Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I joined another couple for dinner at Bonnell's last Saturday evening and had a great time. The reservation was ready and we were seated immediately upon arrival. The timing on the service of food was perfect, with just enough time for everyone to finish that course and have a minute or two of conversation before the next course arrived. The food, itself, was excellent! Everything was cooked to perfection, seasoned so well that no one ever touched a salt or pepper shaker, and so flavorful that we are still talking about it and planning our next visit. Add to all this the fact that the owner, Mr. Bonnell, himself, stopped by our table to see how everything was going and you have a night to remember!"

  • "Life interrupted our plans for the big six -o party but after a three year delay, we made the party a reality at a place sister had never been. And she was thrilled. The food was great, the ambiance perfect, her two brothers and her daughter all around the table. The buffalo was as tender as a beef-filet, the culinary connoisseur spouse's halibut perfect in her mind. And we all made a beautiful memory and knew how happy our late mother was looking down on her loved little brood still together."

  • "During Restaurant week, our experience has been that most restaurants of this caliber put their best foot forward. I sincerely hope this was not Bonnell's best foot. They had no rare or medium rare prime rib (and our seating was at 6:15). Vegetables were ordinary. The trio of deserts were not exceptional. The worst surprise came when we tried to pay our bill with gifted debit cards. The waitress took one look and said those won't work. We asked her to try. She was back too quickly to have tried very hard with the same report - they won't work. So we used our credit cards and left on a sour note. We later learned from another restaurant worker that the cards have to be run as credit cards, which she did not bother to find out."

  • "The choices very limited. Meat too smokey for my taste. Server made error on charge for lunch, charged double. This was corrected. Doubtful I will return."

  • "Me, my boyfriend and another couple went to Bonnell's for restaurant week. The options they had available for restaurant week were varied. We had the smoked Prime Rib which was really good as were the horseradish mashed potatoes they paired with it. Our service was great. She was attentive but not hovering. The dessert trio was great! Just the right amount of sweets."

  • "We visited Bonnell's during restaurant week and enjoyed the smoked prime rib and blackened drum. Both were excellent and the dessert sampler was wonderful, but the tres leches creme brûlée was a standout!!! We highly recommend and will return!!!"

  • "Bonnell's just seems to find ways to continually improve."

  • "We had the Rib Eye and Quail which both were delicious!!! The fried grits was wonderful, like the fried avocado we had last year."

  • "Dining is always excellent! While my husband chooses the wild game, I go for the fresh seafood - often Texas freshwater fish. I am a big fan of the chipotle grits and flourless chocolate cake with amaretto. Most of the wait staff has been there for years. Sheila is suberb. The atmosphere is southwest classic. Always my "go to" place when I want a fine meal. Lunches are special too!"

  • "Delicious! And a bonus that it was Restaurant Week in Fort Worth -- which we did not know about until the waiter told us about it."

  • "We took my father to Bonnell's for his birthday. It was excellent! Not only was the food excellent, but the service was impeccable. If you go before December, be sure to ask for Berenice. She is awesome!! This is not the place to go if you are on a tight budget, but, for special occasions, the experience is well worth it!"

  • "I hosted visitors from France and Brazil (party of 3) at Bonnell's on a recent weeknight. Both were impressed with the food and ambiance. I had the butterfish as an entree and a fish gumbo to start. The butterfish was prepared and presented perfectly. Service was attentive and helpful, but never abrupt or intrusive. A wonderful evening at a wonderful place."

  • "We were celebrating my wife's birthday, and could not have picked a better place to dine. Barbara was our server/waitress. She was so much help in choosing appetizers and entrees to suit our tastes. Will definitely go back...and ask for Barbara again."

  • "If you're looking for a delicious 5 star restaurant w/unusual food selections, this is your place! My Elk tenderloin was Fabulous & tender. Our compliments to the Chef & Bonnell's complete staff. Joel was a very attentive & friendly waiter!"

  • "My wife and I went for dinner to celebrate our 46th anniversary. We were cheerfully greeted by the hostess and young lady at the front and were seated right away. You can enjoy a conversation at this restaurant. The service provided by the waitress was exemplary. She was attentive and cheerful. The food, sides and bread were delicious. The only one minor criticism that we have is that the salad that accompanied the lamb tenderloin was much to lemony/tangy and did not go well with the main dish. It actually detracted from it. I left it alone after a couple of bites. The dessert sampler and the apple crisp were delicious. Would we recommend this place to others. YES we would. Would we return, YES we will."

  • "Bonnell's has been one of my favorite Fort Worth restaurants since I moved here in 2003. The wine list is extensive and excellent. The food is always delicious and the tres leches creme brulee is to die for. However, on my last visit as a part of a group of 8, the waitress was subpar and would vanish for long stretches of time. She failed to bring all of our food so we simply cancelled one of the vegetables we ordered. In addition, I had to order our dessert from someone else. Very disappointing but still a great place."

