Bobby Van’s Grill marks the return of the powerful New York City chop shop to the downtown D.C. area but with a new twist. This eclectic New American Steakhouse now boasts a slightly more casual family friendly atmosphere as well as catering to the Washington politician. This 536-seat D.C. destination is fully loaded! There’s four private, intimate and upscale dining rooms with their own bar and bar services. Two 40-foot long bars can be found with friendly bartenders serving strong drinks and even stronger conversations. The main dining room boasts views of both New York Avenue and the plush marble atrium of the adjoining building amidst its beautiful water fountain.   • "We walked by this restaurant on our first day in DC and we all agreed we wanted to try it. No regrets! Steaks are served al a carte. The filet was tasty and prepared correctly. Veal parmigiana was very good. Cutlets were a bit thick but otherwise excellent. Hash brown potatoes and Brussel sprouts were yummy. We could not finish it all! Also had tomato mozzarella salad and tomato basil soup were also extremely well prepared. We picked this as our best meal of our 5 dinners in DC. Expensive but worth it!"

  • "We had a delicious dinner for our 20th Anniversary. The food and service was fabulous. Our Wedge salads, Rib Eye Steaks, Crab Mac N Cheese, Creamed Spinach and Mushrooms were perfect. The restaurant surprised us with a Bread Pudding Flambe Dessert in celebration!! It was wonderful!!"

  • "If you like steaks, chops and seafood, you will really enjoy Bobby Van's. The Bobby's Crab Cake was bursting full of lump crab meat - delicious and worth the price. The Gaspacho was excellent. Not too much oil and vinegar (common rookie mistake). The pork chop was done perfectly and so tender. The goat cheese stuffed chicken was not thta flavorful but the accompanying sauce more than made up. The sides for two are every bit as good as Morton's. The Mary was very spicy - heavy on the hot sauce. Chardonnay was really quite good and a generous portion. Martinis at table over looked tasty. Service was attentive. Background music was an easy listening station. Seemed out of place. Bathrooms are a bit out of the way. 2 blks from Metro."

  • "We dined at BVG while on vacation in Washington DC with out teenage son. Our waiter was fantastic and made great recommendations on both the food and the wine. We got the 42 oz porterhouse because he said it was their specialty and he wasn't wrong. Our steak was cooked to perfection and was large enough to feed all three of us. The portions on the sides are very generous, so no need to get too many! We ordered creamed spinach and sautéed mushrooms and barely made a dent in them. We ended up going on a Friday night and we were pleased to see that on Friday and Saturday nights they have certain wines that are 1/2 price. We had a wonderful Duckhorn Cabernet for 1/2 price, which is definitely something we haven't seen before!"

  • "I took my husband to Bobby Vans for his birthday. From the minute we walked in until the time we left, we were treated like we were the only ones in the restaurant. Our waiter was outstanding and very attentive. Our cocktails were the best we had ever had and the steaks were so tender you didn't need a big steak knife to cut them. Will definitely go back when we crave a good steak."

  • "We stumbled upon Bobby Van's Grill while spending a long weekend in D.C. The staff was extremely friendly and attention; the saxophone player was an excellent touch (and very crowd friendly), and the food was very good. We ordered the Seafood Bouqet for an appetiser; I would highly recommend it. For diner, my husband ordered the NY Strip, and I ordered the Seabass and Shrimp. The steak was cooked to perfection, and I was definitely order the Seabass and Shrimp again. The restaurant was loud, but it was a Saturday night. We, personally, enjoyed the energy in the room. :-)"

  • "This restaurant is right near my job and I usually go for lunch with my co-workers, but when LivingSocial had a deal for a dinner, I had to jump on it. I thought it would be nice for a date night with my boo and it was. THe atmospehere was nice, my waitress was awesome recommending entrees and wine (half of bottles on Friday and Saturday nights!) . I wish I remembered her name. I have no complaints at all and it will remain a go to spot for me."

  • "We visit this location frequently. Have always enjoyed the food and the service. Today's visit was made even better by a very attentive server! Helped make different choices. There was an item on the appetizer menu that I thought sounded like the perfect entrée to me, the scallops. He helped me order it as my dinner and it was not a mistake! Perfect portion size, tender and extremely well prepared. The flavor of the sauces was wonderful. He found out that we always order the same desert and its one of the primary reasons we go there, and when presented with the check the apple tart was free! Now that gives me great reasons for loving Bobby Vans Grill."

  • "I selected Bobby Van's to celebrate my graduation. I originally reserved seating for a party of 5, and had to change it to 12. The staff was more than willing to work with me. The restaurant has a large wine selection, we were able to get a bottle of wine at half price. The food was pricey, but it was worth it. The food was portioned either very large or reasonable considering the price. I plan on returning to Bobby Van's in the next couple of weeks."

  • "Bobby Vann's is noisy and expensive and best for hearty meat eaters. I avoid it unless I have a business lunch and the weather is bad. The omelet is really the only vegetarian choice. This week, it dud not have the ingredients u was promised: instead if cheese, sundries tomatoes and spinach, it had a few wisps of spinach and about one tablespoon of diced Unripened tomato. It had no flavor. The salad--red leaf lettuce--had a small blob if dressing. No one at my table of 4 seemed to enjoy his good much. Nonalcoholic vegetables and 4 entrees cost over $100. "

The waiter comes by and doesn't introduce himself, merely says 'hi' to my wife and 'hey man' to myself...Immediately I know Jose isn't going to be an enjoyable person. He bluntly asks what we would like to drink. I ask some simple questions about the menu, 'What is this Pittsburg style?', 'How big are the appetizers'. His replies sounded disgruntled and flustered to be questioned about items he'd be serving. He concludes curtly 'Anything else you want to know?' like I was ordering McDonald's and not a 45 dollar steak. Overall, we will not be returning due to the poor service of our waiter. And the steaks were just ok. Nothing worse the hassle of Mr. Grumpy Pants Jose. "

  • "We both ordered the 10 oz. filet special that included cheddar mashed potatoes and asparagus. I ordered my steak medium and my date ordered his butterflied medium. We noticed that his steak was half the thickness of mine, and ended up well done. We didn't complian or send it back. My medium steak was perfect!"
