A word from Boqueria
Named for Barcelona's renowned food market, El Mercado de la Boqueria, Boqueria Washington, D.C.
features a seasonal ingredient-driven menu of expertly prepared tapas and regional Spanish cuisine under the direction of Barcelona native, chef Marc Vidal. Located on the corner of 19th and M, Boqueria offers residents and visitors of Washington D.C.'s bustling Dupont Circle neighborhood a taste of Barcelona. The restaurant is designed as a contemporary vision of
Barcelona's famed tapas bars and replicates the same look, feel, and flavor as its counterparts in New York City's Flatiron and Soho neighborhoods. In addition to the main dining room, Boqueria offers a private dining room as well as two semi-private dining areas and a seasonal outdoor patio.

  • "Luv Tapas tried Bombas de la Barceloneta, Patatas Bravas, Buñuelos de Bacalao, Pintxos Morunos and Nutella Churros. All were good."

  • "After living in Spain for a year, I'm a pretty tough tapas critic and Boqueria lived up to the challenge. A little pricey, but very delicious."

  • "Having been to three different tapas style restaurants in the past two weeks, Boqueria beats them all hands down. The outdoor seating with street music provided a great ambiance and reminded me a lot like Europe. There are so many good dishes, but the octopus was hands down the best, followed by the ricotto cheese desert. The wild mushrooms and lamb skewers were also delicious. The shrimp dish was ok, but was a little too oily for me."

  • "Every tapas dish we ordered was better than the last, and the Nutella-stuffed churros for dessert were a remarkable way to finish!!!"

  • "The service was amazing. Our server was attentive and kept our glasses full. The food was fabulous, I only wish we could have been able to eat more of the all you can eat tapas. Great value!"

  • "They allow the food here to stand on its own - no gimmicks or tricks. They serve high-quality items that are well-prepared. We enjoyed our meal here, as well as the guidance our knowledgeable waiter offered us. We dined outside, which was quite pleasant, but I can't report on the ambiance inside. Probably best to come in a group of at least 4 to be able to sample a good array of the offerings."

  • "I felt like I was in Barcelona again eating all of my favorite, authentic tapas. The service was great, food was delicious, drinks were amazing, and I can't wait to go back!"

  • "I normally love this place. The food & ambience is great but the service this time around left a lot to be desired. We all opted for the prix fixe for brunch and were alternately ignored and rushed by the waitress. She made the experience unpleasant. Moreover, because our party included 6 people, there was an automatic 20% tip. Not cool. I now hesitate to recommend this place. I did mention it to the manager afterwards and while he was apologetic he told me I should have complained while we were in the midst of our meal. I did provide my email address as he requested for follow up but haven’t heard back. I'm really not one to complain but this time around the service was poor. I hope that next time things improve."

  • "This restaurant has great food and excellent service. I was there recently for dinner and drinks with friends and our server was attentive and thorough. He knew the menu well and his suggestions were very helpful. We had a blast!!!"

  • "We took our teenage daughter for a special lunch and she loved it. The tapas were a perfect way to go so that we could all try a few different things. Lunchtime in DC can get a bit too business-like but it was fun, vibrant, and yummy food with helpful service. The warm churros with nutella at the end certainly left us leaving on a positive note! YUM Looking forward to an adult outing there as well to enjoy some sangria/wine and share some tapas with friends."

  • "We absolutely loved the food at Boqueria. We had numerous tapas and enjoyed every one of them. The only negative is that it is not baby friendly. I took my husband for Father's Day with our 1 year old baby. She is very used to eating out. They did not have a changing table (which isn't that uncommon), but they did not have highchairs either. The ambience is definitely kid friendly, so I am not sure why they do not try to accomodate young families."

  • "Amazing dishes include dates w/bacon, radishes, spinach, tortilla omelette of the day, churros w/chocolate. Seasonal special dessert of fresh strawberries was truly outstanding (prepared with caramelized white wine vinegar, orange zest, and pepper). Special sangria packed a delightful punch. Noisy place, hard for conversation. Would be nice if they could turn off individual speakers in the dining room to reduce the loud music by tables that don't enjoy it."

  • "For a late night dinner with a friend from out of town, Boqueria was a good choice. Food was quite tasty; as the vegetarian among the two of us, I stuck to pretty standard tapas dishes. Unfortunately they were out of both the beer my friend ordered--and the beer selection is nothing special, but better than you might expect from a Spanish tapas restaurant--and one of the dishes she wanted. But it went well and we stayed for more than two hours without feeling hurried at all. As others have noted, the noise level on a Friday night was intense at 9:30 when we arrived and eased off only some time after 11. The block around 19th and M is hopping on the weekend, so if you're looking for a quiet stroll you might head elsewhere."

