Diner Reviews
  • "The Bottle Inn had been here as long as I can remember and it is a family favorite. Beautiful Italian food made with love."

  • "Food OK, not really any pasta dishes (sans meat), which seems odd. Waitress went out of her way to make us feel stupid for ordering an item which took minimal extra effort (then did it any way, begrudgingly). We were the only people in the place. Needs an update in decor, chef and especially management and wait staff."

  • "The food was excellent, and the service was outstanding. It was a great experience for our entire group. Everyone commented on how flavorful the food was, and wonderful our servers were. We loved the private area next to the wine cellar. We highly recommend this place for private intimate groups, or romantic dining for a couple!"

  • "My fiancé and I were looking for a great dinner to cap our trip. Guess what, the bottle inn out did our expectations! Great food, wonderful service would recommend it to anyone!"

  • "Excellent food. Friendly service made for a fun night"

  • "This classic Italian little place is located just off Hermosa beach and serves very well prepared food from an extensive menu and wine list; not your typical "red sauce" diner. The service was prompt, professional and friendly in an elegant sort of way. The prices of both the food and wine were very reasonable, especially considering the level of service and the location. There is a lot of nearby metered street parking, but it's a very busy area just near the beach, so that could sometimes be an issue."

  • " I am 100% Italian and hate going out for Italian food. We moved here to Manhattan Beach three years ago from NYC. In the city I could find an upscale Italian restaurant I liked. A trip to San Francisco's north end could satisfy my taste buds but here so far zip! We found the atmosphere at the Bottle Inn had that special neighborhood quality. People welcomed as old friends by our server Mary Lou was heartwarming. The artichoke appetizer was delicious, loved the lemon flavor. We both enjoyed our meals. Mine had a different twist to what I expected, but yummy. We did not try it sooner as the patio furniture did not transcend the actual ambiance."

  • "Nothing to rave about ... On last visit (30th anniversary) the waiter forgot our salads ... On this special occassion the birthday girl changed her entree order well before the salads were even brought and the manager came over not happy ... Gotta say the waitress was great ..."

  • "Great food, friendly and knowledgeable employees, and happy customers. It doesn't get much better!"

  • "Service again was not good. We just had to wait several times. We would have ordered desert, but by the time the server came to our table I couldn't wait to hand over my credit card. It appears the servers have too many tables, so the restaurant may need to hire another server during peak hours."

  • "We eat at the Bottle Inn very frequently and it is always fabulous. Great food. Very tasty. Big portions. Very reasonable prices. Wait staff are fantastic. "

  • "The food is good but a bit on the expensive side. I ordered the Venetian salad but the waiter brought a house salad. When I told him that wasn't what I ordered, he took out his order pad and showed me that he had written house salad. I told him that may be what he wrote but it was not what I ordered. He was obviously annoyed and did bring me the correct salad but at that point, I just wanted to leave."

  • "Went with a group of friends here, we were the only two that had been there before and the others were looking forward to trying it out. Although it had been over a decade or more since we have gone, we were excited about coming here. Server was nice and friendly. The dinners were good, not great. 2 people got the scallop and abalone filet, they were disappointed. Tasted artificial or fake, not fresh tasting. The Ono fish for the evening was not completely cooked and it tasted just okay according to the ones ordering it. Not sure about the risotto but the linguine with clams was good but not delicious. I expected a little more from here. In my mind I remember a better tasting menu back when. Best part was the garlic bread."

  • "I wish the food and experience was exceptional. The food smelled and tasted good just not better than many other similar establishments. Not worth the four and five stars given by Urban spoon and yelp."

  • "Went to the Bottle in for my best friend's birthday. Not only was the food amazing the ambiance was great and it was a nice walk from my apartment. Parking can be tricky in the beach cities but there seemed to be a few spots directly in front of the restaurant. The food was delicious, the portions were generous and the wine list was great. Would be a great place for date night too!"

  • "There were 4 of us dining and we had not seen each other for a long while. We got busy talking and the waiters waited patiently for us to be ready to order without interfering with our conversation. We spent a long time over dinner during a busy Friday evening, but the staff never rushed us at all. On top of that everyone raved about the food."

  • "This has been my family's bday go-to place. I remember it as an adult "fancy" restaurant only when I was a kid, but no more. My children (teen to adult) have enjoyed going here. You'll see families with kids of elementary school age, up to a nice couple on a date in the corner. The dishes are amazing, and we get 5 different plates and always love every dish; desserts too. Bonus: any pasta dish can be prepared with their gluten-free pasta and they also offer a GF lasagna, which my son raved about. Couple of GF dessert options as well. The Creme Brulee is exquisite. Our server and staff were spot on - enthusiastic and incredibly efficient. Look forward to our next visit! Thank you for a lovely evening!"

