A word from Boqueria
Named for Barcelona's renowned food market, El Mercado de la Boqueria, Boqueria Washington, D.C.
features a seasonal ingredient-driven menu of expertly prepared tapas and regional Spanish cuisine under the direction of Barcelona native, chef Marc Vidal. Located on the corner of 19th and M, Boqueria offers residents and visitors of Washington D.C.'s bustling Dupont Circle neighborhood a taste of Barcelona. The restaurant is designed as a contemporary vision of
Barcelona's famed tapas bars and replicates the same look, feel, and flavor as its counterparts in New York City's Flatiron and Soho neighborhoods. In addition to the main dining room, Boqueria offers a private dining room as well as two semi-private dining areas and a seasonal outdoor patio.

Diner Reviews
  • "The quality of the tapas rivals Jeleo's. It's a great location for outside dining. Prices are reasonable. It's the second time my wife and I have been and we'll undoubtedly be back. The menu always offers something new."

  • "This was the best dining experience I've ever had in my life."

  • "Food was good, though not consistent across dishes. Service was good, not great. Great atmosephere. "

  • "Only slight was that is a bit noisy given low ceiling and hard surface finishes. Our group of 4 could barely hear each other. I imagine the patio outside wouldn't have this problem. Food was great with nice presentations and came out surprisingly fast."

  • "Had business lunch with tight time frame great service and varied tapas made for a business lunch with great food"

  • "We love Boqueria in SoHo so we thought we would try the one in DC. Still have to say we prefer Jose Andres' restaurants but this was a nice evening out. It was very loud (wish you guys would use different terms above - energetic implies a pleasant loudness) and made it difficult to talk. Also the tables are VERY close together but it is the same (if not closer) in NYC. Overall a good dinner."

  • "After enjoying food/drinks via our server John, the night came to a strange screeching halt halfway through our final tapa and drinks. Even though our server forgot to put our final order of tapas in, we liked him a lot until he discreetly slipped our check onto our table. 5 minutes later, when we asked if we could have another drink, he said, "Actually, I just got cut. I'll give the bartender a head's up though if you want to move over there." We glanced around the section we were in. It was 9:30pm and the tables around us were full. Thoroughly confused by the finale at Boqueria, we exited. Having worked in fine dining, we know that a server should never tell a guest they've been cut. Or boot them out of their section without warning."

  • "The restaurant was fairly quiet, probably because we were there on a Sunday night. It was great for talking. We started off the night with cocktails and enjoyed the shishto pepper maragarita a lot. Our server was attentive without being over bearing and helpful in determine how much to order. She clearly knew the menu fairly well and was able to answer all of our questions. We had a great time and will definitely be back."

  • "Each tapa we had was very well prepared and packed full of delicious, interesting flavors. I would happily order every dish we had again when I go back - very rare for a small plates restaurant. Service was friendly and efficient and food came out very quickly, always a nice surprise when visiting for a weekday lunch."

  • "Solid food quality (some were hits and some were misses), lively crowd, ambience was good as the restaurant was clean and upscale feeling without seeming too pretentious. good drinks. Decent for a tapas place."

  • "In our group there is a vegan and a vegetarian, I was happy when I looked at the menu and there were options to both my friends. We ordered the roasted peppers that were delicious and not too spicy. We had the patatas bravas that in my opinion are better than Jaleo and La Tasca. I had a table to cheese, it brought some jam and dried fruit. I appreciated that it has more than one option for you to pair your choice. Also, we had the the Alhambra Negra beer. That was on the highlights of the night. I did not know about it before and I loved it. For dessert, we had churros stuffed with nutella. Word of advice:They are very rich, is better if it is for more than one person."

  • "The bacon-wrapped dates were outstanding. The baby squid on the specials menu was also amazing. There is a great selection of sangria, including specials, that you can order individually or as a pitcher."

  • "It was my first time dining there and my friend and I had a good experience. The dishes were not especially imaginative, but they were well prepared and tasty. Good craft beer on draft. And our waiter was charming and attentive."

  • "The food is really authentic and very well done and presented. I found the service to be excellent, which was a challenge the night I went because the place was absolutely packed (it was a Saturday night). We'll be back , for sure."

  • "Great food and service makes this restaurant my go to place when friends come into town. Sharing delicious tapas and terrific wine make a visit to Boqueria more of a dining experience then just a meal. Keep up the great work! Must order items include: The tomatoe bread to start (even though it is not listed on the menu, ask for manchengo cheese on the bread). Any of the grilled squid items and the shrimp and garlic (make sure to order extra bread because you are going to want to dip into the yummy garlic, oil and lemon goodness)"

  • "A good friend of mine from London was staying with me, and she wanted to meet a friend for brunch. I had heard Boqueria had bottomless mimosa brunch, and that's always the best selling point for us! She came back (three hours later!) raving about it - great food, great drinks. Very pleased with every aspect of their experience. I've only been to Boq for lunch and dinner, but will definitely now try the brunch too! Thanks so much for taking care of my dear friend!"

  • "They don't want kids/babies at this restaurant. They don't have high chairs or booster seats and you don't find out until the day before when they confirm your 5:15 reservation (in which you stated you need one when you made it a week ago) that you had to hold with a credit card and they'll charge you if you cancel. So you either have to go and deal with your child unrestrained or cancel a dinner you've planned on for weeks, get charged, and your party of eight resort to a long wait who knows where because everybody knows you need a reservation for dinner on a Saturday night in DC. It really put a damper on the whole experience which is really too bad because the food was really good."

