A word from Borgne
"When people ask where in New Orleans to go for great local seafood,
I want the answer to be Borgne." - Brian Landry, Executive Chef

Chefs John Besh and Brian Landry grew up fishing on Lake Borgne, the epicenter of coastal cuisine in Louisiana.
Their shared passion for Louisiana seafood brought them together to create Borgne, a celebration of coastal Louisiana with a touch of Isleño influence. Borgne will be a gathering place for locals and visitors alike, a CBD lunch spot, a quick bite before the game and a casual setting for a delicious dinner with friends.

  • "Good meal overall. Unfortunate location, not quite the attention to detail as when I was last there. But fine fresh flounder. They have lost the edge of excellence they hsf when first vopened."

  • "Booked borgne at the last minute for Easter brunch and the reviews were not bad but I wouldn't go back to borgne. My fish dish was tasty but cold and it was the special. My husband didn't care for the bread of his shrimp poboy. The service was slow and by the time we left I was not having much fun. Maybe if the service would have been better I wouldn't have left w such a negative impression. On a positive note, the decor was attractive and the menus quaint as they were on a small clipboard. "

  • "The god was good, but not great. The decor was from a startup cafe."

  • "The appetizers were great including the salads. My husband's fish was superb. I should have known better than to order a steak at a seafood restaurant. The meat itself was very tender and cooked perfectly medium rare. However, it lacked much flavor and was on a sauce that tasted reminiscent of BBQ sauce so I was a little disappointed. Also, the greens were undercooked and didn't seem to have any spice added to them. We each had a glass of wine with dinner and they were excellent."

  • "Went twice while in New Orleans for a week-long visit. The first trip was just for dessert which was delicious. We ordered the hazelnut pudding which was very rich and the key-lime dessert which was quite tart. The 2nd time we went we ordered dinner. My date got the shrimp which was a bit too spicy for him. We wished that we had known about that beforehand. I got the stuffed flounder which was pretty heavy for a seafood dish, but really tasty."

  • "While I enjoy the food at Borgne I do wish the menu had more offerings. That being said, the food we ate was great. I had a cocktail (Canary Island Ice Pick) and it was lemony and refreshing. We had 2 appetizers (Seared Tuna - small portion but big flavor) and the Salt & Pepper Calamari (it was ok - I've had better). They do serve you a loaf of bread while you wait for your food and it was wonderful. We did not order entrees instead opting to go straight to dessert. We shared the Hazelnut Chocolate Pudding and wow it did not disappoint!"

  • "After going to Restaurant August the night before, Borgne was more the John Besh property we were expecting. The decor was clever and perfect for the space, the music just loud enough, the lighting at the right level. They appetizers were stellar and if I had known the smoked pork empenadas were so substantial I would have never have ordered the oyster spaghetti. The oysters were perfectly cooked, the sauce was creamy and flavorful and even though I couldn't finish the substantial serving in one sitting, I would order it again and again. The side of brussell sprouts we got were also amazing, with the raisins and hazelnuts truly making it 'veggie candy'. I will absolutely come back!"

  • "Borgne has the most convenient location if you're going to a show at Smoothie King/Dome. An easy walk with fast efficient service. Drinks are strong, happy hour prices are great. Beer selection is good and not limited. The main issue is the Bornge sets itself up to be a casual dining place but food is all over thought and overly expensive. The mushroom soup comes with a blob of goat cheese in the bottom - shouldn't that be noted on the menu? Duck gumbo was flavorful but ingredients ranged from chewy to crunchy - not pleasing. We actually didn't order entrees because the menu was so off-putting - nothing sounded normal. Finally one girl asked for fries and our server brought them (not on the menu) - excellent! More like this please!"

  • "Though the location may throw one off, in a hotel, the place is really quite good. The decor is cool, columns of oyster shells, sleek 4-tops and long tables to accommodate larger groups, local art... The bar looked cool and the drinks that come from it are excellent. I had the festival lemonade and it was refreshing..... good beer selections too. We tried the duck poppers appetizer, and though it was not something we would normally order, they were tasty -- I mean who doesn't like bacon?!! My husband gave a thumbs up for the Louisiana Shrimp and I enjoyed the ( fresh ) fish in a bag. good bread accompanies your meal too. We loved our server, she took great care of us and everything was very good!!"

  • "Wonderful place for seafood. Started off with a couple dozen oysters on the half shell - fresh firm and flavorful. In the south so had to try the pimento cheese croquets - amazing with the celery marmalade. For the entrees I had the fish in the bag - fresh caught speckled trout - excellent flavors - the fennel really came through. My lunch partner had the black drum with the pecans and jumbo lump crab meat and was that ever succulent and buttery. Not many there for a Saturday Lunch perhaps because it is in the Hyatt Regency hotel..... Waitstaff was stellar - knowledgeable very personable. People should get to this restaurant! Will come here again the next time in NOLA."

  • "The decor of this restaurant needs an overhaul. When we entered Borgne It felt like a cafeteria. The lighting was bright the tables and chairs are very small in scale for the rooms high ceilings and open floor plan. We over looked the decor and enjoyed the meal, the food was very good."

  • "We love John Besh and his restaurants HOWEVER.... Borgne left us wanting. They were definitely keen on turning our table as fast as possible. The server bugged us constantly for our order once we sat down as if we already knew the menu upon arriving. Our food came out in no less than 5 minutes which is great if you need a quick bite but for a place that is at least $100 for two, you want to "savor the moment." The table behind us was in and out in 45 minutes. Food: The broiled oysters were incredible. My wife had the oyster spaghetti and it was equally good - very light and airy flavor which was a cool experience. I had the black drum which lacked dimensionality - we added some sauce from spaghetti making the dish awesome."

