A word from Bodega Negra
A partnership between TAO Group, Serge Becker (Miss Lily’s, La Esquina) and his UK partners, Will Ricker and Ed Spencer Churchill, Bodega Negra has crossed the pond, bringing its menu of modern Mexican fare to New York City’s Dream Downtown.

The menu consists of original items created by Chef Michael Armstrong, as well as a small selection of signature dishes available at the UK location. Chef Armstrong’s menu draws inspiration from the diverse regions of Mexico, and is designed for sharing, ranging from small plates such as ceviches, tacos, and salads, to large-format offerings.Continued

  • "Great place and yummy foods..the steak tacos and chicken tostadas were very yummy!! The Don Huevo desert is amazing and make sure you get ur phone ready to videotape it when it comes out!! Well worth every penny!!"

  • "Very dark room, which in some circles might seem atmospheric, but when it's actually hard to see anything, it gave me pause. Service was very warm and friendly, food good and they have a nice range of mixed drinks and beers. Gets very noisy by 8pm"

  • "Lot's of tequila to choose from. Great food and service and a great scene after 10pm. We loved it."

  • "Drinks were amazing and the food was in line with the drinks...amazing! The grilled corn is a must and the best guacamole we have ever had. We also had the Peking Duck Tacos and the Pork Belly, also recommend highly."

  • "We went for early dinner at 6 PM and the place was quite. We liked that. Food was really good, especially guacamole and cevice and our server was super sweet and attentive. He made our evening."

  • "Came here with another couple and really enjoyed the food and ambience. We decided to order tapas style which turned out to be plenty of food for 4. My fav - the skirt steak empanadas!"

  • "Loved the ambiance and decor of this Mexican chic gem. Service was attentive and steady. Menu can get pricey as the plates are small and not "family style" as the gentleman advised. More on the tapas side of dishes- in that sense yes, made to pick and share. If you are hungry def suggest getting an entree rather than 5 small plates to taste. Tostaditas were delish and the Pork Belly tacos were Superb! Desert special was amazing- great for the bday celebration we had! Will def rtn!"

  • "We loved the dark woods, funky lightbulbs and rotating copper sculpture. I got the GulfSide cocktail, great absinthe and mezcal concoction; they didn't stint on the booze. Guacamole was smooth and fresh. I got the lamb barbacoa, with rich complex brown sauce and veggies in a hot pot. Hubbie's duck and steak tortillas good but small, he liked duck better. Only problem was overly fast service (apps and mains delivered within 5 minutes). Also our waitress was friendly but disappeared after the entrees to talk lengthily with another couple who appeared to be connected. Bathrooms are accessible through a circuitious dark maze. Coconut flan dessert was sinfully good. We plan to return."

  • "Went with a group of friends to celebrate a friend's birthday. Have to say, the food was outstanding! Can't recall all the dishes we ordered, but every single one was full of flavor and very tasty. Service, however, left a lot to be desired. When the restaurant is nearly empty (it was still early) it shouldn't take 10 min to bring 2 drinks. Especially when one of them is just scotch and not even a cocktail. The drinks must've been sitting on the bar and waiting for our waiter, as half the ice in scotch melted before it even made it to our table. Throughout dinner, waiter showed zero interest in how the table was doing and had a poor attitude. Maybe we just got him on a bad day. Overall, still a great place that I would go back to."

  • "This restaurant was very dark, I would only say go to this place if your on a date even then the food is just "fair" I wouldn't go back."

  • "The restaurant is so dark, you really can't see your hand in front of your face. The dishes look more appetizing than they are."

