Bobby Van’s Grill marks the return of the powerful New York City chop shop to the downtown D.C. area but with a new twist. This eclectic New American Steakhouse now boasts a slightly more casual family friendly atmosphere as well as catering to the Washington politician. This 536-seat D.C. destination is fully loaded! There’s four private, intimate and upscale dining rooms with their own bar and bar services. Two 40-foot long bars can be found with friendly bartenders serving strong drinks and even stronger conversations. The main dining room boasts views of both New York Avenue and the plush marble atrium of the adjoining building amidst its beautiful water fountain.   • "My boyfriend and I celebrated his birthday there at the New York Ave. Bobby Van's. Our waiter was completely knowledgeable about every item on the menu. Warning -- the side dish portion are well beyond more than enough for two, as well as the salads. The Caesar salad wasn't a stand-out, but everything else we tried was: the Cajun ribeye (superb, boyfriend ate it all, and it was huge!), his loaded baked potato which again, was enough for more than two people...and my sea bass on a bed of risotto with a wonderfully rich (but not too) sauce, was cooked to perfection. All followed by creme' brulee for dessert, and we were happy! Extensive wine list as well. We'll be back."

  • "While the steaks are very good, don't miss the seafood. I started with 6 oysters on the half shell and wished I had opted for the full dozen. My husband had the rainbow trout, and I had the sea bass with grilled shrimp. Both were very, very good. Also, make sure to try the bread. The basket included 2 pieces that were like soft pretzels and they were the best! You have a choice of spicy mustard or butter, and I recommend the mustard for the pretzels. I would have requested more of the soft pretzels, but didn't want to ruin my appetite. The service is attentive, but not intrusive. Hope to see you there!"

  • "My husband and I went for dinner to celebrate a special occasion. We both had the petite filet, which was larger than most restaurant's regular portion - both were cooked to perfection. The sides were perfectly cooked and seasoned as well. But, be prepared; the food isn't cheap, even with the 1/2 wine. If you go on a night when they offer a price fixed menu you can save."

I have been there over 12 times in the last year and I have never been disappointed. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want great food and great service! Everything on the menu is perfectly prepared and they give huge portions, so you will get your money's worth. I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant and tell everyone if they are DC that they MUST eat at Bobby Van's Grill on NY Ave. All of the waiters are great, but I especially want to point out Linda who is just AWESOME! They all go the extra mile to ensure the patrons are well taken care of! Must go here!"

  • "This was my first time dining here. While the service was rather slow, the food was great. It was a beautiful day and we sat on the patio. The chairs are not comfortable and because the tables are so close to the sidewalk you are subjected to the random homeless person who decided to stand on the sidewalk and harass the restaurant patrons. It was rather unsettling. I would return simply because the food was good. Next time, however, I will be dining indoors."

It didn't take long to get a nice bottle of wine on the table and from there on out the night went smooth. Hal was great and very responsive and even added a little humor to the night. If you want a great dinner there try the filet and the cajun ribeye a perfect mix of flavor and spice and a filet that went down like butter."
