Diner Reviews
  • "I've been meaning to check out Bookstore Bar & Cafe for months...I'm a writer and I love bookstores, so I had really hyped this place up in my head. It didn't meet any of my expectations. The menu was pretty much all over the place, and wasn't particularly compelling. We had the mushroom and hazelnut "pate" and the fried chicken and waffles. The fried chicken was very good; the waffle was bland and boring, the gravy was odd and didn't add much. The "pate" didn't have much flavor (the tomato spread on top had more flavor than the pate itself!). The service was slow, despite a nearly empty dining room, and we thought the drinks were quite expensive--and very heavy on whiskey. And absolutely zero play on the bookstore theme, which was sad!"

  • "I was meeting a friend for breakfast and when deciding between options, we chose Bookstore because they took reservations and my friend had a positive experience the last time she went there and I'd never been. When my friend arrived, she waited a pretty long time before being greeted - it seemed like they were short staffed. Then when we finally got our table, our server took a very long time to come out and was downright sour - each time we had an interaction it took a few reminders and a long wait to get to the next step (menus, ordering, coffee refills, the check, etc.). The food wasn't great - some things were overcooked, and the winter squash and kale was very bitter. Disappointing- hopefully it was just one day, not "the usual"."

  • "Good service, great environment for groups. No gratuity for party of 8+, separate bills made individual billing efficient."

  • "Love the renovated space and new menu - I ordered the grilled veggie/chevre/pesto sandwich with fries, and it was delish!"

  • "My boyfriend and I hit the Bookstore Bar and Cafe at 11:30am on a Saturday. Granted, it's not quite tourist season yet, but the place was quiet and relaxed - just like what you find in a Seattle neighborhood. Fantastic food - I had the eggs with toast, potatoes and chicken sausage and my boyfriend had a plate of beautifully displayed French-toast. The Americanos were great as well as the service. We will definitely go back regularly."

  • "We love the ambience and decoration, however, the food was off par. We selected The Bookstore Bar & Cafe because we wanted something simple and with easy access to get to during lunch. Our food took over 30 minutes to be prepared for a party of 7, and it was not up to par. Two of my colleagues ordered burgers and it was extremely dry. The fries were good, but no seasoning on the meat and it was dry. Sad. "

  • "we ate in the dining room which was excellent for conversation. the bacon jam appetizer was okay but not spectacular. the fried chicken and waffle were tasty, but the ginger soy gravy was tasteless. the clam chowder was a wow because the tiny shells were in the bowl. it was thinner than I usually would prefer, but the flavor was very good. the kale salad topped with ahi tuna was very good. the coconut panna cotta was too thick and did not have a strong coconut flavor. the flourless chocolate cake was dense and yummy. unfortunately, the two strawberries were probably previously frozen. the whipped cream was delicious. the apple crumb had a oatmeal (?) topping which should have been a flour/butter/sugar mix."

  • "Place as awesome ambiance but the service was awful. We ended up with the wrong salad, my soup (supposed to be my entree) and her entree all at the same time. No pacing at all. When they brought the wrong salad, the waiter didn't even apologize, he just rolled his eyes and went to get the correct one. When we told the manager, he said "the least he could do" was give us a free glass of wine. Yes, that was indeed the LEAST you could do... the food didn't even end up being that amazing. I do know these guys recently re-opened in this location but this was pretty bad."

  • "The food was good but they were unclear about happy hour offerings. (If they're only available in the bar they should say so on their website or when you make a reservation!) It was also INCREDIBLY loud and the staff seemed a little bit overworked."

  • "A group of three of us had lunch here recently. The service and ambiance were wonderful. One of us ordered the tuna steak special really liked the meal. The other two of us were disappointed in our choices: burger and fish and chips. On a previous visit to the Library Bistro, we all loved what we had ordered."

  • "We went to the Bookstore Bar & Cafe after they were completed with their renovation and expansion. I had never had brunch here until now. We were here to celebrate my wife's birthday with a bunch of friends. The food was absolutely delicious. I had a wild mushroom crepe that was wonderful. The service was great... our waters were refilled regularly and everyone had plenty to eat and drink. I'm totally coming back."

  • "It took around 30mins for our wine to turn up, and for the staff to take our food order, even with a "I'll be right back" 20 mins earlier. The only reason they came is because I had to get up and ask for.attention. One could excuse that with a busy night, poor training or whatever, but then the food was lackluster and therefore overpriced. They didn't even try to recover that much - they went through the motions, but it was almost as if they didn't care."

  • "We had our anniversary dinner at this lovely restaurant this week. Although it seemed that they were short on staff, our server was friendly and efficient, while maintaining a casual demeanor. The food was excellently prepared. I especially liked the mussels au pistou, a dish of fresh mussels in a well-seasoned pesto sauce."

  • "A unique place for a holiday brunch and to linger and talk. Cozy booths, lots of atmosphere, attentive service, and good food."

  • "On Christmas day service was slow and forgetful. I had the sense -and I could be mistaken- that the experienced "senior" service was given the holiday off and either bus persons or other inexperienced staff were on duty. Hotel restaurants that do not primarily serve businessmen are typically slow on breakfast service, so when they are slower than slow customer frustration ensues."

