A partnership between TAO Group, Serge Becker (Miss Lily’s, La Esquina) and his UK partners, Will Ricker and Ed Spencer Churchill, Bodega Negra has crossed the pond, bringing its menu of modern Mexican fare to New York City’s Dream Downtown.

The menu consists of original items created by Chef Michael Armstrong, as well as a small selection of signature dishes available at the UK location. Chef Armstrong’s menu draws inspiration from the diverse regions of Mexico, and is designed for sharing, ranging from small plates such as ceviches, tacos, and salads, to large-format offerings.Continued

It's relatively new, so maybe still working out the kinks, but overall not a pleasant dining experience. Plus both front desk hosts had attitude and were unfriendly."

  • "Our main waiter was knowledgable and attentive and the food was all delicious. We dined earlier than we normally would on a Saturday, at 6 pm, and it meant that the restaurant was not overcrowded, and we were well looked after. The plantains were the only dish that could have been better, but the yellowtail cerviche, the lamb and the oxtail were all stunning. Highly recommended! We even took my partners mum, and she loved it too."

  • "It was easy to get a Friday 6pm reservation for 4-I found that pleasantly surprising. I loved the warm and intimate decor, and the entire staff was exceptionally good-looking; not surprising, but noticeable nonetheless. Great cocktail selection. The food selection was good-there were several options for those who don't eat meat. I ordered the veggie tacos, my husband had the peking duck tacos, and our two friends ordered the lamb barbacoa taco and corn salad. The portions were small for the price, but tasty. We ordered the tres leches for dessert, which was good, too. I would recommend Bodega for a nice romantic dinner or a chill evening with friends. Again, it's pricey so don't go too hungry, unless you're prepared to spent a lot."

  • "I was really excited to come to Bodegra Negra. I even made 5:30pm reservations (which is super early for me). When I called to push back my reservation for an hour because 5:30pm would be too early for me to get into the city, the hostess said "honestly you will probably have to wait when you get here" When we got there and there was only ONE table taken up. I didn't appreciate feeling like I was swindled. I understand you want to make the restaurant seem super busy, but come on. I only wanted to come in at 6:30, not 9pm. They could have accommodated us. Even when we left at 8pm- the restaurant was only half full. Then, wait staff got our food order wrong TWICE. Ill go to Dos Caminos next time."

  • "We got to our reservations 10 minutes early. We're told to wait at the bar. After going up to the hostess 4 times we were sat. TWO HOURS LATER. The hostess was compeltely unapologetic. The people that had reservations were sat at ten pm. It's just completely inexcusable. And just because they are at the dream hotel they feel they can get away with it."

  • "The service was personable, tentative, and informative. The dishes were tasty, creative, edgy, and gastronomic works of art. Serge Becker's use of the space was expected as well as a better use of it compared to the prior restaurant. The Sesame Tostadas Guacamole is a great way to start the meal – nice touch with the repurposed skull glassware. The Soft Shell Crab Tacos were exceptional and staples of their London location. The Brazed Ox Tail empanadas were fine and I would pass on next time. The Grilled Lobster was a highlight and we could have ordered another one to share. The artiste drinks were well received. The dessert, Don Huevo, was a real treat and would recommend it to conclude anyone's meal."

  • "The food was very tasty. The ambiance was also very nice. I had reservations for 5:30p. I met my friend at the bar, and she wanted to finish her wine before we were seated. The maitre d' came over and informed us that he had another party booked for our table at 7:30p. I thought that was quite unprofessional. Also, there was a gentleman that hovered over the table for a majority of the evening, he kept wiping it down, taking glasses, plates & so forth. It became annoying very quickly. Our server was very nice and informative of the food and the drink. I would return, but perhaps only to the bar area."

  • "Really cool setting, great food, (the duck tacos oh my!!!) less than thrilled when at 6:00 one of our party wasn't there and it was explained we'd have to be finished by 9 as another party was expected. At 6:00 the restaurant was essentially empty and we had spent about $175 at the bar on 2 rounds of drinks so it was a little abrupt to be told we'd need to be out by 9."
