A word from Boathouse at Breach Inlet
This waterfront locale is historically known as the launching site of our country's first submarine, the H.L. Hunley. Poised at the breach between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic, you can enjoy a meal amongst the spectacular sunset views and balmy ocean breezes of the Isle of Palms. Come early and have a cocktail at the Rooftop Bar while enjoying amazing views before dining.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Nothing new here...the good is amazing, and the service is awful. Same as it's been for years."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed our last dinner before leaving town the next morning to head home. It was so nice to get dressed up for the evening after spending the whole week being beach bums and being greeted by friendly valet and wonderful waitress staff. Definitely order something seafood oriented from the menu!"

  • "Always enjoy the Boathouse but this time was the best. Blackened grouper was excellent & gouda mac 'n cheese is a must. Staff was personable, attentive & helpful w/o smothering. Looking forward to return trip."

  • "Good quality food. Waiter was terrific. Great waterway setting. Enjoyable night"

  • "We went there based on a friends recommendation and really liked it. We were 2 adults and 2 kids. Started with a roof top drink while the kids watched the dolphins and then ate on the porch below. The welcome was great as our table was on time and the service was excellent. Food awesome. The Shrimp n Grits were amazing. My wife had the special, son lobster (off kids menu) and daughter pasta. Most likely going back before we head home Saturday."

  • "This was our second visit to the Boathouse for brunch. The menu offers an array of options including beverages, breads, and an amazing shrimp and grits. We've had several shrimp and grits around town and the Boathouse is definitely the best. The view overlooks the inter coastal waterways and inlet between Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island. This is a very common area to spot dolphins. While it appears exclusive on the outside, it is a very welcoming environment with attentive servers and excellent food at a reasonable price considering the portions, location and quality."

  • "I do believe that was the best meal I've ever had. Great atmosphere! Great food! LOVE The Boathouse!"

  • "We are new to the area and are excited about the new places we get to go. The Boathouse served great food and the service we had was outstanding (Billy took very good care of us!). Fresh grouper (blackened) and wahoo (grilled) plus the blue cheese coleslaw and gouda mac & cheese were amazing. I would recommend this to everyone. We will be back."

  • "We stayed on IOP and had two dinners in Charleston before dining here. We voted this dinner no. 1. It is more rustic, but more like the beach than going into town. Recommend without reservation."

  • "Very disappointed in the food. Seemed like a tourist place. We will not be back."
    Dined on 7/15/2014
  • "When we arrived we were provided complimentary valet service which always sets a positive tone. We were seated on the screen enclosed porch with wonderful views of the intercostal waterway. Our food was excellent and appropriately portioned. I would highly recommend."

  • "Chose this restaurant for our last night on vacation. Food was terrific and servers were very nice. Hostess was a little off putting but I chalk that up to young age and generational differences."
    Dined on 7/10/2014
  • "When we arrived we were escorted to a dark corner, even though we had a reservation and there were better tables, including on the outside porch available. We asked to be outside and were put in a cramped area without a view. We were disappointed, but moved on and ordered. The drinks were short on alcohol. However, the food was excellent."

  • "Service was poor. Having to ask for a refill on water and tea 4 times before receiving it is unexceptable. The food is to die for tho. There is no ramp for a handicap person to get in, which is actually against the law. My daughter is in a wheelchair and the did take us through an outside bar and gave us a table outside. but, some people may not be ok with dining outside. This should be corrected ASAP"

  • "Fish was great, veggies and sides over cooked and tasteless"

  • "Enjoyed a nice summer wine, the wedge salad and the sea scallops. Very tasty and just the right portion size. Once the sun started to set, a nice breeze came in and the outdoor seating was perfect!"

