A partnership between TAO Group, Serge Becker (Miss Lily’s, La Esquina) and his UK partners, Will Ricker and Ed Spencer Churchill, Bodega Negra has crossed the pond, bringing its menu of modern Mexican fare to New York City’s Dream Downtown.

The menu consists of original items created by Chef Michael Armstrong, as well as a small selection of signature dishes available at the UK location. Chef Armstrong’s menu draws inspiration from the diverse regions of Mexico, and is designed for sharing, ranging from small plates such as ceviches, tacos, and salads, to large-format offerings.

Everything u would want in a restaurant. Great food, extra friendly and accommodating staff, gold ambience and amazing location. However, it is definitely on the pricey side for what you get. I believe they need a 15-20% reduction in prices before I would go back. Otherwise it was a wonderful experience.

Great menu and service. Tequila selection was exceptional. The restaurant is best suited for groups as much of their menu is geared towards sharing the offerings. Reasonable pricing as well. For a party of 2, we had two drinks shared 2 tacos types, chips, grilled corn and empanadas plus their signature dessert and the check came out to $135. Great place will visit again this time with a group. Thanks Bodega Negra!!!

Having had food from Bodega Negra at a benefit in New York, we were eager to try the restaurant. The food did not disappoint! The big standout was the great soft shell crab tacos, but our group also had two of the ceviches, the quesadilla rustica, and the salmon. All was enjoyed. The experience is only marred by how incredibly dark it is (easy to fall going down the stairs) and how incredibly noisy it is, and these two things mean it's not a place for everyone. It would be good if there were also some guidance on which dishes were over-the-moon spicy, and which were just a little spicy. But everyone should have these tacos--or one of the other fillings, like chicken, vegetable, steak, etc--at least once in their life. Amazing.

This place came across as a happening place but we weren't in love with it. Definitely didn't seem as cool as their marketing material. The Margaritas and the bar were good. The food was ok but we had better dinner experiences during our New York trip. The stand out dishes were the Crispy Pork Belly, Lobster Tostaditas & the Quesadilla Rustica.

We celebrated a friend's engagement here early on Saturday night. We had terrific service and food was fantastic. We ordered the secret snapper ceviche, guacamole, pork belly and soft shell crab tacos, branzino special and steak. My favorite was the branzino which had a very flavorful taste but everything was delicious. For dessert we received the special white chocolate with caramel and chocolate molten cake. The dessert was the perfect, special way to end our meal. This is a great special occasion and trendy place to try which isn't quite as "clubby" in your face as other meatpacking spots. Highly recommend!

I brought my wife here for our 10th anniversary, after hearing great reviews from a friend. Bodega Negra did not disappoint. Our waiter Lawrence was the absolute best; he insured that we were satisfied for our entire meal. We had the guacamole, shared the Carne Asada, Chicken Pibil and Grilled Fish Tacos, and the infamous Don Huevo dessert, along with a Spicy Sandia for her and a Blood and Fire cocktail for me -- all of which was impeccable and a fresh take on flavors! We will definitely be back ASAP.

This was the 2nd dining experience there, food was great the first time, service was not though. This time we had the same server and it was horrible! There was zero table presence, sent one dish back as it was over cooked and waited on a remake for 30 min, still never came, not apologetic about it and then when i tried to talk to management about it, I got disregarded for a VIP table, nothing was dealt with, just left and will never come back!

2nd time coming there with a big group and the food was just as amazing as the first time, but this time the music and the ambiance was much better, even tho still a little loud to carry conversations without yelling, at least it wasn't heavy metal and rock that really interfered and got on nerves too.

Extremely disappointed with the food and restaurant. It took over an hour to be seated. When we were finally seated we were in a seating area that was made for 4 people not 7(underneath dj.) When we asked to be moved, they told us we couldn't move because the tables in the center were for parties of 8, those tables were empty half the night and when occupied there were only a party of 4. We ordered for 7 people(appetizers, main course, dessert) our food did not come all at once because there was no space on table for it so it came in groups of 3, needless to say we were there for almost four hours waiting on food. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't memorable cant recommend anything but bodega guacamole and Don Huevo dessert.

I was taking a friend from out of town out to dinner and had heard about Bodega Negra and wanted to try it. The food was delicious as were the cocktails. I was very impressed by the service. Our server took great pride in talking about the special dinner which was a pork tenderloin with all of the profits going to the Charlie Trotter Foundation. Having had a dinner at Charlie Trotters , I had to try it and it was really delicious . It was amazing dinner only to be exceeded by the dessert which we are still talking about.