  • "This is one of those times finds that will keep you coming back again and again, even if it’s just to see what chef has up his sleeve for that night. The food was outstanding and the wine list was very good. You get what you pay for here so don’t come expecting a $30 meal. This place is for someone wanting a dining experience with impeccable food from a Fort Worth tradition. I would compare this to Tim Loves The Lonesome Dove in the stockyards. We had the Elk and Bison filets and they were prepared to perfection and melted in our mouths. If you haven’t treated yourself to some good food lately, this would be a great place to leave your cell in the car and reconnect with your loved ones and friends."

  • "I have lived in Fort Worth all my life and my family owns a restaurant here. Next to the family restaurant, Bonnells truly has the most exceptional food. The buffalo was amazing and the venison carpaccio was divine. Great wine list as well. I'm looking forward to going back!"

  • "Went to Bonnell's for a special occasion. Every aspect of our visit was wonderful. Had samplers of all the food because it all looked so good that we wanted to try it all. And everything from the soup and elk tacos appetizer through the dessert sampler was excellent. And the service was first rate (Thanks Sheila). The entire staff called us by name and recognized our special occasion that I had noted on my Open Table reservation. Very classy move on the behalf of the Bonnell's staff. Made quite an impression. Would recommend this as a place to go with friends, clients or just a nice get-away dinner for two."

  • "I took my wife here for our anniversary and we really enjoyed our experience. Amazing food, a wonderful staff and the overall ambience will definitely merit more meals here in the future. I would definitely recomdnd Bonnell's to anyone looking to impress friends/family/customers with a great meal in a Fort Worth."

  • "A good experience was had by all, only gripe was that the Oysters were served lukewarm and the crab cakes actually came out cold"

  • "Food was great as was the service. I would visit again."

  • "Bonnell's specialty is expertly prepared exotic game food - elk, buffalo, quail, but 'ordinary' foods like fried calamari, and even the salad were very well done and a cut above a regular fine dining restaurant. Attentive but not intrusive service and a fine and quiet dining atmosphere complete the picture. The price range is a bit above average, but not excessive given the quality and exotic food. The one weak spot - the parking lot is a bit small."

  • "Celebrated Fathers Day with our girls. They love the Venison Carpaccio. We missed seeing Jon there. The restaurant seemed a little bit more hectic when he isn't there. We were there for mothers day also and the mood was a little more calm. One entrée was not described accurately and therefore when it came out was not what we preferred, but the staff quickly rectified the situation, by offering another entrée which was to our liking."

  • "From greeting to bar to tableside service, Bonnell's has it covered. We received excellent service our entire visit and the drinks and food were very good. Whether you are craving an adventurous new meal, or desiring a classic we would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a great dining experience."

  • "Everything about this restaurant is first rate. Decor is great, service is great, food is exceptional. Prices are reasonable considering what you get and clearly the attention to detail is laser focused. Would recommend the 4 sampler appetizers, buffalo and elk entrees and a local Texas wine. Can't go wrong with redfish, either. Worth every penny."

  • "A very nice dinner and tasty restaurant. Service was excellent - very attentive but not intrusive. Well-timed and friendly. Overall price was a bit much (but we anticipated it and were not surprised). The food was delicious - our small group had the cocoa rubbed filet, quail and the chile relleno. Desserts were creme brule and the margarita key lime pie. Everything was excellent. Wine list was pricey but very expansive. "

  • "The experience we had was nothing short of amazing. From the food to the service to the company we shared. Everything was perfect. We were able to order something that we would not ordinarily cook at home and we can't wait to go back."

  • "We treated friends to a celebration lunch at Bonnell's. It was very successful. The surroundings are lovely; the food --every morsel delicious; the service is courteously attentive, knowledgeable about all dishes, never hovering but always available. Some restaurants with exceptional food and lovely walls would think it warranted snobishness----not Bonnell's. The appetizers are so good it is hard to get to the entree. Bottom line: we will be there often."

  • "It's everything we expected: Good Southern hospitality & rich delicious foods. We are from Plano & it took us an hour to get there. Unfortunately, due to the distance we do not think we will be returning unless we are already in the neighborhood. "

  • "The service was very good. However, the food was mediocre for the price. This is a restaurant that my wife and I usually enjoy very much. My wife ordered the Ostrich and could not eat it. It was overcooked and tough. I ordered the Buffalo ribeye and honestly I have had a better steak at Saltgrass. I like my steak marbled but the fat content in this particular piece of meat was unbelieveable and it was also overcooked as well. I will say that the chipotle mashed potatoes were quite tasty so there were glimmers of hope with the meal but overall it was mediocre. We had the Elk tacos as an appetizer and they were relatively tasteless but the grits they were served on were quite tasty."

  • "A very nice dining experience! This was our first time to the restaurant, and we brought family to enjoy a celebratory meal of a birthday. The service was very nice, the environment was friendly and accommodating, and the food was wonderful. The tables are set far enough apart from each other that it is easy to have a conversation and not be bothered by other tables. The meal was well prepared and very tasty. The flow of service was appropriate and nothing felt rushed."