  • "We had a great server but a bad overall experience due to the kitchen's mishandling of food allergy requests. My daughter, who I'm breastfeeding, is severely allergic to dairy, soy, and gluten. We made the server aware of all the allergies & she talked to the kitchen to help us get something safe. My steak came on buttermilk potatoes from another server. I said it had to go back bc it was covered in dairy & that I would need a new steak. Two minutes later they brought it back claiming it was a new steak. The side that was in the potatoes had been cut off and the steak had been wiped except for a glob of potatoes. Finally got a new one. They have a gluten free menu & discuss allergies on their menu but clearly don't them seriously."

  • "$$$$ but worth it. We had wahoo, flounder, salmon, and chicken. Dessert was fantastic."

  • "We visited as part of our vacation, having been there 10 years ago! It was as good as we remembered! It's really worth arriving early to sit up top on the deck and have a pre dinner drink, great view."

  • "An outstanding view is the prime recommendation I'd give this restaurant. The food was fine, but not special in the competitive Charleston food scene."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "Another great meal at the boathouse! We had out-of-town friends, and they had never been there. The blue cheese cole slaw is always a hit. My sashimi tuna was perfect!!"
    Dined on 6/30/2014
  • "The food was decent but overpriced for what it is. From what I understand the bar at the top and the view is the primary reason folks come here. Stick with that."

  • "We ate here last year while on IOP for vacation and we were pleased to come back again this year to see the nice renovations and experience again a great meal with very attentive service"

  • "Our family group (8) celebrated our last vacation day with dinner at the Boat House. Everyone from age 9 to 73 thoroughly enjoyed the evening in spite of a slightly late reservation (8:30) and a humongous thunderstorm while we dined in their porch area. All the entrees were wonderful (personally, the best grilled swordfish I ever enjoyed) and the service was superb in spite of a very full house. Our server, Beth, is a real gem!!!"

  • "As a local, it's nice to dine at a restaurant that values having the locals as well as the tourists. Our waiter, David, was a jewel; very knowledgable, and accommodating. The food was very good, comparable to many of the downtown restaurants. Hope to come back soon. Thanks, David for an awesome experience!"

  • "I have been going to this restaurant since around the time they opened. I made reservations in advance and was disappointed to be seated on the side room when the back porch with the scenic view had many tables available. Our waiter was very quirky, but made the experience quite interesting. I ordered the fried shrimp and scallops, served with hushpuppies. The scallops were just big dough balls, one couldn't taste or even detect a scallop present. Same for the hushpuppies. I don't plan on going back and spending my money there. I don't know if its due to a change in management or what, but I will not continue to dine at this restaurant in the future."

  • "I take my daughter to the beach and to the Boathouse every year for her birthday dinner! We sit on the porch overlooking the water and enjoy lobster tails...they bring her a piece of choc cake as a surprise (and comp'ed it this time!)....perfect service, lovely breezy covered porch...fresh food and great atmosphere!"

  • "overall good. wait for food was way to long. Food was fair to good."

  • "The great sunset view we had hoped for was limited to a few tables outside. Most tables, including ours, had no view. The food we got was good, but the quantity was not commensurate with the price. I ordered a fried shrimp/scallop combo which came with cole slaw. (6 shrimp & 5 scallops for $23). No french fries were available. Really? Some in our party enjoyed the jalepeno hush puppies. Our server tried his best, but was over extended and unable to give us much attention. On a busy night, expect to coverse with a shout. The noise level was great. It was a Friday night. I would suggest trying this place early in the week, ask for a view when you make reservations, and bring your own french fries if you want them."

  • "Dinner at sunset was wonderful! It was my brother in laws 50th birthday and he wanted to go to The Boathouse. He and my sister live up hear Charlotte and came down to visit for his bday. This was a very significant bday and trip bcause he had a heart transplant in May and this was his first trip since spending 5 months in the hospital! We all were very pleased with everything: our server was great and food incredible! Thank you"

  • "We have been visiting the Boathouse on and off for the past 15 years! We road trip from MN and spend a week in a rented house on Isle of Palms. The Boathouse is our dinner choice at least 3 nights during our stay. Fantastic drinks, fabulous steaks, fresh seafood, great service, love sitting on the porch and watching the dolphins."
