Diner Reviews
  • "This was our first time dining at Bolt. We chose to sit outside which was very pleasant with an active street scene and street music on a Saturday night. The experience was very enjoyable, the food very good and the service friendly although they have a way to go in this category to be first class. Highly recommended for an informal dinner with a full menu of good food."

  • "We were seated immediately when we showed up for our reservation and that was the peak of the service for the evening. I sat on the outside edge of the booth and could barely hear the waiter all night despite an average noise level all night. He didn't know the draft beer selection or the specials for the evening. He repeated our drink orders back incorrectly, then came back to ask again what one of us wanted to drink. He did the same thing after taking our meal order. He had to come back and ask what 2 of the 4 of us had ordered. We never got our salads or crab cakes, yet they still showed up on our bills. The food that we did get was delicious, and I would come back for that. I'd just ask to be in a different server's section if I do."

  • "I've eaten here a few times, and every time, the service is fantastic. Our waiter was brand new and so attentive and wonderful. Not one, but two managers stopped by to make sure my friend and I were enjoying our meal. The food came out quickly, was beautifully presented, and delicious."

  • "Our visit was while we were attending the 4th of July celebration. We love the food at Bolt & didn't want the food truck fare offered outside. I was surprised to see the menu was different then the usual, offering hamburgers, fries & shrimp tacos, I was not disappointed with the elevated street fare. The table started with fried calamari (a bit oily at the bottom) & the ahi tuna both so yummy. I ordered the shrimp tacos they were Awesome! Hubby got Shrimp & grits and our daughter had the lobster mac & cheese. We finished by sharing a key lime pie too sweet for me but the family ate it up. Bolt always offers fresh food cooked perfectly served by a very good and friendly waitstaff. We all enjoyed dinner & the fireworks that followed."

  • "I had a difficult time finding an open restaurant in the triangle on a Monday and so close to the 4th of July. So kudos right off the bat to this place. Bolt Bistro cuisine for me was an eclectic spin on modern American fare. Yes they have steaks and chops, but I really don't see this place as a 'steakhouse'. The location and ambiance of this spot is outstanding. Right in the hear of downtown with a modern, open feel. The wait staff and especially the hostess were extremely friendly and their management was accommodating and welcomed us on a Monday with open arms. I really enjoyed their bar and wine list, with local brews and interesting takes on some red wine, their entrees were unique and delicious."

  • "I was a little concerned at first, Saturday evening and it wasn't very crowded but food and service were very good. I will return."

  • "This was our second trip to Bolt and we brought friends with us. We are happy to report that it was as good this time as the first, which because we brought friends who had never been before, was a relief. You never know when you recommend a restaurant if it will turn out as good as you say but Bolt overachieved. The fresh creative drinks, the menu specials, and the service were all wonderful. We will definitely be back and bring more friends again. Thank you Bolt for a wonderful dining experience."

  • "The service was excellent. The food was amazing. And the drinks were even better! Best shrimp and grits I've ever had. The server recommended the perfect cocktail which was something "Bliss". The Sweet Potato Casserole was to die for. Will definitely be back!"

  • "Great experience eating on the sidewalk on a Saturday night. Service was friendly, attentive, excellent. Food was superb - filet and rack of lamb. The food ranked up with any restaurant we've been to in the area in the past few years. A great birthday dinner."

  • "We had two orders of filets and two of short ribs and they were tender and cooked to perfection. The au gratin potatoes were not overcooked as often happens and had a great flavor. All four of us were quite pleased."

  • "We enjoyed the restaurant week selections being served at Bolt. Their bean dip is delightful. All of the wait staff were very attentive and friendly. The restaurant is open so the noise level is a bit higher but it didnt detract from the overall experience."

  • "the server was very knowledgeable, lobster Bisque was creamy & flavorful and the salad crisp. The scallops were cooked to perfection, the Lamb was outstanding with the addition of sweet potatoes, the steak was cooked to desired doneness. with desert coffee was served in a french press at the table, chocolate torte we did have was excellent. We will be back it is hard to find a restaurant that treats you as a guest & you walk out the door thinking wow that was great. The water glasses were kept full, the silverware was replaced at each course that isnt something i have had done in Raleigh at any restaurant unlike some of the other city's we have dined in. The have a nice selection of wine & the bar had a good selection of top shelf scotch."

  • "My friend and I visited this restaurant during the Triangle Restaurant Week. The food was delicious and the service was great. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends and I will be returning to dine there."

