Diner Reviews
  • "We were regular customers until January when we felt unappreciated by an awful visit to this restaurant, but last Saturday we decided to give it another try and we were gladly surprised by the warm welcoming, the friendliness and efficiency of the staf and the quality of the meal. We will be back to this place soon."

  • "Recall the Boathouse Horseshoe Bay as great food and view, these memories were quashed by a poor parking, fair service, and a med rare ordered steak that was very rare, reheated and still rare leaving blood on the plate and tough to boot at $29. No problem with the seafood all was good. Parking is also an issue, lot is way too small for an establishment with this reputation and price range. Gentlemen had to fetch the car and come back to pick up their wives after dinner."

  • "The boathouse is always a good choice. I was impressed with the amount of shrimp in my chicken and shrimp bowl which was really tasty, everyone enjoyed their meals and my husband always has his favourite the miso crusted halibut."

  • "This is our 4th unsatisfactory visit to the Horseshoe Bay Boathouse. We were regular customers but the food and service has gone downhill. We will not be back for awhile."

  • "Worse service at a Boathouse I have ever been too. Service was very slow and the waiters don't seem like they know what they are doing."

  • "This view is good. The waiter and the waitress are good. The food is fine. The oyster is fresh. Before paying your bil, please do double check it. Otherwise, you are overpaid. Would want to put the following in the private note but just too long and not allowed. Ordered a dozen oyster, only served with 11 Ordered strawberry water melon drink. No water melon changed my order to blueberry. No blueberry. Ordered the desert Brownie. No Brownie. The restaurant charged me the Brownie which without being served. The bill also charged me a dozen of oyster instead of 11. The service is fine (Nothing bad about the waiter and the waitress) but just the system is so bad."

  • "They were unexpectedly busy due to an amazing spring day so service was a little slow. Didn't matter to us. It was a long overdue visit with family so we were just fine."

  • "The food was good, the view was lovely and the atmosphere was very nice. The service was slow but pleasant. I think our waiter forgot about us a few times. If you are in a hurry, this is probably not the place to go as we went on a Monday night, the restaurant was mostly empty and yet our server was often nowhere to be seen. Bottom line, I would go back - food and view made up for service and we had a lovely time."

  • "We found the service slow, the prices were very high for the dishes received, the restaurant was cold-make sure you bring a sweater!! One of our party ordered the blackened cod fish tacos, but was not warned that it was beyond spicy, she was not able to eat it, the restaurant did take the dish off her bill which was a plus for them. The noise level was high, it was hard to talk to each other at the table. It was a special occasion and we left not happy with the experience."

  • "A wonderful dinner from start to finish! The Seafood Chowder and the Boathouse Salad were both excellent starters. Our main course choices were halibut, prepared two different ways - it is an incredible fish. The apple crisp with sundried cranberries was a perfect dessert to share and end our evening."

  • "This was a special dinner for my husband's 80th Birthday and it went off just great. Our waitress, who I can't remember her name was just wonderful. End table, Sunday night the 2nd, eight of us. Food wad good if not a bit pricey especially the kids dinners. But apart from that no complaints!!"

  • "Staff shorages meant that the bartender was our server. I ordered steak but the kitchen prepared fish - consequently we waited a long time for our meals. My steak arrived cold and had to go back for a re-nuke. Management did offer a complimentary dessert which I followed with my favorite port - except that it was off, likely from a bottle that had been open for months or a substitute for my usual brand. With the view darkened by night, I might try it again for lunch but would be very wary about returning for dinner. Disappointing."

  • "We went to the Boathouse as we wanted to eat seafood on V Day. The restaurant was not too busy and the service was swift and good. Food arrived in time and only drawback on that day was the very much overpriced fixed menu. Ambience was decent for a boathouse location."

  • "the set menu all sounded great. we had a hard time deciding what we wanted to order, there were a lot of our favourite seafood options. we both ordered the steak and lobster tail combo. our steaks were a bit of a tough cut and we both felt that 4 oz lobster tail was a little on the small side for the price we were paying. it is hard to put flare into a set menu i realize when the chefs are putting out the same plates all night long and that is how it seemed. the food was good, and well prepared, just not great. the mocha ice cream cake was delicious and the portion was massive. we had a really sweet server who was nice and attentive but she seemed to have a problem describing the menu options to us."

  • "Great special Valentines Day menu. Awesome service and spectacular view."

  • "There was a set menu, but the selections were numerous. Portion sizes were large, especially the dessert. Took us over 2 hours to eat dinner at a moderate pace. The restaurant looks amazing at night with the reflections in the glass. The restaurant manager even came by our table to thank us for choosing them and to wish us a happy valentines day. 5 star service just for that. Parking seemed limited, we had a hotel booked down the road so it was a non issue for us. Overall great restaurant and we'll be back again, we'll worth the trek away from the rush everywhere else on valentines day."

  • "The food was very poor. The salad greens were not fresh and the lack of freshness wag covered up with dressing. The fish was over poked because the portion was too small. My first taste in the batter was armpit."

  • "All and All it was good, but not excellent.I had steak and lobster and the steak was a little over done and tough but the lobster was excellent. We did have a nice time though and are server was very good.I did request a table by the window when I made the reservation over a week ago and there was not one available when we arrived. We were right on time. This was the second time this has happened to us at the Boathouse.I realize that you cant always gaurantee a window seat but I was wondering how on a thursday night when there was not many people in the restaurant, how did everyone else get a window seat?Im sure they did not all have reservations made a week ago? Besides no window seat and the steak, everything else was very good!"

