A word from Boqueria
Named for Barcelona's renowned food market, El Mercado de la Boqueria, Boqueria Washington, D.C.
features a seasonal ingredient-driven menu of expertly prepared tapas and regional Spanish cuisine under the direction of Barcelona native, chef Marc Vidal. Located on the corner of 19th and M, Boqueria offers residents and visitors of Washington D.C.'s bustling Dupont Circle neighborhood a taste of Barcelona. The restaurant is designed as a contemporary vision of
Barcelona's famed tapas bars and replicates the same look, feel, and flavor as its counterparts in New York City's Flatiron and Soho neighborhoods. In addition to the main dining room, Boqueria offers a private dining room as well as two semi-private dining areas and a seasonal outdoor patio.

I had heard great things about this restaurant, but besides being crammed into a tiny corner for a two person reservation and having a waiter who barely spoke and made us feel like we should hurry up and go, we were less than impressed.

I usually go to Boqueria to have dinner with friends after work. I am never disappointed with the food or the service. We had two amazing specials: razor clams and lamb confit with piquillo peppers. Old standards like gambas al ajillo and xipirones (spelling?) were also particularly tasty. It is so nice to see this restaurant so consistently good.

I returned to Boqueria with a good friend from Spain. We had several small plates (tapas) of authentically cooked Spanish (not Mexican) cuisine. The smashed eggs (huevos estrellados, with serrano ham over potato crisps topped with a lightly fried egg) were delicious. The gambas al ajillos (garlic shrimp) was also nice. The star was the paella ($19 per person, minimum two) was nicely cooked and topped with calamari, clams and shrimp. My Spanish friend noted that it was nice, although there were a few liberties with the authenticity, but we both enjoyed the meal. It was sparcely populated on a Sunday evening, low-key and the noise level made conversation easy. Nice waitress who gave us space but kep items coming as they were ready. Good wine.

There's nothing like tapas to remind me of all of my wonderful trips to Spain and Boqueria delivers some positives and some negatives. The food is good--the (vegetarian) tortilla espanola, the cauliflower, the pan con tomate, and the peach and bourbon sangria are memorable, the gambas good. We sat inside but the music on Saturday night was great outside! The service was definitely negative. We ordered, food was brought (by non-waiters), and we barely ever saw the guy again. It's so much more fun when your in a group to have the opportunity to order more, to give your opinion on food, to have your food come in a timely manner. Maybe we just got unlikely with the service that night...guess I would try them again. Nice to see tapas in window!

There were 5 of us and each of us ordered 2-3 tapas (we were quite hungry). Half of the dishes were great - steak, paella, croquetas - but half of them were not, and clearly not the spanish tapas they were supposed to be e.g. patatas bravas are not patatas bravas. If I go not expecting spanish tapas, then I would be all right overall.

We went to Boqueria for Saturday brunch and it was amazing. It is somewhat expensive so I would save it for a special occasion, but every tapa brought to the table was absolutely delicious, as were the unlimited mimosas. We ate so much it was practically breakfast-lunch-dinner. I would suggest adding other beverages to the flat-rate brunch (such as coffee!), but everything else was perfect. Our server was truly nice and had great recommendations. Will definitely go again.

I little disappointing as I really enjoyed the NYC restaurant. The generous pitcher of sangria was refreshing on a very hot summer night. The patatas bravas yummy with the contrast of spicy salsa and soothing garlicky aioli. Lamb meatballs were very flavorful and not too salty. A special salad of watermelon and ripe tomatoes was delighfully fresh. The main disappointment was the seafood fideos - the pasta was overcooked and burnt to the pan, not just crusty- but actually blackened and charred tasting. The seafood consisted of 3 lonely medium shrimp and 2-3 mussels. A sad representation of what is usually a magnificent alternative to paella. The staff did generously take this off the tab. Chocolate churros a must to finish off the meal.

What a nice surprise! This was a delightful Tapas restaurant and the plates were spot on. Everything was excellent. My personal favorite was the shrimp with garlic, the bacalao and the tortilla. The wine list could be extended. The Cava by the glass was not my favorite. Service was attentive and pleasant. Dishes come out super fast so you may want to regulate your time with your server. Compared to Jaleo, which I've been to on numerous occasions, the food here is exponentially superior. José Andrés may have over-extended himself in the number of restaurants he's opened and quality control is apparently not his forte. Check out Boqueria for some quality Tapas.

The all you can eat/ drink brunch was wonderful. Our waitress was attentive and explained the courses to us- we left it all in her hands and she brought out all the items on the menu. We had one vegetarian, and she was nice enough to make some of the options specially without meat on one portion. We arrived at 11 and it wasn't too busy, though by the time we left the inside and outside were both packed. Careful if you sit in the shade in the morning, by the afternoon it will be full-on sun.

good food, portion sizes were perfect for trying several and sharing with a friend. service was fantastic, the place was very busy but never felt neglected, server was young blonde woman who was perfectly pleasant and attentive. the white, bourbon peach sangria needed more alcohol - two of us had a pitcher plus another drink....lots of calories but no fuzzy feelings at all:) Only disappointment was the patatas bravas which is a favorite of mine, these were way over fried (pieces of potato were too small for the fryer) and not much sauce (should have been spicier).

They prefer you order all at once/at the beginning which is inconvenient.
