A word from Borgne
"When people ask where in New Orleans to go for great local seafood,
I want the answer to be Borgne." - Brian Landry, Executive Chef

Chefs John Besh and Brian Landry grew up fishing on Lake Borgne, the epicenter of coastal cuisine in Louisiana.
Their shared passion for Louisiana seafood brought them together to create Borgne, a celebration of coastal Louisiana with a touch of Isleño influence. Borgne will be a gathering place for locals and visitors alike, a CBD lunch spot, a quick bite before the game and a casual setting for a delicious dinner with friends.

Took a party of 8 colleagues to Borgne at 7:30 on Wednesday, made the reservation through Open Table. Our group was seated as soon as we arrived. The restaurant is nicely decorated and pretty open, a really nice look to the bar and dining room. The server was prompt, knowledgable and very friendly throughout our visit. The food was fantastic. Apps were great, Turkey necks, duck poppers, oysters and empanadas, all were very good. Entree's were all fish dishes or soft shell crabs, every entree was solid. Desserts were outstanding as well. I've been to all of Chef Besh's restaurants and this one is a great addition to his brand. I highly recommend.

Having had several meals here, there are usually one or two items that I order which are disappointing. Today, the oysters on the half shell were miserably small and not shucked correctly, leaving much of the oysters attached to the shell. For the price, I'd expect the oysters to be at least medium sized and shucked correctly. A few were no bigger than a thumbnail, and that was before finding them still glued to the shells, leaving only a sliver of oyster on the fork. I ordered a salad, which was very flavorful and delicious, and a side of kale. The kale was swimming in way too much butter. I expect more, but many Besh restaurants have the same hit-or-miss. Service, however, is always above average- very friendly and attentive.

I have been to several of John Besh's restaurants and have never been disappointed. Borne's menu is small but the quality of the food is just amazing. From appetizers (duck poppers, crab claw fingers, and, of course, the oysters) to entrees (drum fish, soft shell crab, blackened wahoo) to desserts (chocolate nutella puddin'), every thing was exceptional. This was local seafood at it's finest. I actually went back 2 days after my first visit to have dinner again.

When we arrived, the hostess said they did not have our reservation, but luckily they weren't full and we were seated right away. The food and service from the wait staff at Borgne is excellent. We had the most amazing Hazelnut "pudding" that was more like half-pudding/half-mousse. I read in some reviews that the restaurant seemed like a cafeteria. I would not agree with that except for the plastic chairs. That was really surprising at a restaurant of this caliber. I know it's a casual vibe, but I would not expect plastic chairs at a John Besh restaurant. I found the rest of the decor to be modern and appealing. Overall, a very nice experience.

It was too loud and the food was not the high quality fare that I would expect from a John Besh restaurant. The ceviche came with saltines. The turkey necks tasted like they were cooked in soy sauce. The portion of soft shell crab was small, under seasoned and had nothing to compliment it. It should be an appetizer and not an entrée. Despite advertising a happy hour special, I had to remind the server to compute our discount.

The space has the feel and look of a cafeteria. The food is barely average, definitely overpriced. Service was friendly and attentive, but that's really the only positive thing I can say about the place. With so many good options in the area, it's a shame to waste one meal here.

Wanted to eat at a John Besh restaurant while in town & are glad we chose this one! Had a later reservation which was perfect; still busy without being packed. Our waitress, Sybill, was the best! She was very friendly, knowledgeable and just very welcoming. We really enjoyed talking with her and she gave great recommendations for our food! The cocktail and beer lists were great! An extensive beer list for my beer "snob" husband. Had the broiled oysters and duck poppers to start--highly recommend both!I had the black drum entree and my husband had the blackened wahoo. Both were extremely well cooked! So glad for the descriptions/recommendations from our waitress. And you can't go wrong with the puddin' or cobbler for dessert.

We were staying at the Hyatt Regency and decided to try out the restaurant there one night. It was not very busy, and the server gave us first -rate attention. And the FOOD! We started with warm crusty bread with softened butter. Then we shared the baked oysters which were delicious. For my meal, I had a special appetizer as my meal which was a local fish prepared shashimi style and it was excellent. My wife had the soft shell crab, which came with 2 and was plenty for both of us. The food was some of the best I've ever had, and I have dined all over the world.

