Diner Reviews
  • "Food was great but the service was awful. Waited 30 mins after our appetizers for our entree and not one person came over to ask if We needed anything. Waiter acknowledged the wait and ask the manager to come over and talk to us, which he did, but never apologized. Spent $300 that night and will never go back. Waste of money."

  • "The doors were open as it was finally getting warm enough in the city. There's always something nice about fresh air when you go out to a nice dinner with friends. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and had a great personality. Excellent food, everything we had was very good. Definitely one of our top choices in the South End from now on!"

  • "We had a reason to celebrate, so we did in style and luxury at Boston Chops. The food was amazing. The Bone-in Filet was like velvet that melted on your tongue. The Chimichurri sauce was like creamy herbed butter and really enhanced the flavor of the beef without over powering it. The popovers and creme brûlée were easily the best I've ever eaten. Our waitress, Leah, was attentive, charming and knew all of the dishes and wine. When pressed for opinions, she had nothing bad to say about anything and emphasized her favorites and why they were her favorites. Nothing short of a rock star. We impressed ourselves by racking up a $300 bill with dinner for 2. NO REGRETS. We will be back."

  • "Appetizers were great. Decent bar scene. Good sides. But the miss was on the steaks. A little undercooked on my steak and the other steak was half rare/medium rare while the other half was rare/raw (almost blue). Since I had a skirt steak, I understand that can happen. My friend had a hanger steak which is thicker and a better cooked. Since my friend started on the slightly more cooked side, it was a real problem until he was almost done. Too late at that point to send it back."

  • "Dined here before for dinner, but this was our first Brunch. Were seated promptly. The food was really good. Got to sample everything our table ordered. The fried chicken was AMAZING. Really enjoyed the brisket, shank and tongue hash (very filling...couldn't finish it). The Caesar salad is too beautiful to eat. Huevos Rancheros and Kale Omelet were also good. The best part though is the sticky buns they bring out before your meal. Don't know how many calories each tiny one is, but its definitely worth it! Now that the weather is good, they even have outdoor seating."

  • "We had ribeye &'filet. Both to die for. Only problem we had is that the tables are so close together it's not very private. We had to move the table to get in & out of our seats."

  • "This is the new iteration of the South End bank that has been home to Banc & Ginger Park. Hope they have a better result. Appetizers include raw bar, delicious cured tongue, rich onion soup. .Steaks are varied cuts--big prime cuts are pricey & al la carte---$59 for 18 oz rib on bone…Steak Frites combos are smaller & more reasonable with fries & greens. Choices are filet, rib eye, skirt, hanger, sirloin strip. Chicken, pork chop looked good. Steaks very well seasoned, tender & tasty. Nice wine choices & beer only bottled though a very large busy bar on other side .High ceilings & nicely appointed though noisy. Attentive service bit slow.. Crusty type flavorful chocolate cake easy to share…Overall a better choice than Grill 23."

  • "Out with a party of three and we all had very good wait service and good meals, skipped the high end meats w/ala carte servings for smaller dinners with sides included. Let others pay for $59 cuts of meat. Had trouble finding valet, which is shared with a nearby restaurant and front desk was not helpful, but waiter was, kudos to him! Still a terrific restaurant."

  • "Their steaks are consistently phenomenal. For my second experience I was lounged by three different friends who had three different entrees. All were excellent. The cod was every bit as good as the streak as was the chicken. The onion soup was very good. The salads continued to be interesting (in a good way). The deserts were tasty and satisfying."

  • "Had brunch at the bar on Saturday and it was very quiet - very different than our other visits on Sundays or at night. food was good although on order was not correct (correct on the bill but not what got delivered) - but tasted good so no reason to complain. Bartender was very attentive."

  • "Our ribeye was quite bland. For $40, I make a better one on the grill as does Morton's and Ruth Chris."

  • "The only thing I have to mention is that as yummy as the frites were, the first round of them was soooo salty that I felt my pressure skyrocket. They were wonderful and the next time they came by the table that batch was fine, but the first batch was way too salty. Other than that, it was a wonderful experience...."

