A word from Boathouse at Breach Inlet
This waterfront locale is historically known as the launching site of our country's first submarine, the H.L. Hunley. Poised at the breach between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic, you can enjoy a meal amongst the spectacular sunset views and balmy ocean breezes of the Isle of Palms. Come early and have a cocktail at the Rooftop Bar while enjoying amazing views before dining.Continued

  • "$$$$ but worth it. We had wahoo, flounder, salmon, and chicken. Dessert was fantastic."

  • "We had a great server but a bad overall experience due to the kitchen's mishandling of food allergy requests. My daughter, who I'm breastfeeding, is severely allergic to dairy, soy, and gluten. We made the server aware of all the allergies & she talked to the kitchen to help us get something safe. My steak came on buttermilk potatoes from another server. I said it had to go back bc it was covered in dairy & that I would need a new steak. Two minutes later they brought it back claiming it was a new steak. The side that was in the potatoes had been cut off and the steak had been wiped except for a glob of potatoes. Finally got a new one. They have a gluten free menu & discuss allergies on their menu but clearly don't them seriously."

  • "We visited as part of our vacation, having been there 10 years ago! It was as good as we remembered! It's really worth arriving early to sit up top on the deck and have a pre dinner drink, great view."

  • "An outstanding view is the prime recommendation I'd give this restaurant. The food was fine, but not special in the competitive Charleston food scene."

  • "Another great meal at the boathouse! We had out-of-town friends, and they had never been there. The blue cheese cole slaw is always a hit. My sashimi tuna was perfect!!"

  • "We ate here last year while on IOP for vacation and we were pleased to come back again this year to see the nice renovations and experience again a great meal with very attentive service"
    Dined on 6/30/2014
  • "The food was decent but overpriced for what it is. From what I understand the bar at the top and the view is the primary reason folks come here. Stick with that."

  • "Great views! Great food! Very casual. Good service and all around very good restaurant!"

  • "Our family group (8) celebrated our last vacation day with dinner at the Boat House. Everyone from age 9 to 73 thoroughly enjoyed the evening in spite of a slightly late reservation (8:30) and a humongous thunderstorm while we dined in their porch area. All the entrees were wonderful (personally, the best grilled swordfish I ever enjoyed) and the service was superb in spite of a very full house. Our server, Beth, is a real gem!!!"

  • "As a local, it's nice to dine at a restaurant that values having the locals as well as the tourists. Our waiter, David, was a jewel; very knowledgable, and accommodating. The food was very good, comparable to many of the downtown restaurants. Hope to come back soon. Thanks, David for an awesome experience!"

  • "I take my daughter to the beach and to the Boathouse every year for her birthday dinner! We sit on the porch overlooking the water and enjoy lobster tails...they bring her a piece of choc cake as a surprise (and comp'ed it this time!)....perfect service, lovely breezy covered porch...fresh food and great atmosphere!"

  • "I have been going to this restaurant since around the time they opened. I made reservations in advance and was disappointed to be seated on the side room when the back porch with the scenic view had many tables available. Our waiter was very quirky, but made the experience quite interesting. I ordered the fried shrimp and scallops, served with hushpuppies. The scallops were just big dough balls, one couldn't taste or even detect a scallop present. Same for the hushpuppies. I don't plan on going back and spending my money there. I don't know if its due to a change in management or what, but I will not continue to dine at this restaurant in the future."

  • "Dinner at sunset was wonderful! It was my brother in laws 50th birthday and he wanted to go to The Boathouse. He and my sister live up hear Charlotte and came down to visit for his bday. This was a very significant bday and trip bcause he had a heart transplant in May and this was his first trip since spending 5 months in the hospital! We all were very pleased with everything: our server was great and food incredible! Thank you"

  • "Had a drink prior to dinner on the roof top bar and enjoyed the breeze and view. Dinner outside overlooking the water was very nice. Will go back when visiting again."

  • "The great sunset view we had hoped for was limited to a few tables outside. Most tables, including ours, had no view. The food we got was good, but the quantity was not commensurate with the price. I ordered a fried shrimp/scallop combo which came with cole slaw. (6 shrimp & 5 scallops for $23). No french fries were available. Really? Some in our party enjoyed the jalepeno hush puppies. Our server tried his best, but was over extended and unable to give us much attention. On a busy night, expect to coverse with a shout. The noise level was great. It was a Friday night. I would suggest trying this place early in the week, ask for a view when you make reservations, and bring your own french fries if you want them."

  • "Everything was wonderful. The building was beautiful, a great atmosphere, and outstanding food. The service was great. Everybody who worked there treated you as family member they haven't seen in awhile. Great views. I recommend going while in town."

  • "Boathouse continues to be a must stop - casual, but fantastic food - and a view that begs you to enjoy a 3 hour visit. A must stop when you are in the area."

