BorgneMy reviewVery good food and loved the rustic flavors. I would come back for the duck poppers, maybe more on the plate too.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMBest meal we ate in New OrleansWe were in New Orleans for a girls weekend. This was by far the best meal we ate there! You can't go wrong with anything there and everything we ate is highly recommended. We had the duck poppers and fried P&j oysters amandine salad to start. For entrees we had the black drum a la plancha, fish in a bag (which happened to be grouper that day), and the crawfish cavatelli. While all entrees were excellent, the favorite was the crawfish cavatelli. This place is very reasonably priced for the quality of food. I love John Besh!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent ServiceThe service was excellent and the goat cheese appetizer was great. The restaurant is casual, but some were well dressed. Long bar with TVs as well as areas away from bar. Have only gone just recently for the first time for a special occasion, but the atmosphere was more casual than expected. It is not a table cloth restaurant, but is somewhat elegant.
The food was good and the service was excellent. It's definitely worth going to to make your own opinion.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Oysters Ever!We will certainly come back to Borgne. In 5 nights of dining, this was the best food, by far! The broiled oysters were puffy and extremely tender. Melts in your mouth. Mmmm....mmm...good.
This was followed by the Mahi Mahi in a bag. My husband, who owned an Italian restaurant in NY for 30 years, was impresssed with the moist, flaky fish and combination of tastes and textures. I had the black drum a la plancha. Moist, tender, delicious. I savored every mouthful because I did not want it to be finished. Our waiter, Michael, was friendly and gave us excellent service.
The ambience was the one missing element of our experience. It was very minimalistic. However, if you want fabulous food at good prices, this restaurant is a must.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. Great Service.Great food. Great Service. What else can be said. One of our favorite spots in the CBD. Staff is friendly and order the duck poppers (probably more than one order, they are great).6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGotta try it!iThe food was great especially the pork empanadas, and the oysters. I thought the main entree could have been a little bit bigger portion for the price but it was a good amount if you plan on ordering several courses like we did. We had a table of 8 and the service was excellent. Drinks were kept full and the table was cleared of used dishes quickly. All of the food came out as ordered and the filet mignot was cooking perfectly!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious! We loved the food - the duck poppers were insanely good! We also had the empanadas and they were delicious as well. My husband had the fish in a bag, and I had the stuffed flounder - both very good. The chocolate hazelnut pudding for dessert was one of the best desserts I have ever had - highly recommended! Our server was not the greatest...he just wasn't very friendly, but overall we enjoyed the restaurant.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMCasual Deliciousness!I love John Besh's restaurants and this one did not disappoint. I had a rich black drum with lump crabmeat and brown butter sauce. It was fabulous. I also enjoyed the simple hazelnut salad with pear. It was fabulous without being fussy. However, the dark chocolate cake that I had for dessert was the big hit of the evening!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAh. May. Zing!I swear, this food changed my life. The waiter was perfect. Full of information upon request, but invisible enough to leave us alone when in conversation. Didn't push us in upcharges, but made it easy for us to do when we chose.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant! We enjoyed every aspect of our family celebration at Borgne. The food was excellent, fresh, creative, and beautifully prepared. Service was friendly and perfectly timed. The decor honors our great home! Spectacular!5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent SeafoodHad dinner for the first time at Borgne and it was just as good as lunch has been. Highly recommended!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFun DinnerFood was delicious and atmosphere is vibrant. My husband and I went with another couple and had a great time.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMBorgne is incredible. ServiceBorgne is incredible. Service was great. Every dish we ordered was outstanding. Stuffed flounder, grits and grillades, salads, strawberry pies, duck poppers, cocktails!! Everything was very fresh, perfectly prepared, reasonably seasoned. One draw back - This is the loudest restaurant I have ever been to in my life. But, I will be back very soon!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing flavors!EVERYTHING that we had was exceptional! Great appetizers and entrees. Stuffed flounder, Oyster BLT, pork grillades & grits. Don't miss this one!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful RestaurantThe food was wonderful and the service was excellent!! It's in the Hyatt so you don't have to go far if you are staying there.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMIndustrial space, but good foodRestaurant is promoted as being from John Besh, but is actually run by Brian Landry, an excellent chef, but there is some false advertising issues here.
The restaurant is in the Hyatt Regency. Had we known this was a hotel restaurant we would not have gone there.
The ambience is very industrial, reminiscient of the cafeteria of a large company. It is cold and nosiy, with plastic chairs.
