A word from Bobo Restaurant
Breathing new life into a hundred year old brownstone in the West Village, Bobo hums with the excited din of a dinner party. Bobo is a clubhouse for spirited grown-ups to enjoy soulful seasonal French food in a fantasy townhouse setting that marries European elegance and romance with New York’s downtown energy. Chef Cedric Tovar’s (Daniel, Peacock Alley, Town) menus offer a contemporary take on seasonal French classics that celebrate our region’s best ingredients, from same-day fish and shellfish from the shores of Long Island, to heritage duck and heirloom produce from the Hudson Valley.

Bobo is open for dinner nightly, happy hour, and brunch on the weekends. The bar serves seasonal cocktails and sustainably produced wines from family-owned vineyards. The restaurant was designed by Dekar and spans several floors of our elegant and funky house, offering a range of environments, including a garden, for a range of occasions.

  • "Our experience at Bobo was lovely. The service could use a little work. Our server was attentive but seemed oddly nervous and scattered. Food was great. Would highly recommend the mini crab cakes, octopus salad, and steak tartare. I got the scallops and risotto. The risotto was good but overcooked. The scallops were a little small. We tried 3 desserts, they were good but not amazing. Best item was the salted caramel ice cream. Our cocktails were excellent. They stole the show. I've heard people rave about their bar scene and happy hour but haven't gone myself. You could certainly hear the noise from the bar downstairs while in the main dining room upstairs."

Service is fun and articulate, food is good but not as exceptional as the décor and "the place to be" vibe that permeates. Selections will not disappoint, yet, more creativity with the preparations, more fresh herbs and less salt and less pasta would be appreciated."

  • "Had such a great time here the other weekend. Brunch is not my favorite meal but Bobo does it right. Super beautiful space and sunlit, glassed in outdoor patio. Amazing Bloody Marys. And the service was super friendly. And the best - they take reservations - which is not always the norm for brunch in nyc on a Sunday. Good times!"

  • "Overall we were very happy with our trip to Bobo. We started out our evening in the bar and after dining upstairs wished we had stayed down in the bar for dinner. The bartender was amazing - great drinks - good conversation - made us feel welcome. Upstairs while the food was good and everything was fine it was just a different "feel." As is common in many places in NYC we were crammed up next to another couple which just puts a damper on the evening. The downside of service is when our waiter took a break toward the end of the meal for a very obvious smoke break - please don't serve desert smelling like smoke - unless it was kitchen smoke. Would we go back, yes, but may stay downstairs."

  • "I've lived around the corner from Bobo for at least 6 months now and finally decided to give it a try. I am very happy I did. The food, wine and service were all amazing. My friend and I shared the ravioli, which was so full of flavor. She ordered the scallop risotto and I had the duck - both excellent dishes. The duck was prepared perfectly. I can't think of one negative thing to say about this place. Also, this place is great for dates. It's really romantic and dimly lit."

  • "This was our first return visit to Bobo since our daughter's wedding there last June- which I would highly recommend for a small, intimate, romantic wedding or event. It was perfect!! The food was excellent!! And the staff was great!! This visit was no exception. The waiter was knowledgable, and the food delicious, and of course the setting was charming. We sat out on the covered, heated terrace. Michael, one of the owners, came out and visited with us for a bit as well as making his way around to see if others were happy too. We will definitely return and recommend."

  • "My friend and I were late for our Saturday afternoon reservation but we were greeted with a smile and seated immediately anyway. Hard to decide between the service or the food which was more impressive. Our coffees were kept hot, the water glasses were never empty, our orders were delivered perfectly and we were encouraged to linger despite the room being full. The food was also great - we had the farm omelette and the egg white fritatta and both were hot, fluffy and generously sized. The brussels sprouts w bacon were also cooked perfectly and delicious. In this neighborhood there's so much brunch demand that restaurants can get lazy/cut corners, but not at Bobo!"

I never write a review but feel the need to warn people from overspending for such lack luster food and service....everything was under seasoned. I make better food then this chef. Only the cheese plate was worth mentioning since there was no cooking involved. For a signature dish, the "bobo salad" looked pretty but tasted bland. My cod dish had a soggy skin and the sauce was "broken". My friend had the steak and even the fries were terrible. Neither of us had more than a 1/4 of our dish. No one inquired why we ate so little. Service was so terrible I tipped 10% rather than the usual 20%. Do not waste you hard earned money here."

  • "The bar scene on the first floor is just what you're looking for to connect on a cold winter's day. The second floor is great for romantic dining without the din of the bar scene. The atrium on the second floor may make you pine for summer when the roof is lifted but it's great to be warm and toasty in an outdoor setting this time of year. And oh yeah... the food and service are great. Don't overlook this one!"

The service is always very attentive and our waitress lived up to the high standards. The fish entrees were delicious and appropriate for the Xmas eve meal, along with the Buche de Noel for dessert. This is a great restaurant for special-occasion dinners - the setting is warm and romantic. The bar scene below, however, is an option for more informal fare."

It arrived luke warm with four small scallops and one sad shriveled little fig. Disappointing. With so many excellent options in the West Village, Bobo really needs to try harder."

Much more enjoyable than the "name" restaurants in NYC. Out of towers should try it for a real NYC experience rather than the plastic tourist trap venues."
