We did the research and we drove almost two hours round trip to eat here.We have nothing like this in San Francisco; it was our one night and we dined on great food. Chef Bonnell was at everyone's table. He is a blend of warm greeter and talented executive chef. The kitchen runs like a clock so he can meet and greet.. Our wait staff was well versed in all things Bonnell as well. I hope when he comes to California, he let's me cook for him. Enjoy a foine and uniques experience; elk tacos, dijon crusted lamb with spicy mac and cheese, ostrich and jalepeno mashed potatoes, bison and other wonderful choices. with a Oregon Pinot. Really lovely."

  • "We were looking for a restaurant to properly celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary and found Bonnell's. We had a short wait at the bar and some fun drink recommendations by the bartender. Once we were seated, the service was prompt and our appetizers arrived in good time. We decided on a sampler with bite sized tastes of some of their more popular items. My wife then ordered the lamb and I had the red snapper. both were well prepared and a delight to eat. The ambiance was somewhat noisy, but that might just be because they were quite busy. We finished with a creme brulee and a dessert sampler that put a cherry on top of an already satisfying meal. I would definitely recommend Bonnell's to anyone looking for fine food and grand service."

I don't feel like the value is there as compared to other high end restaurants in the area. It feels like $10 to $15 per entrée too heavy. That's why we go once a year instead of making it a more frequent stop on our fine dinning list..."

  • "An excellent dining experience at Bonnell's, highly recommended. Crab cakes were out of this world. Dinner was Elk tenderloin, it almost melted in the mouth. The mushrooms were very flavorful and had the chipotle mashed potatoes which were very spicy, but accented the meal very good. The breads and butter sauces were also a great highlight of the meal. It was a Birthday celebration and they really went out of their way to make it special, the chocolate cake was a huge hit with everyone. I had the apple crisp, I must say it may have been the best desert I have ever had. Jon Bonnell was a delight to chat with at our table, very personal dining experience - Thanks so much, I know our entire table was very satisfied!"

  • "I had the cocoa rubbed filet and it was juicy and cooked great but lacked the flavor and simple seasoning that you get from a seasoned grill. It's was the highest quality grain feed beef just lacked the flavor for that great of quality meat in my humble opinion. I can say the same about the au gratin potatoes. Just no seasoning for me. I would for sure go there again."

Service was great, however we requested a booth and the only booths were in the bar so it was a bit noisy. The wine list had something for everyone and was reasonable. I noticed the chef was in the bar chatting with some of the regular customers. Overall a great experience"

  • "Greeting and seating was friendly and efficient, food was brilliantly prepared and tasted great. Minimum interaction with wait staff in regard to explanations and recommendations. Not much of a difference between ordering here or at any restaurant. Zero follow-up on all courses at table, I had to ask for bread and it didn't make it out until salads were finished. Waitperson was not around to refill waters, pour wine or generally do their job in this type of restaurant. I probably would have had a second bottle of wine if someone had asked. I mentioned it was my wife's 60th birthday and we got no reaction."

  • "We went to celebrate our daughters 17th birthday. Server was nice but had body odor and also had to be asked to bring things mulitple times. Food quality was good but not the normal excellent I would rate it. Maybe an off night….they didn't tell our daughter happy birthday or anything. Noted in our reservation it was a birthday for our 17 yr old. She specifically picked this restaurant for her birthay dinner.Always loved Bonnell's but maybe its slipping."

  • "This place was recommended to me by a local co-worker when I was in town to meet a client for dinner - the client was from Houston, I am from Chicago so we didn't know the area very well. I wasn't sure what to expect. The food was FANTASTIC, I had the special, "boar tenderloin" I argued with the server that she brought me the wrong dish by mistake, It was better than steak! The side of asparagus was the best I've ever had. The staff and the owner/chef were very friendly and provided excellent service. The wine list is outstanding, the host recommended a fantastic bottle to accompany our dinner. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "We have been wanting to dine at Bonnell's for over a year. My main objective when I found this restaurant was excellent nutrition. We had read on the eatwild website that Burgundy Beef (100% grassfed) is one of their suppliers. I like that they list the farms and other sources of their foods, even seafood. Most of these are very local, another plus. The game/hunting atmosphere was nice too. The food and staff were fantastic!"

  • "My wife and I went to Bennell's for the first time for our Valentines celebration, and it could not have been any better. The staff was incredibly attentive and personable and the food was quite frankly, the best we had ever eaten. Since it was Valentines, the menu was limited, but I couldn't have ordered any better myself. It was a great touch having reataurant managent stop by the table to chat and give my wife a rose, and Jon Bonnell himself also stopped by to ensure everything was satisfactory. We will defintely be back!"
