A word from Bobby Van's Steakhouse - 54th Street
"At Bobby Vans 54th Street, you can expect the same great service and the same great food as our other restaurants. Tucked away in another historic restaurant location, (at one time this was the hang out spot for such stars as Frank Sinatra and the rest of the Rat Pack) there is plenty of history and untold stories behind these walls, if only they could talk. Conveniently located just east of Park Avenue and 4 blocks north of The Waldorf-Astoria, this is where you want to be. As you walk into the restaurant you’re greeted by our hosts and a large credenza filled with beautiful bottles of wine. Glancing to your left you overlook the spacious yet always occupied bar, where the bartenders know your name and have your drink waiting for you before you can even say hello. Separating the bar from the dining room is a glass window so you can see all the action of other diners enjoying their meals. The dining room has the good old fashioned steakhouse style with handcrafted wood walls, and FContinued

Diner Reviews
  • "the food was great as well as the serive, the desserts were only ok."

  • "While visiting NY, our group happened upon Bobby Van's on 54th. The service was exceptional, only to be topped by our dinner. We will definitely be back on our next trip."

  • "My husband and I started with the shrimp cocktail and oysters on 1/2 shell. Shrimp while big had no flavor. Oysters filled with water and sand, probably the worst I have had. Bacon, again appeared appetizing-mostly fat. Porterhouse for two, was the highlight of the meal! cooked perfect, and had great flavor. Cocktails were also excellent, we each had a Manhattan it was big and made While this is a steak house and the steak was excellent the rest of the meal should be too."

  • "I used a Groupon here and surprisingly they didn't cancel my OpenTable reservation as they usually do. Glad they didn't because now I can review. The service was great until the end of the evening where I felt like I was being forced to finish and leave quickly (only 11 PM on a Friday). The food was good but they have increased their prices. $55 per person for a porterhouse is above any top of the line steakhouse. The problem I had was that the menu on their website and the Groupon site did not match the price in the restaurant. The value of the Groupon was much lower than expected because of the price increase. To sum up, although the food was good, this will be the last time I attend this restaurant. I don't like being duped."

  • "This was my second visit and just as good as the first. Food was excellent and exactly as ordered. The waiter (Juan Pablo) gave the right amount of attention without hovering and was sociable too. Didn't throw the bill at us when we didn't want dessert like some places do."

  • "Had a good meal, but it was so loud. Very difficult to have a work lunch."

  • "Came here to celebrate the 5th anniversary with my boyfriend, we were immediately seated by the corner which was fantastic! The servers are really friendly and attentive, the food were great! Crab cake and crabmeat cocktail was awesome, porterhouse steak is also cooked as order!! We used groupon offer and didn't feel that we were mistreated at all. Overall, love this restaurant and will return for sure!"

  • "Steak, lobster tail and lamb chops were excellent. Not so with ceasar salad(no shaved Parmesan cheese, lettuce no so fresh). Brought out salad simultaneous with appetizers."

  • "Bobby Vans is a decent steakhouse, but among the competition in NYC is only average. It's little things that make it a second-tier choice for when the more rated steakhouses have no availability. The noise in the dining area is deafening - you have to yell to your companions. The waiter was professional and pleasant, but disappeared for long stretches to attend to group tables (with bigger tips) so we poured our own wine and water. The steak was good, and flavorful, but 1/6 of it was a "tail" of inedible grizzle - you can't charge $50 for a steak like that. The sides were average. The hash browns need a makeover - who puts green and red peppers in hash browns? We will continue to go to BV when our mainstay steakhouses are booked."

  • "Bobby Van's is a no-brainer choice for serious meat lovers. There are lots of steakhouses in NYC, this has to be on everyone's short list. (Lunch has great burgers too.)"

  • "Steaks were great and the manhattan was fantastic. Ask for french red wine recomendation and to my surprise it was very moderately priced. Nice evening although ambiance is nothing special."

  • "The food was great but very quiet at our reservation time, 5:30. This was the only time available on the website and yet the restaurant was totally empty."

  • "Very attentive staff without being overbearing. Shrimp cocktail was huge, steaks were perfect. A special note about Jim, our waiter. Fantastic! Will definitely return."

  • "Way better than Peter Luger's. Peter Lugers hospitality has little to be desired. Bobby Vans they took us in no problem and was very formal polite etc. They were right there getting what you wanted. It was full and the service was still amazingly. Wow."

  • "Absolutely delicious porterhouse steak. Very tender, melts in your mouth!"

