  • "This spot was terrific. Food: Everything they served for brunch was delicious. I especially enjoyed the churro tots. Their Michelada was really refreshing and delicious. Service: These waiters/waitresses were fast, kind, and one even offered to bring me a third small plate (because I ordered only two, and we're allowed three) of something she thought I might enjoy. That right there, is quality service! Price: The value of this meal was set at the perfect price. I would dine here again."

  • "Had brunch here with friends for my bday before we headed out to the dodger game and it was great the plates took a little while to get to us we sat outdoors, but regardless of that the bottomless mimosas were always filled up and that kept me happy. I will come back soon!"

  • "My friends and I went to brunch at Border Grill because we love the concept on unlimited small plates. Most of the food we had was wonderful. Our waiter convinced us to order some items "family style" to speed up service. These dishes were in some cases hard to serve, and we felt guilty sending back large portions of dishes we did not like. I would eat brunch here again, but only if we stick to the small plates. The service was exceptional!"

We visited on a small plate Sunday and the food was extraordinary, unfortunately the food was often slow to arrive and jumbled upon arrival. We had a great time with great food al the same.   • "Went with a group of 7 for brunch Sunday for my birthday and had a great time! $20 for unlimited small plates, with a great variety available, which they serve family style for the table. Everything was DELICIOUS and perfect for sharing! We also added bottomless mimosas for $10 and they really made sure you ever saw the bottom. Everyone was happy and full. The outdoor patio is a great spot downtown to enjoy the sun and catch up with friends. I will definitely go back and couldn't recommend it enough. Thank you, Border Grill!"

  • "This is one of those places that makes me pause after the first flavorful forkful and say"Ah These folks really know what they are doing" I would have rated service better,because our Waitress was great BUT I asked for a few salad ingrediants on the side, as I was sharing with my wife and she doesnt eat them ., they came on the plate anyway. I got served a cup of coffee with a full inch of grounds at the bottom.How much effort does it take for a chef to READ the ticket and prepare the dish properly? or to look at the pour, see its the last of the pot and you are serving Coffee GROUNDS? Those arent outrageous requests at these prices."

  • "The menu needs some sprucing up. The food was fine but somewhat uninteresting. The steak in my tacos was overcooked. The rice and beans on my plate we cold. The rice pudding dessert was absolutely tasteless. The service was slow and inattentive. We had to constantly ask for refills on our water. Our waiter was nowhere to be found. The waiter's assistant spilled water all over our table and dumped a plate full of salsa containers on a man at the table next to us. The noise level was so loud we could not hear each other speak. Sadly, it was a very disappointing experience."

  • "I live in Hollywood, and I get downtown pretty often for music & the theater. Border Grill is a great choice for pre-show dining! They have a great menu and they know their stuff. They will wine and dine you, then get you on a shuttle to the theater of your choice. Try the Yucatan Pork :)"

  • "We had dinner with an Academy Award nominee on Saturday night, March 1. We flew in from out of town to meet them. The trip was complicated and we were delayed several times. The staff at Border Grill completely took care of us and it resulted in a pleasurable experience. Great service, good food.....even on the verge of closing time for Border Grill."

  • "Everything was great, and since we had a pretty good-sized group(14 people), they brought the items out family style. All the food was outstanding, and it kept coming and coming. The staff seemed to take pride in the fact that they wanted everyone to leave full, and we sure did. The mimosas were topped off, the birthday girl got all her favorite treats, and the family was treated to several hours of delectable and relaxed dining."

  • "I don't know if this is the case at Border Grill Santa Monica but we were disappointed not to have been able to order from the regular menu on Sunday. Happy hour and tapas menus were in effect. The tapas menu was all-you-can-eat for $25. I'm vegetarian and left hungry even though there were several good-tasting options. They just weren't filling like some of the excellent veggie fare I can get for dinner normally at Border Grill. A carnivore might have done better. Service was disappointing. We waited for a 1/2 hour for a table even though we had reservations. The place wasn't very full but they weren't using the main dining room, just the tables in the bar area. Service was slow. I won't be returning to that location if I can help it."

  • "I went here years ago and thought it was great. However, when I dined the other night I was a little disappointed. The server was very friendly, but the food (appetizers, entrees, dessert) came out extremely slow even though there weren't many others in the restaurant that evening. The ceviche appetizer was very good as were their happy hour prices. The main course was just ok though, and the tortillas served along with it were tough and seemed old. Overall, if you work downtown and want to stop in for happy hour after work, it think you will like it. However, I wouldn't really recommend it for dinner. (There are other better places to eat for the price)"

  • "What happened to this restaurant??? It used to be fun and the food was new and creative - now it is all just very tired. I think the Two Hot Tamales need to put some time, attention and energy back into these restaurants. The food is average, the service was an embarrassment especially because there were only a handful of people in the restaurant. I won't be going back there for a very long time. Too bad!"

