A word from Bouchon - Santa Barbara
Fresh, local ingredients, prepared with care. Excellent wines that reflect the quality and character of our region and work in concert with the cuisine. Warm, inviting ambiance, service at a relaxed, leisurely pace.
Santa Barbara ‘Wine Country Cuisine’ means we source our ingredients using an ‘as-fresh-and-as-local-as-possible’ approach, with fish from the Santa Barbara Channel and produce from the surrounding countryside. We then take into account how these flavors can be presented in concert with our local wines. I believe you’ll taste the difference and see how well they work together.
We believe Santa Barbara is producing some of the finest Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah. Other locally produced varietals will surprise you with their quality, variety and approachability. Please ask your server for recommendations on how any of our 40+ wines by the glass match up with your selections. Bon Appètit!

Diner Reviews
  • "I have to restrain my praise for this restaurant because it gets harder to book each time I do. The staff are highly professional, knowledgeable and welcoming. The food, fresh from the market, best of the season. The wine list is brilliant, extensive with the waiters spot on in their recommendations . And they remembered my favorite dessert, the Duchess, honoring our local Duchess of Guernsey. Please do not go so we can get a table again, soon."

  • "Bouchon is a foodie gem serving fresh California cuisine in a charming setting. Starting with amazing bread and butter, to their small but flavorful starters and farmers market inspired salads, Bouchon sets a great scene and table. Food delivery is a bit quick, so I'd you are looking to lounge and enjoy a two or the hour meal make sure to tell the waiter, or just order one portion at a time."

  • "One of the better restaurants in the area but both the entrees and appetizers are about $5 more than they should be. $35 for corkage on weekend when they don't serve cocktails?"

  • "Food was great but service not attentive. Ordered special app for 2 but it was forgotten. Waiter & runner not in sync. Ordered a Pinot waited for several minutes. Waiter came by table & dropped the wine list and said she couldn't find it & asked me to pick it out but then she ran off to another table. When she returned I pointed it out to her and she said I had asked for Merlot. I had not and my date said so. She just seemed to be distracted with decanting wine for another table to pay close attention to us. Food flavor and presentation was great. I have been here before and I know there service to usually be very good so would still go again. After so many mistakes I would have thought they would have wanted to offer something."

  • "A wonderful dining experience - Noted for their food and did not disappoint. Wild Alaska salmon atop polenta infused with marscapone and a sampling of vegetables to finish off the plate. Exquisite! Feature a great array of local wines. Service was as good as the food!"

  • "I have been to try this local stand out for years. It was great and I am so mad that it took this long to try it. Loved the mushroom ragout and one of the best salmon dishes in town."

  • "We celebrated our friends 25th wedding anniversary and it was a romantic touch for them to put a few rose petals on the table in front of them. They smelled lovely and it set a theme for the night- the smells coming from the open kitchen were wonderful. The crab cakes appetizer and the scallops prepared 3 ways were outstanding. I had salmon on polenta that melted in my mouth. Our whole party enjoyed being able to have wine that could change with each course as they serve so many wines by the glass. The chocolate lava cake was sinfully rich and the creme brûlée was classic and excellent tasting."

  • "We had an excellent dining experience at the Bouchon to celebrate my wife's birthday. The quality of their food was outstanding. In particular we enjoyed the flavors imparted by a mixture of spices. Our waiter provided excellent service and made an outstanding selection of a very fine wine. We will go back again for a special occasion."

  • "This is our favorite special occasion restaurant. We always love the food, & the service is always excellent. The chef is creative; the ingredients are fresh (produce from the SB Farmer's Market). Our waiter Hunter was so attentive and knowledgable, and helped us pick out the perfect wine (Samsara Pinot Noir. Wonderful. The wine list is amazing,) And while it's higher-priced than a more casual restaurant, it's still less expensive than the other 'fit for foodies' places we've been to (e.g. we've been stunned to see other restaurants serving $39 fish entrees; not only is Bouchon more reasonable, but no one matches their food.) The only caveat: we once ate in the "cork room" w/a group and it wasn't as much fun as the main restaurant."

Server was knowledgeable about the local wines, and made some great recommendations for our tour the next day. Will definitely be back."

  • "It is a small place, cozy and romantic. The servers are very attentive. The menu is based on local produce, and seafood. I had the special of the day black cod, with mustard sauce. It was excellent, the fish was well done, and the fig salad with Marcona almond had just the right amount of dressing, my husband had the scallop trio, another special of the day, it was also exceptional and fun, scallop prepared 3 ways. Overall recommend this place very highly if want a good meal and ambiance."

