A word from Boqueria
Named for Barcelona's renowned food market, El Mercado de la Boqueria, Boqueria Washington, D.C.
features a seasonal ingredient-driven menu of expertly prepared tapas and regional Spanish cuisine under the direction of Barcelona native, chef Marc Vidal. Located on the corner of 19th and M, Boqueria offers residents and visitors of Washington D.C.'s bustling Dupont Circle neighborhood a taste of Barcelona. The restaurant is designed as a contemporary vision of
Barcelona's famed tapas bars and replicates the same look, feel, and flavor as its counterparts in New York City's Flatiron and Soho neighborhoods. In addition to the main dining room, Boqueria offers a private dining room as well as two semi-private dining areas and a seasonal outdoor patio.

Diner Reviews
  • "Loved my dinner there. Our waitress was phenominal, the sangria was perfect, and the good to die for. Will go again!!!"

  • "So, we do ladies brunch quite often and maybe have high expectations. It was ok, but would definitely not make a point to go back. We constantly had to ask for refills on drinks, service was slow, it took about 35 minutes to even begin to see food come out of the kitchen. I wanted to love it, but will be headed back to Zengo or Masa 14 in the future. Food was ok, eggs Benedict was the best."

  • "Highly recommended for brunch. Great combination of tapas and breakfast fare. Still savoring the datiles con beicon! Will come back"

  • "Great tapas restaurant, with good wine select and nice atmosphere outdoor. Good tapas menu, not unlike Jaleo's."

  • "Everything about boqueria's unlimited brunch was great. It was nice that afternoon so we sat outside. They allowed us to move the table into some shade when we needed. The food was absolutely amazing, and our waitress was great. Our table had sangria, and they weren't nearly as quick about filling up your glass as some other places. Not necessarily a complaint but worth knowing. My only real criticism is that the food took a long time to come out, and as such, we wanted to try more than the timing would allow! I'll book an earlier reservation next time."

  • "Gret spot - fun to share tapas with a group. All seating is in barstool height chairs...which somehow adds to the casual feel. Fun place with great, shareable place. Peach sangria was meh...but overall good experience."

  • "I only had lunch, which was good, but pricy. The space is very attractive, but the high tables are uncomfortable. It is not a place to which I would return regularly."

  • "One can construct a very good meal at Boqueria, but it was not clear after our visit exactly how. The food was highly inconsistent; a potato dish was quite good but spinach was lackluster. Similarly, an octopus special shined, but shrimp -- usually much simpler to prepare -- did not taste fresh. Opening salami was quite good; the closing churro a bit tough. Boqueria does an excellent happy hour business, but most of the din from the bar was audible in the dining room and conversation was quite difficult. The service staff treated our party extremely well."

  • "Boqueria is amazing and it is the best place for Brunch! The price fixe menu is a crazy deal (just make sure you are hungy)!"

  • "I took my girlfriend here on a date, and was definitely not disappointed. We both love tapas, so we ordered a variety of things and they all came out in a timely manner, and our waitress was extremely nice. Everything we had was delicious. I'd definitely recommend sitting outside if you're there n a summer afternoon. I'll definitely be coming back here more often."

  • "Delicious tapas, everything we ordered was wonderful. Best service I've had in years."

  • "Love the lamb meatball sandwich for lunch. Well balanced flavors with the patatas bravas & salad."

  • "Tapas prepared with ingenuity. At least 2 plates per person to create a meal. Few "entrees" except paella. Ours arrived in the small pan in which it was cooked with rice stuck to the bottom. Not what we were expecting for $18. Bread must be purchased. Cool water arrives in a milk jug for the table, though a glass of ice water will be made available upon request. My general feeling with this and other tapas restaurants -- expensive uniquely prepared plates with small tasting quantities. Bring back the entree!"

  • "Their tomato bread is amazing!!! And make sure to try the seasonal sangria it's always delish!"

  • "Luv Tapas tried Bombas de la Barceloneta, Patatas Bravas, Buñuelos de Bacalao, Pintxos Morunos and Nutella Churros. All were good."

  • "Having been to three different tapas style restaurants in the past two weeks, Boqueria beats them all hands down. The outdoor seating with street music provided a great ambiance and reminded me a lot like Europe. There are so many good dishes, but the octopus was hands down the best, followed by the ricotto cheese desert. The wild mushrooms and lamb skewers were also delicious. The shrimp dish was ok, but was a little too oily for me."

  • "We are so excited to have found this restaurant, there was something for everyone on the menu. The food was fresh and delicious. We will be back for sure."

  • "After living in Spain for a year, I'm a pretty tough tapas critic and Boqueria lived up to the challenge. A little pricey, but very delicious."

  • "The service was amazing. Our server was attentive and kept our glasses full. The food was fabulous, I only wish we could have been able to eat more of the all you can eat tapas. Great value!"

  • "They allow the food here to stand on its own - no gimmicks or tricks. They serve high-quality items that are well-prepared. We enjoyed our meal here, as well as the guidance our knowledgeable waiter offered us. We dined outside, which was quite pleasant, but I can't report on the ambiance inside. Probably best to come in a group of at least 4 to be able to sample a good array of the offerings."

