All of the courses were excellent as was the main man Christophe who took care of us throughout the evening.   • "Ambience was great. Service was very good. Maitre d' took full responsibility for two bottles of red wine that had to be sent back due to secondary fermentation. Food was only fair. In fairness, our table all ate from the Table D'hote which was very reasonable at about $35/person. The a la carte menu was much more extensive and expensive and perhaps this is where you have to go if you want to taste the kind of food you would expect from such a well-respected restaurant. With so many outstanding restaurants in Montreal, the food simply did not cut it and despite the other desirable characteristics of Bonaparte, we will likely not return."

  • "We had a great meal. Two different tasting menus (actually good value) on the same table. Highlights, mushroom ravioli, sole, veal, terrine. Saturday night was busy and at one point the food service was slow - the waiter came with a glass of champagne for us all and that saw us through very well. Will definitely go back when looking for a good meal in the old port."

  • "Overall the evening was great. The service was excellent, knowledgeable wait staff, attentive also. Room was upscale, and we had a great table with a nice view of Old Montreal. The food was very good, and really the only complaints we had were that the smoked salmon in one of the dishes was a little too salty, as well as one of the fish dishes was a little salty for the person who ordered it. The lobster bisque was great, the crème brulee foie gras was exceptional, the warm goat chese in filo, was also a hit. For the mains, the duck, lamb, and fillet mignon were all done perfectly, the only miss was the dover sole."

  • "The food here was outstanding as was the service to detail. We chose the tasting. We started with Lobster Bisque & Crispy Goat cheese & salad. Both full of flavor. Next up was the Creme Brulee of Foie Gras & Escargots & mushrooms. Both outstanding. Mains were Lamb Rack & Filets of Dover Sole. Really nice. From there we did the symphony of desserts, which consists of small tastings of their desserts. Very nice. Portions are a bit small, but this is a tasting. For larger portions, just "choose" Al a Carte. We do plan on dining here again upon our return. Many restaurants in the "Old Port" are more or less tourist traps. This place was truley outstanding,as many reviews will point out."

  • "We had a great moment at this restaurant for my girlfriends birthday. We were very well received. We took the degustation menu and all meals were awesome. The timing for the servicing was perfect, not too short not too long. The only deception was the desert for the degustation menu which was really good but not as good and impressive as of the rest of the meals."

  • "We returned to the Bonaparte nearly 10 years after our last visit, and it was everything, and more, that we remembered. The mushroom stuffed ravioli appetizer were paper thin - the lightest past I've ever tasted. The Dover sole was exquisite, and the lobster (in a vanilla-Muscat sauce) with a "swirl" of pasta was an unusual preparation that married all the flavors together. The wine list included some much appreciated half-bottles. Our waiter, Jason, was knowledgable and very helpful. Can't say enough good things about the Bonaparte. JUST GO."

  • "The ambiance in the restaurant is not my favorite - it feels a bit like a high-end (older) hotel restaurant. The nice aspect is that it's not loud. But, it's certainly not a hip restaurant. Nevertheless, the food is outstanding! The fois-gras in particular was amazing (as were the scallops). The creme brulet was also lovely. For the quality of the food you get, the price is very reasonable. The portions were perfect - given that there were several courses, they were not too big, but, not pathetic. I left feeling very satisfied. The service was very attentive, but, not intrusive. Definitely a lovely meal."

  • "Dined at Bonaparte in late June. We began with a glass of Chardonnay that tasted like vinegar. The onion soup was delicious. We had two different entrees, one with scallops and the other with filet mignon. Both were tasteless. The dessert, purportedly a key lime pie topped with merengue was strictly so, so. My sense is that Bonaparte has had its day."

  • "We were party of 6, and had placed a reservation several weeks in advance asking for a quiet spot. We're placed in middle of large room that was very noisy. Food was very good with lovely wine list. Service was unacceptably slow; 45 minutes before our order was taken, and 4 hours before dessert. Had to request twice that our server come and update us. A great meal ended up being completely overshadowed by unacceptably slow service. Often hard to hear due to noise."

  • "It was quite busy the night we were there with a large (and unfortunately loud) group of 20+ arriving just ahead of us, but while our waiter was busy between that group and a few other tables besides our own, the other wait staff did a good job of checking by and filling in the gaps. The food was quite good, the rooms well appointed, and the standard of service admirable, with the only detraction coming from that group's noise level (at no fault of the restaurant). I would return, but hopefully on a quieter evening."

  • "Perfect choice for my son's graduation! We had taken him here last year and this was his wish for graduation dinner. The restaurant was surprisingly quiet, but I believe it was because the Canadiens were playing hockey that evening. The service and food were exceptional!! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to enjoy a great meal. My son chose the 5 course pre-fixe. The rest of our group chose the 3 course pre-fixe which we all thoroughly enjoyed - and we fely was quite a value. My son's filet mignon was prepared perfectly. I had the bison stew which was outstanding. If you have a chance to go here - DON'T miss it!"

  • "Great location, good food, but nothing extraordinary. I wood expect more creativity from established French restaurant. We tried menu inspired by Josephine and weren't impressed. Service is lacking for a four star French restaurant. We waited 5 minutes for the waiter and menus after we were seated. Also, the table wasn't combed for crumbs between courses, which is in my book is inexcusable for any real French restaurant. "

  • "I was looking for a supper spot where my friend and I could catch up, hear ourselves talk AND enjoy good food. All of this was possible at Bonaparte. The food was very good (warm goat cheese/foie gras crème brulee as entrées and breast of duck with syrup and berries/filet mignon with brandy and peppercorns). We were seated by the window which was very pleasant. Service was good with my only comment being one I had read about prior to booking..our server changed shifts and didn't tell us someone else would be taking over..as a courtesy, I feel we should be informed when told a new server is taking over from the original server."

  • "We enjoy trying new restaurants and choose from a variety of cultural and classic cuisines, and price ranges. Bonaparte has always been an old favorite of ours--especially since Les Halles closed its doors (so sad!!). The atmosphere is very classic--not trendy or edgy, but the food remains consistently delicious and impeccably prepared and served...not too many restaurants can say that! They always feature seasonal items (this time maple syrup was featured as it was maple season), and everything was incredibly fresh and tasty. Wait staff all seemed new & young this time, so the service was not as "tight" as in the past (but still good--they make an effort to please!!). "
