This turned out to be great evening meal and dining experience on our recent visit to DC. We are British expats and enjoy Indian food but we have been deeply disappointed with the food served in most of US Indian restaurants we have tried. We are very pleased to say that the Bombay Club is easily the "best in class" and would have no hesitation in recommending it to fans of good Indian food. Friendly staff and classy ambience made for a very good evening. Be sure to try the Bombay Club gin and tonic - as far as I know this is a unique spicy aperitif!

As a Rasika fan, I thought the Bombay Club would be a good second choice. When we arrived for our 7:45 reservation we were not seated until 8, despite visibly open tables. Our waiter was extremely slow and unfriendly-- far more attentive to the larger party next to us. The kale chaat was an EXCELLENT appetizer, as good if not better than Rasika's palak chaat. But the brussel's sprouts I ordered as a vegetarian dish were nothing special and the portion of naan was extremely small. The blueberry pudding the waiter recommended for dessert was not particularly good either. The decor and atmosphere of the restaurant was nice. Overall the food was only average and the service was poor. I'd order the kale chaat to go.

The Bombay Club is an elegant restaurant that harkens back to colonial India. See *A Passage to India*, and you'll know what I mean. The food, however, though tasty, did not live up to the hype of the Washingtonian's review. If you're a regular patron at ethnic restaurants, you may have discovered that, in the US, Thai, Indian, and other cuisines have been toned down for the so-called unsophisticated American palate. For example, Thai is less spicy (hot), and in this case, Indian is less spicy (spices). The flavors at The Bombay Club are fine, and many folks will find the food delicious, but I have eaten much more interesting Indian food in this area -- plates full of vigorous spices bursting with all that India has to offer.

This was our third time there. We made reservations in advance. After realizing we would be late called and changed our time. We were still 5 minutes late and they accomdated us. Staff is friendly and knowledgable concerning their menu. If they offer the sticky toffee cake on the menu please try it!

We tried to get into Rasika on Sunday night but it's closed, so we opted for Bombay Club. It was very good. We asked our waiter to deliver some of his favorite dishes, since some in our party had never tasted Indian food. We got a really nice array of appetizers, including shrimp, samosa, lamb sausage (my favorite) and crispy kale - delicious. For our meal we each had tandoori salmon which was without a sauce and perfectly cooked., and a small lamb chop which was served with a cilantro and mint sauce - tangy and spicy. The meal was wonderful - a small caveat - bring a sweater - the air conditioning was relentless!

So, I've been to Bombay club often over the years and the service/food quality is going down. When I got there on time for the reservation I was told that it will be 15-20 minutes till I get seated. There is no contrition for the fact that I have a reservation and still have to wait like I just walked in. You expect at least a "I apologize but we are running behind with our other guests" kind of courtesy. None of that. Then we get to the bar and the bartender is goofing off. They see us and there is no acknowledgement such as "I'll be with you in a moment." We were the only people at the bar. The food was cold when it arrived and the waiter didn't know how to pronounce any of the dishes. Seriously gone downhill.

This is not that expensive considering it is a DC classic. The decor is beautiful, & there is a piano player who plays standards from musical theatre as well as Billie Jean! Very busy on a Friday. We got there early, & had pleasant drinks from the bar. Then, we were guided to an elegant table right in the middle of everything, great for people watching. The menu, besides containing some exciting items (all that we ordered was excellent!), is very careful to note what is spicy (or VERY spicy) & what (very important for me) has nuts in it. Our waitress was very helpful, & even allowed me to order two half entrees when I wasn't sure if I could handle the spicy green chile curry (I could, but probably a half portion was wise). Would recommend!

My son and I enjoyed the menu containing a range of Indian dishes. We shared the crab appetizer... simply delicious. It was light enough to order one for yourself without filling up. I ordered the traditional silver platter with three different meats... fantastic. I enjoyed sampling all the different flavors. My son ordered the Lamb Vindaloo which was spicy as advertised and he loved it. I tried it too and would have enjoyed ordering that one as well. Recommend ordering extra Naan bread as soon as dinner is served, you will need it to soak up all the tasty sauces. Service was top-notch. We will be back.

This is my tenth visit to the Bombay Club, at least, and the worst experience I've had. There was a large wedding reception which bathed the restaurant in noise. I couldn't hear the person directly across the table from me at a table for four. It was fun for people-watching, but not for visiting with our guests.

I was excited to try this restaurant given all the good reviews. The food and ambiance did not disappoint. I just wish the service had been more welcoming and gracious. I was eating alone - which I've done many times - but at this restaurant I definitely felt out of place. The waitstaff was gruff and unwelcoming - I have experienced better service at my local Indian restaurant in Brooklyn. Still, the food and ambiance of the restaurant are great; the acoustics are good and you can actually have a conversation. I would go back - but it would be great of the waitstaff would take the hint that solo diners are people, too.

