A word from Borgne
"When people ask where in New Orleans to go for great local seafood,
I want the answer to be Borgne." - Brian Landry, Executive Chef

Chefs John Besh and Brian Landry grew up fishing on Lake Borgne, the epicenter of coastal cuisine in Louisiana.
Their shared passion for Louisiana seafood brought them together to create Borgne, a celebration of coastal Louisiana with a touch of Isleño influence. Borgne will be a gathering place for locals and visitors alike, a CBD lunch spot, a quick bite before the game and a casual setting for a delicious dinner with friends.

Loved the food. The blackened swordfish was the best fish my husband says he has ever had. Great mixologist on staff. Attentive server. No ambience to speak of. Chairs and tables reminded us of a high school cafeteria. Husband's salad had a half-alive grasshopper in it that was not listed as an official ingredient. Management was apologetic and brought out a new salad, but nothing else...not even a free dessert. Ok, so it probably means the salad greens were very fresh, but I'm glad it wasn't dragging itself across my plate!

We were staying at the Hyatt and while we usually avoid the "hotel restaurant", the John Besh name drew us in. I started with the duck poppers, which were tasty (note that the portion size does not lend itself to sharing). For entrees, my wife enjoyed the fish (grouper in this case) in a bag and I had a delicious dish of drum with brown butter sauce and pecans. The pecans were an unexpected delight, and the seasoning was perfect. For dessert, we shared the "deconstructed key lime pie", which was topped with bourbon ice cream. I found the flavors were good separately, but I am not sure that the ice cream works with the key lime. Service was great. Atmosphere was a bit noisy, and the furniture (plastic chairs) was not terribly comfortable.

Food was excellent. I had black drum with pecans and crab meat; my wife had a shrimp dish. We shared the duck poppers. THESE ARE A MUST. Grilled romaine salad was also excellent. After eating heavy or fried food in New Orleans for several days, this was a great way to end our trip. Topped off with a shared chocolate hazelnut pudding. This was our second visit to a John Besh restaurant. Both different, but the quality of the meal was the same. The only issue we had was that the main dishes came out of the kitchen when we barely touched the salads and we had to send them back. I don't know if we were being rushed or if it was poor coordination in the kitchen. Our table was not being turned over, so I suspect the latter.

The ambience is very loud and the tables and chairs give the appearance of a diner rather than a good restaurant. The openness to the bar is not an attractive design and exacerbates the noise level. The wait staff were excellent - charming, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful The duck poppers were very good, the red drum fish excellent and perfectly cooked, the pork empanadas very good. Loved the menu and the options.

John Besh is an artist when it comes to food preparation, quality and overall scrumptious dining. One leaves satisfied and wanting to return again and again. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. This is our third time at Borgne and as locals we will continue to return. The only unfortunate thing is that you cannot hear your partner across the table. The noise level is deafening. So, it is not for a romantic evening.

John Besh does not disappoint with this restaurant. Although it is located in a hotel, the food is excellent and cooked to perfection. The basil shrimp and fried green tomato appetizer is not to be passed on. The fish in a bag entree is definitely a must. The fish was mahi mahi and the portion was very generous. The charred corn and brussel sprout sides complemented the entree. The service is excellent, from the waitress to the servers to the bartender. Make it a point to eat here. You will not be disappointed.

Concept of "lakeside Louisiana food" did not really go with the decor of the place which is very modern. Food was OK at best. Gumbo ordinary. Fish was fresh. Overpriced for what you get. The Luke restaurant was fantastic so it seems that Mr. Besh needs to get this place to that level.

    The atmosphere is rather commercial and sleek and cold like but the food was top notch. Great wine selections also; We had the drum fish with pecan and crabmeat topping, it was amazing; we also enjoyed the wedge salad with fried oysters; we thoroughly enjoyed the grilled oysters on the half shell as our appetizer and also the shrimp and eggplant bisque; All very delicious; Our service was NOT excellent just fair;

We enjoyed a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon at half price and several delectable appetizers for $5 each during happy hour– such as catfish sliders and bombas (spicy potatoes Brava and with a touch of beef). Intrigued, went on to sample some others, including a delicious smoked tuna and fried green tomatoes served with shrimp and remoulade. Having worked her way through the appetizer list, we were too full to sample the main dishes but finished up instead with a rich chocolate cake. I would describe the atmosphere as tasteful minimalist with some unusual artistic flourishes, such as columns fashion from oyster shells. The dining room is large and open, not at all intimate, but attractive in its own way. Would definitely go back.

We had brunch at Borgne before the last Saints home game. The place was completely packed with festive game goers and some of the Stadium characters. Our waiter was Joe F. We've had him before and I think he is great. He makes the entire experience work efficiently and pleasantly. The menu is a lunch menu, rather than a brunch menu, but the food is good.