  • "This is not your typical Mexican restaurant/food. I consider this, Mexican Cuisine. We started with a corn tamale and a plantain empanada-flavorful. had the grilled turkey breast that was tasty and tender with fresh greens and flavorful yams. My man had the lamb barbacoa tacos with rice and black beans. He raved about the soft, unique taste of the lamb and the homemade corn tortilla taco shells-delicious. The homemade churro tots, the chocolate caramel tart with vanilla ice cream and a hot cup of LaMill coffee ended our great evening at Border Grill. What made the evening extra special was our waitress who was originally from Germany. She was friendly, helpful, attentive, and even sang happy birthday to me while bringing my dessert."

  • "Came for Valentine's Day dinner. The food was exceptional but I wish they would have allowed customers to order from the regular menu. I wanted my husband to try the cevice and empanadas but we were limited to 5 or 6 overpriced small plates (16 dollars for one small crab cake?) specials and a limited number if entrees. I was also not happy they didn't tell me the regular menu wouldn't be served until they called the day of to confirm my reservation. I would have cancelled if I knew but by then it was too late. I recommend this restaurant but suggest you go on a non holiday so you don't have this experience."

  • "I was expecting to be blown out of my socks knowing that both of the chefs here had been on Top Chef Masters, but it never happened to me. Ordered duck enchiladas and the sauce was good but it all of made the rest of the dish disappear into a flavorless black hole of the sauce. I could say that I expected a lot more of the restaurant to shine through in bold flowering flavors. On a minor note to the food, we also had to wait nearly 10 minutes for the waitress to return to take our order after she brought us drinks, but than again I think when she returned we had a different waitress all together."

  • "I enjoyed the soup of the day, a spicy lobster bisque. Lots of spices but the flavor of the lobster was only enhanced. Also tried both ceviche dishes - fresh seafood, wonderful combinations of flavors yet each uniqur from the other. Strongly recommend all 3 dishes!"

  • "It wasn't very crowded, but service was slow. We ordered our appetizer and meal and waited..and waited.. A half hour later, a different server came to our table and asked us if we ordered appetizers. When we said yes, he looked at the two in his hands, shrugged his shoulders and gave them to us (as if oh well). My scallops were undercooked (still pink in the middle). The table of six behind us (seated after us) were served their meals. We waited...When we finally received our food (45 minutes later), we asked what took so long and the waitress told me it was my fault because my food took long to cook. I ordered a burger medium rare, and it was well done (so not really my fault). She was rude and didn't apologize for the poor service."

  • "We've seen Susan on various food shows and thought her restaurant would be a good one to hit on our short trip. So glad we picked this location. The food was delicious. I tried many different items and not one was bad. The fish was fresh, even on Sunday. Small Plate Sunday is the best idea ever! All you can eat small plates for $25 per person."

  • "If you have not tried this place for brunch put it at the top of the list. The food is amazing! Avocado tacos, chorizo tacos, oaxacan pancakes, green corn tamale...just to name a few. The food is fresh, clean and so flavorful that you can linger for hours and enjoy it all. I think this is the best brunch and for the price it is not to be missed!"

  • "I selected this restaurant because of its affiliation with the LA Phil shuttle program. Not worth it. While the servers were attentive to the time, the other components of this meal were poor. The server brought two wrong selections for two of the guests- only apologized slightly when it was pointed out to him repeatedly. The quality of the food was low- pre-manufactured sauces, very salty, and overall, heavy and greasy. The drinks were good. I would perhaps recommend this as a drinks venue and leave it at that."

  • "I received an email about the new small plates brunch & some friends, who we have been trying to get together with, wanted to eat downtown, so it was the perfect pick. There were 6 adults & 3 kids. 2 of us got their early and sat at the bar for drinks, then they set up a great outdoor table for our group. Everything was great! The small plates were all you can eat, and bottomless mimosas were awesome. They even let the kids eat from ours. The server & bartender were both SUPER & made the visit that much better. I highly recommend the weekend brunch, its a great deal w/ really good food & drinks & nice atmosphere!"

  • "Diners can sit in the bar to watch TV, on the patio to watch Figueroa St traffic or sit in the various indoor areas. The small plates are one bite or one 3" soft taco size. Good thing it is all you can eat and there is great service to refill your mimosa cup, clear the plates & bring hot new dishes. Not busy on Sunday so good for lounging & large groups to spread out. There's $3 validated parking & Blink PEV charging station in the Union Bank building."

  • "Went here for a quick weekday lunch with a colleague. I had the shrimp tacos, which unfortunately were a little boring. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, but the mango salsa was missing from my tacos. I think they added an aioli in its place, but it still seemed to be lacking something. My colleague had the pozole which was good, but not quite as filling as expected. Service was great. Our server was very attentive and helpful. The place tends to get a little loud, so the noise level was definitely up as the room got busier. I have eaten here for lunch many times, and although the food was a little disappointing this time, I'll be back as I know there are better choices on the menu."
