A word from Bobo Restaurant
Breathing new life into a hundred year old brownstone in the West Village, Bobo hums with the excited din of a dinner party. Bobo is a clubhouse for spirited grown-ups to enjoy soulful seasonal French food in a fantasy townhouse setting that marries European elegance and romance with New York’s downtown energy. Chef Cedric Tovar’s (Daniel, Peacock Alley, Town) menus offer a contemporary take on seasonal French classics that celebrate our region’s best ingredients, from same-day fish and shellfish from the shores of Long Island, to heritage duck and heirloom produce from the Hudson Valley.

Bobo is open for dinner nightly, happy hour, and brunch on the weekends. The bar serves seasonal cocktails and sustainably produced wines from family-owned vineyards. The restaurant was designed by Dekar and spans several floors of our elegant and funky house, offering a cohesive blend of environments, including a garden, main dining room, and rooftop terrace, for a range of occasions.

The decor and ambiance were great. We were seated 30 min after our reservation. The cocktails were exceptional. Service was ok. The dessert was bad. We ordered the "Mars bar" dessert thinking that it was going to be a fancy dessert topped with Mars bar. However, it was essentially a melted candy bar on a plate for $12. We laughed when this was served because I could have bought one at the nearest deli for $1.

Went to Bobo with my son on a recommendation from a friend. Darling neighborhood -- restaurant has 3 eating areas: main dining on the 2nd floor, Terrace on the top floor, Den on the ground/garden level. Because we went from 2 to 3 in our party, we were seated in the Den which I do not recommend unless you are there only for a drink and apps. Food was absolutely delicious as was the wine we selected. However, we had the worst service I have experienced in a long time. We weren't given menus (host brought them to us after 15 minutes); we ordered apps and the waiter disappeared for over 20 minutes; ordered dinner and asked for a wine list which didn't come for another 15 minutes; entrees arrived and sides were missing (that part of the order was never put in); wine came well after our meals arrived (and the waiter put the bottle somewhere away from our table so we had to ask to get more of our own wine); order cheese serving for dessert and it came with no description of what was what (when we asked, the waiter had to go to the kitchen and find out). Service simply went from bad to worse. Because the food was so good, I would consider going back and would just make sure that my table was in the main dining room or the upstairs terrace.

Great food and lovely ambiance. The Early Bird at the bar is great value for wines by the glass and oysters-- a good reason arrive in advance of your reservation and take advantage of the soothing early evening neighborhood bar scene. We liked BOBO so much we brought friends visiting from Belgium...they definitely approved of the frites!

We enjoyed very much the dinner. The fish of the catch was excellent with grilled carrot. The oysters were fresh, cauliflower soup was very delicious, and the wines were tasty. We appreciated the quietness and relaxed environment. If you are in NYC, you know what I'm saying.

Great restaurant, menu was inspired and the wine list surprisingly varied! The staff was engaged and focused on making the entire evening a great experience! The somelier and waitstaff took the time to understand what we were looking for both in the wine selection and food choice. They were knowledgable and helpful, and the descriptions were accurate! Sit have a drink at the bar and then move to your table for a wonderful dinner, and don't miss the desserts!

My fiancé proposed to me this past Sunday morning at our home in the west village and then we had brunch at Bobo with a group of 5. The service was wonderful, there was champagne waiting for us at the table on the house. It was such lovely warm service, the perfect spot to celebrate. The tables in the back garden are easily the best and the crab cake benedict was a huge hit.

Went to Bobo with my mother while she was in town. We were looking for some place with delicious food more on the higher end and some place we could dress up a little fancier. Bobo was such a great choice. The food and cocktails were spot on and the ambiance was cozy and romantic. I had the ravioli to start and the duck as my entree. The seasonal cocktails were yummy and unique, and went perfectly with appetizers. I will definitely be coming back for my next special occasion!

We had a fabulous dinner with friends. It was a fun and lively place. My scallops and risotto were perfectly done. The others had steak cooked to everyone desire. The pace of service was perfect and the unobtrusive. My only complaint was that although our waiter was terrific, he didn't know the French menu. It wasn't necessary for him to be or speak French but if you order coquilles saint Jacques, he should not ask you if that is the scallops.