  • "This is a wonderful place to meet a friend, grab a snax and enjoy yummy (reasonably priced) eats. If you want a quiet night out with your sweetie, go elsewhere. The servers are outstanding, I always seek and follow their advice/recommendations."

  • "The decor is very cool but something was missing. We were very surprised the place was relatively empty on a Sunday night, on a holiday weekend. Then we discovered why: The food just wasn't good. Not terrible either, but I believe that's why there wasn't a lot of people. In DC, your food needs to be amazing and it wasn't. Tons of competition withy Founding Farmers and others, where the food really is to die for."

  • "Could not believe how wonderful the quality of food was at Boqueria's all you can eat brunch. Patatas Bravas and the potato chip crusted chicken were my faves, but each thing we ordered was delicious! Awesome selection of drinks to choose from as well. Loved the Sangria Rosado. Service was great. Lida was very attentive. Everyone needs to try this place out. Mmmmmmm!"

  • "One of the few advantages of tapas restaurants is that you get to sample a variety of dishes, greatly reducing the risk that you will be stuck eating one plate of lousy food. It seemed that Boqueria took care to ensure that each plate was as mediocre as the next in an effort to eradicate any advantage you derive from tapas style dining. Four out of the five plates we ordered were utterly forgettable, noteworthy only for how consistently below average they were. The croquettes were over fried, the mayo was too heavy on the potatoes, the squid was flavorless. The one thing they got right was the lamb meatballs. But there are so many better small plate style restaurants in town, there is absolutely no reason to try Boqueria. Go to Zaytinya."

  • "Good food, different selection sand great service made an enjoyable evening. When we got there at 7, it was very noisy, but tamed as the evening went on. The hit of the night was our waiter, Bojau from Serbia who did an incredible job. He was very professional and knowledgeable and made our evening with suggestions on food and drink, since this was our first time there. He was also very protective due to my wife's seafood allergies and kept her very safe. The food servings were nice size and the excellent assortment provided satisfaction for all of our tastes. We will be back, as everything went well and the evening exceeded all expectations, thanks to Bojau."

  • "I love Boqueria but the only thing I would change is how LOUD it is. Everytime I go I have to yell to the other people I'm with and can hardly hear anything."

  • "I just returned from Barcelona and was looking forward to a meal at Boquería. The pan con tomate was excellent, as well as the cetas a la plancha. The service was okay - our waiter forgot to bring bread when we requested it. Our true disappointment was the host - his pants were hanging below his backside and it was not very "host-like". I'm not old-fashioned, but there should be standards!"

  • "I just returned from Basque Spain and was advised to check out Boqueria. And while I won't say dining here is the same as eating tapas and pintxos in Spain, the quality and variety of the offerings here is quite good and somewhat authentic. Good wine list, but not the prices of Spain. Service was very helpful and attentive."

  • "What a good find. Crazy weather had no valet outside, so in an area with no parking that was a challenge. But once inside loved the decor / atmosphere. Food was great! Sometimes tapas can be oily.... none here. We even had someone keeping kosher w us and the chef accommodated us nicely. Only reason for "good" on service was server changed over during our meal. "

  • "Paella was total disappointment; the seafood was so overcooked that it was chewy, prawns were chewy and hard and the fish very fishy. Our waitress was amazing! Had to ask the staff to lower the music base since we felt like we were in a night club."

  • "Been to Boqueria a couple of times before and both were great-great food, great service, great atmosphere. However, my last trip has me debating if I will ever return. After asking for water multiple times, the woman at the table next to us gave us the pitcher that was on her table, while noting that she comes there frequently and never has had service that awful before. We finally received our drinks-well, 3 out of the 4 of us did. Our other friend waited about 10 more minutes to receive hers - as they were waiting for more glasses. We received multiple items an hour after ordering and asking for them five times. The pancakes were burnt and at the end the waiter apologized for HIS service. Expensive brunch for horrible service. "

  • "This has to be my top choice of brunch spots now! Our server was one of the best I have had in the city- very attentive and make sure our drinks never went dry and the food was always coming. The whole idea of having tapas plates (over 10?) come out throughout the meal was fantastic. Then on top of that, we could order a repeat of any dishes we really loved. I also honestly loved every dish that came out with the exception of the lamb meatballs- those were not my fave. We had a great selection of drinks and those came throughout the meal as well. Amazing bang for your buck!"

  • "Came here to celebrate graduation. Loved the incredible selection of tapas... All very tasty and enjoyable. Fabulous Sangria was a great compliment to the food. Our server, Ryan was the best - so helpful and extremely nice.. And very patient with all of our questions. Highly recommended."

  • "Great ambiance, fun/festive atmosphere, excellent wine list, good selection of tapas. I lived in Barcelona for a year and would say it is all fairly authentic to the region. Only complaint is that I felt much of the food was a bit over salted. I would go back here though and try a few other things on the menu to see if this rings true or was just a one time observation."
