Boar's Head Grill & Tavern, Savannah's first restaurant on Historic River Street, has been a favorite for locals and tourists the past 50 years.
Locally owned and operated by Chef Philip & Charlene Branan, Boar's Head offers casual, waterfront dining in a unique restored cotton warehouse built in the 1800's.

Specializing in the finest USDA aged steaks, chops, live Maine lobster, local seafood and sinfully delicious desserts, Chef Branan caters to every diners needs.   • "I had a party of 3 with established reservation on a weekday evening. When we arrived our table was ready for us, and it turned out we were seated near one of the windows with a lovely view of the waterfront. The food was outstanding and our service was impeccable. Definitely recommend!"

  • "The location was fantastic -- an historic building on a cobblestone street overlooking the river. I had the Low Country Shrimp and Grits. The shrimp were seasoned and prepared perfectly and the grits were very smooth and tasty. I had 2 pints of Guinness and the bartender took the time to form a 4-leaf clover on the top. Nice touch!"

  • "We went with another couple after the big parade in Savannah. We had a boat to catch, and were a bit worried about time. No problem. Our waiter was great and everything came quickly. Soups were excellent (bean and ham; she crab) as were the special entrees (Irish stew, barbecue). Bloody Mary specials and other libations were reasonable. We had a great table by the window overlooking River St. and the action."

  • "My group had an okay time here. We were seated very quickly, it took a minute to get a waitress but it was valentines day so i will give them the benefit of the doubt. Everyone there was extremely friendly and made you feel welcome. the view is beautiful but mainly during the day because it's hard to see the beauty at night. the food was so fresh and flavored! probably one of the best stakes I've ever had! It's a great place overall, i would recommend it to anyone for lunch or just a nice evening out; not necessarily for a extremely special occasion."

  • "We went with another couple knowing nothing of the Savannah night life or restaurant scene and were pleased with the result. Nice restaurant in one of the old cotton warehouses along the water front. It took us a bit longer than it should have to find the place since we didn't know the area but once we threw away our GPS unit and asked for help we had the "DUH" moment and there it was! Staff were incredibly friendly despite the frenetic pace of a Valentines Day dinner where the place was full. We'd definitely put it on a list of 'do overs' - pricing was fair and the bartender also gets to pour a fair drink."

  • "After not going here for several years mainly due to a ho-hum meal, we decided to go here for Valentine's Day dinner and were very pleasantly surprised. My wife had stuffed shrimp and enjoyed it very much. I had the beef filet with barbeque shrimp and both were delicious. The filet was cooked a perfect medium rare and had a wonderful flavor. The barbeque shrimp were outstanding and while they have an appetizer portion, it is one they should consider making an entree portion! Only slight disappointment was my wife's dessert.. the creme bruelle was "over cooked" or probably re-heated too much. The Savannah Triffle was very good though."

  • "I discovered the quaint little Boar's Head restaurant on scenic river street last year during Savannah Restaurant week. My wife and I had a great experience. So this year during restaurant week I went again alone. I enjoyed one of the best meals I have had in the last couple of years! It was so good, as a matter of fact, that I subsequently dined at the restaurant on two of the following three days along with my wife. For an appetizer I had the tangy Shrimp wrapped with bacon with a tangy peach salsa and a delicious pickled jicama slaw. For dinner, I had a rich delicious shrimp and grits with locally sourced andouille sausage. For dessert was a scrumptious bourbon pecan tart served with Vanilla Bean ice cream and salted caramel."

  • "Each course built upon itself and was more delicious than the previous. I had the barbecue shrimp and jicama slaw for a first course. The pickled slaw was tangy and cut the sweetness of the large white Georgia Shrimp. The shrimp and grits was delicious with the creaminess of the cheese grits, the spiciness of the locally sourced andouille sausage, and the creamy cajun sauce. I had the bourbon pecan tort for desert. The salted caramel had the perfect note to accompany the creamy vanilla bean ice cream and crunchy pecan tort. I hope they entertain adding this dessert to their menu. The service was also wonderful, and the vibe was great. My wife and I are going back two days later to recreate this wonderful dinner experience."