  • "We've eaten at Boqueria three times and loved it each time. The dishes are far more inventive and better executed than any other tapas restaurant in the DC region. The service is impeccable. The wine is good. We are serious foodies, and there are only a handful of restaurants we've found in DC that match Boqueria's combination of quality, originality and service. Huge crowds, but the kitchen and the wait staff don't miss a beat."

  • "Four of us went here for the bottomless brunch on Saturday morning. For $39, you get bottomless sangria, mimosas, or beer, as well as bottomless food. The food is great - awesome variety to choose from, with a Spanish flair. There's both breakfast and lunch food, as well as dessert. I highly recommend this place for brunch. The atmosphere was great; very modern. The outside patio looked like it would be really fun on a nice day - unfortunately, the day we went was not, but I'm excited to go back and try it."

  • "This was a great place to go with a group of friends. We had a fantastic table in the corner overlooking M street and it really added to the vibe. The food was good- not a lot of choices for vegans or those with dietary concerns. The sangria was different but very good! Overall, it was a really fun experience but a bit expensive for how much food I ended up actually eating."

  • "This was a great restaurant. Tapas were delicous - and pretty authentic They have a tomato on bread plate that is amazing - and totally unique dessert was delicous - had the nutella stuffed churros (although not that unique they were awesome) really fun atmosphere - would be great for a group of friends. Nice patio during nice weather. Lively neighborhood could walk somewhere for another drink after"

  • "We did the unlimited brunch and tried just about everything on the menu. It was all delicious!"

  • "We heard great things about the restaurant and were very excited for tapas, but the dishes were either a hit or miss. The wine, cheeses, embutidos, pan con tomate and croquetas were delicious but I can't say the same for the other dishes (seemed like the chef went overboard with salt, vinegar and lemon/lime juice."

  • "I went to Boqueria because my friend raved about it and it was close to my wife's workplace. My wife and I opted for sandwiches at lunchtime - the grilled lamb and another cheese - and they were delicious. The waiter recommended a refreshing romaine lettuce dish to start, but then we found that our dishes also came with salad and was a bit redundant. Finally we had the nutella churros because everyone seemed to recommend them in online reviews. Honestly, I must say I have had much better, cheaper churros off the street...in DC. The churros were cut into bite size portions and the ends were tapered making the texture inconsistent. The high stools were not very comfortable. The food is good, but the overall experience was only okay."

  • "I was exceptionally surprised by the quality and the dressing of the food. The service was perfect with plus a dynamic ambiance around. I would highly recommend this spot. If you are into wine, they have huge collection. You will certainly find your "coup de coeur"."

  • "A great place for brunch ! This was a great experience from start to finish, the food & service was top notch - can't wait to return. 5 stars !"

  • "I have been to Boqueria for both brunch and happy hour. Both have been wonderful experiences. It is difficult to find a spot at the bar during happy hour, and the specials are only available in the bar area, so that can be a challenge. However, the last time I was there we just sat at a table and it was not a big deal. The food is always delicious and they change sangria seasonally so there is always something fun to try! Brunch is also great--not as busy as their happy hour time, but delicious nonetheless. They have a $35 unlimited tapas and drinks, so it is a really great deal!"

  • "This place was fabulous. Wonderful scene, fun atmosphere. Great wine choices and the food was delicious, authentic Spanish tapas with a twist. We loved the tortilla, cheeses, butternut squash and peppers. 1 out of 20 were to be HOT and they were! You have to save room for the Nutella churros!"

  • "Restaurant has minimalist decor, decent and interesting small plates, but the noise is so overwhelming that you have to shout to have a conversation. The after work bar scene was really loud and animated. Its noise reverberated into the eating section, thereby adding to the appalling level of reflected sound."

  • "I strongly recommend you to try brunch menu when you go to the restaurant on Sunday. The cost is about $40 per person though, you can choose as many tapas and dessert as you want."

  • "If delicious, unique tapas in an elegant yet vibrant setting served by knowledgeable, enthusiastic staff is your thing, you owe it to yourself to try Boqueria. Can't say enough good things about it. The flank state, tortilla del dia, and (most importantly) the nutella-stuffed churros are not to be missed."

  • "My wife and I went to Boqueria on a Monday night so it didn't seem to be very busy based on the number of folks dining in the restaurant. However, for some reason our food took a long time to arrive from the kitchen. Since Boqueria does tapas we ordered about 7 small dishes to go with our bottle of wine. The first dish arrived shortly after we ordered it but the subsequent dishes were seriously delayed. The waitress was very apologetic and informed us that the kitchen was behind so that was the cause for our food being late. Soon after a few more of our dishes arrived and the waitress brought a complimentary dish to make up for the wait. One of the dishes we ordered never arrived so we cancelled it. Service was good but food wasn't."

  • "We wanted to try the Spanish tapas, but probably shouldn't have gone on Fri pm. Super loud music and bar scene made it hard to hear people at our table. Wait staff was good. Most food came promptly, though one tapa arrived after our check. Lamb skewers and cheese and meat plates were fantastic. Flatbread special and mushroom tapas the lows. All in all an interesting spot worth a try."

  • "Great food, great drinks, just watch out for the noise on a weekend night. The finglering potatoes are a must, but there wasn't anything that really missed."