  • "I love Dbar for its food, atmosphere and the very friendly waitstaff that help me enjoy my dining experience. Boston Chops is no Dbar. Our waitstaff really looked like they didn't want to serve us. No smile, no friendliness at all. I love steak and found the restaurant week specials lacking some of the complexity I have expected from Dbar. Steak and fries with an appetizer and desert. The steak was tender and juicy and flavorful so the food was good. Service is where there was a disconnect for this visit. Pleased we only had a 20 min wait after we arrived 5 min before our 8:45 pm reservation."

  • "Although we made reservation, we still have to wait a little upon arrival. We understand it's probably due to the full booking, so it's alright. Good is pretty good, especially if your come on"dine out" week. Because we have two kids, the waiters were very patient with us when we order. They kept coming back and refill our water and check on us while we were eating. I will give 5 stars for service!!!"

  • "Had a nice Rest Week dinner there, makes me curious to go at another time. Was surprised they only offered steak as options on the RW menu. Steak was fine but the fries were WAY oversalted. Enjoyed the oxtail corquettes and the sticky toffee pudding was excellent. Friend enjoyed his skirt steak and oysters. And I saw someone ordered the fried chicken which I'd read about, it looked amazing. Space is cool, good cocktails, nice service."

  • "I had a lovely birthday dinner at Boston Chops. A lot of times, I feel like I get poor service due to my age (not to mention my bday is on the same week as restaurant week). Everyone at Boston Chops was super sweet and lovely. Our server -- Chris was nice with great recommendations and very accommodating. When we finished our appetizers, our entrees came right out. Gotta love great service. High recommended: sticky toffee pudding. :)"

  • "This restaurant is in contention for the best steak house in Boston. The menu is more diverse than most and virtually everything on it was exceptional. The portions are even human sized, not out of control. Service was very good and atmosphere was good. Popover was rich tender, my veal chop was cooked exactly as I desired and it was extremely tender. I will absolutely return to this restaurant."

  • "I went to Boston Chops during restaurant week for dinner. This was the best restaurant week experience I have had thus far, the food was absolutely delicious and the portions was perfect, not too small and I left feeling full and satisfied. I wait staff was attentive and always checking to see if there was anything else needed at our table. I would recommend Boston Chops to everyone, especially for a restaurant week outing!"

  • "Have been to and enjoyed the restaurant many times in the past. Last Saturday was a busy night so perhaps the kitchen was swamped. We were two having dinner at the bar, one looking forward to the onion soup gratiin. Apps came out, just a pinch if cheese in the crock and minimal onions so got sent back. It then took over 20 minutes to be replaced and other app was done. Changed the feel of the night so we left and had dinner elsewhere. We'll go back but if it's busy, I'd think twice about it and probably chose another spot..."

  • "Due to the fairly unique way they prepare steaks, every steak is perfect. The service was delightful. The ambience is "steakhouse-lite." I went with guys who've enjoyed steaks at Boston's best steak places. All agreed that these steaks were the best, most uniform/ consistent they'd enjoyed."

  • "For Restaurant Week, I give this a 5 star! The oysters were enormous and delicious, the steak was well flavored and the fries were all you can eat. The desserts were delicious and generous. A good restaurant week is hard to find, but I would definitely go back! The only reason I knocked a star off is because I don't think I'd go if it wasn't Restaurant Week. We spent $200 (including cocktails/wine) for 2 with the Restaurant Week Deal, so I can't imagine what it would be like at full price. I like to have a 3-course meal at a steakhouse because it gives you the opportunity to have something "interesting" first and then an awesome steak, but for the price and the portion size on the steak I think I'd have to pass. Do get the Fries!"