  • "This was my third or fourth visit to Borgne and probably my favorite food wise. I feel they have made small but noticable improvements to the menu. Service was friendly, prompt and thorough. I would highly recommend!"

  • "We left the Monteleone in a cab to the restaurant. Normal behavior for us while in New Orleans, but the cab driver was insane! I have never seen the city a such a high speed. But that being said, the restaurant was excellent! The server was great and very friendly but not intrusive. I can not say enough good things about it."

  • "Go to this restaurant for a modern dining experience featuring upscale gulf coast-inspired seafood dishes. By the way, the brussels sprouts are awesome!"

  • "The oysters on the half shell & appetizers are the best thing there. The beer list is extensive & goes well with most dishes."

  • "We had the Speckled Trout in a parchment bag and may be the best fish the I have evr had in my life. Fantastic. The service was spot on and the appitizers were great."

  • "Borgne serves very traditional New Orleans seafood dishes, done to perfection. The chocolate hazelnut pudding desert is outstanding."

  • "Food was fantastic. On my recent vacation we had to return before we left NOLA. The duck poppers were my fave. We also ordered the grilled octopus. It was so tender. On our second outing, service was just ok. Our server disappeared after appies. Another server started to serve us. Felt odd because usually if there is a shift change, they let the table know. Aside from that, we had a couple of great dinners. John Besh doesn't disappoint."

  • "I would not say it was great, the overall experience was alright. Our server was knowledgable about menu and it appeared he attempted to provide good service but it came across as rushed and stressful. I've dined at two other John Besh restaurants and Borgne is my least favorite. However, I am willing to give it another try."

  • "I cannot say enough good things about our first Borgne experience. We started with the duck poppers and they were out of this world!! Every appetizer and entrée we ordered from that point outshined the one before it. Our server, Michael, was so fun and really added to our dining experience. His suggestions for appetizers and desserts were SPOT ON! We had a wonderful time and can't wait to go back. My recommendations are: duck poppers, pork empanadas, broiled oysters, black drum a la plancha, and the chocolate hazelnut "puddin"."

  • "The food was delicious but our waiter was terrible. He was much more attentive to other tables, we waited so long for the check it put a damper on the experience. We were there for two hours with a party of three. Great food but because of the service I probably wouldn't recommend."

  • "Brought my gf and a friend of hers here for her birthday dinner on Thursday night. Everything from their hot green tea to the garlic shrimp was just perfect. I had the seafood stuffed flounder which was really good also. My only "complaint" is that id rather the flounder be broiled or baked and not fried as this one was. We will definitely be returning to sample the rest of the menu!"

  • "This would have been a stellar review except for the hair found in my entree. We were on our way to a basketball game and didn't have time to order a new dish. Stuff like this happens, but it left me hungry."
    Dined on 3/26/2014
  • "Fish dish (pecan encrusted white fish) was great; shrimp dish adequate; fried oysters fine; tables like a business or cafeteria lunch room; service hasty and impersonal; location out of the way unless living in the hotel; reservation service fine. Expensive for what was provided."

  • "We were in town for the NBA game at the arena near by. Have eaten at Besh restaurants before and been pleased. It was a bit more casual than I thought. Linoleum floors , bright lights, and plastic tables and chairs made it seem more like a hospital cafeteria. The menus were small clipboards with old paper attached. The soup and salad that I was interested in from the online menu were not available. Portions were generous but the food was not really all that great. I expected more"

  • "Had not been to this Besh restaurant before and can't wait to go back. The food was really terrific - the gumbo was great, the black drum was to die for, and the Brussels sprouts were among the best I've had. For a native now living in New Jersey, I savored every bite. The only thing that would have made the experience better would have been a more engaging server."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "Borgne doesn't disappoint. The raw oysters were typical, fresh and clean. Other appetizers were supreme, including the Octopus. All the fish entrees are cooked beautifully, with freshest ingredients."

  • "A well managed modern Louisiana restaurant. Great food, cocktails and service. Get the Duck Poppers! Always a friendly welcoming staff from the managers to the waitstaff and bartenders! Ask for Katina as your server and see Max at the bar!"

  • "What a gem of New Orleans cuisine! I had the Duck Jalopena Poppers and the Sunflower Sesame Salad. From presentation to taste, it was delicious. The hot crusty bread topped it off. The wait staff worked together seamlessly to make sure I never needed anything. Will definitely be back."

  • "the charbroiled oysters, the drum fish, and a side of potato croquettes were some great eatin. Staff were chill and right on."

  • "I truly enjoy coming to Borgne because everytime I do, I discover a new dish with full, fresh flavors and wonderful presentations. The last time we went, we made a fantastic meal of just appetizers, sides, and salads- you will not be disappointed! Talk about versatility..."

  • "We were very disappointed to find this was a hotel restaurant. The atmosphere was horrible. The noise level was ridiculous. Horrible table in the bar section, just an awful experience. The food was OK, but given all the other negatives you need to avoid this place. Only acceptable of staying at the hotel and you don't want to leave the premises."
    Dined on 3/16/2014
  • "Dining room was a bit noisy, but the decor, service and food were so good we will definetly be back again. Would recommend you start with the seared tuna and then try the seafood stuffed flounder."

  • "We love Borgne. We think it has the best food out of all the Besh restaurants. The drum a la plancha, fish in a bag, and charbroiled oysters are all amazing. They also serve beer in these really awesome goblets. The restaurant is huge and great for a big group."
