  • "Boat House on Denman has always been my favorite place. Great location, great service, great view and excellent seafood."

  • "Our server was outstanding, there were some distractions around the restaurant. The food was amazing."

  • "Location and views are great. Food not so much. We have been to this location many times before (as well as other locations) and this was the first time we were disappointed. I ordered the New York strip steak because I have had it before at another location and it was outstanding. Not this time however. First off, it came to me cold, not even warm...it also seemed to be fried, not grilled. Yuck!. Don't get the crab cakes appetizer. We ordered it and were alarmed about the amount of filler and lack of crab, not worth it. There were only three or four tables in use in the dining room and they put us all together. Service was proportionally slow. Note that there is no elevator or lift and a lot of stairs. I was on crutches."

  • "We had a great dinner at the Boathouse. We both ordered one Caesar Salad, and split it. One is more than enough for 2 people. The Fish was Halibut with lots of beer batter around the white fish filets. Not too much just enough batter to make it crunchy. If you re looking for tarter sauce, you get a basil tarter. It was bitter and sharp tasting. Then we asked for cocktail sauce and it was hot, but not horseradish hot, tabasco hot. So we just ended up just using the ketchup. The fries were good, fresh potato cut and fried skin on. The waiter was asked to bring malt vinegar, but did not bring any. We did not see him again until it was time to pay the bill. The Boathouse is now owned by an American chain Landreys' disappointing."

  • "This was our first time at The Boathouse. On arrival, there was no one to greet us. We waited over 5 mins. for someone to show up and take us to our table. We then waited 25 mins. before a server came to our table (and only because we had to ask if anyone was serving this table). The server was very apologetic and explained that there were issues in the kitchen that evening (not our problem). From then on, our server did his best to make up for the poor service. The bottle of wine that we ordered was wonderful, the mussels were excellent, however, the fish & chips were just okay and the salmon was very dry. Overall, not a good dining experience. Would not recommend it nor would we return. In all fairness, the view is fantastic."

  • "Definite west-end vibe. Only downside was it took FOREVER for our appies, then the meal showed up just as we put our forks down! Timing could be better"

  • "Reservations for 10am Saturday Brunch, doors still locked until 10 mins past 10am. Our waitress didn't show up to our table until 10:30am. Specific requests, such as hollandaise sauce on the side were noted, but ignored. When the kids "bacon & eggs" (for $9.99) showed up without bacon, the server ARGUED with me, saying that the kitchen told her it didn't come with bacon. I told her to review the menu, and 'bring out the bacon'. Nice view, tasty food, but definitely NOT worth the price, especially considering the service was less then acceptable. We promised our two Ontario guests a beautiful brunch, and were embarrassed to have such an unwelcoming & argumentative experience. Not the West Coast way, I assured them."

  • "We were in Vancouver for a Convention and had a night to ourselves so I used Open Table to book a restaurant for dinner on Thursday night at the Boat House on English Bay in Vancouver. We had a table at the windows facing English Bay and had an exceptional view. The service was excellent and meal fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend both Open Table for the ease with which we were able to make our reservation, and the Boat House at English Bay for a sensational dining experience."

  • "Food was good but the waiters explanation and recommendation didn't help - regarding the cut of the meat it was wrong even. Service was just minimum friendly (not warm and motivated) and not very attentive: no water refill during the whole time. Nice place at the window during sunset, but that's all the visit was good for. We've tried several restaurants during our two-week-visit in Canada, but this one doesn't make it into our Top-Ten."

  • "The quality of my eggs benedict was fine, but the serving including the potatoes and fruit was limited. Honestly, the White Spot plate which I had eaten not long before contained about twice as much food. What will Americans, who are proverbially used to large portions, think ? I guess you will get their feedback from them. It's not really my business."

  • "Great location near the beach and easy to get to. Valet parking was available and at a reasonable rate. Service was good and the server had a great attitude and checked on us as often. Food quality was fair. I had crab and lobster pasta. The lobster was on special so I expected to taste a bit more of it, but really only tasted the crab. My SO had Risotto which was lukewarm so OK but not great."