  • "My sister and I took my parents to here for Dine Out Boston. They had the local oysters and I had the oxtail croquettes. My father enjoyed the oysters very much. They were very fresh and taste great. The 8oz NY strip was very tender. Some are cooked just right but one of them is a little undercooked. My hanger steak tastes great. The creme brulee tastes very good. Overall, our experience are great. Highly recommend this restaurant to other people!!"

  • "Delicious and very well cooked steaks. Super tender and filling as well. Kind of stuffy ambiance inside if you aren't used to a yuppy dining spot. Definitely not kid friendly. This is a date night dining spot. Very courteous and clean. Love the location because it's easy to get to. It's right in front of the cathedral church. Neighborhood is up and coming."

  • "We went for Restaurant Week and had an amazing meal. The Cesear salad was beautifully presented and tasty. Steak frites was as good as it gets. And the icing on the cake is the staff. They were all really helpful, attentive and friendly, without being imposing. We ate at a table, but next time we'll try the bar, which looks really inviting."

  • "The good: space is great, medieval manor meets old boys club. Like the bar, although corners can be forgotten by bartenders. Drinks are really good. Had both the old town and the manhattan, well crafted. Nice salads, good oysters. The meh: steaks weren't as high quality as I'd like for a steakhouse, frites were generic, once it became obvious we weren't dropping serious cash on a bottle of wine or more cocktails on a weeknight, the service level dropped off substantially. On that, add some more mid priced bottles. As part of an empire, I feel they expanded too fast with a bit too much ego and bravado. Small changes can make a big difference here, buy better steaks, make the fries in house, and make the wine selection more tangible."

  • "Good place for a steak and cocktails. The popovers add a very special touch not seen a lot anymore. Also the fries with the steak frites are topnotch. Our server John was very efficient and got us to the theater with time to spare."

  • "Expensive--for special occasions or expense accounts. Prime Sirloin strip properly cooked to medium rare. French fries tepid. Onion rings substantial and tasty aioli dip. Enjoyed spicy broccoli too. Wine markup crazy, so purchase by the glass. Hazelnut tort dessert was tasty, as was coffee. Enjoyed Leslie as server. Very capable, charming & efficient. Table was ready @ reservation time. Nice atmosphere, if a bit loud. Not quite up to Abe & Louis or Grill 23, but better than any of the chains in Boston."

  • "We brought my brother here for his birthday; he was visiting and no one in the party had tried the restaurant before. It was fun with a good server and really delicious food. The steaks were done to everyone's satisfaction and a vegetarian in the group was happy with the non-meat choice. The wine was a great match to all the food choices as well. The only minus was the table was not ready for a 9:15 PM reservation and we were not seated for quite some time. The cocktails at the bar kept us entertained though."

  • "My wife & I went for a Sunday night dinner, traveling in from Metro West via T Green/Red/Silver (very convenient). The establishment is chic, sleek, and beautiful. Even the china and silverware fits the overall feel. The service all night long was helpful, friendly, and non-rushed. And the food and drink (a Guiness draught and a cabernet) was outstanding. We had oysters and an utterly unique Caesar salad, then both had the strip (both cooked perfectly: blue for me and medium rare for her) accompanied by some of the best fries we had ever tasted, finishing the evening with a scrumptious creme brûlée and astounding sticky toffee pudding. We will definitely go back."

  • "We loved it here. The food was great and our bus-woman was the best. I wish I had tipped her alone. No one can say anything bad about all you can eat fries. The only con - parking around the area is difficult (like all south end places)."

  • "Boston Chops was recommended to my by two different friends and they were so right. Of course there are good steaks here, but the reason we will come back is for all the other great things. To start - their cocktails are terrific -They have a great traditional appetizer list but also some " different " cuts - we tried the beef heart which was so tender and marinated in herbs and the beef cheeks which were shredded and served Mexican style. Both were outstanding. Then with our steaks -so many great side options! -we chose the Fingerlings roasted in duck fat - which were incredible - and their beer battered onion rings which are the lightest crunchiest rings I have ever had! Aside from the food - service was 5 star. Can't wait to go back!"