  • "Every tapas dish we ordered was better than the last, and the Nutella-stuffed churros for dessert were a remarkable way to finish!!!"

  • "I felt like I was in Barcelona again eating all of my favorite, authentic tapas. The service was great, food was delicious, drinks were amazing, and I can't wait to go back!"

  • "I normally love this place. The food & ambience is great but the service this time around left a lot to be desired. We all opted for the prix fixe for brunch and were alternately ignored and rushed by the waitress. She made the experience unpleasant. Moreover, because our party included 6 people, there was an automatic 20% tip. Not cool. I now hesitate to recommend this place. I did mention it to the manager afterwards and while he was apologetic he told me I should have complained while we were in the midst of our meal. I did provide my email address as he requested for follow up but haven’t heard back. I'm really not one to complain but this time around the service was poor. I hope that next time things improve."

  • "This restaurant has great food and excellent service. I was there recently for dinner and drinks with friends and our server was attentive and thorough. He knew the menu well and his suggestions were very helpful. We had a blast!!!"

  • "I will return to this neighborhood gem. The menu is very good and the service is excellent. It is definitely better than Japeo!"

  • "We took our teenage daughter for a special lunch and she loved it. The tapas were a perfect way to go so that we could all try a few different things. Lunchtime in DC can get a bit too business-like but it was fun, vibrant, and yummy food with helpful service. The warm churros with nutella at the end certainly left us leaving on a positive note! YUM Looking forward to an adult outing there as well to enjoy some sangria/wine and share some tapas with friends."

  • "We absolutely loved the food at Boqueria. We had numerous tapas and enjoyed every one of them. The only negative is that it is not baby friendly. I took my husband for Father's Day with our 1 year old baby. She is very used to eating out. They did not have a changing table (which isn't that uncommon), but they did not have highchairs either. The ambience is definitely kid friendly, so I am not sure why they do not try to accomodate young families."

  • "For a late night dinner with a friend from out of town, Boqueria was a good choice. Food was quite tasty; as the vegetarian among the two of us, I stuck to pretty standard tapas dishes. Unfortunately they were out of both the beer my friend ordered--and the beer selection is nothing special, but better than you might expect from a Spanish tapas restaurant--and one of the dishes she wanted. But it went well and we stayed for more than two hours without feeling hurried at all. As others have noted, the noise level on a Friday night was intense at 9:30 when we arrived and eased off only some time after 11. The block around 19th and M is hopping on the weekend, so if you're looking for a quiet stroll you might head elsewhere."

  • "Amazing dishes include dates w/bacon, radishes, spinach, tortilla omelette of the day, churros w/chocolate. Seasonal special dessert of fresh strawberries was truly outstanding (prepared with caramelized white wine vinegar, orange zest, and pepper). Special sangria packed a delightful punch. Noisy place, hard for conversation. Would be nice if they could turn off individual speakers in the dining room to reduce the loud music by tables that don't enjoy it."

  • "This is a wonderful place to meet a friend, grab a snax and enjoy yummy (reasonably priced) eats. If you want a quiet night out with your sweetie, go elsewhere. The servers are outstanding, I always seek and follow their advice/recommendations."

  • "Could not believe how wonderful the quality of food was at Boqueria's all you can eat brunch. Patatas Bravas and the potato chip crusted chicken were my faves, but each thing we ordered was delicious! Awesome selection of drinks to choose from as well. Loved the Sangria Rosado. Service was great. Lida was very attentive. Everyone needs to try this place out. Mmmmmmm!"

  • "Great place to party with friends and eat tapas / drink sangria. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful meal, then look elsewhere."
    Dined on 6/6/2014
  • "One of the few advantages of tapas restaurants is that you get to sample a variety of dishes, greatly reducing the risk that you will be stuck eating one plate of lousy food. It seemed that Boqueria took care to ensure that each plate was as mediocre as the next in an effort to eradicate any advantage you derive from tapas style dining. Four out of the five plates we ordered were utterly forgettable, noteworthy only for how consistently below average they were. The croquettes were over fried, the mayo was too heavy on the potatoes, the squid was flavorless. The one thing they got right was the lamb meatballs. But there are so many better small plate style restaurants in town, there is absolutely no reason to try Boqueria. Go to Zaytinya."

  • "Good food, different selection sand great service made an enjoyable evening. When we got there at 7, it was very noisy, but tamed as the evening went on. The hit of the night was our waiter, Bojau from Serbia who did an incredible job. He was very professional and knowledgeable and made our evening with suggestions on food and drink, since this was our first time there. He was also very protective due to my wife's seafood allergies and kept her very safe. The food servings were nice size and the excellent assortment provided satisfaction for all of our tastes. We will be back, as everything went well and the evening exceeded all expectations, thanks to Bojau."

  • "I just returned from Barcelona and was looking forward to a meal at Boquería. The pan con tomate was excellent, as well as the cetas a la plancha. The service was okay - our waiter forgot to bring bread when we requested it. Our true disappointment was the host - his pants were hanging below his backside and it was not very "host-like". I'm not old-fashioned, but there should be standards!"
