."

  • "Dining at this restaurant was a wondering experience, the staff were friendly and attentive, not pretentious. The food was the best I'd eaten for a long time, cooked well, served beautifully and the wine we drank was exquisite, with a very knowledgeable Maître d . All in all a fabulous dining experience and I would recommend it to anyone."

  • "Crab cakes were very good, but my daughter ordered the chicken, very dissapointing. Dry and flavorless. If you advertise as one of the best chefs in the region, chicken should be easy....come on."

  • "Overall, we had a very enjoyable meal. The food was great, but the ambiance of the "private dining room" was not overly impressive. Due to the popularity of the restaurant, we were forced to dine at 8:30 p.m., well past our preference. However, the taste and presentation of the food was very good."

  • "The restaurant has a good ambience. Nice romantic setting with good wines. Unfortunately the staff there think they are Gods gift to restaurant service and were stuck up. I think I didn't fit the profile of the usual customer: old and boring."

  • "My daughter attends college in Santa Barbara; while visiting Santa Barbara we have dined at many of the fabulous restaurants that Santa Barbara/Montecito has to offer, Bouchon remains our favorite. The service, ambiance and food are incredible! I enjoy not being rushed through dinner and Bouchon provides a very relaxing dining experience. Reservations are a must!"

  • "Celebrated our 51st Anniversary with warm greeting at door, rose petals on table, friendly, professional, knowledgeable service from Hunter. The French 4 onion soup delicious, my husband's yellow fin tuna, prepared exactly as ordered...but my entree of trio of scallops....incredible!!! This meal was on par with any we have enjoyed by Wolfgang Puck, Michael Mina, or Thomas Keller... Dessert of warm chocolate molten lava cake with vanilla ice cream, splendid... How fortunate we are to have this fabulous restaurant in Santa Barbara ....BRAVO BOUCHON!!!!"

  • "We returned to our favorite Santa Barbara restaurant for a pre-Valentine's Day dinner. We've really zeroed in on the duck as a favorite, and it was fine, as always. Also had a couple of good local wines at various price points. Service was cordial and knowing. Only downer: who brings a toddler to a restaurant like this? Fortunately, one shriek and done. We'll be back."
