An extremely pleasant dining experience. The service was of top quality and it felt like we were the only people being served by our waitress. Staff were very inviting and friendly and their knowledge about the menu was also immense. Our meals were on time, delicious and presented beautifully and all was enjoyed over a beautiful sunset right outside the windows.

Server messed up two entree orders in our 4-person group, and hostess was snarky about allowing us to dine off the upstairs menu (we were sitting downstairs due to the wheelchair in our party). This is my second time eating at this particular location, and both times I have been pretty unimpressed for various reasons.

Had a mishap with a water glass breaking at the weak point and smashing on the table. While the server had the mess cleaned up, the table re-set and the manager came to ask if we were ok, there was no offer of a dessert or discount to make up for the incident which was disappointing. I am use to other restaurants in this price range (and often times less pricy) offering something to make up for the incident.

Our server, Richard, was absolutely amazing. I've NEVER had an experience like that before. Unlike most servers who just bring the food and go over daily specials, Richard created the dining experience. He was far above and beyond normal expectations. He was energetic, very friendly and quick witted, and he sang very well as well! Great experience.

The wait staff was very attentive, knowledgable, and friendly. The food was 4 out of 5 stars and the views were beautiful. The smoked sable fish was overwhelming and I did not realize it was smoked when it was a recommended special. We did have to wait 30 minutes after our reservations time for a window seat and the tables were a little close for private conversations but the dinner was overall very enjoyable and we will visit again.

It was noisy due to the various (adult) birthday celebrations happening on the Friday we went. I had steak and lobster which was good but not the best I'd ever had, but a good deal at $39.99. My husband wanted both steak and black cod, which are not on the menu as a combined dish, but they said they would do it for us. Unfortunately the cod was really salty - very disappointing considering this is a seafood place. And for the price paid - we got charged more than $39.99 for this - my husband said he should have just had the steak and lobster like I did. Service was good but not outstanding (but they were very busy), and they did comp us a birthday dessert and an Italian opera birthday ballad too, so overall it was enjoyable.

We took my mother for Mother's Day Brunch (6 of us in total). They had available seating for 3:00 p.m. By the time the waitress took our drinks order, the roast beef had been taken away. By 3:30 p.m., the waitress informed us that they were going to start clearing away the buffet table, except the dessert table. What food that was left on the buffet table was mediocre at best but I would put it at the poor end. The only item they replenished while we were there was the shrimp. If they plan to close the buffet table at 3:30 pm, I would suggest that they do not take reservations for 3:00 pm. And, considering the buffet table did not have everything they advertised, they still charged us full price for the buffet.

I anticipated a busy restaurant for Mother's Day, and that's what we got! The majority of the food at the buffet was nothing to write home about, but the crab & shrimp were very good - nice & fresh. The clams & mussels were somewhat disappointing with a mustard-seed sauce that was too overpowering - couldn't taste the clams at all. Our waiter was friendly, but was rarely around when we needed him. Towards the end of our meal, we waited at least 15 minutes before getting our bill, then another 20 minutes before he came back to take my credit card, which was poking out of the billfold at an attempt to get his attention. I've been to the Boathouse before and enjoyed everything immensely, so I know this visit was not the norm for them.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 5/9/2008
I asked for a patio table when I made the online reservation three days before the date. I was never told by anyone that reservations cannot be made for patio tables. The hostess at the front door failed to tell me that, but told me I can go upstairs to the patio when I told her I had reservations. Still, when I got up to the patio, I was not aware my reservation would not be taken for a patio table. The hostess told me the wait for a table on the patio could be anywhere between 5 minutes to over half an hour. I recieved a table in less that 5 minutes, and as I was brought to our table, I had a choice between two tables for two. That made me quite confused as to why she told us it could take over 30mins.

Wild green salad nice; lobster ravioli ok, sauce not flavourful;delicious steak;west coast seafood chowder good. Service made us feel that we were being pushed thru an assembly line.Waitress constantly interrupted our dinner conversation, or stood in front of us while we were talking, looking annoyed. Also appeared annoyed when we all ordered wine flights, and had to take one back as she had forgotten which wine was which. She couldn't reach me, so I had to pass her my dirty plate, or take the food from her.Table next to us was loud, singing happy birthday with a piece of cake with a sparkler, very tacky.I would classify this as a young party place, or maybe a tourist place given the beautiful view, but wouldnt give a great impression of Vanc

Almost everything was perfect. The only change I would make is the music genre ... techno/rave music is not appropriate for the mood of this restaraunt. No one at our table wanted to hear bass pounding electronic. Soft jazz or blues, even chill or mellow worldbeat would have been better.

The service and the food are not constant in this restaurant. On a previous visit, my food (steak) was undercooked to the point I could not eat it and the waitress argued with me about what "medium" meant. On that visit also, the waitress forgot to bring an appetizer and then argued about that. I was not going to return, but had a friend from out of town. On this occasion both the service and the food were fine. This is not a restaurant for serious foodies. The wine list is overpriced and frequently, the restaurant is understocked.

I had just worked an 11 hour day and wanted to treat myself to a great dinner. My server, Carolyn, was excellent. She took great care of me and made wonderful recommendations. I chose the steak and crab stuffed jumbo prawns. The prawns were delicious and the steak was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, the spice rub on the steak was way too salty so I couldn't enjoy it. Normally I would have sent it back for a new one, but due to the late hour and the fact that I was very hungry, I just scraped off as much of the spice as I could. The salt had completely permeated the steak so that was all I could taste. I did eat most of it but would definitely think twice before ordering a steak again - it almost ruined the entire meal.

The setting was lovely and the staff attentive and well informed about the food and wine. The food was, sadly, very ordinary. The Seafood Pot Pie was too creamy with not enough fish - in short, boring. The Seafood Grill comprised of salmon, shrimp & scallop kabob was overcooked, but the roasted veg were well chosen and tasty. The Miso Halibut was good but served with rice - it didn't have any visual WOW when it was presented. The chance to have 3 x 2 oz of BC wines was a nice touch for those being introduced to the wines of the province. The Sourdough Bread Pudding was hearty and filing. The texture of the key Lime Pie felt off.

The Boathouse English Bay has always been a favourite of mine. Every time the service is exceptional, attentive without being intrusive. Small details, like watching when your wine glass is close to empty and asking if you would like another (ordering by glass). The quality of food is always excellent, and the portions for all items, including starters and salads, very generous. The desserts are also excellent. I find the prices for this type of dining very reasonable. The whole experience there is very consistent. Have been there many times over the years, and was never disappointed. They really know how to pick their staff, very genuine and sincerely gracious people.

Price is reasonable. I have ordered a steak and some seafood. My girlfriend loved the atmosphere. Overall, everything was good, but i had a bad server. She did not care about my table too much. Other than taking order, i did not know what she did for me. After finishing my main course more than 15 to 20 minutes, she did not come to pick up my dishes. why? she was talking with other customers. I have previously been to the boathouse in english bay and enjoyed my time. I was disappointed in my most recent experience. Unfortunately our server was not very attentive and the service was slow as was the food (1.5 hours to get food and we had a child at our table). The server seemed unsure of herself and made mistakes processing the bill... perhaps she was new? One person at our table had a rotten potato on their plate (we were discounted and the Manager did attend to us which was good). Another person was sick with diahrea and stomach pains from the meal which lasted for a day. As always the view and the setting were fabulous... unfortunately I will reconsider going to the Boathouse any time soon. :(