The food was excellent. It lived up to everything that my wife and I were expecting. The wait staff was extremely helpful and professional. I cannot say enough about the service. The problem we had was that we felt we were dining in a cafeteria. I understand that there are different types of decor, but this place is just too sparse and institutional. I would not have been surprised to see food brought out on plastic trays.

My wife and I went to Borgne on August 26, 2014. The place looked like a cafeteria and was just as noisy. We had to sit on PLASTIC CHAIRS. Our server was pleasant. The food was terrible. OVER FRIED EVERYTHING. We felt very rushed and we paid a lot of money to be this disappointed. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Borgne is a top flight place to dine. My wife and another couple decided to give it a try this past Sunday and we were absoutely pleased. All of our entrees were excellent. Fish in a bag is a do over. The black drum was off the hook. But I think what stole the show was half price tapas which included the best rendition of turkey necks I have ever tasted. Yes that's right, turkey necks. I cannot leave out our waiter , Joseph, aka "the voice". He was fun and professional. A good time was had by all.

I typically really like John Besh restaurants but I personally didn't care for this one. It is a very nice looking restaurant. We had a great server, knowledgeable of the menu, very friendly and attentive. But for me, the restaurant was too loud and smelled like fish right when we walked in. The menu was a bit too small. One chicken dish, which is fried. One beef dish, which I had and really sorry to say I didn't care for (didn't like the marinade). The Caesar Salad was loaded with fresh anchovies which wasn't clearly stated on the menu. While I love Caesar dressing and know that it is made with anchovies, I do not like them sliced and diced fresh through out the salad. I would recommend Borgne to seafood lovers only.

I enjoyed this restaurant and there is a lot to recommend. I was visiting N.O. so I was unfamiliar with the location. It is in the Hyatt Regency which was beautiful but I had the feeling of hotel food. Not the case. The best dish for me was the salt and pepper calamari. Different take and was delicious. The baked oysters were also a hit at our table. Interestingly enough, I thought the best main dish at our table was the hanger steak. The steak was tender, the sauce delicious and the side croquettes were outstanding. The fish in a bag was good also. Desserts were fabulous....midnight chocolate cake to die for and the key lime pie was a different twist with rum ice cream. Truly outstanding way to end the meal.

We are big fans of Chef John Besh...but we were still blown away by the food at Borgne! We shared the unique Caesar salad which was wonderful. The octopus appetizer and oyster spaghetti entree were both unique and delicious. The black drum was out of this world....everything was perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. The only negative was the coffee..very weak & watery...upon discussing this with our server Nora she promptly removed the coffee charge from our bill. Nora also was a part of our pleasurable experience! A must try restaurant if you are a foodie!

Visited for the first time for lunch on my birthday. Service was great, staff is very friendly and accommodating. The Duck and Andouille Gumbo is superb, one of the best gumbos in town. The catfish poboy was also excellent, tender small filet bits of wild catfish friend just right with a great sauce and wonderful bread. I was treated to the key lime pie lunchbox pie which consists of a round puck shaped bit of key lime pie filling nicely chilled, crumbled ginger snap on the side, a wonderful cream sauce and topped with black rum ice cream. That was a fantastic desert.

Second time to Borgne, and as with all John Besh restaurants, the food is truly remarkable. This one has a fantastic bar, the "longest one in the city of New Orleans". The happy hour $1 menu is great and a lot of fun. The only drawback at Borgne is that with all the hard surface finishes and the wide open dining room/bar, it is impossible to hear people at your own table. It drives me nuts when I literally can not hear my wife who is sitting right next to me, and this happens at Borgne if they are full. Oh, they are always full.

Although the food was excellent, we were disappointed in the overall service. Our waitress was clearly overwhelmed with the number of tables although it did not appear to be very busy. The bar was backed up. Our order wasn't taken for quite awhile. Our bread came towards the end of the meal. I don't think it was bad service, just understaffed. I've been a number of times and this is the first time this has ever happened. It will not prevent me from going again.
