A word from Borgne
"When people ask where in New Orleans to go for great local seafood,
I want the answer to be Borgne." - Brian Landry, Executive Chef

Chefs John Besh and Brian Landry grew up fishing on Lake Borgne, the epicenter of coastal cuisine in Louisiana.
Their shared passion for Louisiana seafood brought them together to create Borgne, a celebration of coastal Louisiana with a touch of Isleño influence. Borgne will be a gathering place for locals and visitors alike, a CBD lunch spot, a quick bite before the game and a casual setting for a delicious dinner with friends.

Went for lunch before Monday night football, then back for pregame snacks at the bar. Definitely a little noisy before game with packed bar area. Lunch time was quiet. Really attentive and informative waiter. Great drink pairing recommendations. Food was best meal for us that week. Apps were tasty. We really liked the ceviche and empanadas. Oysters and Poppers were good. The oyster spaghetti dish was rich and delicious. Single best meal of the week. Red beans and pork chop also perfect. Catfish poboy also really good. This will now be added to our top 5 in Nola.

This is a great restaurant with a great down home feel, wonderful creole cuisine, and a wonder décor. The artwork, oyster shell columns, and chalk board creations give this notable seafood restaurant, named for Lake Borgne a high end feel with out being too much. This will be in the rotation from now on.

Our appetizers were very good especially the Caesar salad which was one of the best Caesar salad I have ever had. The fried chicken entree was also delicious however we did send the shrimp entree back because a very strong seasoning which kind of over powered the whole dish. It was exchanged for another entree with no difficulties and that entree was very good. Attentive bartenders, and a cool, interesting decor

The waitress was incredibly knowledgeable about the food on the menu and had a great way of telling a story about the history of the food. When they were out of sangria and making another batch, she gave me a different cocktail on the house. I went with a large group of coworkers and they gave us an entire section of the restaurant to ourselves. All of the food, even the starter bread, was amazing! I will definitely be going back.

On a Tuesday night, 8pm ish, Borgne wasn't too noisy, but I see how it could be at busier times. Decor is simple. 3 of us dined and started with the recommended duck poppers, which were good, not great. Despite having jalopeno pepper, they were not spicy at all. We ordered a shrimp & pasta dish, fish in a bag and a fish baked with breadcrumbs. All were very good, but the fish in a bag smelled like a burnt bag. Service was medium, friendly, but slightly inattentive. For us, it was about the food and we were not disappointed

The broiled oysters were good. (Not as good as the ones at Besh Steak) However, the Oyster spaghetti was phenomenal! One of the best pasta dishes ever served. It was rich and creamy, the oysters were tender and succulent, and the pasta perfectly al dente.

We already knew that the setting was more like a cafeteria - however, the noise level is unacceptable, as one can barely hold a conversation without raising your voice to a level akin to shouting. As to the food - it was acceptable - however not superb, as one would expect from a Besh establishment. All I can say is that we expected a wow culinary experience and did not have that moment. Roasted Garlic soup was no better than that we have had elsewhere. The Fish in the Bag was dry, and tasteless. The vegetables that were cooked with the fish; with the intent to infuse the flavors to the fish failed to do so, and were just burned to the bottom of the parchment paper and could not be freed to be tasted. The Shrimp was tasty and had a kick to it however it was overshadowed with a heavy shrimpy aftertaste. Service was perfect - not overbearing. If left to choosing between this Besh property and the other locations - I suggest that you book a table at LUKE.

My wife and I had dinner at Borgne on a Saturday night on a recent trip to New Orleans. We are big fans of the John Besh restaurants and have been to both August and Luke many times. This was our first visit to Borgne and it did not disappoint. I had read mixed reviews about the decor but we thought it was sleek and modern with a great bar and dining area. Diners would feel perfectly comfortable in jeans or a more dressed up look. It would also be a great place to eat at the bar. We started with the duck poppers and the grilled oysters and both were excellent. My wife had the Black Drum entree and I had the Whole Seafood Stuffed Flounder. Both were excellent as well and the Flounder is big enough to be shared. We closed with a delicious Chocolate Tart. As with all John Besh restaurants we have visited, the staff was uniformly excellent. We would also consider this an excellent choice for lunch or happy hour.

Had the green salad just for the dressing, it was that good. The Louisiana shrimp was nicely balanced and the roasted eggplant was a stand-out. Only complaint is the noise-level. It is so hard to hear over the din from the bar, even though we were seated away from it.

