Boar's Head Grill & Tavern, Savannah's first restaurant on Historic River Street, has been a favorite for locals and tourists the past 50 years.
Locally owned and operated by Chef Philip & Charlene Branan, Boar's Head offers casual, waterfront dining in a unique restored cotton warehouse built in the 1800's.

  • "Didn't know what to expect. Wanted something different than seafood. Ordered the filet mignon. It was delicious. The waitress was not overly friendly but did her job well. We had good view of the bay and watched the ships as they passed by. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. I would also return."

  • "I went to the restaurant to celebrate my birthday and it was all I expected. We had a table with a view of the river, the food was mouthwatering, the dessert was to die for, our waiter was personable and went out of his way to make us happy and the owner came over and took the time to speak with us about the history of the restaurant. It was a perfect night!"

  • "I visited Boar's Head Grill and Tavern during restaurant week. Upon entering, I was not impressed with the look of the restaurant. It looked dark and gloomy. The food was sub par. The service was okay. It's not a place that I'd think you'd have to make a reservation for and I don't think I would pay over $30 for much of anything on their menu. However, I'd like to mention that the smoked chicken wings were great."

  • "My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Savannah last year and visited Boar's Head on the recommendation of a friend who frequents Savannah. We LOVED it the first time. This year, we are in Tybee Island for our anniversary and spent a night downtown Savannah celebrating. Of course, we went back to Boar's Head, and of course we once again left impressed. The Low Country Shrimp & Grits are incredible. My wife and I both ordered this dish. Our food came right out. The homemade bread was great. Our server, Tyler (? I think that was his name?), was fantastic. He made casual conversation with those that wanted to and simply served us as we are a little more passive and quiet. We will surely return here every time we visit Savannah."

  • "You enter this restaurant right off a cobblestone walk along the river walk. From the windows you can see the boats and ships travel along the river. The servers are friendly and know the menu thoroughly. They deal with the tourist crowds well offering places to see in an unhurried atmosphere. The food is reliably good and tasty. The peach BBQ sauce on the bacon wrapped shrimp is a recipe I's like to have. The entrees are good sized and prepared perfectly. It's everything you could want from a restaurant serving tourists to and regulars from Savannah."

  • "My wife and I went to Boar’s Head as part of Restaurant Week 2014. The Hostess greeted us with a smile and led us to a table by a window over looking river street…this place is old (since 1959) and unfortunately it does show…it was very warm, they probably don’t have A/C and in southern Georgia that is a must on a 97 Degree day…they did have ceiling fans so that did help. There were a few flies that kept buzzing around and that was annoying. with the special restaurant week menu we ordered an appetizer, main dish and desert for $30 each it was very good…service was very good I just think that the establishment needs a good deep cleaning and to be refurbished…I would go back but not during the summer (just too warm for me)"

  • "My boyfriend and I were visiting Savannah on vacation and I told him from day one that I wanted some Mahi. We agreed we would do a nice dinner on Saturday night. After scouring the menus of restaurants on and around River Street. Boar's Head Grill and Tavern's dish sounded the best. Upon our sever coming to the table, we were informed they were out of Mahi when I asked what wine he would pair with it. That was the specific item I had come after. Instead, I ordered the Wahoo on special-- it was dry. The server also came over way too often trying to take our order. He also made the comment- "There goes our night." in regards to the fact it had started raining. Overall, a good place to eat."

  • "Had not been to this restaurant in a while but kept hearing comments from others about the delicious steaks....Well my husband and I decided to go there after a Savannah Sand Gnats game.....We shared the Fried Green Tomatoes....they were a treat, so good... I ordered the Rib Eye and it was everything I had heard....one of the best steaks I have ever eaten...my husband had the Shrimp and Grits...he said those were very good as well....We were given a window table and had a great view of River Street and the River..... We will definitely be returning...."

  • "Met a friend for dinner while traveling in Charleston and decided to try Boar's Head based on multiple reviews and the interesting history - fabulous choice!!! The builiding is authentic to its history and has a great view of the water and the activity on the river. Our server was knowledgeable and very helpful with suggestions. The food was AMAZING! My friend and I are always searching for a great shrimp cocktail and we may have located the best that we have ever had at Boar's Head. Our meals were fantastic; the entire evening was enhanced by our stop here. Highly recommend putting this on your itinerary if you are in Savannah!"