The garden seating is excellent and probably the best aspect of this space that's somewhat reminiscent of the narrow style of Jojo. The portions for appetizers and entrees are wildly inconsistent and don't necessarily fall requisite with what you'd expect for the prices. The $3/ea oysters are small. The steak tartare is bordering on meal size. The octopus salad had about 1/2 of a tentacle chopped into 4 1/2" portions. The pasta entrees were clearly appetizer size, while the steak au poivre was quite filling. The $12 desserts are 3-4 bites each of mediocrity.

Excellent waiter, Mark. They have thumping music from the bar and through the speaker above our table. Our waiter had the speaker turned down which made it much more enjoyable. Food was good but not outstanding. The bar is very loud and they are proud of it. Unfortunately that music comes through the floor and seating. Not sure why the owners think loud makes the food taste better... I would spend more if the environment was tolerable.

In NYC for a girls weekend and searched for just the right combination of vibe, menu, uniqueness and we found it at Bobo. We all enjoyed our beginning cocktails and appetizers (Oysters and Steak Tartare), and the entrees (Steak Au Poivre, Roasted Rack of Lamb) and the wine pairing that was suggested with our meal. We were treated well by the staff, and they took care of our questions and needs. When something came up, they handled it well. I would recommend that they turn the volume down a notch....its very hard to hear.... and perhaps increase the light a notch.... saw many using their iphones to read the menus. As it got busier, our server seemed to disappear, helping others, but we were covered by others who were covering the floor.

My party of 6 really had an enjoyable evening and a good meal at Bobo. Our waiter, Michael was friendly, helpful and competent. The owner stopped by to see how we were doing and was genuinely interested in our comments. The food was straightforward and well-prepared. I call it good honest food rather than any overly complicated, let us show you how clever we can be culinary trend setting food. We'll be back. It was our first time here and it was obvious to us that this place is owned and staffed by people who really care. Good value.

I went to BOBO Restaurant twice, the first time because friends from France wanted to try, they found the place nice so we stayed to eat. We were disappointed since it was expensive regarding the small portion. We decide to go back two years later….the same. Expensive, the food is not fine cuisine, desert super small and it is $12 so really it not worse it at all. We are french so we know about small quantities but still….

... i LOVE this place - always have - its one of the coolest restaurants in nyc - all those insufferable trendy nightmare restaurants in the same neighborhood don't hold a candle. weirdly - it's never loud or crowded, The space is odd - someone's living room, basement bar scene, outdoor terrace - all of it...romantic . They get it right with the temp. and the lighting. The service is impeccable but not cloying. the wine list is intelligent. the food is solid - it's not out of this world - but its tasty. if this places closed or got re discovered, i'd kill myself. last note: its one of the best first date restaurants,

Great meal from beginning to end. Was a recommendation from a foodie friend and went to celebrate another friend's birthday along with my lively 83 yr old mom. We sat upstairs in the garden and it was as if we were transported out of NY to a roof garden oasis. The food was very good and the wait staff knowledgeable and friendly. Owner or front of the house person sat at our table and we had an unexpectedly relaxed but in depth conversation. Will come back for drinks at the upper bar.

Every year my wife and I try to find a new and unique restaurant for us to treat the other to on our birthdays. This year I discovered Bobo's and it fit the bill perfectly. We started with wine & oysters at the bar during Happy Hour, excellent. We then moved to our table outside, past the second floor dining room. The décor and feel of the rooms was cozy and nostalgic. My wife doesn't eat meat (but she does enjoy everything else including seafood), and was pleasantly surprised by the number of offerings that meet her tastes. We tried three appetizers and I had the special hanger steak which was delicious. Our waiter recommended an excellent red and white wine for us and was a pleasure to deal with. Overall a wonderful experience.

This is such a beautiful restaurant! We were sat upstairs in the 2nd floor dining room. It reminded us of the pretty, Gothic places of New Orleans. The food was really great! If you're going to the Village Vanguard (around teh orner) or Smalls (next door), this is a terrific place to go for an early dinner before the show. When we went Happy Hour was from 5-7 PM, with a nice selection of wines at $ 6 per glass. The pre-theater prix fixe dinner was $ 35 for 3 courses, so it's a great deal for value.