The food, the service, the atmosphere - all were good, not great. It all adds up to a Besh restaurant (good), but in a hotel (but not great). It was really loud, full of large groups of tourists having a good time. The good sounded good on the menu and tasted fine, but wasn't as good as I would have expected. I think it's probably great for folks from out of town, but not really a good choice for a NOLA native who knows better. Go to August, Domenica or even The American Sector instead.

From our party of 4 we were split on our opinion. The eggplant appetizer and the oyster appetizers were superb. The fish in the bag was good - but only half was finished. The garlic shrimp over couscous was good - but not great. The stuffed flounder is a whole fish - so if you don't mind fish bones in your stuffed flounder then you will enjoy this dish. Service was only fair - Perrier ordered for the table and the server brought us a single 20 oz bottle of generic. We wont talk about when the waitress re-filled my coffee she missed the cup and ended up pouring it in my lap. With so many great places to enjoy in New Orleans - this restaurant should not be tops on your list.

Went here with a party of 8 for lunch. The food was delicious. We loved the ceviche, duck poppers, and the fried green tomatoes. Another member of our party had the fried chicken special and loved that as well. All of the fish dishes we tried were amazing. The way the fish was prepared really highlighted the delicate flavors and great texture. I will definitely be back as often as I can.

While in New Orleans I went twice with two groups, because the first group was so blown away. Every dish was delicious (except one) and described as the best X (fish, fried chicken, shrimp, ceviche...) someone had every had. The menu is excellent and approachable. The second meal was less perfect only for one reason- deciding we wanted something green but not the sole salad, we had a side of sautéed kale with chick peas. The dish was seeping in butter and left those who partook with stomachs aches from just a few bites. The dishes don't taste heavy (with this exception) but definitely are- lots of butter and oil. Both groups were too full to have dessert, which is a shame because the choices sounded wonderful.

Loved the food. The blackened swordfish was the best fish my husband says he has ever had. Great mixologist on staff. Attentive server. No ambience to speak of. Chairs and tables reminded us of a high school cafeteria. Husband's salad had a half-alive grasshopper in it that was not listed as an official ingredient. Management was apologetic and brought out a new salad, but nothing else...not even a free dessert. Ok, so it probably means the salad greens were very fresh, but I'm glad it wasn't dragging itself across my plate!

We were staying at the Hyatt and while we usually avoid the "hotel restaurant", the John Besh name drew us in. I started with the duck poppers, which were tasty (note that the portion size does not lend itself to sharing). For entrees, my wife enjoyed the fish (grouper in this case) in a bag and I had a delicious dish of drum with brown butter sauce and pecans. The pecans were an unexpected delight, and the seasoning was perfect. For dessert, we shared the "deconstructed key lime pie", which was topped with bourbon ice cream. I found the flavors were good separately, but I am not sure that the ice cream works with the key lime. Service was great. Atmosphere was a bit noisy, and the furniture (plastic chairs) was not terribly comfortable.

Food was excellent. I had black drum with pecans and crab meat; my wife had a shrimp dish. We shared the duck poppers. THESE ARE A MUST. Grilled romaine salad was also excellent. After eating heavy or fried food in New Orleans for several days, this was a great way to end our trip. Topped off with a shared chocolate hazelnut pudding. This was our second visit to a John Besh restaurant. Both different, but the quality of the meal was the same. The only issue we had was that the main dishes came out of the kitchen when we barely touched the salads and we had to send them back. I don't know if we were being rushed or if it was poor coordination in the kitchen. Our table was not being turned over, so I suspect the latter.

The openness to the bar is not an attractive design and exacerbates the noise level. John Besh is an artist when it comes to food preparation, quality and overall scrumptious dining. One leaves satisfied and wanting to return again and again. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. This is our third time at Borgne and as locals we will continue to return. The only unfortunate thing is that you cannot hear your partner across the table. The noise level is deafening. So, it is not for a romantic evening.

John Besh does not disappoint with this restaurant. Although it is located in a hotel, the food is excellent and cooked to perfection. The basil shrimp and fried green tomato appetizer is not to be passed on. The fish in a bag entree is definitely a must. The fish was mahi mahi and the portion was very generous. The charred corn and brussel sprout sides complemented the entree. The service is excellent, from the waitress to the servers to the bartender. Make it a point to eat here.