We requested a bottle of wine to be waiting for us and it was sitting on the table when we were seated. The staff were extremely attentive without being overbearing and the food was amazing.   • "This was our first visit to Boar's Head Bar and Grill. My husband ordered the catch of the day (grouper stuffed with crab) which he enjoyed. I ordered grilled chicken Cesar salad. The chicken was nicely seasoned and was very tender. We would recommend this restaurant to our friends and family."

  • "The Boar's Head has it all: great food, great service, and great ambiance! Located in a historic cotton warehouse on the Savannah riverfront, the ancient brick walls seem to transport you to the 1700s as you look out onto the busy Savannah River. The menu has something for everyone with steaks, chicken, pasta dishes, and seafood fairly represented. I had the double lambchops with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. The lamb was cooked perfectly medium and the mustard sauce complemented them well. The potatoes were rich and creamy, and the large portion of vegetables were perfectly grilled and flavorful. My wife had one of the best chicken fettucine alfredo dishes that I have ever tasted. A home run on River Street!"

  • "We had one of the worst dining experiences. We we greated promptly and then seated at a table overlooking the river. There we sat for for 10 to 15 minutes before our server showed at the table. Not even a glass of water. For a higher end dining, service should be king. Seeing empty tables at 7:00 on a Friday should be a red flag. On a positive note the food was great. We had the Grouper and it was the best piece of fish we had on our vacation to Savannah. "

  • "We visit Savannah several times a year but haven't tried Boars Head Grill before. The building is over 200 years old & we were lucky enough to get a table by a window (which we requested when making the reservation). The fried green tomatoes were delicious and so was my stuffed shrimp. The shrimp scampi was outstanding! We had no complaints at all. Everyone working there was friendly & our server was able to answer any questions we had. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Historic ambiance, welcoming staff without the feel of the touristy pitch common along the river front. Upon entering smells of fresh well prepared foods, dining room laid out for a feeling that your dining experience is important. Menu and wine list sufficient for variety and pairings without leaving the feeling the kitchen might be presenting "stock items". Sautéed Grouper was prepared to perfection, moist, sauced to degree that enhanced freshness and natural flavor of the fish. Side was fresh and tasty. Spinach salad fresh, balanced ingredients with complimentary dressing, better than most. Grilled Tuna over Angel Hair Pasta fresh cooked to exact specification, sauce with grilled tomato was exceptional. Boar's Head is now a favorite."

  • "My husband set up our reservation online with "notes". The "notes" were a request for a window table and that it was my birthday. We got just as he asked. Window table was beautiful. They stopped him as he went to the restroom to ask which dessert I would like. The waitress brought out the crème brulee with a candle and told me "Happy Birthday!". The waitress also recommended the best drink after I told her what I did and did not like. It was an awesome dining experience."

  • "I was in Savannah for just a couple of days and looking for a place to have dinner with my neice who goes to SCAD. Boar's Head was perfect! The setting is nice, we had a table with a scenic view of the river, and the restaurant is a good combination of great food in a more casual atmosphere. I had the shrimp and grits - which were outstanding - and she had some grouper with a beurre blanc. Both were fantastic. My neice also had the chocolate bread pudding for dessert, which was decadent and delicious. I would definitely go back!"

  • "The location was fantastic -- an historic building on a cobblestone street overlooking the river. I had the Low Country Shrimp and Grits. The shrimp were seasoned and prepared perfectly and the grits were very smooth and tasty. I had 2 pints of Guinness and the bartender took the time to form a 4-leaf clover on the top. Nice touch!"

  • "We went with another couple after the big parade in Savannah. We had a boat to catch, and were a bit worried about time. No problem. Our waiter was great and everything came quickly. Soups were excellent (bean and ham; she crab) as were the special entrees (Irish stew, barbecue). Bloody Mary specials and other libations were reasonable. We had a great table by the window overlooking River St. and the action."
