  • "Everything is done right. Our food is always outstanding and the service is great. Everything from the water to the pickles, the butter is even special. Entree was perfect and the deserts are amazing. We continue to return over and over."

  • "Had not been to Boca in two years. We were disappointed That the restaurant looked run down and tired. No tablecloths, Table was sticky to the touch, plates looked cheap. Food was Average but way overpriced. Upside - our server was Pleasant and attentive. Will not go back."

  • "My wife ordered steak which was good. I am not a meat eater and from past experience the chicken tends to be overly seasoned and the fish is not one of their specialties-the one this evening was farmed. The atmosphere is somewhat dark and not upbeat. They need to provide a chicken dish that would satisfy non meat customers. I have heard this from other diners as well. Eat here for steak only."

  • "I had higher expectations for Boca tavern. The service was so-so and the food was boring and bland"

  • "Had visited this restaurant when it was Boca Restaurant, this was the first trip to restaurant since change in restaurant food format & name change. Greated pleasantly at door, told hostess that we had a theater date and needed to leave at specific time. Hostess informed our waitperson. We were seated in a quiet area in restaurant. Waitperson come promptly to take order. Had prime rib, which was cooked perfectly and very flavorful, and portions generous; wine choices very good. Waitperson pleasant, efficient, and made sure we were out the door on time for our theater date."

  • "Two of my guests ordered the cioppino and enjoyed every bite. My stroganoff was excellent with perfectly cooked pasta and lots of meat. Highly recommend."

  • "We used to come to Boca for special occasions, but everyone in our family agrees that it's not the same any more. The new menu is not as good, and the pasta dish our daughter ordered was smoky and she didn't finish it. The beef used in our burgers was excellent, but I'd rather go to Phyllis Burgers for twice the burger at half the price. Everything on the menu is overpriced. We will not be back."

  • "We took a chance and tried Boca on Saturday night and it was terrific! We started with the pickles and my husband loved their crispy spiciness. We split the Mediterranean salad which was dressed perfectly. I had fish tacos and the hubby had the burger. They were both great! Will def go again!"

  • "We had a fun night at Boca Tavern. The chicken skewers were delicious and the flatiron special with mushroom mash was amazing. Dessert menu didn't really entice suspect, so we had the brownie sundae between four. Very sweet and fun way to end the meal. It was more than enough between 4, although it says it's got 2."

  • "Just when I thought Boca Tavern couldn't get any better they earned yet another place in my culinary heart with great service. We were there with a particularly clever and snarky bunch and our server kept pace with us, dishing back bright comments and providing us with very useful information about the wine and food. And our group knows their wines. We wanted a quieter table and Boca staff was quick to responde by combining a couple of tables further from the open kitchen. A suggestion to anyone who books a table: request the side room if you want real quiet. There was something for everyone and the one of our group said it was the best cioppino she'd had in years."

  • "I had called ahead to find out when prime rib would be served and was told Sat. or Sun. I made our reservation and we looked forward all week to our prime rib meal as we rarely eat beef. When we got there and the server offered the menus I told him "not necessary" as we knew exactly what we wanted, prime rib with that big old baked potato, a meal we had enjoyed many times in the past. He told us it wasn't on the menu and I told him I had called ahead and was assured we could have it Sunday night. We couldn't and ended up eating salmon (and old standby for us). What we should have done was excuse ourselves and gone to Wild Fox which has great prime rib but is noisy!"

  • "Last year we had moved from the city to Marin. I didn't know where to take my husband for his birthday until someone suggested Boca Tavern. When we arrived the place was packed and was really loud but quickly forgot that since it was half off of all bottles of wine. Chose a nice Pinot and then looked at the menu. I am not much of a steak gal but thought I would try their filet. Well...it was the best filet I have ever had. So decided to go back for his birthday this year and the steak was as good as I remembered it."

  • "My husband and I just dined at the Boca Tavern first time since it changed over from Boca Steak and we both thought it was FANTASTIC all around. The menu offers many new dishes other than steak and everything from appetizer to dessert was five stars! The restaurant also seems to be busier than before with their new menu which is great. I highly recommend the beet salad and the fettuccine stroganoff."

  • "We ate at boca a while back when it was a steakhouse, and found it expensive and of low quality, so when they changed over to a tavern format, we decided to go again. Unfortunately, very little has changed aside from the name. My burger was bland, and not cooked right. The chocolate cake was dry and gritty. The service was friendly, but inattentive, except for keeping our water filled, though where the other tables we could see had normal water glasses, ours appeared to be candle holders. It was very pricy, especially drinks: I ordered one of their signature manhattans, which came with a gimmicky cherry frozen in an ice cube taking up all but about a sip of the glass. Disappointing. we won't be back, even with another format swap."

  • "We used to love, love Boca. But this week I took my long time friend who is a chef in Virginia to dinner at the new Boca Tavern promising her she would be impressed - instead I was embarassed. The beets on the beet salad, while presented nicely, were mushy and overcooked. The charred brocolini had only the flavor of the wood oven and was disappoiningly undercooked. It is also misspelled on the menu as we thought we were getting chard and brocolini. The pork chop was nice but not memorable, the best of the evening were the mashed potatoes and the sticky ribs. The best and only reason to go to Boca now is for their Happy Hour. The dining room is too bright and cold - not inviting. I long for the Boca of yore."

