A word from Bobby Van's Steakhouse - 54th Street
"At Bobby Vans 54th Street, you can expect the same great service and the same great food as our other restaurants. Tucked away in another historic restaurant location, (at one time this was the hang out spot for such stars as Frank Sinatra and the rest of the Rat Pack) there is plenty of history and untold stories behind these walls, if only they could talk. Conveniently located just east of Park Avenue and 4 blocks north of The Waldorf-Astoria, this is where you want to be. As you walk into the restaurant you’re greeted by our hosts and a large credenza filled with beautiful bottles of wine. Glancing to your left you overlook the spacious yet always occupied bar, where the bartenders know your name and have your drink waiting for you before you can even say hello. Separating the bar from the dining room is a glass window so you can see all the action of other diners enjoying their meals. The dining room has the good old fashioned steakhouse style with handcrafted wood walls, and FContinued

Diner Reviews
  • "Food was awesome! Lobster and crab appetizers and the porterhouse steak for 2 with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Yuuuuuummy. Only complaint is that our waiter sort of disappeared right after we ordered dessert and then we were taken care of by another waiter after waiting a few minutes...strange."

  • "I took my husband to this restaurant as part of his birthday present. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. There were children in the restaurant, but they were well-behaved. The food was excellent. We both had fillet mignons, medium rare, and that's the way they came."

  • "One of NYC's best steakhouses. Service, food, setting, etc. - all great. Love eating here. Always memorable"

  • "Had the tuna tartar, which was nothing special, and the smoked bacon slab which great. Spinach and mashed potatoe sides were good. I had the Gorgonzola steak. Very good but very rich. My boyfriend had the special: long bone in rib eye 32 oz. It was monstrous and amazing! They set us at a quick table in the back and have complimentary cheesecake with a candle! So romantic! Pablo our waiter was very accommodating."

  • "I love this location on 54th St. Casual and homey atmosphere. Host to the wait staff are attentive and inviting. Food is terrific. Escargot, calamari and salads are a great start. The tomahawk special, porterhouse, ribeye are all tasty and prepared to your liking. The hash browns are good but the brussel sprouts are exceptional. I had the sea bass entree one night and it rivaled their steaks. It was that good. Not a flashy place, but a comfortable one."

  • "I always have a vert good experience at Bobby Van's My guest was a vegeterian and checked out the menu on-line and told me that it was a perfect place to have lunch. She had the mixed vegetable dish and I had the Filet Mignon. Everything was cooked to perfection and the deserts were delectable."

  • "I will definitely go back. Service was superb. We were seated immediately upon our arrival, My husband ordered the Sirloin which was delicious and cooked perfectly. I had the lamb chops and they were also delicious. Nice wine list, but we were too full for desert even though it looked very good. ."

  • "Bobby Van's 54th has a staff that is old school and does everything right. This is a differentiator among a host of good midtown meat spots, plus the room is clubby and pleasant."

  • "We went here on a Friday night and loved it! We chose this location even though it was a farther walk than the other Bobby Van's because of the menu choices. We got a bottle of wine and had the fried calamari which was excellent. We both ordered the filet and 8 ounce lobster tail. It was absolutely fantastic. In fact, neither my husband or myself could finish the filet because it was so big. The bread basket was good and dinner was so great we were too full to try dessert. The service was great and our waiter was very nice. We will be going again on our next visit to NYC. Next time, we will probably go earlier and enjoy the bar for a little while. Looked like a fun bar and the atmosphere is great."

  • "The restaurant was very busy - tables constantly full as well as the bar. The service was excellent - the right amount of attention without being annoying or lacking. The food was delicious and served at the right speed - especially considering how busy it was. The steaks were done as ordered."

  • "Great food and service - been to this location 3 times now and each has been wonderful. Fantastic French Onion soup and a perfect steak. If I had to mention anything negative it would be that I was not enthusiastic about the sautéed spinach. Not bad, just that it was chopped spinach and sautéed not leafy and sautéed."

  • "The menu was vwry limited for restaurant week. I was expecting a nice steak but that was not on the menu. I had to settle for steak skirt. Next time I will find out what restaurant serves steak at the steak houses. I don't think I will go back to Bobby Vans that was my first time and last time."

  • "Whatever cow gave it's life for our dinning experience I can say it did not go in vain. The rib eye steak was cooked beautifully to our request and every bite was part of a meat eater's pleasure. The sides where equally good but didn't over shadow the main event the meat. From the min u walk in the door u R treated like a welcomed guest, by the time u leave you're already talking about coming back again soon. I highly recommended this restaurant to all foodies and to all those that just enjoy a really nice place to have dinner. So look for it on 54 St in Manhattan you won't be disappeared."