We decided to try out Borgne's Game Day menu. I thought surely if they were taking reservations for 9:45 in the morning that a brunch menu would be offered. Instead, they brought us the regular menu. That being said, we do enjoy eating at Borgne for dinner but fish, calamari, oysters, etc at 9:45 in the morning was not appealing. I might mention that when I confirmed the reservation, I specifically asked if there were brunch items on the menu. After asking our waiter about it, he told us that they offered a special which was chicken and waffles. Ok well so be it. 8 of of got chicken and waffles. They did accommodate with adding two fried eggs. It was excellent but I do think if they offered a brunch, it would be awesome.

I want to give Borgne another chance. The food is excellent. I love the fish in a bag, catch of the day cooked with spices, veggies, and "crab fat" in a parchment paper bag. I loved the crab fingers and the gumbo brought back ur-memories of contentment. The service, on the other hand, was chaotic. It took a while to see a waiter, though I give them credit that a bus boy apologized and offered to get us drinks. We ordered appetizers first, and promptly received someone else's order. We tried unsuccessfully to send it back and. It took awhile for our waiter to return for our main course order, and then awhile to receive it, though they again tried to give us someone else's dinner. I look forward to giving them another try.

Took a party of 8 colleagues to Borgne at 7:30 on Wednesday, made the reservation through Open Table. Our group was seated as soon as we arrived. The restaurant is nicely decorated and pretty open, a really nice look to the bar and dining room. The server was prompt, knowledgable and very friendly throughout our visit. The food was fantastic. Apps were great, Turkey necks, duck poppers, oysters and empanadas, all were very good. Entree's were all fish dishes or soft shell crabs, every entree was solid. Desserts were outstanding as well. I've been to all of Chef Besh's restaurants and this one is a great addition to his brand. I highly recommend.

Having had several meals here, there are usually one or two items that I order which are disappointing. Today, the oysters on the half shell were miserably small and not shucked correctly, leaving much of the oysters attached to the shell. For the price, I'd expect the oysters to be at least medium sized and shucked correctly. A few were no bigger than a thumbnail, and that was before finding them still glued to the shells, leaving only a sliver of oyster on the fork. I ordered a salad, which was very flavorful and delicious, and a side of kale. The kale was swimming in way too much butter. I expect more, but many Besh restaurants have the same hit-or-miss. Service, however, is always above average- very friendly and attentive.

I have been to several of John Besh's restaurants and have never been disappointed. Borne's menu is small but the quality of the food is just amazing. From appetizers (duck poppers, crab claw fingers, and, of course, the oysters) to entrees (drum fish, soft shell crab, blackened wahoo) to desserts (chocolate nutella puddin'), every thing was exceptional. This was local seafood at it's finest. I actually went back 2 days after my first visit to have dinner again.

When we arrived, the hostess said they did not have our reservation, but luckily they weren't full and we were seated right away. The food and service from the wait staff at Borgne is excellent. We had the most amazing Hazelnut "pudding" that was more like half-pudding/half-mousse. I read in some reviews that the restaurant seemed like a cafeteria. I would not agree with that except for the plastic chairs. That was really surprising at a restaurant of this caliber. I know it's a casual vibe, but I would not expect plastic chairs at a John Besh restaurant. I found the rest of the decor to be modern and appealing. Overall, a very nice experience.

It was too loud and the food was not the high quality fare that I would expect from a John Besh restaurant. The ceviche came with saltines. The turkey necks tasted like they were cooked in soy sauce. The portion of soft shell crab was small, under seasoned and had nothing to compliment it. It should be an appetizer and not an entrée. Despite advertising a happy hour special, I had to remind the server to compute our discount.

Wanted to eat at a John Besh restaurant while in town & are glad we chose this one! Had a later reservation which was perfect; still busy without being packed. Our waitress, Sybill, was the best! She was very friendly, knowledgeable and just very welcoming. We really enjoyed talking with her and she gave great recommendations for our food! The cocktail and beer lists were great! An extensive beer list for my beer "snob" husband. Had the broiled oysters and duck poppers to start--highly recommend both!I had the black drum entree and my husband had the blackened wahoo. Both were extremely well cooked! So glad for the descriptions/recommendations from our waitress. And you can't go wrong with the puddin' or cobbler for dessert.

We were staying at the Hyatt Regency and decided to try out the restaurant there one night. It was not very busy, and the server gave us first -rate attention. And the FOOD! We started with warm crusty bread with softened butter. Then we shared the baked oysters which were delicious. For my meal, I had a special appetizer as my meal which was a local fish prepared shashimi style and it was excellent. My wife had the soft shell crab, which came with 2 and was plenty for both of us. The food was some of the best I've ever had, and I have dined all over the world.