  • "My son and I enjoyed the California Benny with added back bacon. Once I was able to get hot water to replace the lukewarm pot of tea that I had, the food was very nice. This is a good-for-brunch or lunch restaurant. It has been rated 3-star and I would agree. Nothing outstandingly special, but nevertheless good all-round casual dining."

  • "3 of us dined at this restaurant and it really wasnt worth the money. Food only was over $120. The seafood seemed good but the prime rib wasnt very tender. None of us liked the potatoes. The bread was good though :-) Too expensive for a mediocre dinner, and we had requested a table by the window but we didnt get it. As our reservations were for 6:15pm I had hoped we would get a window seat."

  • "We have been going to the Horseshoe Bay Boathouse for my mother's birthday for over 15 years. Over the years we have seen the food quality decline while the price remained the same or increased. We typically always go for Lobster fest, but I must say, this was the worst year on record for their Lobster fest offering. The lobster was over-cooked, water-logged, and rubbery. In addition to the lobster quality decline, the rest of the dish has been going downhill. In the past, you were provided with garlic mashed potatoes and fine vegetables in an outstanding sauce. This year it was basic red potatoes, some wilted Chinese broccoli, and a corn on the cob slice? Corn on the cob? Really?"

  • "The Boathouse is a great place for a special occasion. The food is always delicious, the service good and the kids are always welcome. They put paper on the tables so the kids can colour on them. Fantastic view too!!"

  • "We enjoyed a lovely Dine Out Vancouver menu, lots of options for the meat or seafood lover. 3 courses were well chosen that were outstanding. We were 3 generations and each 1 of us enjoyed our dinner + wine. WVan Boathouse is always a favourite with us, and we were not dissappointed. Thank you Stephanie for great service & attention."

  • "I requested a window seating and didn't get one eventhough was avaialble. The seating girl informed me that it is based on the availability and non was avaialble and I so some spots available throught out our stay. May be my looks not good enough for a window seat for two."

  • "I ordered the $32 steak which was cooked to perfection (blue). My wife and son ordered the fish and chips which were the best they have had in a long time! My daughter had a child's mac and cheese, although this was good, it wasn't worth the money - she should have gone for a adult plate. The major disappointment for me were the vegetables that came with the steak. The roast potatoes had been reheated, and were soggy and cold. The only other vegetable were some broccolini, these were undercooked and very crunchy. I appreciate that I had a very rare steak, but even so... To be honest for the cost I would have expected more, perhaps fries and a good side salad?"

  • "The Dineout Vancouver menu was impressive, but the experience wasn't. The seafood chowder needs more seafood while the potatoes were overdone with a perfectly cooked fish. Also, in a near empty restaurant, one would expect a faster kitchen."

  • "We had an excellent "Dine Out" dinner at the Boat House. The service was excellent and the food was very good. I think they should offer a menu option without dessert but other than that everything was great."

  • "We went on Friday night for Lobsterfest. We have been to this restaurant many times and had great food and excellent service. This time, unfortunately, while the lobster absolutely melted in your mouth, the rest of the food was just "okay" and the service not up to par. I had the halibut and lobster tail risotto. The halibut was good, but the lobster tail was served on the same plate, bottom of the tail in the risotto, which left the risotto salty and fishy tasting. Our server was friendly enough and "peppy", energetic. However, we never got a refill of our water glasses, our son was never offered another pop and twice we had to pour our own wine, with the server apologetic catching us doing it the first time. That shouldn't happen."

  • "Horseshoe Bay is a drive at best but for those that enjoy the water and the solitude of this small community; it’s a worthwhile venture, particularly to the Boat House Restaurant. The Boathouse Restaurant is one of my favorite spots because of the staff, ambiance and the food has always been great. Our waitress was exceptional and made our evening very enjoyable. When we thanked her for her great service she said, “I really enjoy my job”, which showed and exemplified her great service. Despite this being a chain restaurant the manager and staff have worked very hard to make this a unique dinning experience. I would strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone that wants to have a great dinning experience."

  • "Might recommend a change of music choice for evening dining. Same music as heard on FM radio - contemporary pop - not great for dinner. Shouldn't be chosen because the staff like it."

  • "As always the friendly staff & the lovely open, bright atmosphere & good food makes me always think of the Boat House when ever we are meeting with friends in West Vancouver. Although it is a ferry ride for us it is some place that I look forward to returning to where we are made to feel special with a warm welcome. This last visit we stayed after our meal was complete & sipped on wine & visited with our guests. The staff were most kind & told us to ... sit .. enjoy .. & not worry about leaving. Much appreciated!!"

  • "We enjoyed the scenery , the food and most particularly our waiter, Craig. He was attentive, warm, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. Even though the day was rainy, the warm fire and cheerful atmosphere added a sense of comfort and coziness. We would definitely come back again."

  • "This restaurant has a privileged location in horseshoe bay (west Vancouver) with an amazing view which makes it special, the food is very good when compared with other local restaurans and the servers as it is common practice in Vancouver are friendly and courteous. I am originally from Mexico city, restaurants back home are way more competitive since there are many more options for costumers, so I am used to restaurants with many more options on the menus, older male and female servers that are more experienced and professional and more reasonable prices so even though this restaurant is one of my favourites in Vancouver and is very good it is not as impressive and competitive as what I am used to."