  • "We celebrated my husbands birthday at Bouchon Thursday night with friends and I can honestly say it was the best dining experience we have ever had! We selected the restaurant for the focus on local fresh foods & local wines combined with the description on the web site that insured great ambience. Our dinner was excellent but the greatest thing about Bouchon is the orchestration of the timing of the experience - we had a leisurely meal with lots of conversation and perfect timing between courses. They served seamlessly with little interruption of our conversation with friends we had not seen for awhile. Byron gave great suggestions and answered questions thoroughly so we all enjoyed our meals & the wine and a terrific dessert!"

  • "Overhyped this restaturant was highly recomended by hotel staff. The food served is french californian food focusing on local poduce and meats in this area. Ambience was nice and is well situated in downtown on the famous state street. Service was great but was busy that the server only had time to put our dishes on our table and thats it. No refills for water (sparkling) or wine had to be poured ourselves. Not typical in a classy restaurant. We ordered the venison and tuna dishes. Frankly the dishes were to healthy to be tasty. The tuna and meat was fresh and tasty. But the side dishes wer gross and not appetizing at all. Too healthy is just not very good tasting. I had to gag in my own mouth to swallow the food bc it was just to gross."

  • "Bouchon must labor much, at least for those coming from Northern California, under the need to distinguish itself from the other Bouchon -- but it does so in my opinion very well, emphasizing local wines and ingredients that, in Santa Barbara, are fairly distinguishable from what's availalable up Napa-Sonoma way. The scallop flight appetizer, and the salad Lyonnaise, were rich and perfectly suited for splitting. The salmon was tasty and fresh. And the chocolate chip bread pudding was comforting and satisfying. A really nice date night out for parents or tourists, both of which we were."

  • "Our favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara, when our budget and their reservations list permit. Service is always pluperfect, with professional, attentive, knowledgeable staff. Food is creative, best of local fresh fare with thoughtful paring of local wines. Save room for our special dessert, The Duchess; you will not be disappointed"

  • "Starting with our waiter Tony, everything about our evening was fantastic! The food was creative and terrific and Tony took the time to explain the local content of items on the menu and recommend local wines that complimented each nicely. He and the maitre'd accented our wine choices with descriptions of each wine's characteristics, as well as personal notes about their own interactions with the vintners and wineries. The service was personal and efficient, neither overbearing nor absent. Absolutely a must when you want a special meal to celebrate or want to impress friends and out-of-town visitors."

  • "While being on a vacation in California (we are from Belgium), we went to Bouchon to celebrate my wife's birthday. It was a great culinary experience. The chef nicely combines French cuisine with a local touch and fresh local ingredients. The staff is very nice and helpful and their extensive cart of local wines (a lot of them also available per glass) is impressive. Children are very welcome and their are even options to adapt dishes fro the menu to their tastes. I would certainly recommend Bouchon to anyone looking for an excellent culinary experience in Santa Barbara!"

  • "Bouchon is a very special place. We dine there whenever we are in SB and have never been disappointed. The menu is inventive, and the food is delicious. The wine list is impressive, and offers something at every price range. The wine steward was very helpful in guiding us in wonderful selections. The staff is knowledgeable and very well trained. We celebrated our niece's 30th birthday in a festive atmosphere."

  • "This was our first visit to Bouchon. The food was as good as expected, but the service was disappointing. While the server was friendly and helpful and skilled in her wine pariings, once she took our order, she disappeared and was impossible to flag down (even when she was at an adjacent table.) She promised to come by to discuss our entree wine options, but the entrees were served too soon. Wine was comped, but would have preferred an attentive server instead. Folks at the table next to us had a similar experience based on their comments to us. Would go back, but request a different server."

  • "Dined at Bouchon with my wife for her birthday while visiting for a short getaway from LA. The staff were extremely attentive and provided rose pedals and a special dish from the kitchen as a treat before our meal. The atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for being romantic without being stuffy and pretentious. It had an atmosphere that left you feeling instantly comfortable. Our waiter was full of smiles, extremely helpful, and always prompt. Both our dishes were terrific. The Herb-Crusted Yellowfin was cooked to perfection. Her Char-grilled Rack of Lamb was cooked exactly to request. Both left us beyond happy."

  • "Special occasion Anniv.. Had over due bottle wine and the staff was just so accommodating, "no big deal it happens" and let us taste the new winery wine prior to getting a replacement! Fast, polite and well versed in food and wine! Duck was outstanding as well as the Tomato Bisk soup. Felt the price was well worth it! We will return!"

  • "This restaurant is perennially rated the best, or close, in Santa Barbara not without reason. The food is due every superlative and is accompanied by knowledgeable, attentive service and a fine wine list, highlighting local selections. The feel of the rather smallish, narrow restaurant and front patio is decidedly like a Parisian bistro and exudes the same charm and inviting warmth. It is boisterous, for sure, but in a good way. Simply put, one cannot go wrong planning an evening here."
