A word from Bobby Van's Park Avenue - 'The Original'
Located in New York's landmark Helmsley Building, Bobby Van's Steakhouse has been serving the best porterhouse in town for the last eleven years. Upon entering, one is greeted with the sight of a credenza groaning under the weight of large bottles of wine. A bar full of regular customers is on the left and looking into the one-hundred seat dining room, one sees the thirty foot high ceiling and windows overlooking Park Avenue. To complement our Prime Aged Steaks our Sommelier has created an award winning wine list. Whether you're looking for a big Cabernet, a Pinot Noir or something in between our comprehensive list is sure to please. "Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Went for my first restaurant week dinner. I was skeptical about discounted city food but was blown away. The service was good and felt welcomed. The resty week menu had petit fillet...there was nothing petit about this fillet mignon. They cooked it to a perfect medium rare and it melted in my mouth. The best fillet I've ever had. Need to go again and try the porterhouse next time."

  • "I was really looking forward to this dinner, but was disappointed by a few things: 1) the waiter was in a hurry, we hadn't sat down for 2 seconds and he was already asking what we wanted to drink (wine or cocktails) without handing out the wine list. This continued around dinner as well, and the place wasn't even half full for a Saturday night. The food was nothing notable, I ordered the mini fillet, medium rare, and it was more like medium well, and when we were ready to pay, it was hard to find any waiters because they seemed to be hanging out at the back or at the bar. The ambiance wasn't anything memorable to be honest. I probably wont be back."

  • "If you plan to spend the kind of money that Bobby Van's commands, there are too many great restaurants (notably, steakhouses) in NYC to go to Bobby Vans. The food was good, but the wait staff wasn't flexible in accommodating drink needs or dinner substitutions. While it was restaurant week, and that may have been the reason, I've had too many phenomenal experiences at STK, DelFrisco's, DelMonicos, The Palm, and the myriad of other top-tier steakhouses in NYC to go back to Bobby Vans."

  • "The service was probably the best I have ever received. The bartender recommended an excellent wine, the host was friendly and the servers had perfect timing...not to mention the food was out of this world. If you have never been here, it is definitely time to experience this spot for yourself!"

  • "Went during NY restaurant week, and while the steak was tender, it had no flavor. I can make a better steak at home. The dessert was disappointing as well, the cheesecake was ok, but we also had bread pudding, and it was awful. I guess I am spoiled by Nordstrom cafe's bread pudding. I would not go back to this restaurant again."

  • "is how I start because my co-worker and friend took me to the Park Avenue location for lunch, thinking it was Restaurant Week at this locale. However, it was not and the prices were a bit high for my friend. However, we ate there toning down our order. The staff and wait person treated us as if we were spending big bucks. There were professional, speedy and kind. Now the food was worth every price on the menu, I had a salad, which was huge and she had a shrimp dish. ABSOLUTELY the best I've tasted in a high-end posh restaurant and I will be going back."

  • "This place is very practical since it is next to my work, I really like to bring clients for business lunch, recently I noticed a bit more noise than usage and decrease on service quality"

  • "Always good food. Waitress did a great job! Food was excellent - a crab meat cocktail and a rib eye. The wine selection is very good, but starting to become a bit expensive! Sometimes the restaurant seems a bit noisy and I wish the bar area was larger."

  • "My favorite restaurant, anywhere. Food was off the charts. Service fabulous, Sam was attentive without being overly so, comfortably friendly. Soft shell crabs, pork chops, chicken marsala, filet, great sides, desserts, wine. Part of a great NYC day. Maybe I'm over the top, but it's that good."

  • "I have been to this restaurant a few times in my years... The steaks are always great! This time was special because of two excellent waiters! George & his fellow server (can't remember his name). They made us feel really welcomed, took care of us and we even had a nice conversation! Thank you so much! I can tell you guys really enjoy your jobs!"

  • "Went to Bobby Van's on Saturday evening after a day in the City. Everyone wanted a good steak. The food was very good, the the gem was the service. The wait staff went out of their way to make a very enjoyable meal. Service was outstanding but unobtrusive, witty, and gregarious. All around a great experience."

  • "We made reservations through Opentable for lunch and I requested a quiet corner table so that we could be able to speak. The restaurant could not be MORE accommodating and friendly, food excellent, services great and they weren't overly in your face. Vey very pleased."

  • "Lump crab meat appetizer was fantastic. I'd order two next time, and skip the steak. The petite fillet was Huge (10 ounces), but a request for medium turned out to be medium rare. Services was outstanding. and responsive. I was surprised there is no dessert menu."

  • "I have been to Bobby Vans for both business dinners and family dinners. The staff is very pleasant and the food very good. The restaurant is very loud and suitable for a boisterous table which we happened to be this time. Steaks and sides are delicious."

  • "Classic steakhouse if you need one in midtown. Great service topped off with good food. Exactly what you would expect from your NYC American steakhouse. "

  • "Always a pleasure to eat here. Outstanding service and very good food, with the usual generous portions. I am glad that I have a mile walk to get there and the same on return! My companion's steak lokked excellent, and my salmon special with the horseradish topping was excellent. Definiteky a venue for a 'proper' lunch Renoir "

  • "Best dry-aged steak I've had in years! Meat and veggies were cooked perfectly and delivered by a knowledgeable staff with the ability to easily assist with excellent wine-pairings without being pretentious. "

  • "Had a great evening attentive but not intrusive service. Knowledgeable staff that have seen it all. Food was all cooked to order and hot . Steaks and sides done to perfection from rare to medium well, no complaints from the table.I have never had a $14.00 soup of the day but the Beef Barley soup was well above average, but it still is beef barley soup, $14.00 is high even for NYC. Beverages we're well executed and complimented the meal. This trend of selling you 8 oz soft drinks in bottles at exorbitant prices per beverage has to stop, after all somebody has to drive these days. On top of spending $14.00 for your bowl of soup and $50.00 plus for steaks plus sides, alcohol etc. give us a break on the diet coke, things can't be that bad."

  • "I may not choose the right dish. My fish was really overcooked (dry). My husband had meat and he liked it. It is not a place to go with friends... to have a long meal... they asked us to leave about 10:30pm.... Not my kind of place."

  • "Right in an office building, it has enough comfortable atmosphere for any good dining experience! Lots more than steak, and all the sides are superb. Food is excellent, service is great, and you will walk away happy."

  • "Food was good... compared to all the other steakhouses out there.. the palm, mortons, capital grill, peter lugar... it was just ok.. with so many other choices out there.. maybe ill be back. Nothing really sets them apart or stands out though. "

  • "I visited Bobby Vans during Restaurant Week. The menu was very good and the portions were a good size as well. The staff was extremely courteous and attentive. My only negative was the bread pudding. I would not recommend it at all. I didn't want to get the cheesecake bc as a New Yorker I feel like I have cheesecake ALL the time, but I should have gone with old faithful. I highly recommend this restaurant."