  • "This was a mothers day brunch visit and probably our last visit on a Sunday. We have dined at the Boathouse a lot and enjoy the location and atmosphere. The food is always above average for the Isle of Palms, and the views are great. It is a wonderful place to have a drink and check out Breech Inlet on the upper deck. This meal just took forever. Service was probably the worst I have had in Charleston in years. Luckily, we were able to walk our kids around and look at the beach, water, and dolphins, while we waited for our food. Again, the food was pretty good, but not worth the wait for our food, drink refills, menus, etc. Waiter was either in the weeds or in the wrong profession."

  • "Boathouse is in the top 5 favorite restaurants on our list for the Charleston, SC area. We love this place for dining and drinks!!!!! The sunsets are incredible from the rooftop bar. We always bring friends and family here when they visit the area. The staff and management is friendly, knowledgable & very accommodating. The food is very delicious, especially the fresh seafood."

  • "Every year we visit Isle of Palms, and can't leave without a visit to the Boathouse. My Daughter requested that we celebrate her 11th Birthday here. My Husband and I ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir, and upon delivery to the table, the wine was HOT, to the point of our server "spinning it" in ice. Later we were told it had "just been delivered and unloaded". Then, my salad literally consisted of approximately 6 pieces of lettuce. Then, when my salmon came out, it looked as though it was just caught and placed on my plate!! Keep in mind, I am not a picky person! The absolute worst part was when management came out, he said "we can't be perfect 100% of the time"! When I CHOOSE to eat at a nice restaurant, I EXPECT them to strive to be 100%!"

  • "We are frequent visitors to Isle of Palms and enjoy the many dining options in the Charleston area. The Boat House is a scenic restaurant on the marsh between Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms. The view, especially at sunset, is striking. However, when we dined there a few years ago, the menu was expensive, the food was bland, and the cooking was low-quality so we had avoided it since. This time we needed a local option for 10 people so I decided to give it another try. I am pleased to say that the food and service have improved dramatically and the view is, well, always great. I highly recommend the improved Boat House."

  • "Good food, great service, easy parking--couldn't ask for a better experience at the beach."

  • "The best thing I can say about this place is the view. The outdoor area is very nice. Service was medium to good, but not exceptionally great. Also the lobster was very disappointing. The steak & lobster had multiple teeny tiny lobsters. The steak part of it was the better of the two of the dinner entree items which was quite overpriced for what you received. My husband did like the pork chop quite a bit though. In comparison to other Charleston area restaurants with water view this is so overpriced!"

  • "Haven't been to BH for a couple of years...daughters graduation dinner, small group...reservations, seated immediately. Waiter was funny, prompt and very knowledgeable about menu and had good recommendations. All had seafood, swordfish and flounder/crab cakes, excellent all around. Key lime and Crème brule deserts were very good.....great experience. "

  • "Not only was this the little Island gem I had read about, the atmosphere, attentativeness of Randy, our waiter, was only overshadowed by the excellent food he suggested! It was the best my husband & I have had! We really enjoyed our sunset evening! Did I say they also have the cutest boys parking your car!! A real Gem!!"

  • "At the Boathouse I had a sauteed pink snapper - it was the Special Entree. Undoubledly, it was one of the tastiest pieces of fish I've ever eaten and I've been to some great restaurants. The fish was served over grits which were made with herbs and goat cheese - it was delicious. As an appetizer, we had the Gazpacho, loved that too. My companion's entree was Swordfish. It was thick and cooked to perfection. For dessert, we were tempted by both the creme brulee and the key lime pie but landed up splitting the creme brûlée. Once again, we were delighted. The Boathouse is a beachy type restaurant with choices from fried food combinations to exquisite Specials. Couldn't have been happier."

  • "If you are looking for on the water dining with not many bells and whistles and warm salad and small portions and good wait staff then this is the place for you. "

  • "I had not been to the Boathouse in a long time and decided to return for brunch. I am very glad I went back. The food, service and ambience were all excellent! I had an omelet special that had crab and goat cheese which was delicious. It was a slower, quiet day for them so we were able to linger on the porch and enjoy the view for a couple of hours. Great experience overall. "

  • "I have to say I was disappointed in my most recent experience at the Boathouse at Breach Inlet. My wife and I started with and enjoyed the Sweet Jalapeño Hushpuppies - very well prepared and the remoulade sauce had just the right tang. However, my monk fish, while cooked and seasoned properly, was a very small portion and if my wife had not shared her entree with me, I would have left the restaurant quite hungry. This was surprising to me as prior experiences at this restaurant had been quite pleasant. The smoked gouda mac and cheese as well as the Boathouse blue cheese coleslaw were also well done. However, due to the shrinking portion size I suspect I will not visit the Boathouse on my next trip to the area."
