Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed a really nice dinner and a wonderful view. We have eaten here before and while we enjoyed the view, the food was not exceptional. This time, the food was really, really good. We started with the cheese tray. It was exceptional. For dinner we had swordfish and salmon. Both were cooked perfectly. I would love to see some new additions to the menu. There are limited choices for the meat lovers of the world! Overall, I look forward to returning and watching a great sunset."

  • "We met friends for lunch and had a wonderful time and never felt rushed in any way. Our server was fabulous and the food outstanding."

  • "This is a regular stop for us, partly because it's walking distance for us, but mostly because the food is excellent and both the wait staff and the location make it a home run. They have an updated menu, the most ambitious and varied since it opened, and they're doing a great job on execution from beginning to end. Place gets full quickly, can't beat the ambiance and the food is well worth it. Because it gets so full, and the bar is so lively, it can be a noisy place. Also, depending on the time of year and where you're seated, it can be a little warm (walls of windows facing west can do that). Still, such a small price to pay for what might be the best waterfront restaurant in the state. Definitely give it a try!"

  • "We went for lunch during restaurant week. Making reservations was a good idea, for it was busy. We were seated by the window which seemed to be the best view in the house. Service was very good, the wine list was extensive and the pre fix for restaurant week was interesting. My friend and I would highly recommend this beautiful restaurant and a great buy during restaurant week."

  • "We had thr Resyaurant Week special dinner. It was the best by far of all the Restaurant Week specials we've enjoyed over the years! Great value for money"

  • "Had the absolutely best lunch that I can ever recall-will definitely return!! Every item was excellent...would have preferred a window table but other than that no complaints!"

  • "We celebrated my mother's 91st birthday at her favorite restaurant and were not disappointed. They had three menus - Restaurant Week, Brunch, and their regular fabulous menu. I had mussels - very tasty and a huge bowlful.Mom had her favorite Eggs Benedict - perfectly prepared. Two in our group ordered from the Restaurant Week menu - salad, cod, and mousse - and were stuffed when done. No skimping on portions! My nephew had a beautiful lobster roll - loaded with a full lobster and no filler. Love this place :)"

  • "I could always count on the boathouse to deliver in every facet, big whiff with this visit. Reservations were scheduled for 7pm. We arrived a little early (on a Tuesday night to celebrate my wife's new job promotion). The manger at the front podium kindly asked us to return closer to 7pm. (Strike 1) We returned at 7 and were put at the smallest table in the entire building between two tables twice the size of ours with little to no room between each of the tables. (Strike 2) We asked for a bottle of Moscato only to be told they only had 1/2 a bottle left (Strike 3). The food was great as usual and the waitress was the best. ps. Table 22 was unoccupied the entire night."

  • "My two friends and I enjoy our visits to the Boat House each time we are able to go out to lunch. Since we are all 82 and live some distance away we do not go for dinner but prefer to enjoy the beautiful view at this lovely restaurant. The food is always to our liking as well as the friendly staff. We look forward to our next visit sometime in the summer."

  • "My friends and I took out another friend who was visiting from Miami. For us locals, it was our second time in the restaurant and we've always loved everything in the Boathouse: food, service, cocktails and ambiance. Our guest was also very impressed with it. Definitely a place worth going."

  • "For that extra special ambiance, request a window side table for a view that will wow you! Fine dining along the beautiful Sakonnet is amazing. Big kudos for their seafood paella...just the right portion of shellfish, chicken and rice all melded perfectly. Their warm out of the oven dinner rolls are heavenly as well. Be aware its a very popular place therefore reservations are recommended if you don't want to want for a table. Otherwise, belly up to the bar and enjoy the view!"

  • "We visited The Boat House by recommendation from several friends. Everyone we spoke to raved about it, so I knew I had to check it out for my birthday dinner with my husband. The service was top notch. Everyone was attentive and friendly. The menu had plenty of interesting dishes to choose. We loved their pickled jalapenos that went with the calamari. They do those in-house and were delicious. The seafood was cooked perfectly and was fresh. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and was there whenever we needed him, we hardly asked for anything because he knew what we wanted before we asked. It's a must-see for sure. We went at 5:30 to be able to catch the sunset. Fantastic views!"