  • "Bottle Inn seemed to be an 'old school' neighborhood Italian restaurant. Good ambiance and very good service were not enough to overcome food that was just mediocre. I was expecting east coast Italian but there was just something missing. There were no layers of flavors. I only had a Caesar Salad which was okay once anchovies were added and chicken parm. I thought the chicken itself was juicy but under-seasoned. The breading and cheese voted "present" but made no further impact. And, the marinara was practically flavorless. All told, I could imagine getting this meal at a cafeteria, a good cafeteria but still. "

  • "Cute place right off the strand Jim has been coming here for years And keeps raving about this place We sat and ordered a glass of barbera and a chianti The barbera from Paso Robles Full of Noise the was very nice. Salad wise I had the Venetian salad and Jim had the casa salad Both quite good mine had a sundried tomato vinaigrette olives provolone tomatoes onions olive bread croutons really really good! Dinner I had the char broiled halibut with candied carrots creamed spinach and a side of past Agilo oilo. Wow was it good! Perfectly done very moist with a great charbroiled taste Jim had the bolenese which was also great better than mine (Still working the kinks out with the spices) what a great spot! We will be back "

  • "The food was good, especially the garlic bread but we felt that service was a little lacking. Our waitress was busy so whenever we wanted something we had to flag her down, even to tell her she had left the bottle of wine off our check. They definitely overcharge for the wine. It would be nice if they didn't charge so much for the corkage fee."

  • "I've lived in the neighborhood for years and finally tried it. The chicken polenta lasagna and chicken with vodka cream sauce were amazing! The staff and owner (Silvio) were fun and made you feel at home. Our server Mary Lou gave perfect suggestions to what we were craving. You could tell they knew many of the people sitting around me and my fiancé and made us feel welcome like that too. We so look forward to hopefully being one of those "regulars" soon as this will be a place I go as long as I'm in the South Bay...look forward to trying new dishes. It's also reasonably priced! Make sure you try the bread pudding too...so good!!!"

  • "We had out-of-town guests who are Italian, and love Italian food. They were in heaven. The menu is vast, which can be a little scary but all of our dishes were delicious. The building is a bit rustic, perhaps it could do with a decorating overhaul, but it felt homey and welcoming. The service was perfect; the wait staff was seasoned and attentive without being overbearing. All things considered, this is my favorite Italian restaurant, for the food, that I have been to."

  • "I took some clients to dinner all of us were surprised at both the place and the food they were great and the wine list/selection was incredible. We were seated in their wine cellar, this I recommend for a special occasion with your loved one."

  • "Bottle Inn looks small from the street, half a block from Hermosa beach, but is roomy inside. Italian wedding soup was good but had big pasta pieces instead of the traditional tiny pastina. Menu guarantees two meatballs in each cup, and also had chicken pieces. Not as good as Grandmas and not "traditional" by my Italian heritage, but pretty good tasting. Many pasta choices including lobster angel hair and chicken and three cheese ravioli. Both were excellent and there were several others I will try next time. Ample portions. Cappuccino was great. Service was slow. It was a Saturday night so perhaps understandable."

  • "The food is authentically fantastic. There is a more secluded private dining area in the "wine room". Great hidden area around the corner with room for about 4 or 5 people is a nice spot for a celebrity not wanting attention for the night."

  • "This was our first visit and the food and staff were wonderful. We arrived right as it was opening around 6:00 and by the time we left it was packed full so this is a popular place. It is small and has nice ambience... a little noisy but still very nice."

  • "We were sat in the cellar room which was romantic and quiet, perfect for our anniversary. They only serve beer and wine but the wine list is great. Service was great as well. Unfortunately we both ordered entrees with a lemony sauce, scampi and veal scaloppini. The sauce was extremely tart and disappointing. Sides of creamed spinach and rosemary potatoes were delicious as well as the garlic toast. We did not want to ruin the evening with sending back so we scraped off the sauce. Maybe the chef just added too much lemon that night?"

  • "Bottle Inn is one of my favorite go to places, whether date night or with the girlfriends. This time I was with my brother and surprisingly although we both grew up in the Beach Cities he had never heard of it! Shame on him. He doesn't live in the area any more but he loved the restaurant as much as I did and I think he'll back back there again. As will I."

  • "I had never eaten here although I live locally. The restaurant was much larger than it appeared from the outside and the food and ambiance were fantastic. Great choice!"

  • "I've been going to the Bottle Inn for more than 20 years, and it's as good as always. The food is very good, and they have an extensive wine list. Request a table in the wine cellar to escape the din of a busy restaurant. Since it is a wine cellar, it's cooler than the rest of the restaurant, so dress accordingly."

  • "I have been to the Bottle Inn numerous times before and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Unfortunately this time was different. We sat in a room with some very noisy people from a band and a family with young child at another table. The adults were far more unruly than the children. We could not really enjoy the conversation at our table. The waiter had to be reminded about a glass of Proseco that we ordered. The person who placed the order, immediately ordered a second glass because he was afraid he would have to wait a very long time to get a second glass if he waited until he finished his first glass.. We asked for more bread and never got it. We felt like we were generally forgotten. They didn't check on us to see how we were doing..."

  • "There was six of us in our group; four of us thought that the entrees were excellent and the other two thought their entrees were very good. We also shared three desserts, and while they were ok, we all agreed that we should have skipped dessert. Maybe time for the kitchen to revamp their dessert menu. Otherwise, a good night out at the bottle inn!"