  • "I booked the place and they did not tell me that my table was available only for 1h and 3/4 After 1h 3/4 they asked us to leave without dessert. I complaint to the manager and after arguing and insisting he said that at the beginning of the evening he warned us that we had the table for limited time. I answered that he should have warned me at the moment of the booking NOT once I was there with my guests. After insisting and arguing he let us have dessert. There was huge mess in the room, too many guests anyhow waiting, they over book the place and can not manage it properly: the waiter was kind and in trouble and the food is average... NO way I will return"

  • "Worst dining experience I have ever had! We had clients here from out of town and wanted to take them somewhere great. We have been here a bunch of times and we were in love. We even let the host and manager know that we were with important people. We waited almost an hour for a table, we had no server come to our table for at least 20 minutes and half of the food that was ordered didn't even make it to the table. The food we were served was cold, had no taste and when we specifically asked for nothing to be spicy because a guest was allergic, it was made extra spicy. We will never go again. "

  • "Food is good. Ambience is great. Great spot for birthday dinners, large group events and/or just grabbing a drink at the bar. Great scene, but expect the typical meatpacking vibe/crowd. "

  • "Food was way too spicey for us. Guacamole nearly inedible as well as the salads and two of our entrees. The drinks and atmosphere were great though. Food came out a little too quickly. Didn't even have our drinks yet in hand. "

  • "We ate here with some friends and had a good meal at a good price. Our friends had some trouble reading the menu and seeing the food due to the dimmed light :-/ but it was a cool place and great food. Could recommend the bar and the PHD for topping the night out. Would come back."

  • "Wewere late for our reservaation but called in advance to let them know. They said they would give our table away if we were more than 15 min late and we would have to wait for the next table.. We waited 1 hour to sit. Sat down at 12am. We then waited 20 more minutes for menus and the waitress kept coming over and saying said would be right back as she proceeded running around to other tables. Then when we asked her about an item on the menu her response was "what happen" as if I was placing an order in Mcdonalds. All they did was comp our drinks. The food was nothing to write home about. Not going back."

  • "We were so lucky to find this restaurant. It was recommended to us by the Standard Hotel because last minute I decided I wasnt in the mood for the steakhouse we had booked. The food wad fantastic, our waiter Michael was so cute and so attentive. There was a mgr. On the floor at all times who even bought my birthday dessert My.boyfriend and I are both in the restaurant business and we were impressed across the board. We will definitely be back!"

  • "We went for an early Cinco De Mayo dinner. It was our first time to the restaurant. We were greeted by a very nice and attentive front desk. They didn't mind that our friends hadn't arrived yet and allowed us to get a drink in the bar til they arrived. The bartender was very friendly and made us a great margarita. Once seated, our service was great. Food was creative and delicious. We will definitely return!"

  • "Nice resturant, arrived on time but had to wait c. 1hr for a table. Got two free drinks though for not complaining. Food was great and service attentive. We ordered way too much but everything was delicious. Not quite as cool a location as in London"

  • "We were celebrating my sister's birthday and although it took awhile to seat us despite our reservation, the drinks at the bar helped (get the chipotle cacao marg!). The staff was so outgoing and energetic, the food was good but the dessert was insane!!! Ask for the white chocolate dessert w melting caramel and you won't regret it. The vibe was the best part -- very tastefully decorated, dim lighting, big barrels on the left side of the restaurant, and lots of mexican/rustic/cowhide finishings on the right side of the restaurant near the bar. I loved the scene. Trendy place to go with friends to kick off a wild night!"

  • "The service was very kind. The food really good. The only critic I have is that we have our reservation at 10, and the table was ready at 10.30 "

  • "Take your date, girlfriend, wife or friends (m/f) to the Bodega and experience the vibrant atmosphere in this contemporary restaurant, enjoy their delicious Mexican-based food and their well-composed cocktails (bar and restaurant). Staff was friendly and competent, even though it was a busy night when we visited. Do not choose Bodega Negra if you are looking for a quiet night out, otherwise: go there - arriba!"

  • "Very good Mexican food - not the absolute best in NYC, but towards the top. Being at the Dream Hotel Downtown, definitely a scene. DJ music a bit loud. "
    Dined on 4/19/2014
  • "What could be a great NY dining experience fails simply because of an inexperienced wait staff and food that is trying too hard. It's relatively new, so maybe still working out the kinks, but overall not a pleasant dining experience. Plus both front desk hosts had attitude and were unfriendly."