My guess is due to the location, mostly tourists go here, but it is worth a visit by locals too. We went as part of Savannah Restaurant Week, and we're glad we did."

  • "I made reservations here just because we wanted to assure we didn't have to wait anywhere and this was close to our hotel. The service was excellent from the beginning. The hostess sat us down and catered to my daughters whim of using a booster seat. Which she never does. Even brought us a different chair so the booster seat would fit properly. The food was excellent! Even my sons chicken tenders were great. We had a shrimp and grits appetizer that was very good. I almost wish they would have just given me a bowl of the grits. My husband had the seafood boulliabase. It was delectable!! If I go back to Savannah I will definitely revisit this restaurant."

  • "I took my wife here for our anniversary. We went on a thursday evening, so we were almost the only people there. The atmosphere was great; hard wook floors, old burned bricks there was a fire at some point), a boars head on the wall, candles on the table...And a spectacular view of the river. The ticket was around $70, but keep in mind that includes 2 meals, wine, appetizer, dessert, and tip. I ordered the steak sandwich, and it was literally a whole steak on a sub. So although it is somewhat expensive; you do get a lot of food. And to top it off, the service was outstanding."

  • "Before our recent stay in Savannah, we were told (several times) from friends to "don't miss Boar's Head". So we didn't. And were we glad! We just dropped in for drinks and appetizers but had so much fun! The bartender, Rebecca, was a delight during our drinks at the bar. Then we moved on to the dining area and feasted on Blackened Shrimp and Cheese Grits -- OMG! Absolutely wonderful. And the crab cakes were exceptional as well. It was nice to watch the river traffic float by. Highly recommend this hot-spot to anyone dining on the river front. You won't be disappointed."

  • "After reading reviews about this restaurant having great oyster Rockefellers I went there. Can you believe they said they were out of oysters! What restaurant in Savannah runs out of oysters in oyster season! Anyway, we decided to stay. . Glad we did we had an appetizer of blackened shrimp with grits and some peach sauce, it was great. Then onto crab soup best ever filled with sherry. Main meal fillet, medium rate perfectly cooked. Had a side of asparagus not a lot but good. The gris were great.Service: Mediocre at best. Ordered wine took forever to get it and refills. My soup came with me entree, had to ask for more bread, napkins, etc.Having had a somewhat mediocre dinner, I would go back again."

  • "We've been visiting Savannah for many years, walking past the Boar's Head Grill and promising ourselves that we'd go there someday. Finally we made reservations for November 9. The restaurant always looked busy so we thought that was a good sign. Now we think it's probably a good watering hole for the masses but: average service, mediocre food (good creme brûlée custard, but the crust was cement). We asked if the bar tender could make a pain killer and were told he could. Not true. Fairly good shrimp, odd fried green tomatoes (chocolate sauce and cream cheese on top? At least that's how it looked and tasted). All the flavors were slightly off. And the waiter was very ho-hum. Sorry, but not the best experience."

  • "Shrimp and Grits with Sausage, a tiny bit spicy and were perfect! The red Sangria was pretty good. My friend had the Ribeye, perfectly cooked and the only complaint we had was skip the mushrooms unless you want to ward off vampires. The food was great and service perfect. Highly recommend. Two of us with 2 drinks each and 2 entrees with side of mushrooms was $90. Worth it!"

  • "My wife and I had dinner at this very same Boar's Head restaurant on our wedding day in 1963. We decided to return and repeat the experience for our 50th anniversary. It turned out to be a great decision. Everything was top notch, and the food was excellent. We particularly appreciated the outstanding service rendered by "Joe" our waiter."

Located on the Sacannah waterfront in one of the oldest buildings in the city, this restaurant provides a great dining experience with a view of the action on the tourist filled street as well as the river. The menu isn't huge but the selection of seafood and steak along with the evening's specials provide something almost everyone can enjoy. The food is prepared and presented well. Our waiter while not particularly friendly was efficient and courteous. Other than the short wine list and outdated wine glasses, there is nothing negative about this restaurant. We would recommend The Boar's Head to others and would definitely return ourselves."