  • "This place was ok - it's a steakhouse that has an ok bar. The bartender was pretty busy, so our drinks took a while and he never garnished them. They also ran out of a main ingredient of several of their signature drinks. The ambiance was contemporary ... I loved their house-made pita chips and hummus! "

  • "Some friends and I met up in a Raleigh for a ladies weekend so we were a little late but restaurant was accommodating. Great booth and wait staff very energetic and friendly. We all ordered different food items so sampled several things and overall the food was very good. Would recommend to a friend."

  • "The atmosphere is fantastic. The menu choices were hit with our group. The food was exceptionally well. The cook really knows what he's doing. This place is definitely on our favorite list for dinner in Raleigh."

  • "We dined at Bolt for triangle restaurant week. The food was amazing and our waitress was very attentive even though it took a long time to get our starters. This was probably due to the busyness of restaurant week. We were also sat next to the kitchen so it was extremely distracting and loud when we were trying to enjoy a nice dinner together. But overall the experience was good and I definitely recommend it!"

  • "I picked this restaurant during restaurant week as I have never been. I have certain food restrictions and it was such a great find! Food was wonderful. We sat outside, so can not comment much on interior. But on what counts: food and service was great even with my boyfriend's steak cooked more than he preferred it was still very tender and juicy. Would def. Go again. "

  • "1st BOLT visit in many months. What dramatic improvements since last time. Looks the same, but our meal was wonderful, start to finish, w everything well-prepared, nicely presented, & very flavorful. Nice, varied menu accommodating all tastes. All the staff (who all seemed new since last time) appeared extremely sincere & conscientious in wanting to assure an ideal dining experience. They succeeded in grand style. "

  • "I took my mom to lunch at Bolt for her birthday. We had a great meal. The restaurant week menu has a lot of options for lunch, which you don't often see many restaurants participating for lunch or that have a lot of options to choose from. I had the turkey croissant and it was fantastic. My mom enjoyed the shrimp and grits. I highly recommend Bolt for restaurant week and for lunch or dinner on any day ending with a Y."

  • "Myself and date both found the food extremely bland. The appetizers tiny and flavorless and the entree's both lacking in any sort of real flavor. For a tiny app, two entrees and 2 drinks w/ tip the bill was around $100. Silly for bland food with mediocre service."

  • "Food was good, service was excellent. Wine selection was a little sparse and they didn't have what was on the list, but we survived. "

  • "The food and service were fine. However, we ordered lobster mac and cheese and although it tasted great, it only had one small piece of lobster on top (not chunks inside the dish). This dish was $19.00. How ridiculous!! For that price, we reasonably expected more lobster."

  • "We recently had our 4th dining experience at Bolt, taking two friends from out of town there. Boy, how things have changed. Never disappointed in their meat dishes in the past, all three diners this go-round found our meal flat, lacking in taste and a lamb a bit on the dry side, even cooked medium rare. The waitstaff was much less professional in their behavior this last visit. Hoping this is not a trend, just a blip. But, we would hesitate to recommend it to other people at this point. One nervous young man did come ask us how our food was but we had not even finished our salads!"

  • "We dined at Bolt for Mother's Day and were very pleased with the menu options. Our waiter was very well versed in all of the food items and the wines on the menu. Our waiter was very personable and made the experience all the better. The food was amazing. We will definitely be back."

  • "My boss brought me and other staff members for my belated Professional Assistant Day. The atmosphere was nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful. My food was delicious and everyone at the table enjoyed their meals. My boss is a vegan and they were able to get her a meal prepared that she enjoyed. I will definitely return and also recommend to family and friends "

  • "This was a first visit and very enjoyable. Tuesday at 9pm was quiet but the service and hospitality was outstanding. It was clear that these folks will adapt to suit your taste, so be sure to communicate any dietary requirements. The seared tuna appetizer was delicious, and memorable; the wasabi component was creamy not eye wateringly harsh, the accompanying ginger and seaweed were perfectly complementary. This restaurant dresses a salad to perfection - lightly. Every component sampled was fresh - quality salmon, a cut above the norm. Bolt Bistro offers 10% off your food order when you present your NC Symphony ticket day of concert. Just great to have a restaurant that serves delicious food and supports the symphony. Thank you BB&B! "

  • "This proved to be the perfect place for my graduation celebration. A taste of modern ambience combined with fantastic food at affordable prices was perfect for a party with over 10 people. A higher end steakhouse that won't break the bank with most prices around the $30 range. Remember to ask for the regular menu to see a wider selection of entrees on special occasions (holidays, graduations, etc.). I would definitely eat there again!"
