Bobby Van’s Grill marks the return of the powerful New York City chop shop to the downtown D.C. area but with a new twist. This eclectic New American Steakhouse now boasts a slightly more casual family friendly atmosphere as well as catering to the Washington politician. This 536-seat D.C. destination is fully loaded! There’s four private, intimate and upscale dining rooms with their own bar and bar services. Two 40-foot long bars can be found with friendly bartenders serving strong drinks and even stronger conversations. The main dining room boasts views of both New York Avenue and the plush marble atrium of the adjoining building amidst its beautiful water fountain.   • "When you start with great Service it sets the tone for the night. I was there with my wife for our anniversary, and we were greeted when we walked in and seated in a timely fashion. It didn't take long to get a nice bottle of wine on the table and from there on out the night went smooth. Hal was great and very responsive and even added a little humor to the night. If you want a great dinner there try the filet and the cajun ribeye a perfect mix of flavor and spice and a filet that went down like butter."

  • "We walked by this restaurant on our first day in DC and we all agreed we wanted to try it. No regrets! Steaks are served al a carte. The filet was tasty and prepared correctly. Veal parmigiana was very good. Cutlets were a bit thick but otherwise excellent. Hash brown potatoes and Brussel sprouts were yummy. We could not finish it all! Also had tomato mozzarella salad and tomato basil soup were also extremely well prepared. We picked this as our best meal of our 5 dinners in DC. Expensive but worth it!"

  • "If you like steaks, chops and seafood, you will really enjoy Bobby Van's. The Bobby's Crab Cake was bursting full of lump crab meat - delicious and worth the price. The Gaspacho was excellent. Not too much oil and vinegar (common rookie mistake). The pork chop was done perfectly and so tender. The goat cheese stuffed chicken was not thta flavorful but the accompanying sauce more than made up. The sides for two are every bit as good as Morton's. The Mary was very spicy - heavy on the hot sauce. Chardonnay was really quite good and a generous portion. Martinis at table over looked tasty. Service was attentive. Background music was an easy listening station. Seemed out of place. Bathrooms are a bit out of the way. 2 blks from Metro."

  • "We dined at BVG while on vacation in Washington DC with out teenage son. Our waiter was fantastic and made great recommendations on both the food and the wine. We got the 42 oz porterhouse because he said it was their specialty and he wasn't wrong. Our steak was cooked to perfection and was large enough to feed all three of us. The portions on the sides are very generous, so no need to get too many! We ordered creamed spinach and sautéed mushrooms and barely made a dent in them. We ended up going on a Friday night and we were pleased to see that on Friday and Saturday nights they have certain wines that are 1/2 price. We had a wonderful Duckhorn Cabernet for 1/2 price, which is definitely something we haven't seen before!"

The staff was extremely friendly and attention; the saxophone player was an excellent touch (and very crowd friendly), and the food was very good. We ordered the Seafood Bouqet for an appetiser; I would highly recommend it. For diner, my husband ordered the NY Strip, and I ordered the Seabass and Shrimp. The steak was cooked to perfection, and I was definitely order the Seabass and Shrimp again. The restaurant was loud, but it was a Saturday night. We, personally, enjoyed the energy in the room. :-)"

Our waiter was outstanding and very attentive. Our cocktails were the best we had ever had and the steaks were so tender you didn't need a big steak knife to cut them.   • "This restaurant is right near my job and I usually go for lunch with my co-workers, but when LivingSocial had a deal for a dinner, I had to jump on it. I thought it would be nice for a date night with my boo and it was. THe atmospehere was nice, my waitress was awesome recommending entrees and wine (half of bottles on Friday and Saturday nights!) . I wish I remembered her name. I have no complaints at all and it will remain a go to spot for me."