  • "The service provided by the server was worse than expected, and even though she repeated our order to us when taking our order, there was a mistake when the food came out. Since we didn't want further delay to our food, we were going to accept the 'wrong' entree. Manager Derek made things right by giving us the wrong entree for free so that we could eat and bringing out the 'right' entree when it was ready, and if we were too full, could pack it to go."

  • "We were very impressed with the wait staff. Our servers were professional, friendly, and more than helpful with the wine selection. Their knowledge of the menu was helpful when we needed some help making a selection. It is Lobster Fest and there are so many selections. Something for everyone. This is not our first time at this spot and it won't be our last. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. Casual is the name of the game."

  • "A beautiful seaside experience for our "fancy night out" in Vancouver. Stunning views of English Bay from our window-side table. Superb service and excellent, creative seafood dishes. A perfect spot for a romantic, quiet dinner for two and if the weather is nice, a great neighbourhood for a before or after-dinner stroll by the beach. Thank you for a lovely evening!"

  • "My partner and I went out for lobster fest on Saturday. The food was excellent but unfortunately the heat went out after we had ordered. The restaurant got colder and colder as the evening went on. The staff were apologetic and gave us a free appetizer for our trouble. Although it turned out to be an expensive, cold night out, I would recommend the restaurant."

  • "We visited the Boathouse Restaurant and really enjoyed our evening. My daughter had the tuna tacos and the crab dip and was not disappointed. I tried the miso coated halibut which was listed as one of the Boathouse's favourites. The fish was very flavourful and my only criticism would be that they could have provided a little more sauce on the halibut. Our waiter was very attentive and the food arrived in a timely manner. An overall enjoyable dinner."

  • "Beautiful sunset over English Bay. The service was spot on; we asked to have the courses spread out so we could just kick back and enjoy the ambiance and view and our server timed the drinks, appetizers, main and desserts perfectly. We started with Lobster Bisque which was creamy, rich and delicious! For the main we had stuffed lobster, cooked to perfection. I ordered extra veggies instead of a starch and got a good variety which also were delicious. The creme brûlée that I had for dessert was very tasty and done beautifully. We ordered Blueberry Tea for an after dinner drink and it was served just how I like it with the tea on the side. The evening exceeded our expectations; I recommend the Boathouse for a romantic dinner."

  • "Came here for birthday dinner for 2, mentioned it at time of reservation. Upon arrival, the greeter wished us a happy birthday and so did our waiter when he came to our table. Ordered drinks, asked for my Caesar to be very light on the spice. It was perfect, and the waiter checked on us all throughout the meal. When he saw me trying to take a photo of the waterfront at sunset, he immediately came over and offered to take a photo of us together while the light was good. The lobster risotto wasn't that great - the vegetables were cut all different sizes and very chunky, plus the risotto was still slightly crunchy...but we got mud pie with a sparkler in it!"

  • "The food and view of the beach. Only negative was we were seated at our table for over 10 mins before the waiter showed up."

  • "Went for a late dinner; ambiance quite nice; dim and noise level very low. Electric candles. Was seated in a small corner on the 2nd floor, right next to the exit. Very cramped. Hard to wave down our waitress. App: tuna tacos, the shell was crispy and crunchy, sauce nice and sweet, but the tuna tasted refrigerated. Rice was cold and ROCK HARD. Tasted like day-old rice that's been sitting in the fridge all day. Lobster mac n cheese was creamy/cheesy; generous lobster portions in the macaroni itself but the tail was tiny. Lobster risotto. Rice hard and undercooked. The dish very bland, even when I loaded it with seafood seasoning. Arugula didn't match with the risotto, bitter taste was distracting &took away fr/the creaminess."

  • "Well....as my husband said "it would be better if it didn't feel uncomfortable being there". It was his 50th birthday and it was near-well ruined by an over-talkative and pushy waiter who would have rather talked about his acting career and pushed food we didn't want. Our table of 7 was gob-smacked at his frequent interruptions and monologues about his 'work'. I even saw him giving the same spiel to two other tables - at the same time!! The food was mediocre and, on a friday night, the place was near empty - that should have told me something. Not going back anytime soon. Sorry."