We ate here for the first time to celebrate our anniversary. Overall it was a fine experience. The food was good, the service was understated and the ambiance was nice. My only quibble would be that the pace of dinner was quite fast. Maybe because we did not order an appetizer, but we did order a bottle of wine, two thalis and dessert, and we were done in just over an hour.

The Bombay Club is class all the way, from the waiters to the ambiance to the decor. The food was great, although a little on the spicy side. And I mean it was so spicy my wife and I drank gallons of water and ate 14 loaves of naan during dinner. Not sure if the heat index was on the menu (it probably was and we missed it), but it would be a good idea to watch out for this. beyond this, we loved it.

Went to Bombay Club for my husband's birthday. I had the Bombay (vegetarian) thali, which was overall delicious and an excellent value. My husband had the seafood mixed grill, which he loved. Food and atmosphere were perfect and service was very good. When I made the reservation thru Open Table, I asked if they could bring a dessert with a candle for my husband's birthday. They remembered and brought a festive mocktail with sorbet and a candle on top. They did it very quietly so my husband wasn't embarrassed and the piano player switched subtlely to playing Happy Birthday. They made the occasion very special and my husband loved it. They have a nice assortment of wine too.

Took my wife and son (visiting from the West Coast) for dinner. The food was supurb (tandori chicken and salmon for the parents). The service is just attentive enough so someone is ready to stroll over with water or drink refills; but not so that it's cloying or distracting. The tables are far enough apart so conversations are not easily overheard (a must in Washington, DC). Highly recommmended

The noise level was so loud that I literally could not hear myself think. At a table for two, it was impossible to carry on a conversation with my dinner companion - we could not hear each other, even when shouting. Nor could we hear the waiter. The people at tables near us were yelling at each other and the piano music was totally lost in the din. This type of noise I expect in a bar, not in a fine restaurant. Within 15 minutes, both of us had such a headache from the noise that we left. We found another Indian restaurant a few blocks away where we had an excellent meal in a relaxed and SERENE setting at half the cost.

Putting aside owner Ashok's other Indian jewels (the Rasikas), the Bombay Club is still the standard for quality Indian cooking in Washington. The "raj" interior and piano accompaniment make for a sophisticated ambiance. Prices remain surprisingly reasonable. It says something that Ashok personally entertains out of town relatives at the Bombay Club.

We went to Bombay club after reading the great reviews about the place everywhere. The food was okay. We ordered Bombay sev puri and paneer tikka as appetizers. Although they have small portions, both of them were awesome. The entree was not so great although the Naan was delicious. The whole time we sat there, there were too many mosquitoes and were literally eaten up by them. Wouldn't go again.

We have been to the Bombay Club several times in several years, and Sunday Brunch was always great. Good food, not outstanding but very authentic, good service, a pretty place and excelent price if you consider the unlimited sparkling wine. HOWEVER this past Sunday August 31 it was a bad unpleaseant experience. The service was terrible. and any of the waiters and staff we have seeing there before were around. We arrived with our guests and were taken to our table, where we had to wait for a long time before anybody came. That happened everytime we needed somenthing even water or the check, leave alone the refill of our glasses! Waiters were just standing and talking to each other. Bad service is the only way to describe the experience.

Seated in a back corner of a room off the main dining room with a large family. Service was impersonal, perfunctory and lacked the finesse that I expect a restaurant rated, undeserved, 10 in the Washingtonian. Food was inconsistent - chaat and tandoori chicken - wonderful, puri ok but super hot, and eggplant bharta a mediocre paste. They charge for rice. There are better Indian restaurants in this city. After the family left, no one else was seated in our room. We felt shunned. This restaurant is overly impressed with itself and needs to consider how it treats people who are not "powerbrokers" or restaurant critics.

I had heard from friends how special "The Bombay Club" was and a group of friends were interested in trying out authentic Indian cuisine, and so I suggested a dinner at "The Bombay Club." Making reservations was easy, ambiance superb, service excellent and the menu extensive offering possibilities for different palates. We ordered various appetizers - fava, green bean samosa that was one of the best I have tasted; others had Tandoori scallop and Mango shrimp and an order of Papadam (not on the menu, but they agreed to make it). For the main course - Chicken Tikka Makhni, Kubhani Duck, Lamb Roganjosh and Bombay Thali, and a basket of tasty naan. All EXCELLENT! Cocktails and Kingfisher beer, and various sorbets rounded out the evening.