The food, however, is very good. The gumbo was the best I've ever had. And the service was excellent.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMOne You Should Not MissLooking in from the outside, we had some doubts even though it was highly recommended. Our reservation was for 8:30pm and we were immediately seated. Being from San Diego, I thought we had experience every kind of margarita. These were were fresh tasting with a little after due to the jalapeno peppers. Our appetizer was the duck poppers; an incredible blend of flavors. I had the fish in a bag and my wife had the crayfish cavatelli as entrees. We both agreed that the fish in the bag fabulous. The service and food are not to be missed when in New Orleans.
Gene and Shari H.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and serviceToo bad the restaurant is located in a big chain hotel.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMBesh doesn't disappoint!I've been to every Besh restaurant in New Orleans, so we were very excited to try this new one in the Hyatt. We were able to get a last minute reservation for the last night of Jazzfest. The casual atmosphere reminded me of an upscale seaside restaurant. But the food was a true highlight. I had a shrimp and pasta dish with a delicious lemon sauce. It tasted so fresh! My husband had the fish in a bag and it was so flavorful. We stared with a yummy roasted beet salad. Definitely a repeat for future visits.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMHere is a clue :- went twiceHere is a clue :- went twice in 5 days! Highly recommended5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOur group went to Borgne duringOur group went to Borgne during Jazzfest weekend and had a great time there. The food, energy and service were spectacular! Two of us ordered the flounder and o-m-g that was amazing!! They give you a whole flounder with the head on and stuffed with seafood. The fish itself was so tender and cooked to perfection. I definitely would recommend this restaurant and when we go back to NOLA, we are going there again!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food wierd spaceFortunately the food and the service at this place is top notch, like all Besh restaurants, because the space the Hyatt provided is just plain weird, a bit of a mix of Night at the Roxbury and a Luby's Cafeteria. The concept of the restaurants begs to be at a less pretentious space. Come for the food and the folks who work there, not for the goofy design they had to work with by moving in there.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing cuisine! Now, oneAmazing cuisine! Now, one of my top 5 restaurants in Nola...and that's saying A LOT!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA must dine kinda place!!The broiled oyster are to die for!! Fish in bag is a must have. Between four of us we had 5 appetizers/4 entrees/2 desserts and all of them were amazing! Notably the best seafood in NOLA!!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMvery underrated!top notch seafood -- creative, fresh and more reasonably priced than other NO eateries.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe staff was very helpfulThe staff was very helpful in finding our party a quiet table. The food was very good.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time visitManhattan for starters were fine drinks. Oysters were bigger and better than Felix's the night before. and those were quite good. We had the Drum Fish with pecans and they were great and I would not hesitate to get them again. One member of our party had the crawfish pasta and was not happy with the sauce, but was compensated with the Chocolate cake caramel desert, which was a great way to end the meal. We also had a glass of local New Orleans port, which as you can suspect was not that good, but good try to the local vineyard...5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGood ServiceWe were fortunate to get an excellent waitress, who knew the menu and wine list. We had an exceptional experience for our wedding anniversary.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe duck poppers were outstandingThe duck poppers were outstanding as was the flounder stuffed with shrinp. the Executive Chef actaully delivered the poppers. that was a nice treat. Made us feel special. You just can't go wrong with a John Besh restauarant in NO!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AManother Besh best betMarvelously prepared seafood (and others)! We remembered this place from a trip last year and enjoyed the food even more on our 2nd visit. It is a cavernous and casual, tastefully appointed but super-noisy room. Oyster almandine salad, drum main dish, twice-cooked chicken were all outstanding--well-cooked but very succulent. Portions were quite generous: the kitchen split our salad for us and we thought the first half plate the waiter set down was the whole thing, reasonably sized. Couldn't finish one (delicious) dessert among 3 of us. I wouldn't call it health food, but there is a lighter touch with the butter and bacon fat here than many NOLa spots. Wine list was decent, with all offered by the glass, a nice touch.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMA totally different experienceA totally different experience than Besh's August. A little more trendy/casual but just as pleasant. Unique menu, heavy on the seafood, with very flavorful and creative dishes. Super friendly and helpful wait staff. Nice large bar as well. Was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the meal considering it's in a hotel. Even with so many great dining options in the area, Borgne is still well worth a taste.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMA sure hit!Great food and service! The oysters on pasta was fantastic, in particular. It sounds plain, but it wasn't. The wine list can get very pricey, but we found a very nice wine for $32. The only negative was the noise level -- it was little loud due to the music and probably the acoustics of the room itself.