  • "As a Texas, I know steaks, and the t-bone for 2 is fantastic. Great char, perfectly medium rare. My favorite non Kobe steak in America."

  • "Since we sat in a small private room of only 4 tables, the sound was quiet and it was very leisurely. We enjoyed that room better than if we had to sit in the main area which was quite noisy. Thank you. Everything was excellent and our waiter was the most accommodating."

  • "Food is second to none. The steak is always cooked as ordered, waiters are great and the restaurant is in a cozy location in a residential area. This is my second trip to your restaurant in the past month, it is the BEST STEAKHOUSE in New York or anywhere else. Your New York Strip Steak cannot be equalled anywhere (and this comes from a serious steak eater who has eaten in just about every well known steak house). Especially with Maurizio as my waiter (I have had him both times and he is truly excellent and a credit to your restaurant), the steak comes out exactly as ordered (extra charred outside and medium well inside). I know that you are under publicized compared to the others, but, believe me, you have not a thing to worry about."

  • "The sauces and side dishes shine at Bobby Van's, but the meat doesn't compare to their competitors. For truly aged beef, go to Sparks or Smith and Wollensky."

  • "It is always hard to trust internet reviews when you decide to pick a place but this time the reviews were dead on. Bobby Van's was amazing, probably the best steak I ever had, and that is no easy feat, I eat a lot of stake (I'm for Brazil). Even though it is a bit on the pricey side, it is totally worth it. Not a lot of tourists, but usually packed. Highly recommended, 5 stars!"

  • "Extensive menu, but if you're going for NYC Restaurant Week, you have to request the menu. My fiancé ordered the Filet Mignon, which was the better choice. I ordered the skirt steak (not on the normal menu), but it was too sweet - tasted more like teriyaki beef."

  • "I have to say one of my best tasting steaks - really really good - but the service we really bad. I am giving a very good only for the food not the service - this is the first steak house I have ever been where the service wasn't up to par. but I would go back for the steak and just with an open mind that service will not be good -"

  • "I regularly frequent steakhouses and for the first time in a long time, an absolutely top notch experience, the service was spectacular but the food... possibly the first time every single appetizer, the shrimp, the baked clams, the oysters and the apple wood bacon was AMAZING!!! The Cajun Rib Eye... WOW... WOW... WOW... perfectly cook Medium with just the right amount of charring on the outside... have already made reservations to go back in 2 weeks..."

  • "The food was very good, cooked perfectly according to my preference. The atmosphere was high paced and a little on the noisy side but nothing too overwhelming. The configuration of the seating was a little tight but you're not on top of the people eating around you. If I were single I wouldn't take a girl here on a first date, I wouldn't say it's a romantic spot. For my wife and I it was a great place for an amazing bone in ribeye and some great sides to go with it. The prices were moderate which I was surprised at, I was expecting it to be a little pricier, so this was definitely great."

  • "You cant go wrong with bobby vans. Consistently great food, wine and atmosphere. only down tick during lunch is the noise get there at noon and its quiet .. get there at 12:30 pm and you'll be convinced you need a hearing aid to hear others sitting right next to you.. Don't know of anything that can be done to fix it so its better just to "tough it out" and enjoy the show... Big question--how do you get your name on one of those brass plates all throughout the restaurant?"

  • "My girlfriend and I went her the other night we both wanted a really good steak and that's exactly what we got. The food was so good. I has the bone in ribeye and highly recommend it. Also the brussel sprouts were amazing. Our waiter Mike was really good. Made us feel like we were part of his family and took good care of us. It was very loud in there with lots of business men shouting to each other and the bar was full. The down side is the price very expensive when you add everything up plus drinks. Jack and Coke for $16 is outrageous."

  • "For top-level NY Steak house prices, I expect the food to be outstanding. Ruth Chris (LI) blows this food away. Porterhouse Steak needed sauce, Onion soup bland., apple dessert dry, sides unremarkable."

  • "I went here with a friend that was visiting New York. The service started out pretty rocky because they were inattentive, but they rebounded in the second half of the meal. Excellent steak, good crab cakes, and a nice reasonably priced bottle of wine. I can envision it being really noisy in this place at times, but I will consider coming back here"

  • "My wife and I go out to dinner a few times a month. It has been a while since we dined at a restaurant that had it all. Great food, great service, great atmosphere and it was affordable! It was our first time there and our server made us feel like we have been going there for years! I am glad we chose it to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary. We will be back soon."