  • "Bobby Van's offers great steaks-and when not super great they are super accommodating! Always enjoyable meal with good service, good portions, and tasty food. Slight problem was fixed without any issue-a sign of a really good restaurant. Will return as soon as possible."

  • "We choose this restaurant because it was close to the theater we were attending that evening. Service was very good, but my husband ordered the flank steak and it was awful. It was drowning in barbecue sauce. The caesar salad didn't even have anchovies and it also had too much dressing. He also ordered a glass of house wine. I had soup and salad. The French onion soup was very salty, but the tomatoes and mozzarella was fine. We left without dessert and the bill with minimal tip was over $100."

  • "Our server was AWESOME! He made great recommendations and made a special visit from home spectacular! I wish I could remember his name or I'd recommend everyone sit in his section! But I'm sure they are all stellar!"

  • "The steak (rib-eye) was one of the best I have had in a long time and we hit a NYC steak house very month if not more often. The sides however were lackluster and that is not acceptable in a place like Bobby Vans. The creamed spinach was flavorless and more cream than spinach. The Brown Betty apple pie was a pleasant surprise. Total disclosure we went on a groupon- so despite the disappointing sides the overall experience was well worth it and an excellent value. The steak portions are very generous including the filet."

  • "My wife and I used a Groupon on a Saturday night. I don't feel like we were treated any differently because of it. In fact, all the tables around us had one too. The food was really great. Specifically I would recommend the porterhouse and the slab bacon. I can't imagine eating there again without a Groupon for quite some time because it is soooo expensive. Definitely a special occasion type of place."

  • "Bobby Van's Restaurant was very expensive The filet mignon was OK. One baked potato was $7. I would not go back even with a coupon. Dinner for two people was about $250. "

  • "My fiance and I had dinner here on a Saturday night during a recent weekend excursion to NYC. We used a Groupon deal for our meal;, which made this fine-dining experience more economical for us. The server was excellent, the food was awesome (taste and quantity), and the atmosphere of the restaurant was upscale and energetic. I would recommend this establishment to friends, and would be happy to visit again! The location also made it easy to get to from our midtown hotel, which was a big plus!"

  • "Great resturant, good service, good looking steaks, but definitely when it comes to the actual steaks, the emphasis is on quantity and visual impact vs taste. the tomahawk bone in ribeye is massive and impressive looking and cooked well, but the meat is flavourless grainfed junk. "

  • "we had a lovely meal. while we were a large group and everything came out hot, it took a while to get our main courses. otherwise, its a great steakhouse. no fuss no muss. good meat. "

  • "Food was awesome! Lobster and crab appetizers and the porterhouse steak for 2 with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Yuuuuuummy. Only complaint is that our waiter sort of disappeared right after we ordered dessert and then we were taken care of by another waiter after waiting a few minutes...strange."

  • "I took my husband to this restaurant as part of his birthday present. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. There were children in the restaurant, but they were well-behaved. The food was excellent. We both had fillet mignons, medium rare, and that's the way they came."

  • "Had the tuna tartar, which was nothing special, and the smoked bacon slab which great. Spinach and mashed potatoe sides were good. I had the Gorgonzola steak. Very good but very rich. My boyfriend had the special: long bone in rib eye 32 oz. It was monstrous and amazing! They set us at a quick table in the back and have complimentary cheesecake with a candle! So romantic! Pablo our waiter was very accommodating."

  • "I love this location on 54th St. Casual and homey atmosphere. Host to the wait staff are attentive and inviting. Food is terrific. Escargot, calamari and salads are a great start. The tomahawk special, porterhouse, ribeye are all tasty and prepared to your liking. The hash browns are good but the brussel sprouts are exceptional. I had the sea bass entree one night and it rivaled their steaks. It was that good. Not a flashy place, but a comfortable one."

  • "I always have a vert good experience at Bobby Van's My guest was a vegeterian and checked out the menu on-line and told me that it was a perfect place to have lunch. She had the mixed vegetable dish and I had the Filet Mignon. Everything was cooked to perfection and the deserts were delectable."

  • "I will definitely go back. Service was superb. We were seated immediately upon our arrival, My husband ordered the Sirloin which was delicious and cooked perfectly. I had the lamb chops and they were also delicious. Nice wine list, but we were too full for desert even though it looked very good. ."

  • "Bobby Van's 54th has a staff that is old school and does everything right. This is a differentiator among a host of good midtown meat spots, plus the room is clubby and pleasant."