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, reasonable prices.Great food, reasonable prices. Noisy, hard to have a conversation.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMwent there for our 25th weddingwent there for our 25th wedding anniversary and can honestly say it was the best anniversary dinner we have had. food was perfect and timed extraordinary, service was top notch and they even went above and beyond to make our night special. Will definitely be back and will recommend4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant is in a hotelThis restaurant is in a hotel - don't let that put you off from trying a modern take on "coastal" Louisiana food.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe live in the warehouse districtWe live in the warehouse district and this is a greart addition to the CBD restaurant scene. The area over by the Hyatt has really come alive. A fun place to grab some quick, great food.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMStarted off with a tentativeStarted off with a tentative and knowlegable waiter, the interior was fun and friendly, food was fantastic, John besh does a great job of mixing local southern favorites with a touch of contemporary uniqueness. Kind of noisy but that's New Orleans for you, great bar as well4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was good though theThe food was good though the crawfish entree I had could have been more highly seasoned. The thing that stood out most about my exoerience was the service. Our server, I believe his name was Lance, was very personable and had great knowledge of the menu items: ingredients and preparation. He made our dining experience both enjoyable and memorable. I look forward to dining there again4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful place. Amazing foodWonderful place. Amazing food and great service. The "look" of the place is a little more casual than what you might expect from a hotel restaurant featuring a celebrity chef, but the food and the service are as good as any fine dining in New Orleans.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMChef Brian Landry and JohnChef Brian Landry and John Besh hit a home run here. This is the second time that I have had the pleasure to eat at Borgne. The food is excellent, period, full stop. This time I had the Drum a la planche. Delicious, absolutely, delicious; the brown butter and pecan really compliment the drum. My companion had the friend chicken; amazing, succulent, not at all oily, with an amazing sauce. The best hot friend chicken I have ever had; I am partial to cold friend chicken.
My one complaint is that the decorations make the room feel a bit too open and austere. A divider between the bar and dining area would help to solve this minor defect.
A+++4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMStarted off with a FrenchStarted off with a French 75...yum. then we had the empanadas with a very good sauce. We had the Oyster Spaghetti and the fish in the bag. The fish was a bit on the dry side. Service was wonderful. Not much atmosphere and a lot of noise.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've been here many times,We've been here many times, usually prior to attending an event at the Superdome or Arena. It was crowded but the service was excellent. The food was also excellent, as always (we both had the drum).4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for New Orleans seafood.Great for New Orleans seafood. Very friendly & fun service.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food but no place for a romanTheir oysters on the half-shell and their black drum were superb. The waitstaff. however, spent a lot of time chatting with each other rather than paying attention to their tables. The noise level was more "painful" than "energetic." However, the food was so good I'd go again.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food...Great experience!!!!Borgne is the best! Our waiter, Joseph, was wonderful and spot on with his food suggestions...extremely knowledgeable. Very easily accommodated our kids with several kid meal options. We started with fried calamari...really good. My husband ate the braised rabbit and I got the local greens salad and oyster spaghetti. We were both extremely satisfied and even switched off to share. The absolute best part of our meal was the chocolate hazelnut pudding with condensed milk sorbet....OMGoodness! Ordered two for each of us to share with the kids. I wish I would have had my own. This was our first time and I can't wait to return. Wonderful experience!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was amazing exceptEverything was amazing except for the Alligator soup... Skip it.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a chef friend recentlyHad a chef friend recently visit N.O. and went to a lot of places, and said that this was his favorite. To me, this is a fun, bright place and better for lunch and dinner with group of friends where drinking and getting together is more of the focus vs. a serious dining experience, even though the food was great. Service was excellent- I have been going out all week all over town, and the staff here was the best so far. Very knowledgeable. Good to know for families that they did a great job with the kids- did a special friend shrimp kids plate4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMEaster party of 6 adults andEaster party of 6 adults and 3 small children. Zero complaints. The meunière almandine fish was amazing, duck poppers, crawfish croquettes, etc etc. my husband thoroughly his Bloody Mary. Staff were wonderful. There were several large parties with children and the place was extremely entertaining. Highly recommend to all.
Since it was Easter, there were alot of children. But I was told about their Happy Hour during the week which is definitely enticing. I will have to check that out.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMService and food always consistentService and food always consistent !!!