  • "Wait staff friendly, accommodating, attentive without hovering. Ambience comfortable, welcoming yet very fine. Like dining in someone's home library/ den. Booths provide comfortable private spaces. Food varied, healthy and excellently prepared."

  • "For the past two years our family has met up here for a holiday brunch before attending the Nutcracker at McCaw Hall. Library Bistro is a lovely spot with a great menu, and it's quiet enough that we can all hear each other. Last year the service was spot-on, but this year the food took forever to come, despite the restaurant being less than half-full, and the service was less than attentive (the server checked back with us once after the food arrived, but there was no ongoing replenishment of water and coffee, despite our being there for an hour and a half). We plan to have brunch there again next year, in hopes the service problem was a rare lapse, and not an ongoing problem."

  • "went for brunch before the game. waited almost 5 mins before anyone came to seat us. It was clear the were understaffed took long time for food to get to us. The server kept apologizing for the delay and ended up comping us a drink but we sat for a long time just waiting not seeing anyone. They were out of our first choice, second choice food was not cooked sufficiently and cool when it got to the table. Seemed like everything was off from the moment we got there."

  • "We had breakfast at the Library Bistro before a Seahawks game. There were several other diners going to the game as well. The food was well prepared and presented. Portions were average size. Don't expect an "all you can eat" buffet experience. The service was excellent. The real gem here is the atmosphere. Quiet and very comfortable. It feels more like a home than a restaurant. We are planning to go back for a romantic dinner. Highly recommended."

  • "This was an excellent location for brunch prior to attending a Seahawks game. It's a little further away from the stadium than some of the other restaurants but is still an easy walk to the game. The service was good and the food was good."

  • "We decided to give this place a try since we always heard good things about it. The bistro was nicely decorated and our server was a super nice guy but food was a different story. we had to send our food back because part of it was over cooked and some of it was still alive! Our server was graceful about it but the staff in the kitchen must have not been doing well because the dish came out a huge mess for the 2nd time. It's same to say we are not going back there again."

  • "The food was beautifully prepared and very tasty. It was a Monday lunch with friends from Australia whom I hadn't seen in 2 years. We had a 12:30 reservation and stayed talking until 5:00! The waitstaff graciously let us stay long past closing time, with never a hint that we should leave. They even left the lights on in our section, while turning them off in the rest of the restaurant. Their thoughtfulness was much appreciated!"

  • "A very nice, quietly elegant space, decorated like someone's private library. Some thoughtfully different things on the brunch menu, such as a jam made of bacon and creme fraiche served on an English muffin."

  • "Usually the food sells me on a place. This time it was the service, which was absolutely attentive, but not overbearing, friendly, but not obnoxious - it was perfect for breakfast service. The setting is calm and quaint. Not too big, but not too small. Comfy booths to read the paper and spread out. The good was fine - nothing spectacular. The quiche was tasty, but could have been more full of stuff (in my case mushrooms, ham, cheddar). The beignets were a bit over fried, but who doesn't love a little bit of sweet tasty fried thing in the morning??!?? The potatoes were excellent! I would definitely go back if staying in the hotel - but wouldn't make a trip of it."

  • "Located in the upscale Alexis Hotel, The Library Bistro provided a wonderful spot for my party of 6 to have Father's Day brunch. It's large enough to accomodate groups, and I loved the decor of feeling like you're nestled amongst someone's extensive library of books. Normally I go for a louder, more vibrant brunch place with friends; but this restaurant was perfectly suited for a family outing because the atmosphere was more conducive to talking (instead of shouting) and catching up. We did run into one hiccup--the kitchen forgot to make my latte--but the server eventually realized the issue. She thanked me for waiting and said it would be complimentary. I would say the food was not life-changing, but everyone did enjoy their meal."

  • "I can't remember when I had such a strong negative reaction to a dining experience. Salad was the size of a side and one was overdressed, the other under. Burgers served plain, dry and overcooked. Asked for mayo, told no, just aoli, requested the aoli which arrived just in time of the last bite. Service was sporadic at best which was odd since not many diners. Meal was served at different time so those that had salad for lunch were almost done by the time the burgers arrived. Lots of choices downtown, we'll be making other choices next time."

  • "Took my wife and daughter to Library Bistro for Mother's Day Brunch. The food was good, the atmosphere was nice, the service was excellent, and the bloody mary's were superb. My only complaint is the food took a while to get served but the staff kept us in mimosa and coffee."

  • "Enjoyed a lovely Mother's Day brunch here. I didn't realize the restaurant was located in a hotel when making our reservation through Open Table. But I'm so glad we dined here. The ambience was lovely, and the Sunday brunch menu options were fabulous. We all loved our meals. Service was attentive, but I gave it a lower rating because it took quite awhile for our meals to be served. Nonetheless, we really enjoyed our brunch here and I'd happily return again!"

  • "We took my mom there for Mother's Day, she and I have some food allergies that are workable. The resturarant was not going accommodate us. With that said, it left us with 1/4 of the menu. It was a little disappointing. We very rarely have this problem and will not be back."
