Everything about the experience is TOP NOTCH. The menu is varied, the presentation is gorgeous, and the food is even better to eat than it is to look at. The service harks back to the golden age when servers were discreet and knowledgeable, pleasant (charming even) without being intrusive. Our waiter helped us to select a very reasonably priced wine that perfectly complemented my companion's salmon en croute and my lamb chops. Restaurant Bouchard came highly recommended and deservedly so. Using Open Table was easy (our first time using the website). We were expecting a nice French restaurant and that's what you get. Great food, great service, great wine in a relaxed atmosphere. Did I say we had great food? Can't say enough great things about the experience. We will return, for sure. White linens with rouge velvet chairs give a wonderful French flair. Wait staff is very pleasant, professional in black tie, and make you feel welcome and special. The signature starter Asparagus and Lobster Puff Pastry was absolutely perfect, asparagus had a lovely crunch against the lightly layered pastry. Excellent restuffed Lobster. The split fee was well worth it. This delicious dish was a delight to look at also. The Grand Marnier soufflé ordered rising high above the dish was broken and drizzled in creamy sauce. I wish I could have tried everything on the menu. I went on line and typed in Top Restaurants in Ct. To my dismay most of them were at least 2 hours away from me so I typed in Rhode Island and The Bouchard came up. A day in Newport and dinner sounded perfect! I booked my reservation and waited in anticipation for the big day! The big day arrived and my mother and I enjoyed shopping for hours and then we finally went for dinner.... We were very pleased with the staff and service! They treated us like a pair of queens! The food was absolutely delicious and at the end they gave us complimentary flutes of champagne!!! We ate there on May3 and had one of the best meals we've had. As we've traveled a lot in the US and Europe, this is a real compliment. I had a wonderful swordfish entree and a delightful Caesar seafood salad. The Grand Marnier souffle was exquisite--don't miss it. (You need to place the order early as it takes a while to prepare.) The waiter recommended a white wine that went very well with the food. At $43 a bottle, it was also good value. My husband loved his food as well. Lovely service. (The wife serves as a welcoming host while the husband is the chef--great combination.) We were late for our reservation by 15 minutes and were reminded of that as soon as we checked in. Nonetheless, we were able to dine and celebrate my husband's birthday. We started with the beef carpaccio and the tuna tartar. Both were very good but were served just a little too chilly. We also ordered the duck and beef tenderloin and they were also very good. The souffle was devine so definitely leave room. Sarah made sure that each of the guests felt welcomed and appreciated and most importantly, special, capped off with champagne!

Noise level and space was perfect. Service was outstanding between 2 people. Always ensuring we had everything we needed. Tuna tartare was perfect. It was chilled to bring out the flavor. Wife ordered lobster bisque which was exceptional. Just enough spice and real lobster meat. I ordered the stuffed lobster which was great and their specialty. My wife ordered the pork tenderloin which was tender and the pastry wrapping was tasty and well cooked. The side vegetable medley with mashed and sweet potatoes were beautifully presented and complimented the dishes well. We ordered the soufflé at the beginning and it was delicious. The atmosphere is consistently intimate and inviting. The food is consistently incredible, of the highest quality! Every item on our plates cooked to perfection. They even honored a special request for dessert, it was a very special occasion. The first time we dined at Bouchard, Max was our waiter. Our service was as perfect as the food. This time we had a different person wait on us. He was quite good, very nice, and attentive throughout most of our meal, but fell off a bit toward the end, and it did make a difference. When you pay a premium (worth every penny), you expect the best. We are in complete agreement! Everything is perfectly done, the selection of items is rife with the flavor of France, and one could not find better service anywhere. The menu has lots of choices and our waiter was very helpful. I couldn't decide between two appetizers so he asked me to let him surprise me. Incredible. Just read the menu and make plans.We tried a restaurant the previous evening and another highly recommended place for lunch and they were mediocre, to say the least. I have not eaten at a French restaurant in more than 20 years. I always felt that you overpay and get little food in return. I ordered the veal chop, which was recommended by the waiter. My wife had the salmon, which by the way was a generous portion. However she did ask for it to be plain, no sauces, which may have not been the best way to order it. My veal chop came smothered in a sauce. Fine Dining at its best. The Food was outstanding and I recommend highly the Pate'. My Wife and I couldn't get enough. The pear flan was filled with clear and distinct flavors - a mixture of sweet and tart in a silken textured mixture. This is the best restaurant I've ever dined at in my life. Chef Bouchard is a master at creating superb French cuisine--he understands that sauces & herbs should not mask the flavor of the meat, poultry or fish. The portions are perfect. Hot dishes are served hot, cold are cold. The wine list is wonderful & waiters are knowledgeable in pairing wines to the food. Great selection of wine by the glass so you can enjoy a different wine with each course. The souffles here are heavenly--no really-it's as if you are having a bite of a fluffy cloud. Service is refined without being stuffy.