  • "I've had better food it was just ok! the best part was watching the Don Huevo Dessert Presentation . That was magical .. The Cocomel dessert which is a coconut flan was delicious"

  • "Some menu gems -- oxtail empanadas, crab tacos -- but some overly salty dishes and inconsistent service make this only so-so for me."

  • "Super trendy and fun atmosphere. Food and service were fantastic."

  • "Our main waiter was knowledgable and attentive and the food was all delicious. We dined earlier than we normally would on a Saturday, at 6 pm, and it meant that the restaurant was not overcrowded, and we were well looked after. The plantains were the only dish that could have been better, but the yellowtail cerviche, the lamb and the oxtail were all stunning. Highly recommended! We even took my partners mum, and she loved it too."

  • "It was easy to get a Friday 6pm reservation for 4-I found that pleasantly surprising. I loved the warm and intimate decor, and the entire staff was exceptionally good-looking; not surprising, but noticeable nonetheless. Great cocktail selection. The food selection was good-there were several options for those who don't eat meat. I ordered the veggie tacos, my husband had the peking duck tacos, and our two friends ordered the lamb barbacoa taco and corn salad. The portions were small for the price, but tasty. We ordered the tres leches for dessert, which was good, too. I would recommend Bodega for a nice romantic dinner or a chill evening with friends. Again, it's pricey so don't go too hungry, unless you're prepared to spent a lot."

  • "I was really excited to come to Bodegra Negra. I even made 5:30pm reservations (which is super early for me). When I called to push back my reservation for an hour because 5:30pm would be too early for me to get into the city, the hostess said "honestly you will probably have to wait when you get here" When we got there and there was only ONE table taken up. I didn't appreciate feeling like I was swindled. I understand you want to make the restaurant seem super busy, but come on. I only wanted to come in at 6:30, not 9pm. They could have accommodated us. Even when we left at 8pm- the restaurant was only half full. Then, wait staff got our food order wrong TWICE. Ill go to Dos Caminos next time."

  • "We got to our reservations 10 minutes early. We're told to wait at the bar. After going up to the hostess 4 times we were sat. TWO HOURS LATER. The hostess was compeltely unapologetic. The people that had reservations were sat at ten pm. It's just completely inexcusable. And just because they are at the dream hotel they feel they can get away with it."

  • "The service was personable, tentative, and informative. The dishes were tasty, creative, edgy, and gastronomic works of art. Serge Becker's use of the space was expected as well as a better use of it compared to the prior restaurant. The Sesame Tostadas Guacamole is a great way to start the meal – nice touch with the repurposed skull glassware. The Soft Shell Crab Tacos were exceptional and staples of their London location. The Brazed Ox Tail empanadas were fine and I would pass on next time. The Grilled Lobster was a highlight and we could have ordered another one to share. The artiste drinks were well received. The dessert, Don Huevo, was a real treat and would recommend it to conclude anyone's meal."

  • "The food was very tasty. The ambiance was also very nice. I had reservations for 5:30p. I met my friend at the bar, and she wanted to finish her wine before we were seated. The maitre d' came over and informed us that he had another party booked for our table at 7:30p. I thought that was quite unprofessional. Also, there was a gentleman that hovered over the table for a majority of the evening, he kept wiping it down, taking glasses, plates & so forth. It became annoying very quickly. Our server was very nice and informative of the food and the drink. I would return, but perhaps only to the bar area."

  • "Really cool setting, great food, (the duck tacos oh my!!!) less than thrilled when at 6:00 one of our party wasn't there and it was explained we'd have to be finished by 9 as another party was expected. At 6:00 the restaurant was essentially empty and we had spent about $175 at the bar on 2 rounds of drinks so it was a little abrupt to be told we'd need to be out by 9."