Hype and the food is surprisingly good! (Except for the deserts, which were a miss). But the appetizers and entrees are excellent. We went there with a group of 6 people for restaurant week. We had a reservation - seated of course 20 minutes late... ok. Our waitress was nice. I'd like to say I'll be back - since I really liked the food - but I felt so rushed to finish my plate that I am not so sure. We were still eating our appetizers when they brought the entrees!!! So we had to send them back. The busboys kept trying to take our plate when we are not even half way through. Almost all of us had to fight, at least 3 to 5 times to keep our plates. It got not only intrusive (since it interrupts a conversation) but also very unpleasant.

The food and service were great! It is really dark. The two friends I was with really had a hard time seeing the menu and their food. They both wear glasses. I had the shrimp ceviche which was nicely flavored and for entree I had the amish chicken. The chicken was seasoned to perfection and a good portion. I was stuffed after several bites. I would definitely be coming back.

Too dark. We had to use our iPhones to read the menu. Music way to loud, and the noise level got louder as time went by. Part of the dining experience is chatting with your dinner guests. We were shouting to one another. More like a club atmosphere than a restaurant. And whoever thought that surrounding the bathroom stalls in mirrors was a good idea - yikes - NO. Would not go back.

Great food and great pricing, we did the Prix fix menu at 75 for a group of 12 and we had more than enough food which was absolutely delicious! highly recommending the corn on the cob and the bone in rib eye, they are to die for! We were seated next to another bday party, all girls, who were very loud in their conversations and that was not very enjoyable, also they were playing some sort of rock variety over the speakers which we really disliked. Not only that it was a bit too loud and especially having the speaker right above our table, but it was really interfering with our conversations, and just really annoying; we expected Latino music to be played given that is it a Mexican restaurant. pls play softer music! not screeching rock

Service was awesome, it was almost like the server was reading our mind and we didn't have to ask for anything that we needed. Also, the cafe is a good option for after dinner drinks and quesadillas if you don't want to do the full sit down thing.

The venue was cold. We had Shrimp ceviche which was not only very cold but the chef used more ketchup than any other ingredient. The salmon started out delicious but as I was finishing, the salt was drenched on a corner. I felt as though I was eating a spoon of salt. The chile poblano was the worst. My husband only had one bite and left the rest. The server had us help him move the dishes. The waitress brought the check without us requesting it. I would never return much less recommend this restaurant.

I met a friend here during restaurant week, when we arrived it was empty, after about an hour it was full and the bus boy hovered around so close and so often I felt he was dining with us, and waitress pushed drinks, and then the bill...as finishing the last of our drinks the maître de [host] came to ask us to leave because he had other reservations - we could go to the bar!!! (PS.. Bar was full) This alone would not have been so terrible but for the fact that when leaving by way of the ladies, there were PLENTIFUL tables just beyond the main seating area. I'm a native New Yorker and have been to 100's of restaurants and NEVER been treated in this manner (Alas we did not order from the Restaurant week menu)

I have lived in New York for 3 months now and this was by far my worst dining experience. We arrived 7 minutes after our 8:15pm booking and we were informed by the Maitre D that they were just waiting for a couple of tables to finish up and please take a seat in the bar. An hour later we were still waiting for our table. No one came to apologise or give us updates, we were simply left there and had to do the chasing. Each time we asked, they were very curt and just seemed to act like this was the norm. Finally at 9:20pm we were seated. The food was fine but nothing exceptional. The restaurant is also very dark (we had to use our mobile light to help the waiter read the menu!).

The food was excellent. However, the restaurant was extremely dark and loud. While pleasant, our waitress was extremely hard to track down. She never came back to check on us and the entire serving staff seemed confused. For example, after our entree one waiter came by and took our plates and gave us new forks. Then a few minutes later another waiter came by and took the fork. Overall the food might get me to go back, but I expect better service from a place like this.

Showed up on time for my reservation but clients were running half an hour behind. Was told by the host ( tall, dark male) to let him know when everyone arrives and we will be seated. In the meantime, my client and I ordered appetizers and drinks at the bar. The rest of clients showed up and the same host told me it would be 45 minutes before he can seat us. 2 1/2 hours later, he did not seat us for dinner nor did he seem to care. I asked him more than three times about an approximate wait and he stuck to "45 minutes". I did advise the management of this and they were very professional and apologetic. I felt embarrassed and let down; I will not be back and would caution anyone going here for professional dinner to be aware.