  • "This was our 3rd time doing the Dine out Vancouver. The service and food was great. We found the value was fantastic. We look forward to next years Dine out Vacouver. We would say if you want to go for a nice dinner and a great view to go to The Boathouse. The only down point is that when busy, it is very noisy."

  • "I went to the boathouse last week and had dinner. The food was good but when a server came to me and my friend and started to take orders, we smelled cigarette from him. We were pretty sure he just finished smoking and came to us to take an order. We felt so bad.."

  • "I have been going to this upstairs restaurant for 25-30 years under the name ENGLISH BAY CAFE & THE BOATHOUSE (note the pnt. below *) There was a "Dine Out Vancouver" Promo & I took the Package. My meal was flavourable & enjoyable, however it was a little heavy on the sodium. Unlike many other Vancouver restaurants it was quiet enough to easily converse. Our waiter was professional & friendly but should have been faster on the uptake to take the Credit Card payment. *Approx. 25 years ago when it was the E.B.C., on the main, steep stairway my feet came out from under me & I bounced down to the bottom ON MY BACK with fortunately, no injury. Today THERE ARE STILL NO anti-slip guards on these steps, so be carefull. The back stairs DO have them."

  • "Our appy Mac & Cheese with crab and lobster was out of the world. My husband's crab and lobster meal was perfect, but my salmon was over cooked and dry. We had a beautiful view of the ocean and our waitress was wonderful."

  • "We did the Dine Out Vancouver on Friday evening. The meal was so so. Steaks arrived undercooked and were returned. Staff apologetic. Steaks arrived back a bit better but definately not top quality meat. Tough and chewy and watery. The view and the sunset were what saved the evening."

  • "We loved all of the choices on the menu, it was tough to decide. Excellent menu of traditional and unique items. Happy to see all of the lobster dishes. Beautiful view and ambiance. Our only complaints: the service from the front door staff was uninviting and unprofessional, our server was lovely but the slow service was ridiculous, as it wasn't even busy. We got our appies before our friend got a glass of wine. It took the server 5 minutes before she checked on our main courses. Then it took forever to get our desserts and our bill. We wanted to leave a better tip, but because of the very slow service, we didn't. We see a lot of potential in this restaurant, but the service needs to improve."

  • "We got seated relatively quickly. Service from the start was very good but it took a considerable amount of time for our waiter to take our orders. Once the orders were in, the bread continued to flow to the table and the water was topped up on a regular basis. Before our orders came out we were told that they had run out of mashed potatoes. How does a restaurant run out of mashed potatoes? The food was good to very good. The view was decent even though we weren't seated by the window. Overall the restaurant is a good pick for a nice meal with a view, or to bring a date. We arrived around 8:15 but didn't end up leaving till 11:40pm. We didn't feel rushed by the staff and they continued to top up drinks during the entire time."

  • "We always enjoy dining at The Boathouse English Bay and have never been disappointed with the service or food. We like to come for special occasions and for the "fests." Our recent visit was for our anniversary. The server, a trainee, asked if we were there for a special occasion. She and her trainer were friendly and spent a bit of time chatting with us about that and whether we'd been there before. We were still given a lot of privacy, as befitting the occasion."

  • "Decided to try out their dine out menu. Appetizer: the clam chowder was hearty but bland. Could do with a bit more flavor. Main #1: the Blackened Steelhead is excellent in flavoring and cooked perfectly (but slightly underportioned) Main #2: the Grilled Chicken Penne is a tomato creamed base. The flavor was good but the penne wasnt drained properly so the sauce was runny and watery. Desert: the Creme Brulee (was gingerbread flavor)- had very good and well put together flavors. Note: Had asked for NO CAPERS on the Grilled Chicken Penne- however, it was served WITH and the restaurant had to remake the order."

  • "Had dinner at the West End Boathouse for Dine Out Vancouver after enjoying last year's in the Kits location. It was just OK, the service was good, and the food was good, but nothing overly remarkable. The decor is a bit dated, and in the evening you can't really see the wonderful view from the dining room. Given the price point, you'd expect a bit more. With the choice of restaurants in that area, I'd probably try somewhere else where you'll get better value for your money."
