A word from Borgne
"When people ask where in New Orleans to go for great local seafood,
I want the answer to be Borgne." - Brian Landry, Executive Chef

Chefs John Besh and Brian Landry grew up fishing on Lake Borgne, the epicenter of coastal cuisine in Louisiana.
Their shared passion for Louisiana seafood brought them together to create Borgne, a celebration of coastal Louisiana with a touch of Isleño influence. Borgne will be a gathering place for locals and visitors alike, a CBD lunch spot, a quick bite before the game and a casual setting for a delicious dinner with friends.

Diner Reviews
  • "Very good experience - everything was wonderful. The food was special and so was the service. We started off with the oyster pie, which was very good. For entrees, we had the oyster spaghetti and fish in a bag. Both were great, as was the decomposed key lime ice box pie. Excellent - we will definitely return the next time we are in New Orleans."

  • "I heard so many good things about this restaurant. How fresh the seafood was, how great the chef was, etc. The service was great but unfortunately the food was completely bland. Then the bill came and I felt it was too over priced for the food we had. I would not recommend people to spend their money here if they want some really good food."

  • "Even though I am allergic to shellfish, I enjoy Borgne thanks to its variety of other dishes, excellent cocktails, and eclectic decor. It's a lovely dinner spot."

  • "Great drum fish w/crab and pecans. My wife enjoyed the fish in the bag but felt the carmelized onions/fennel didn't complement the fish, otherwise excellent."

  • "The restaurant was very cool and the food fantastic, but the seats were extremely uncomfortable. I am not sure I would want to eat there for dinner if I was out in the open area."

  • "Had the lunch special and the food was great. Could not believe the value for a ten dollar meal. We also had desert and was great for the value."

  • "Wonderful food and service make Borgne the right choice for both tourists and locals. Our friendly and efficient server,John, knew the menu well and gave great recommendations. Favorites from this visit were the grilled octopus appetizer(fork tender served with a unique, yummy hummus),the yellow tomato gazpacho(perfect for summer lunch),drum a la plancha(cooked/seasoned perfectly atop crabmeat and pecans) and the bbq shrimp poboy. Super kudos to John and kitchen for their conscientious attention to my son's food allergy needs. Yes, Borgne can get a bit noisy during peak dining hours and yes,it is a bit pricey. But, the casual "come as you are" atmosphere, delicious flavors and hospitality make Borgne a great choice for both tourists a locals."

  • "The restaurant is busy, but it does not slow the service down. A good selection of wines seems well suited for the menu. Ah, but the menu is what stands out at Borgne. You might expect to be hit with traditional Cajun spices and flavors, but it is anything but traditional. Layers of flavor await you on any of the menu choices. The use of browned butter adds depth, and is often lost when served with a lot of spice, but the team at Borgne keep maintain the flavor and marry it well throughout. Portion sizes are well planned and allow room for desserts, which should not be missed. Highly recommended for groups small or large."

  • "Borgne is a fine choice if you are looking for a convenient meal and you are staying in the adjoining hotel. New Orleans is not short on excellent food choices and I think you can have a more notable meal and the same price point elsewhere in the city."

  • "Went for Sunday lunch with friends. Was expecting a brunch menu, but they didn't have one. That ended up being fine. Our food was outstanding. The grilled octopus was tender and flavorful. Not rubbery at all. The grilled romaine salad is a true winner...not your grandma's Caesar salad. The garlic shrimp was excellent, as was the fish in in a paper bag. One of our party ordered the hangar steak. He likes it med. to med. well, but let them bring it med. rare. He was disappointed, but it was his fault. The meat was cooked perfectly med. rare. The chocolate hazelnut puddin' with condensed milk sorbet was slap yo momma good. Wow! Service was very good. Ambiance is rather more casual than expected, but nice. High marks!"

  • "Party of 4 - all enjoyed Highlights were hangar steak and whole snapper. Parking validation did not cover entire cost so that was a disappointment at the end."

  • "This is a great restaurant but the noise level is ridiculous . Can be dealt to make acceptable"

  • "Between the overwhelming noise and condescending service the pretty good food didn't have a chance."

  • "Comfortable and average priced, the innovative cuisine comes with a heavy dose of local decor. Pictures depict locals fishing and boating on Lake Borgne while the roominess of the restaurant is broken up by huge caged columns of oyster shells. Large paintings and chalk drawings are a vibrant compliment. Excellent variety of delicious cocktails, beer and wine and the food is fresh, local and perfectly crafted for maximum tastbud excitement. Service staff did whatever it took to make us happy including taking pictures of our group & making sure our food allergies were adhered to."

  • "Enjoyed my lunch there. Unfortunately, the entrees are pretty pricey for lunch, but you do not leave hungry and the food is prepared to perfection. I always get fish and I'm never disappointed. On this occasion, I had the black drum...again.. and it came out perfect with a solid amount of crabmeat on top. Exactly how I wanted it prepared."

  • "When I made the reservation I made a note that said celebrating engagement and birthday and neither we're acknowledged at the restaurant I was surprised by that. We started with the duck appetizer to me it just tastes like BBQ bacon and nothing else so was disappointed with those. The cocktails made by the bartenders we're really refreshing and the bartenders were friendly as well. When we got to our table our server was Edward and I only know that from the dinner receipt. It took him 4+ minutes to get to the table , he seemed flustered, he explained some things when he asked about them but nothing about his service wowed us. For this being such a famous chefs restaurant I just expected better service. Red snapper and drum fish were great!"