  • "We went there for restaurant week, but some of us ate off the menu. Oysters and little necks as an appetizer were tasty, but one of the little necks was really too small to serve. Seafood chowder was good, and hearty. My seafood scampi had plenty of seafood, including lobster, but the pasta, though obviously homemade, was a bit "lumpy"... Never had pasta like that before, and the scampi sauce was heavy on the butter. The paella on the NRW special didn't really taste like paella... It was just seafood served over rice, with a big piece of cod on top, and did not seem to have any saffron, which I would expect is a staple in paella. Decor was nice, and there was a great sunset view, but for the price, you could do better."

  • "We celebrated our wedding anniversary, and we thoroughly enjoyed our brunch. We had brunch on a rainy day, and the restaurant was perfect, warm and inviting. The only downside was the noise level caused by a large party of women celebrating a birthday. This was just luck of the draw, they were enjoying their lunch, and the volume was a product of numbers. We will repeat the experience soon, as we enjoyed it that much. We also have given gift certificates to friends to celebrate their special occasions."

  • "From the moment we entered we felt welcomed and cared for....the food was delicious, hot and on time! That might have something to do with our server Leslie, whose timing abilities were fantastic....there when we needed her, and knew exactly when to leave us alone as well. A true professional!"

  • "This was our 2nd visit and it was even better than the first. I especially liked your prefix dinner menu. Loved the mussels.. among the best broths I've ever tasted. The view and ambiance complete this really great dining experience. I will be writing about it in my next column for North Farm's newsletter, The Masthead. Be happy to send you a copy."

  • "Dined here a number of times. Previously never overly impressed. this experience was an exception. The specialty cocktails were extremely tasteful (and unique). The kitchen was very accomodating to our tailored menu request. The entrees were well prepared, the steaks were cooked to perfection and all servings were extremely tasteful. Best of all was the serve. The waitress was extremely friendliny, knowledgeable of the menu and of the art of customer service and appeared whenever y we wanted service but was not overpowering. My entire party is anxiously looking forward to returning for a repeat performance."

  • "We visit this restaurant often. The food is very good (although of course some dishes are more to my taste than others). Service is excellent. Most of all, it takes reservations, which many local places do not, and it is quiet enough for real conversation. The tables are at a reasable distance, and the music is under control -- increasingly rare, in my experience. In warm weather there is a great view, and dining indoors but within sight of the water -- good for really hot days when you want the AC."

  • "I heard so many good things about this restaurant so my family of 4 went this past Sunday. Very disappointed. The food was flavorless, prices way too high for what we got. No sooner ordered cocktails and the appetizers were served. then the meal came. I got the seafood scampi, watery. My husband ordered the baked stuffed lobster, the stuffing completely flavorless. Mushroom bisque was fine and the scallops my daughter got were good. The Sakonnet oysters on the half shell were nothing to write home about. We will never go back again. I guess when a corporation owns a group of restaurants they are not looking for return customers."

  • "Boathouse is one of our very favorite restaurants but on this visit (Sunday, President's Day) it did not live up to its usual excellent standards. Their corn chowder is a must, spicy and delicious, but today not hot. The short rib appetizer is very good but served barely warm. My wife's sole entree special was disappointing. Dry, overcooked with very little lemon buerre blanc under the fish. Chunks of lobster were meaty but actually cold. My swordfish special was good, moist but a bit salty. Being seated in the bar area did not help. We enjoy the dining room and were frustrated to see a window table open up within a few minutes of us having been seated. Usually Boathouse is superb and we will not let an off day prevent us from returning."

  • "I've been coming here for several years, and fortunately it has remained consistently wonderful. They have the BEST wait staff, comfortable, attractive ambiance, diversified wine list, and we'll prepared food. What more can you ask for?"

  • "Our seats were available immediately upon arrival, the service was very good as was the food. The tables are set a little too close for my liking, making private conversation impossible. Overall a good experience."

  • "The location is beautiful and romantic along the water, especially as the sun is setting. Also, the food is fantastic. Each dish had the most unique and delicious flavor combinations. The rack of lamb was perfectly cooked, very tender; with a delicious crust on the outside. We also had the coconut rum cake for dessert. The warm sauce combined with the mango sorbet, crunchy crumbles, and the rum cake itself were perfect. Can't wait to go back to try out more of their menu."