  • "For years this restaurant has been reliable for food and service. The interior is warm and comfortable and the service nicely paced and appropriately friendly. The calamari appetizer is a good choice to start.....hot, crispy and delicious with a great dipping sauce. Salmon and hangar steak entrées were both perfect. Have been enjoying this place for years and will definitely be going back. Good vibe all the way around."

  • "Overall the food was very good. Rod's mash potatoes came with a sirloin steak special. They were not hot, not warm, slightly below room temperature. Kathy raves about her cioppino, she took the broth home."

  • "Restaurant was great, had dekicious steak and beef, unfortunately i guess they changed alot recently inculding the name and sone menu items but i love it, between a few ppl we cashed out a buck fifty."

  • "Excellent food and service. Table was ready as per our reservation. Server and staff were friendly and efficient. Cioppino was fresh and excellent as usual. Disappointed that they did not have the crab-stuffed mushroom appetizer on the menu. Did not feel rushed, and thoroughly enjoyed our New Year's Eve dinner."

  • "Great service and most of the food was outstanding. The beef sliders were underwhelming though, not much taste and pricey for two small burgers. The caesar salad, cioppino and chocolate cake were outstanding. Noisy."

  • "The conversion to Boca Tavern is not an improvement. Almost no recipe on the menu was appealing. From weird salad and pasta combinations to "duck fat" fries the only item that looked good was the chicken. It was tasty. The stuffed portobello mushrooms were not described as "deep fried" but they arrived that way. Why?? The wine cellar is a nice room with the brick and great carpet color but the wine bottles need to be dusted. That atmosphere of old isn't compatible with food. Fix the menu, Boca. Your old one was more appropriate for Marin."

  • "Found ahi tuna poke, pork belly and beet salad appetizers to be very good. We returned 2 steak entrees due to the meat being cooked "medium" as opposed to "medium rare" as requested. We came for a special occasion dinner and were seated next to a large party with 3 young children running around the restaurant. The main dining room decor was reminiscent of a cafeteria. Ambiance dis appointing especially at $30 an entree."

  • "The Boca Restaurant is not a steak house any more. We went for steak and was somewhat disappointed. The food was good but not special, the portions are small with lots of extras and it was a little pricey. The service was good. Nice neighborhood restaurant, but we miss the old Boca"

  • "I enjoyed my meal...but it was the $33. steak, $14. glass of wine with raw oysters to start. One family member had hanger steak...which I never order. It was too well done. Another family member had shrimp in pasta ... too bad he was not impressed. I liked it, but it was a little noisy. Too bad. So many places are loud."

  • "Even though my husband and I loved Bocha Steakhouse, we were pleasantly surprised to find that Bocha Tavern was wonderful as well. Great food -- my husband had the ribeye steak and I had the hanger steak -- both were excellent! Tasty hors d'oeuvres too! overall a yummy experience. We definitely will be back!"

  • "disappointing dining experience. this has been my first time back since they changed from Boca Steakhouse to Boca Tavern. prices are a tad lower but the food quality dropped big time. dessert was great (no change from before.) their wonderful signature pickles used to be free now they are $ 6. honestly, Boca Pizza has much better dishes now and is less expensive than Boca Tavern. hopefully htis was just and off evening."

  • "We arrived, with a reservation, and were seated immediately (which, unfortunately, is not always the case at some restaurants). We began with two different appetizers.. Although both were excellent, I would highly recommend the crab-stuffed mushrooms which are prepared in a very light, crispy batter. Two of us had prime rib, which was served exactly as ordered and had excellent flavor. Our daughter had the cioppino, which was in a slightly spicy sauce with very fresh seafood. The server was attentive and friendly. It was a most enjoyable evening for our party of three and we will be back."

  • "Quite noisy and not much ambiance. Used silverware was put on the bare table after the first course! Mostly red meat, one fish dish only and some pasta. Dont think I will rush back."

  • "I will not return to this restaurant as long as there is no dining on the patio. The noise level was unbearable. We changed our table 2 times and we could bearly make out what the other person was saying. Not a pleasant dining experience at all."

  • "Came across Boca Tavern while searching for a place to eat and we're glad we found it. Had a late reservation but arrived early and were promptly seated. We had their fried fish and the rib eye and neither disappointed. The fish was flaky and moist while the ribeye was done to perfection. Their fries were served with 3 dipping sauces all of which were excellent and the mashed potato was superb. The atmosphere was energetic and while it seemed upscale prices were reasonable and the dress was casual. The wait staff was fantastic and very attentive."

  • "We've always liked this comfortable restaurant, with good food and nice service, but in its newest edition it has surpassed its past. Wonderful steak, great pasta, original and luscious dessert; combined with charming service, it made for a memorable evening."

  • "The transformation to Boca Tavern is a winner and the quality of the food and the menu have not suffered. Love going there as a couple or with friends. This trip was with girlfriends and it looks like the word is out as there were several tables with girlfriend groups! Novato DOES have some great dining and this is one of the best. Kuki"

  • "I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked Boca after it was transformed into Boca Tavern. Was looking for a conveniently located restaurant in Novato for my party of five and decided to give Boca another try when I noticed it was now called "Boca Tavern". Saw the menu on line and it looked good (something for everyone). Zeroed in on the Cioppino for myself and oddly enough the next day there was a review of the "new" Boca Tavern in the IJ. They liked it and recommended the cioppino. I loved it and everyone else at our table was equally pleased. Service was good also. One small thing; in re-decorating, they kept the old cowhide on all the seats and it was a poor choice to keep them. The cowhide would look much better on the cows."