  • "Everything was delicious! The duck poppers and fish in a bag were phenomenal. We were in town for the weekend and ate at Borgne on a Friday night, it was so good we contemplated trying to cancel done other reservations we had at other restaurants to eat at Borgne again. Will be back again!"

  • "The food was excellent and we really enjoyed the food and the portions were just right. Fresh and well presented. Service was good with out being over bearing."

  • "The house salad and drum were absolutely delicious. The noise level, however, was really too loud. I don't know how they could fix that but it dampened the overall experience. Can't say enough about the food being great and the service was excellent as well."

  • "some of the food dishes didn't make sense. the BBQ shrimp po boy was just difficult to eat the way it's prepared. and yes, i'm from new orleans, and i'm familiar with BBQ shrimp. take a note from Liuzzas by the track to see how that sando is supposed to work. the duck poppers were great. our french fries were small and difficult to eat as were the onion rings. the dessert was great. Key Lime pie."

  • "I wish they had pork belly available (I guess there's only so much to go around) for the Oyster and Pork Belly Po Boy - I've had one similar at Cochon and it's the best bite I had there. It's a hotel restaurant, so there's that to deal with (people milling at all times). The columns in the restaurant are very cool. It's bright and clean. The sandwiches are enormous. The lobster spaghetti is delicious. The cocktails are somewhat lacking (I got a "Snapdragon" which tasted like straight whiskey - I didn't complain, I like whiskey, and another tasted like mint tea). The desserts are great (the hazelnut pudding with the condensed milk sorbet is amazing - pro tip: just order a giant bowl of the sorbet). All in all, it's not too expensive."

  • "I had high expectations for this restaurant, and they certainly delivered. The atmosphere was more casual than I expected, and I liked that because it means we'll be more likely to return. It was a nice mix of tourists and local folks the night we visited. The fish in a bag was not to be missed along with the duck poppers. Great food and great servied"

She provided great service, answered all questions, eager to please and she gave us all separate checks!!!! effeciently and without complaint. I called the restaurant the day of and they were willing to add 3 more to the reservation. The drinks were very good, food delicious and lovely atmosphere. A fun eve with friends/colleagues Thanks"

  • "I've been to Borgne twice. Once with a group of ladies for brunch and once with a 13 person dinner (including five children, ages 1, 2, 4, 6, and 11). The food, cocktails, and service were great both times. And the kids menu was great. Relatively inexpensive (I believe it was $5 for a grilled cheese and fries.) for a nice portion. I will definitely be back. "

  • "The food was very good. However the experience was very poor. There were several tables/patrons that were LITERALLY screaming at the top of her lungs. One diner was cackling and yelling. Another diner at another table was screaming loudly. The bar patrons were yelling due to the game on the screen. If it was just the bar patrons cheering loudly and yelling, that would be fine. But at least 4 other diners at 3-4 tables were yelling at the top of their lungs drunkenly. The restaurant management should not tolerate this bad behavior at the restaurant. Literally screaming at the top of their lungs. 100+ decibels of noise. We could not speak to each other at our table because we couldn't hear each other over the screaming and yelling."

  • "This restaurant was a find. Must try the duck poppers. Each bite was a flavor explosion begging you to do it again. All the entrees have a distinctive NOLA taste. You can't go wrong. Fish in the bag and the Oyster spaghetti are the home runs here. Dessert was a journey into the sublime. The key lime pie was FANTASTIC! I don't want to give it away but let's say Rum Ice cream. "

  • "Wow - Jeckyl and Hyde.... This was my second dinner at Borgne in 4 nights and a totally different experience. Lackluster service, a table too small to comfortably accommodate our dishes and food that lacked inspiration and was overcooked. Sad really when the previous visit was anything but. With so many great choices in NOLA this inconsistency is maybe too much of a risk for business dining. "

  • "One of the best meals I have ever had in NOLA. Duck poppers, octopus appetizers; oyster spaghettis, black drum were exceptional entrees. Service was top notch. Cocktails, dessert, even the bread were outstanding. Go there for that special occasion. We were there celebrating a Tulane graduation. "

  • "Had brunch here during a weekend in the big easy with good friends. The food was varied, in an unusual, in a modern setting. The twice baked chicken, and the soft shell crab (special that day) were excellent. Would eat here again. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Not at all crowded on a Sunday morning to my surprise. "

  • "This was our first trip to Borgne. We wanted to go somewhere special to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We were not disjointed in our choice. Service was excellent. Grilled Octopus appetizer was very tender and delicious. Same goes for the broiled Oyster appetizer. Soft shell crabs over lemon grits was not only super tasty but very generous in size. Oyster spaghetti made with fresh made pasta and so many oysters it was unbelievable. The garlic cream sauce was smooth, creamy and flavorful, yet did not leave any garlic after taste in your mouth. Icebox key lime dessert was served in a chilled bowl and served deconstructed. The dessert was large enough to split and provided a light, but delicious end to a wonderful meal. "
